Welcome to Season 2 of The Pursuit Friends Network Podcast! We are excited to start the Spring and Summer seasons with fresh perspectives and fresh new episodes that will highlight all that is happening in our network of house churches. In this episode, Brian and Kristin share about the amazing Sunday we had as both house churches came together as one family to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. We talk about the perspective of all four gospels as they portrayed the story of Christ's resurrection from the dead and we gain keen insights to the people who were there witnessing and experiencing it. We apply that to our own lives and are encouraged to have peace, which only comes from the Lord.

Pastor Brian shares from Matthew 26 and the moments leading up to Christ's arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane.  The disciples had no idea what was about to happen as Jesus shared Passover with them.  Brian shares from his heart and encourages us in the love that Christ has for us all.  There are a couple special songs and even a time of communion.  Join us as we remember the sacrifice of Christ on the special Good Friday Edition of The Pursuit Friends Network Podcast.

This was a busy and exciting weekend for Pursuit as leadership joined with two other church planting movements on Saturday for fellowship and encouragement.  We also had our monthly Family Reunion/Night of Worship as a Network.  It was a special night of worship, hearing a word about John 5 from our own Aaron Bunnell, and partaking in communion and table fellowship.  This episode will encourage you as Brian and Kristin laugh more than normal in this report on how God is moving in giving us connection with other parts of the body of Christ.

Brian and Kristin talk about the amazing time they had, along with their spouses, at the Exponential Conference in Orlando, FL this past week!  God moved mightily in their lives and hearts as they worshipped and learned with over 5,000 other church leaders - the largest church planting conference of it's type in the U.S.  The stories you are about to hear with encourage you and challenge you in your own walk with the Lord.  This is part one of a two part conversation, so make sure to listen next week for the continuation of the story!

This week, Brian and Kristin finish out chapter 3 of the Book of John.  The end of chapter 3 takes an interesting look at a scene with John and his disciples as they grapple with the fact that Jesus and His disciples are getting more attention.  John patiently reminds his disciples what the real goal is and brings them into further submission towards the plan of God and the role of Christ in that plan.  We sometimes need reminded ourselves that we must decrease so the will and power and glory of God can increase in our own lives and circumstances.  Patience is needed as God's timing is often far different from our own.

This week's episode is an engaging discussion about the conversation Jesus had in the night with the Jewish leader, Nicodemus.  Jesus showed great patience with this man who came with a possible ulterior motive, but he answers his questions and gets right to the heart of the matter.  This passage is one of the most recognized and memorized in all the Bible, but there is so much depth to this passage even beyond the notable John 3:16 verse.  Kristin and Brian dive deep and challenge us to engage in true discipleship making and missional living.

Brian and Kristin wrap up the final passage of John 2.  Jesus clears the temple of the money changers and those making an unfair profit off the worship and sacrifice that was supposed to be happening during the Passover.  He makes a provocative and important statement about himself.  We also talk a little Super Bowl and Brian gets personal as he honors the life of Conni Raymont, a dear family member and aunt who passed away the day before the recording of this episode.

The discussion over John 2:13-25 starts at about the 20 minute mark.

Jesus begins his public ministry after being baptized and some of John the Baptist's disciples decide to follow him.  They are imperfect men with plenty of shortcomings yet Jesus welcomes them into relationship with him.  He embraces their chaos and begins a relationship that will transform them into men who will effect and influence significant change throughout the course of history.  Jesus could have chosen the brightest, most influential men of his time, but He chose simple, average, everyday men to change history.  He invited the chaos of their imperfection, their doubt, their lack of faith, even their lack of education.  We need to embrace the chaos of others if we want to effectively impact the world around us for the gospel.  We have to be willing to walk with people in relationship.  We need to journey with people just as Christ journeyed with His own disciples.

This week Brian and Kristin have a debate about the necessity of snow blowers in NE Ohio in light of the recent snow storm.  They also continue in the book of John and discuss the role of John the Baptist, his humility, and his declarations concerning Jesus Christ.  He makes several powerful and bold statements concerning the coming Messiah as Christ is about to step onto the scene publicly, taking disciples and beginning his three year ministry before facing a Roman cross.  This is an exciting passage of Scripture and we hope you will be blessed and encouraged as we work through it.

Brian and Kristin discuss John the Baptist's role in proclaiming the entrance of Christ as the Messiah.  John's role was to declare Jesus for who he was, and then to step out of the way.  In our culture, this is a hard and challenging concept.  We see John the Baptist do so, however, with great grace and faith.  He also makes some important statements in this passage concerning Jesus.

We're kicking off a new study on the life of Jesus from the perspective of John's gospel!  In this episode, Kristin and Brian dig deep into the first five verses of John (which holds one of the most important theological statements in all the Bible).  We are excited to study and discuss who Jesus was, what He taught, how He lived, and what our response should be as we follow Him.

This series will be an engaging and informative time of discovering and maybe rediscovering the truth about Jesus, his life, his words, and his impact upon eternity.  If you've never dived into a study of the life of Christ and have always wanted to, we invite you to join us on this journey.

Brian and Kristin discuss the differences between the disciples being made within the persecuted church in the middle east and the converts being made in the western church (predominantly in the U.S.).  Inspired by how God has been working in Pursuit Friends Network and a powerful video presentation that the Whitmer House Church watched and then discussed Sunday called "Discipleship in the Middle East with Pastor "X."  This video features an interview of a pastor in the Middle East who is leading an exploding movement of house churches in spite of intense persecution.

Pastor Jack Radcliffe from Ypsilanti, Michigan joins Brian for a frank and hard hitting discussion on church planting, discipleship, and deconstruction.  This is a revealing conversation by two church planting pastors about how God has been leading them through a season of deconstructing the very institution they have dedicated their lives to.  In this compelling episode, you will be challenged to examine your perceptions of what the church is and how we are actually called to live.  This conversation is raw and unscripted.

Brian and Kristin discuss this powerful chapter of 1st Samuel and how David had a very important choice to make on whether he should take Saul's life.  The circumstances, including a miraculous act of God, pointed to the opportunity to rid himself of Saul's jealousy and unfounded aggression and anger, to once and for all, claim his spot as the next anointed king of Israel.  But David chose to honor Saul and seek reconciliation instead, to trust God with the timing of his promise.  Don't miss this challenging and encouraging discussion!

Kristin and Brian are back to discuss the experience of starting a new house church including the struggles and the victories.  They encourage potential future house church leaders and/or new work starters to embrace the uncomfortable and unexpected as they step out into kingdom building efforts.  They also discuss 1st Samuel 10 as Saul is about to be anointed "king" of Israel.  We may scoff at Israel's need for this lesser king, but often do the same in our own lives as we build up many idols around us that end up taking the place of God for the joy, hope, and peace we seek.
