Jeff Teichert discusses the landmark case of Craddick Development v. Craddick in the High Court of American Samoa, which considered whether: (1) conveyance of a beneficial interest in land to a non-Samoan constitutes "alienation" of land in violation of American Samoa's race restrictive land alienation laws and; (2) if so, does the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution forbid the enforcement of the land alienation laws?
One of the most volatile social issues of our time occurs when the civil rights of LGBT individuals are in conflict with the exercise of conscience in religious matters. Jeff discusses the Supreme Court's narrow ruling in Fulton v. Philadelphia with Georgia College law professor Adam Lamparello. Jeff and Adam attempt to answer the question of whether the right to the free exercise of religion provides an exemption from generally applicable laws that burden religious practices. The Supreme Court dodged this issue in favor of a much more narrow ruling that raises more questions than it answers.

Jeff discusses the sophisticated legal and philosophical arguments made at the trial of King Charles I in 1649 by a special court, created by the Puritan Parliament, just for the purpose of trying the king. Jeff explores how these arguments relate to the freedoms Americans take for granted today. The king chose to represent himself and appeared without an attorney. He based his entire defense on the idea that the court had no jurisdiction over him. It involves theories of divine right, sovereignty, popular consent, and the king's relationship to the law.
