Pastor Kristin and Pastor Brian wrap up the flood story from Genesis this week! There is much more to this story than you might expect, so grab a cup of coffee, your Bible and join them for a fun nd intriguing conversation in this week's episode of Joy & Java!
Brian and Kristin are back in the recording studio to talk about the flood as described in Genesis. They talk briefly about the genealogy listed in chapter 5 and then dive into chapter 6. This is an interesting and encouraging conversation that you do not want to miss!
Brian and Kristin discuss the intriguing chapter four from the book of Genesis. Cain gets jealous of Abel and that jealousy leads to anger, which leads to the first recorded murder in the Bible. Even in this dark chapter we can see the goodness of God played out. We hope you are encouraged by listening to this week's discussion!
This week Brian and Kristin talk about Genesis 3 and the sin event that triggered the entrance of evil into the world. Adam and Eve make a terrible decision that costs them intimacy with God and brings about expulsion from the garden. But the story isn't over because God's goodness is still evident even in this situation.
Kristin and Brian discuss the creation of human life this week and the implications for us as we relate to God as the Creator, the Potter, and the ultimate Gardener. God creates the universe, creates the earth, and then plants a garden. He gives the garden to Adam to live in, to steward, and to enjoy! Then he sees that Adam needs an "Ezer" or "helper." But don't get too excited about the term helper...it means something far more significant that you might think!

Kristin and Brian work their way through Philippians 2:19-3:4 this week on Joy & Java. They discuss the examples of Timothy and Epaphroditus on which Paul commends to the church at Philippi as examples of men who are living selflessly as Christ did.
Brian and Kristin are joined this week by Pastor Jack Radcliffe who recently moved to NE Ohio and has joined Pursuit Friends Network of House Churches. He is an adjunct professor at Malone University and a pastor who is passionate about helping others learn how to live missionally.
This week we continue our progression through Philippians. We cover 1:27-2:18.
Philippians 1:12-26 is such an encouraging and challenging portion of Paul's letter to the church at Philippi. Kristin and Brian discuss the role of suffering in advancing the gospel and how, if we keep our eyes on Jesus, he can use us to bring glory unto him even through hard circumstances.

Pastor Brian and Pastor Kristin wrap up their study of Galatians this week! This week's episode focuses on chapter 6 and Paul's final argument for following the way of Christ in freedom. This way includes ding good to all around us and seeking the prosperity of those we come in contact with everyday. It also means that we are to die to ourselves and this world in order to embrace the new creation that Jesus has for each of us.
This week Brian and Kristin discuss Galatians 5 and it's ramifications for the modern church. They talk about this passage in the context of community and how living out the fruit of the spirit should impact, not just us as individuals, but our entire community.
We are children of the promise according to Paul as he pleads with the Galatians to choose their freedom in Christ over the futility of the Law. Happy New Year from Pastors Brian and Kristin and the Pursuit Friends Network of House Churches family! This is our first episode of the year!

We often find ourselves distracted or even deceived for seasons in our lives and require the same kind of plea from a friend, a family member, or even a co-worker - to focus our attention on the right thing.

Pastor Kristin and Pastor Brian are back to talk about the faith of Abraham and how Paul brilliantly uses this pillar of faith to show the church in Galatia what they need to get back to focusing on. Galatians 3:1-14 is the passage for this episode.
Brian and Kristin continue their study of Galatians as they wrap up chapter 2. Paul confronts Peter about a major issue concerning salvation and how the Law can't save anyone. It's the graceful and loving act of Jesus that covers our sins and allows us to enter into an eternal relationship with Him. In Christ's act we find true freedom from the burden of the Law (in being perfect to gain salvation).
In this special episode Pastor Kristin gives Pastor Brian an update on how our Wednesday night Zoom Bible study is going. They are studying prayer and Kristin excitedly shares the content in this spirited discussion!
Paul is one fiery guy! In fact, it's probably what helped him accomplish all that he did for the early church and the spread of the gospel, even though he spent significant time in prison! Kristin and Brian (mostly Kristin this week) share from John 16:16-33. Jesus describes how sorrow turns to joy and how He has overcome the world.
Brian and Kristin dive deep into this incredible passage of Scripture. Jesus, in some of his last peaceful moments with his disciples, describes the work of the Holy Spirit and why it is necessary for Him to leave so the Spirit can come. The disciples are stunned and confused, but Jesus insists that the coming of the Holy Spirit will empower them to take the gospel to the ends of the earth.
Brian and Kristin wrap up chapter 15 of the Book of John this week and what a way to end! Jesus assures his disciples that the world will hate them because of who they belong to - Jesus, himself.

This week Brian and Kristin walk through a powerful and challenging passage where Christ is encouraging his disciples to bear good fruit, to obey his commandments to love one another, and to go while bearing good fruit! They also get into a little tangent about Sam's Club at the beginning, but "bear" with them as they have fun talking about their week leading into a great time of study.
Brian and Kristin are back to discuss the second half of John 14, and this is an incredible portion of Scripture! They talk about the state of the disciples, the peace Jesus is trying to share with them, the promise of the Helper (the Holy Spirit), and more.

Brian and Kristin are back after a week off and dive into John 13:18-38. In this passage Jesus and the disciples are lounging around the dinner table and Jesus points out who his betrayer will be - Judas. He also powerfully encourages his disciples to love one another (as Christ loves them) and that, in doing so, the world will know that they belong to Jesus. We also see Peter insist that he will defend Jesus with his life, at which point Jesus predicts the three denials. You don't want to miss this powerful episode of Joy & Java!
Brian flies solo this week and describes a big vision for the Pursuit Friends Network of House Churches for the next year. This past Sunday was another one of our monthly Night of Worship gatherings and Brian describes the experience.
Brian and Kristin discuss Sunday's joint service with Kent Chinese Friends Church and Winona Friends Church in Stow, Ohio. Dr. Greg Miller, President of Malone University joined us as he shared from Ephesians 3. We were also blessed to have a surprise visit from Rusty Savage, Director of Multiplication for EFC-ER! It was a blessed time in the Lord as three churches and a University came together in unity to worship and fellowship.
Brian and Kristin work through John 13:1-17 as they continue going through the book of John. This passage is of great importance as Jesus is spending his last few hours of freedom with his disciples. These are the things He wants them to learn and remember and practice. Grab a hot cup of coffee and join Pastors Brian and Kristin for this wonderful discussion.
Brian and Kristin discuss where they were, what it felt like, and how they prayed during the terrorist attacks on 9/11. They discuss the events and how they responded, how our nation responded, and focus in on the Word of God for hope, joy, and peace. This is a somber episode once they get into the heart of their discussion. We would like to thank all of our military service men and women who willingly lay down their lives for our nation, many whom joined the armed services soon after 9/11. We also wish to thank all of our 1st responders who lay their lives on the line everyday to heal, save, and protect us.

Brian and Kristin talk through John 8:1-31 and learn that Jesus is more interested in forgiveness and restoration than he is condemnation. He is concerned with truth and getting to the heart of the matter when it comes to the sin in our lives. He looks past circumstances and stares directly at our hearts. The Pharisees thought they had Jesus trapped, but instead they find themselves speechless as he frees the woman caught in adultery from her sin (by the way, where was the man?)! We had technical difficulties with the Zoom call, so please bear with us as there are several short moments where the audio is glitchy. Kristin and Brian are back to wrap up chapter six of John and they discover that Jesus gives us the choice as to whether or not to follow Him. Jesus doesn't force anyone to follow him, in fact, he lost many disciples/followers at the end of this passage. He describes himself and some find that Jesus was not going to do what they expected. He lets them go, but the twelve that remained (minus Judas, of course!), would go on to change the world.

Welcome to Season 2 of The Pursuit Friends Network Podcast! In this episode, Brian and Kristin share about the amazing Sunday we had as both house churches came together as one family to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. We talk about the perspective of all four gospels as they portrayed the story of Christ's resurrection from the dead and we gain keen insights to the people who were there witnessing and experiencing it. We apply that to our own lives and are encouraged to have peace, which only comes from the Lord.

He works with college students, church leaders, and marketplace leaders, to equip God’s people to reintegrate the Christian faith with all of life, especially their vocations. He disciples college students as a campus minister with CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach) at Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College. He is the author of Reintegrate Your Vocation with God’s Mission (Good Place Publishing, 2017), a seven-chapter Bible study with practical applications for whole-life discipleship. He holds the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Akron, the Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and the Doctor of Ministry in Faith, Vocation, and Culture from Covenant Theological Seminary. Bob lives near Canton, Ohio with his wife Linda. They have three young adult children, Trey, Joel, and Kaira.

This week, Brian and Kristin finish out chapter 3 of the Book of John. The end of chapter 3 takes an interesting look at a scene with John and his disciples as they grapple with the fact that Jesus and His disciples are getting more attention. John patiently reminds his disciples what the real goal is and brings them into further submission towards the plan of God and the role of Christ in that plan. We sometimes need reminded ourselves that we must decrease so the will and power and glory of God can increase in our own lives and circumstances. Patience is needed as God's timing is often far different from our own.

Jesus begins his public ministry after being baptized and some of John the Baptist's disciples decide to follow him. They are imperfect men with plenty of shortcomings yet Jesus welcomes them into relationship with him. He embraces their chaos and begins a relationship that will transform them into men who will effect and influence significant change throughout the course of history. Jesus could have chosen the brightest, most influential men of his time, but He chose simple, average, everyday men to change history. He invited the chaos of their imperfection, their doubt, their lack of faith, even their lack of education. We need to embrace the chaos of others if we want to effectively impact the world around us for the gospel. We have to be willing to walk with people in relationship. We need to journey with people just as Christ journeyed with His own disciples.
This week Brian and Kristin have a debate about the necessity of snow blowers in NE Ohio in light of the recent snow storm. They also continue in the book of John and discuss the role of John the Baptist, his humility, and his declarations concerning Jesus Christ. He makes several powerful and bold statements concerning the coming Messiah as Christ is about to step onto the scene publicly, taking disciples and beginning his three year ministry before facing a Roman cross. This is an exciting passage of Scripture and we hope you will be blessed and encouraged as we work through it.
