Unveiled is an invitation to "lift the veil" and experience the healing joy found in bringing God behind-the-scenes of your marriage. Marriage is a journey of ups and downs that stretches and grows us. I'd love to travel this journey with you as the encouraging, practical voice of a friend pointing you toward the heart of God for you and your marriage.
One of the keys to a healthy relationship is being able to see things from the other person's point of view. This will often help us get past an impasse and have more empathy and compassion for our spouse. Use this key to unlock a door when you are stuck at odds with each other. Scriptures used in this episode:1 Peter 3:8, Romans 12:10, Ephesians 4:32
This is part of the Keys to Healthy Relationships Series
We may not realize that we are judging others, but the ramifications of judging on our relationships are very destructive. Matthew in the Bible has a lot to say about it and Jesus models grace for us. Scripture in this episode:Matthew 7:1-5, Luke 6:37
Whether it's fighting or disagreeing or other trials of life, there is a place to start to find healing. This key is intimacy with Jesus. Going to Jesus and allowing Him to work in our own hearts, will begin to turn things around in our relationships. I've seen it work in my own life and the lives of others.
Scriptures used in this episode:
Matthew 7:1-5, Matthew 11:28, Romans 12:1-2
It's so easy for relationships to slip into "work" mode and talk mostly of logistics. To have a "GREAT" marriage, there needs to be a deep friendship which includes intimate heart talk.
Creating safe spaces is the key.
Scriptures used in this episode:
Genesis 2:24, 2 Corinthians 6:11-13
Another key to healthy relationships is cultivating a culture of honor in your home. We don't talk about honor much anymore. We don't always know how to show it. In this episode we look at a few ways to create a culture of honor.
Scriptures in this episode:
Romans 12:10, Proverbs 15:33, Proverbs 18:12, Proverbs 22:4, Proverbs 29:23
Five Principles of Honor:
1 - Honoring someone is respecting their position.
2 - Honoring someone is not speaking ill of them or to them.
3 - Honoring someone is fighting against selfishness.
4 - Honoring someone is listening to their thoughts and feelings and taking them intoconsideration.
5 – Humility fosters honor.
Everyone wants healthy relationships. One of my favorites is being quick to apologize and quick to forgive. (aka "Keeping short accounts") Don't let the yucky stuff pile up!
Scriptures in this episode:
Romans 12:17-19, Matthew 18:21-22, Matthew 6:15
Sometimes I act like an undercover Christian. Why? I don't know. Jesus calls us to be salt and light. Are we making others thirsty for what we have?
Scriptures in this episode:
Matthew 5:13-16, 1 Peter 3:15, Romans 12:1-2, Ephesians 6:12

Make your prayers more effective by praying WITH God, rather than TO God.
Scriptures referenced:
Matthew 11:28-29, Luke 12:2-3, Matthew 6:10, Matthew 18:19
God is speaking to us all the time, but like a radio, we have to know how to "tune in." I learned this technique some 15 years ago and it forever changed my life. There is more than one way to hear from God, but if you are not yet able to have long two-way conversations with God - this episode will teach you how. It is based on the teaching by Mark Virkler entitled "The 4 Keys to Hearing God's Voice." https://www.cwgministries.org/store/4-keys-hearing-gods-voicePlease try this. You won't regret it. It may take more than one try to get it, but don't give up. Jesus wants to talk to you!
Scriptures referenced in this episode: John 10:27, Habbakuk 2:1-2
Do you ever wonder how to pray for your husband or whether or not it does any good? Join me as I interview author, Kim Gordon, talking about her new book, "Helper. Rescuer. Defender. Praying as the Wife God Made You to Be."Kim tells about the inspiration for the book as well as what praying for her husband has meant in her relationship. Scripture Verses Referenced in this episode: Romans 8:28, Proverbs 3:5-6

When we totally grasp His love and acceptance of us - as we are right now - we can overcome insecurity. There's no need for it once we get His acceptance totally settled in our heart. This is my prayer for you!

The Bible teaches a lot about doing to "one another." Too long, married couples have been trying to dominate each other, or one dominating and the other getting railroaded. Unfortunately the Church has taught "wives submit to your husbands" from a harmful perspective. The New Testament as a whole teaches to Submit to One Another, love one another, serve one another and more "one anothers." In this episode I explore what "mutual submission" does and doesn't look like. If you need a fuller discussion, email me at anne@synergiamm.com.Verses Referenced: Ephesians 5:21
God tells us that a cord of three strands is not easily broken. When we invite God in to our marriage he helps us in multiple ways.

Every relationship needs this to survive and especially to thrive. Why is it so hard then? Add this to your marriage and watch the difference it makes!
Verses quoted: Psalm 127:2, Ecclesiastes 3
Do you get tired of trying to please everyone and feeling like you always come up short? It can be so exhausting trying to be all things to all people. But God asks us only to glorify Him. He is our audience of 1!

Verses quoted in this episode: Matthew 6:33, Micah 6:8, Matthew 22:37-39

Verses quoted in this episode: Matthew 22:37-40, 1 Peter 4:8, 1 John 4:7-8, John 13:34-35, 1 Corinthians 13
We all have problems. We all like to solve our problems. We spend a lot of time, energy and stress trying to find solutions, when God probably has just what we need. My advice to myself this year - Go to God First.
Verses Quoted in this episode:
Philippians 4:6-7 Isaiah 55:8-9 Psalm 46:10Matthew 6:27
Contuining our series on "First Things First" - guarding our thoughts FIRST is so important as our words and actions start with thoughts. Have you ever wondered, "Why did I do that?" It started with a thought. Not all of our thoughts lead us down good paths. In this episode I look at three things that can take our thoughts down negative paths.
Verses Quoted in this episode:
Philippians 4:8, James 1:14-15, John 8:44, 2 Corinthians 10:5, Colossians 2:8, Romans 12:2
We know that putting God first is important, but do we do it? Great things happen when we put first things first and get our relationship with God at the top. The other relationships will improve as a result. This is the first in a series of "First Things First."
Verses quoted in this episode:
Matthew 6:25-34, James 1:22, Philippians 4:9, 1 Peter 5:7
That very first Christmas, God gave us the best gift of all - himself! He gave us his presence in Jesus and continuing through his Holy Spirit. He is "Immanuel" - God with us! Jesus' last words to us were, "I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:20)

Sometimes couples don't feel "close" anymore, or like they are drifting apart. They don't always know how it happens. They are several things that can cause it, but you can get back from it by beginning to spend more time together.
Bible Verses quoted: Ecclesiastes 4:9-11
It's easy for moms to develop strong bonds and friendships with their kids and enjoy spending time with just them. The danger is that your focus on your kids will take your focus off of your husband and begin to harm your marriage relationship. Keep the Marriage relationship as the primary relationship.
Bible Verses Used: Matthew 10:37, Proverbs 31:28
If you feel a tug-of-war between extended family and one of you, it's time to pull back and regroup and be united. Don't dread the holidays with family, plan for it. Be united.

Do you ever feel like you do most of the work around the house? If so, this can lead to resentment which can in turn undermine your marriage. What's a different way to look at things? How can you resolve this issue?
Bible Verse Quoted:
1 Corinthians 13:5
I'm introducing a new series on some of the Danger Zones to avoid in marriage. These are seemingly small things that can have a big impact. Unity is key in marriage, so anything that can divide you should be guarded against. You've got to be on the same team!

Life is hard, but you don't have to wait until it's better to be happy. God promises to trade our sorrows for joy and give us "a garment of praise INSTEAD of a spirit of despair." (among other "insteads")
Verses quoted in this podcast: Psalm 30:11, Isaiah 61:3, Job 8:21, Psalm 30:5, Acts 2:28
Last episode I said the fastest path to peace and out of stress is to "give up" control - aka "surrender." So why is surrendering things into God's hands so hard? Could it be a trust issue?
Verses referenced: Isaiah 55:9, Ephesians 3:20, Deuteronomy 31:8
We often feel like giving up, throwing in the towel, running away. We feel like we've tried everything. I don't advocate that kind of giving up. But - when we give up trying to fix it ourselves, that's when we often see forward progress. God can make a way but we need to get out of the way.
The Story of King Jehoshaphat mentioned in this episode can be found in 2 Chronicles 20.
I struggle with stress and guess that many women do too. I want to share what God has been sharing about stress with me. It's not from the Father. Also, what does his word say about stress? It says He gives us peace!
Recently God showed me a vision of a treasure chest of the heart and that sometimes we are treasuring the wrong things there. But - there is hope. We can exchange negative things for positive ones with God's help!
Verses quoted in this episode: Matthew 6:20-21, Luke 2:19, 1 Corinthians 13:5, James 3:17-18
As busy women we don't feel we have time to rest but the consequence of not resting is harm to ourselves and our relationships. God commands us to rest because he knows we need it. He also offers to carry our burdens and give us rest and refreshment for our souls.
Take time for this episode, give yourself permission to rest and have fun, and see what a difference it can make.
I recorded this episode outside for fun and a restful ambiance, but the crickets and cicadas were quite vocal! :) Hopefully your yard is quieter than mine.
This is about my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day when the enemy hijacked my mind and send me down a path of negativity. We must always guard our minds, but be especially viligant when we are weak (stressed, sick, overwhelmed, etc.) The path that our mind is on determines how we process what's coming at us. Our mindset affects how we feel and how we relate with those around us, so we must guard our minds!

I learned a lot of lessons throughout my crazy 2022 summer of caring for my elderly parents and moving them to assisted living and out of their home. For the next few weeks, I'm going to share what I learned.

What is it that many men wish they could convey to their wives? Shaunti asked this question as an open-ended question in her survey and here's the number one answer. Well, I won't spoil it - listen in. It may surprise you.

This is based on Chapter 9 from the book, "For Women Only" by Shaunti Feldhahn.
Are men as a whole romantic? Shaunti's survey says "Yes!" So why do we often wish they'd be more romantic? I share several reasons from Shaunti's research. Don't worry - there's hope!
This information is based off of Chapter 8 of "For Women Only" by Shaunti Feldhahn.

Please note - if your husband is addicted to porn - get help. This episode is about the thousands of images they are bombarded with on a normal daily basis.
My family is still in crisis/chaos mode with my in-laws. I'm learning the importance of seeking joy in the midst of difficult or "hard" times. We all go through hard seasons and joy is our best option. So how do we find it?
Sex is more than just a physical need for our men. It affects every area of their lives. And - it's great for us women, too! :) This is information from chapter 6 of the book, For Women Only, by Shaunti Feldhahn.

This is the second part of our series, "What are Men Thinking?" based on the book, "For Women Only: What You Need to Know About the Inner Lives of Men" by Shaunti Feldhahn.
This episode discusses the first half of chapter 2: "Your Love is Not Enough." Our men crave to be respected more than to feel loved. What does that look like in practical application? Shaunti outlines 6 ways we can show respect to the men in our lives. Feel free to buy the book and follow along.
What are men thinking? Men and women are so different! Author Shaunti Feldhahn has surveyed thousands of men to understand men and how they think. She put it all together in her book, “For Women Only: What You Need To Know About the Inner Lives of Men.” I will be going through the information in this book over the next two months. It’s so helpful to understanding our husbands better! Today’s episode is information from Chapter 1, the introduction to the material and a preview of what’s to come.

We need to love ourselves before we can fully love others well. Guarding our thoughts is the first step. Continuing our discussion of mindsets - what are your mindsets about yourself? It's time to identify negative ones and then use the three R's of Jon Acuff to change them to positive ones: Retire, Replace, Repeat.
Are you feeling stuck in your life and relationships? What are you thinking about? It could be your mindsets that are holding you back. Change your mindset and thoughts and change the outcome. Your thinking may be stuck in a rut leading down a negative path.
Some of this episode discusses Fixed vs. Growth Mindset based on the book Mindsets, by Carol Dweck, Ph.D.

Have you ever said, "He makes me so mad!!!!" or something similar? Or "It's your fault that...." We love to lay blame on others. Why? How does it affect our relationship?
It’s so easy to get offended over minor things that seem major at the time. But offense drives a wedge between us and the ones we love. Let’s become unoffendable!
Scripture Verses: James 2:13, Proverbs 19:11, Proverbs 17:9, Proverbs 17:14, Luke 6:28, Ecclesiastes 10:4

Self-pity is a common temptation and robs us of joy, peace and power. I find it's my biggest trap I fall into! We can learn to recognize it and reject it and choose thankfulness instead.

It's so hard to work out problems when we're sure we're right! Well, sometimes we are, but not always. And even when we are, do we have to "Be right?" Insisting we are "right" blocks communication and problem solving. Scriptures referenced: Proverbs 12:15, Proverbs 16:25, Proverbs 18:17, Proverbs 21:2
Are you looking forward or backward? Our past mistakes can haunt us and make us dislike ourselves. Our husband's past mistakes can keep us looking at him through the lens of the past. Unforgiveness can eat away at us from the inside out. The past is the past. Leave it there and look toward what God is doing now and in your future.
Scriptures cited: Philippians 3:13-15, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Isaiah 43:25
I often get frustrated when my ideals aren't my reality. I try harder and harder to make them happen. I don't like letting go of "my" plans. But this creates frustration and disappointment. My plans and ideals are good. Why should I have to let them go? To get free. Letting go of "my" plans and ideals in favor of God's vision and plans, is freeing! His are better anyway.
Scriptures: Proverbs 19:21, Isaiah 55:8-9, Mark 8:33
Why do we complain? Is it helpful or does it hold us back? Be empowered by embracing gratitude and joy instead!
This is a short two minute bonus episode to share the real life story of me overcoming self-doubt after writing the episode on Letting Go of Self-Doubt.
We sometimes doubt our own abilities for success which can hold us back and make us give up. But our confidence is in God, not ourselves. I struggle with this issue myself. Join me as we look at it a new way.
Main verse: Philippians 4:13

Sometimes life hands us huge disappointments that we don't know how to handle. In this episode, I outline three steps to overcoming those big disappointments in life.
When life hits hard and you don't know where to turn or what to do, start with praising God and see what happens! (Enjoy my dog, Bingley, "praising" at the end! LOL)
'Tis the season for romantic Christmas movies. Do you ever wish your husband was more like the men in the "Hallmark"(TM) movies? Why isn't he?
God created sex and it is good. Women should enjoy sex with their husbands, too! If you're squeamish about this topic, this episode might be TMI.

After searching for years for the "right" way to do everything, I've come to the conclusion that this is yet another lie. There is no ONE "right" way to do things, so be free! God will show you the best way for YOU!
Have you ever thought, "If my husband really loved me, he wouldn't do that," or "If my husband really loved me he would do this?" Many of us have had these thoughts at some point in our marriage. But, are your husband's actions a test of his love for you? Or maybe it's yet another ploy of Satan to divide you both and play on your insecurities.
Change is hard. We are who we are, but we CAN change. What if you changing some little thing made a big difference in your marriage?
If we believe things will never change, they won’t. We have lost hope. Hope is essential to moving forward. Join me for a good dose of hope and encouragement that things can change in your marriage!
Sometimes we feel so exhausted and tired of trying that we begin to believe that we'd be better off alone. But this is a ploy of the enemy to make us hopeless. I explore the truth that new problems are created when a couple separates.
Verses Referenced in this episode: Galatians 6:9 and James 1:2-5
This is not to discount that if you are in an abusive situation, please get help. You are better off getting out of an abusive situation.
Often as Christians we believe the lie that we're supposed to perfect, that we "shouldn't" have marriage problems. It keeps us from admitting it and getting help. Join me as I unpack this subtle and often subconscious lie.
Women often can feel stuck waiting for their husband to change thinking that will fix everything. Unfortunately, even if they need to change, we can not change another person. But - we can change ourselves and affect change in the marriage.
We often question whether or not we're "good enough." This episode explores how "I'm not good enough" or "I'm a bad wife/mother/person" are all lies that we fall prey to and what the truth really is. You're not the only one who's thought this. :)
This episode introduces a series about the Overcoming the Lies that women believe about themselves and marriage and where they come from. We can get stuck believing lies from Satan that color how we see things and negatively affect us and our marriage. We often have thoughts like, "I'm not good enough" or "I'm a bad person" go through our minds. Guess what? They aren't true!
Scripture from today's episode: 2 Corinthians 10:5 We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Fear can infect you and lead you down a path of negative thoughts. You can begin to recognize and stop the negative thoughts by catching and beating the "What If" monster. Psalm 34:4 and 2 Timothy 1:7 were mentioned in today's episode.
God is inviting you into a side by side relationship with Him on your marriage journey. You are never alone!
