SJ is a proud queer/transgender/non-binary/biracial person who uses their lived experience to guide their consulting work. They spent 5 years teaching high school-level English in the US and abroad at the start of their career and eventually left the classroom pursuing a master's degree. They obtained their degree in International Education and served as a classroom evaluator, curriculum developer, and a teacher trainer in the years following. During their work at a non-profit afterschool program, they began their formalized Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging work in the education space. They specialize in providing workshops, training, and strategic planning support to schools and organizations on creating LGBTQ+ inclusion, creating and fostering spaces for belonging, integrating restorative practices, and empowering folks beyond performative allyship.

I started my DEI experience in higher education. I was sold the 9-5 dream & I believed it was a place to make an impact, give my family a good life and find freedom.
But instead, I found myself working 65-hour weeks, commuting 3 hours, and having no time with my family. I decided this was not enough. In 2015, I took what I knew about DEI and combined it with healing practices and became a corporate consultant for companies that wanted to make diversity and inclusion a priority.
After 5 years of success, I founded Speaking 4 Profit University, where I help other DEI professionals build successful consulting businesses that impact the world. β MY EXPERTISE: I have helped over 100+ organizations with their DEI retention, policies, and practices.
I helped my client establish consulting businesses that have brought in over 1 million dollars of revenue over the last two years. Sound elevates the brand. Hey, I'm Evolve and this is my story
My professional lived experience has helped me identify where processes are broken and where communication across differences can take place to make an organizational culture thrive.
It wasnβt until I graduated and my dad told me I would have to find a dress if I wanted to find a job that I understood the impact of being queer and black in the workplace. This is why I pour communication, diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything I do.
I started my DEI experience in higher education. I was sold the 9-5 dream & I believed it was a place to make an impact, give my family a good life and find freedom.
But instead, I found myself working 65-hour weeks, commuting 3 hours, and having no time with my family. I decided this was not enough.
In 2015, I took what I knew about DEI and combined it with healing practices and became a corporate consultant for companies that wanted to make diversity and inclusion a priority.
After 5 years of success, I founded Speaking 4 Profit University, where I help other DEI professionals build successful consulting businesses that impact the world.

It all started with a dream and asking that question how else can success be defined? About 15 years ago, I started working in higher education for an online university. I worked my way up to an executive-level position. I worked as a college Executive for 12 Years. About five years into my executive position, I knew that it wasnβt something I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life. Something inside of me told me I should start my own business. I found and hired a programmer to build me a dating/dance-type website so that I would be able to launch my first business as an entrepreneur. Fast forward a year later β the website was -launched. But to my surprise, I had a hard time getting members to join, and I had to close down the site to avoid losses.
Then I decided to take what I had learned about lead generation and marketing and began hosting workshops in my area. After hosting over 60 local marketing workshops and helping other businesses dial in their -marketing β I felt comfortable with my craft. Today I specialize in lead generation and marketing. Helping businesses generate leads and make more sales. I also help people take their knowledge, experience, and expertise to turn it into an online coaching program.

An African American, queer, disabled/chronically ill, femme, cis woman, she has experienced health issues since infancy. It was only in 2011, however, that she embraced her disabled identity in a political sense. She is a contributing author of Integrative Health Coaching: Resource Guide for Navigating Complementary and Integrative Health and a series of eBooks on holistic wellness. Meckell is also a three-time recipient of the Chancellorβs Outstanding Staff Award, the highest honor for UC Berkeley staff members, for her continued work in health and wellness.
