Every generation and culture have its own vernacular. And as usual, things get lost in translation. Because Jim is older and because he grew up in the country, he often has saying that I (Troy) do not understand. Despite my lack of understanding, those saying seem to be important to him in life and in his understanding of life.
Jim often says, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." Exactly! What is he talking about? What does that even mean? Instead of disregarding it like people often do when we don't understand something, today's episode is discussing this weird saying to bridge the gaps in our generations.

When it comes to our faith, we often speak of promises. We build our lives on the promises from God we hold to be true. Last week's title was "It's My Race." Today we play on those words and discuss what it means to "run your race." With so much going on in the world, we can be overwhelmed with all the things that need to be corrected, fixed, and changed. It can be easy to just mind our business, but maybe that's not so bad.
Today, we get personal about my, Troy, experience of race. Just with any people group, nothing is monolithic. My experience has its differences and aspects that are specific to my story. I just hope that through this episode, people can cultivate the courage needed to be vulnerable. Through your own story, people can grow, heal, and experience freedom.
The church should be effective in the world. How does it do that without the world permeating the church's beliefs? It seems that politics has done that very thing. We, the church, seem to be divided more along political lines than anything spiritual. We talk about how politics and church can coexist...if they can.

As promised Dr. Jim and Troy end the first season of You're Next with a lighthearted, whimsical conversation. Starting at with the topic of pets, the conversation flows to cuisine, TV shows, and other randomness. Enjoy the ride.
We wanted this podcast to be relatable to everyone. So we did not want to fill it with Christian jargon and insider language. But we couldn't not talk about Jesus. Dr. Jim and I are Christians, and Jesus is just who we are. Here we just talk about Jesus. Simple as that.
Our last episode was on relationships, and the greatest relationship of all is our relationship with God. And an important building block to any relationship is communication. Today's episode is vulnerable and transparent about the troubles and difficulties of having a conversation with God.
Relationships make or break us; there is no in between. It is our choice how they will impact our lives. Dr. Jim speaks on this crucial part of our lives and how we can better cultivate and nurture relationships in our lives.
What do you do when the place of healing is the place of pain? Anything that deals with humanity will be imperfect—the church included. Dr. Jim and Troy have a heated and healthy conversation about the problems that exist between the church and the younger generation.
