A groundbreaking female firefighter, Cindie Schooner-Ball lived for the thrill of riding backwards on a fire truck, code 3 with lights flashing, sirens wailing, and horns blasting, heading towards that ominous cloud of black smoke. In her captivating memoir, she vividly describes these high-adrenaline experiences and the stunned look on onlookers' faces when she got off the truck, put on her hood, face mask, and helmet, and theyrealized she was a woman. Hired in June 1987 by a large urban Fire-Rescue Department in South Florida, Cindie rose through the ranks as a firefighter, driver-engineer, paramedic and lieutenant while also earning a degree in fire science. She retired as a captain in 2015 after 28 years on the force.

Throughout her career, she had been asked so many questions about how she managed to excel while working in this male-dominated profession that she decided to write Sister in a Brotherhood to share her story. Cindie recognized early that in order to succeed as both a firefighter and a woman would require perseverance, grit, and the ability to command respect.

You will understand why firefighting is Cindie's calling and passion when you read this inspiring book. She shares memorable moments in working and living with other first responders who are dedicated to helping people in crisis. Cindie encourages anyone who wants to serve - especially women who have the desire to enter this noble profession - to pursuetheir dream, as she did.

Cindie Schooner-Ball began her career as a firstresponder with the fire service in the mid-80s. She recognized early on that to succeed as both a firefighter and a woman in a mostly male workplace would require perseverance, grit, and the ability to command respect. Over her three-decade career, she pushed herself to tackle new challenges and rise intoleadership positions.

She became an EMT and then a paramedic, while also earning a degree in fire science. When she finally achieved the rank ofcaptain, she was the only woman at the induction ceremony. Now retired, she loves speaking to people about her experiences as a first responder and as a woman in a male-dominated industry. She lives with her husband Mark, and her German shepherd, Chewie, in Florida. To learn more, visitSisterinaBrotherhood.com.

Chris Bennett is a pastor, storyteller, writer, and producer originally from Dallas, Texas. Julie Bennett is a writer, producer, speaker, and two-time cancer survivor from Edmond, Oklahoma. Together, Chris and Julie are the founders of Welcome Home Lifestyle, a production company which exists to create and promote content celebrating healthy, thriving families, friendships, and communities. Their love for people and entertainment led them and their four kids to uproot their lives and relocate from Oklahoma to Los Angeles in 2018. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she bravely battled over the next three years. Faced with a cancer diagnosis, relapse, and worldwide pandemic, Chris and Julie would come to redefine the ways in which they care for others, both as a nuclear family and as part of a broader community. Both Julie and Chris are graduates of Baylor University and have spent the majority of their 23 years of marriage working in vocational ministry. Through overwhelming challenges, they have learned how to fight for the things that matter and devote themselves to helping others do the same. Alongside their passion for building belonging for others, they love nothing more than beach football, spontaneous road trips, and throwing a good party. Chris and Julie are also co-hosts of the Becoming Family podcast and are in the process of developing a docs-series where they explore the power and diversity of family through the stories of those who have experienced it. The Bennetts currently reside in Malibu, CA where Chris serves as lead pastor of Vintage Church Malibu.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Fighting for Family: The Relentless Pursuit of Building Belonging

When Chris and Julie Bennett and their four kids decided to move from Norman, Oklahoma, to Los Angeles, they knew they were setting out on a great adventure. They’d be leaving behind the church Chris and Julie had pastored, the comfort of their community, and the familiarity of their daily routines, but the new city promised to bring some much-needed change. Most of all, they looked forward to connecting with others in one of the most disconnected cities in the United States. What they didn’t expect was how this adventure – complicated by a cancer diagnosis, a relapse, and a worldwide pandemic – would challenge their notions of what it means to care for each other well, both as a nuclear family and as part of a broader community. It turns out that becoming family is stressful, messy, exhausting – and absolutely, totally worth fighting for. In a time when so many suffer from loneliness and it feels like developing authentic relationships is impossible, Chris and Julie invite you to step into their story to discover the fundamentals that lead to healthy, thriving families and friendships. You’ll discover the power of embracing vulnerability, accepting imperfection, and extending forgiveness, while finding fulfillment through enforcing boundaries and honoring and serving others.

This episode is a conversation based on the following quote by Roy T. Bennett, “Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.”

BETH FISHER-YOSHIDA, PH.D., CCS, is a global expert and educator in intercultural negotiation and communication. She’s the program director of Columbia University’s Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, a negotiation consultant for the United Nations, and the CEO of the consulting agency Fisher Yoshida International. She works in the U.S. and worldwide, conducting workshops on leadership, culture, workplace conflict, and negotiation, and boasts a client list that includes Fortune 100 companies, nonprofits, military and security forces, governments, NGOs, and educational institutions. Her new book, New Story, New Power: A Woman’s Guide to Negotiation(Bold Story Press; January 23, 2023), helps women of all ages make successful negotiations a reality. Learn more at bethfisheryoshida.com

She works in the U.S. and globally, conducting workshops on leadership, culture, workplace conflict and negotiation. Her clients include fortune 100, the UN, non-profit sector, military, government, NGOs, and universities.

Beth began working at Columbia University in 1997 and full-time in 2002. She has directed the MS program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution for the past 15 years. Her practice, writing and applied research are in three main areas.

One is in negotiation, particularly women and negotiation. She has collected research and experience coaching many professional women in the workplace and put it together in a new, practical book, New Stories, New Power: A Woman’s Guide to Negotiation. Her work needs to be practical because she started as a practitioner before moving on the continuum to being a scholar-practitioner. When Beth learns something new she always asks, “How can I use that?”

The second area of focus is workplace conflict. She has worked with groups that just want to do what they do better and with groups that are really toxic creating an unhealthy work environment. Starting with a confidential needs assessment she tries to answer the question, “What’s really going on here?” so they can co-create interventions on different levels. This could involve workshops, coaching, systemic change.

The third area is a focus on youth leadership, especially peacebuilding and transitioning out of conflict. Most of her work has been in Colombia working with youth and community leaders. She has had the good fortune to meet and work with an amazing group of very talented and aspirational leaders over the years. Many of them use the arts as a means of expression, social entrepreneurship, and sustainability. One of the ways in which Beth thinks she can add value here is writing to amplify their voices and provide opportunities for their advancement.

The threads from her earlier interests, travels, and studies have all woven together to create who she is today. When Beth looks back, it seems that it was all planned. However, not all of it was. Her MO was, if it was fun and interesting, she’s in. And here she is.

Kalee Boisvert has been in the financial industry for over 15 years, but her love of money started very young. Growing up in a single parent household, she watched her mom struggle with finances and wished there was something she could do to help. Around this time, she realized she needed to find her own way to save and earn if she wasn’t going to allow her circumstances to define her. And so, her own journey to financial literacy began.

Today, as a single mom and financially independent woman, Kalee is called to support women in their financial lives. She felt the pull toward a career that would allow her to pursue this deeply personal goal to advocate for women and their money, which led her on the path to becoming a financial advisor. Being an advisor allows her to work directly with women to empower and support them and help put an end to any money-related stress and doubts.

To further her efforts supporting financial literacy, Kalee has two books being released in 2023 – a children’s picture book called MoneyWise Mabel’s Bursting Bank, and a non-fiction book called Make Money Your Thing! Which aims to build confidence and empower people in their financial lives.

With inspiration from her own life, Kalee Boisvert has developed an easy-to-use system for women, young and old, to take control of their finances.

Make Money Your Thing is an approachable guide to take women on a journey from avoidance and overwhelm to feeling comfortable and in control of their finances. This book provides simple action steps to learn the basics of money management, understand the importance of balancing the books, and embrace the uniqueness of your own personal situation. The end result is women feeling good about where their finances are right now, and building a solid foundation for where you want to go in the future. Jennifer Sontag, a serial entrepreneur, is the owner of Italian Citizenship Concierge, a bespoke citizenship agency that helps Italian Americans gain citizenship in Italy through Jure Sanguinis. Currently living in Terrasini, Sicily, Jennifer sets out to help her clients gain a new outlook on life in Italy. Jennifer grew up in a big Italian American family where her nonna and 9 sisters would spend their days preparing delicious meals to share with family. Mamma to 2 beautiful adults, and nonna to adorable Oliver. Jennifer has a passion for all things Sicilian and loves to enjoy good food and wine with friends.

I can’t remember a time in my life when I did not dream of living in Italy. Life however, had other plans for me. In my mid-40s, I found myself at a crossroads. I was suddenly divorced (literally 3 weeks from leaving, the divorce was finalized), my son had just married, and my daughter had just finished university. This was the first time the idea of moving to Italy seemed like a real possibility.

I took an Love, Work, Eat approach to my move to Italy over 5 years. I had a lot of work to do personally and professionally before I could settle into Italy. I moved home to St. Louis (March 2017) to learn to Love myself again. I focused all my energy on rebuilding my self-esteem and health. I learned to nourish my body and soul inside and out with fresh, healthy food and daily yoga. Once I was feeling in tune with myself, it was time to Work (my personal religion). I moved to Shanghai China (August 2018) to teach business management. After 5 years away from the business world, I wanted to get back to my professional roots in business with a twist. I became a teacher. This was the perfect way for me to connect with a profession I love and excel at, while giving back to the next generation of business leaders. After 2.5 years in Shanghai, I was ready to EAT. It was time to move to Italy for the final step in my journey. I arrived in Sicily (March 2021) to apply for recognition of my Italian citizenship.

I own my own business in Sicily. I have been an entrepreneur since I was 10 years old when I made my first flyers to pass out in my neighborhood announcing my babysitting services. My first tax paying business came a couple years later at 19 when I opened a maternity and baby clothing boutique. At the age of 19, Jennifer opened her first boutique, specializing in maternity and baby clothing. At 28, she sold The Stork’s Nest to Macy’s. From there, she owned high end boutiques that catered to clients like Michelle Obama and Madeleine Albright. I was young when I had my first child, and I was a shopper who loved style. My first business to fill a market void was launched to combat the hideous early 90s big-bow, baby doll maternity clothes that made adult women look like overgrown toddlers at a price that made my eyes water.

I had spent my time in China preparing for my citizenship recognition, I met with traditional service providers and attorneys, I scoured FB groups and subreddits for information and support. I found a hodgepodge of information, costs, discouragement, challenges and very little that was positive, supportive, and affordable. Discouraged after sending a lot of money to an attorney who could not fulfill the contract, upset by the angry responses in a well-known FB group, and unable to afford the eye-water prices of overly formal and complicated service providers, I arrived in Sicily for recognition, DIY (I don’t recommend trying this).

In Spring of 2021, 30 years after launching my maternity store, I returned to my roots to fill the citizenship assistance market gap. I opened Italian Citizenship Concierge, a female-owned, female-focused, supportive, and affordable agency to assist Italian descendants move to Italy for their citizenship recognition through the Jure Sanguinis process. This makes the move for la dolce vita smooth and easy.

C-Suite Executive, Conscientious Leader, Board Director, Dynamic Speaker, Author, Diversity Champion, Relentless Focus on Achieving, Outcomes while Developing Strong Cultures &Employee Engagement

No stranger to the corporate board room, by the time Victoria was 24 years old, she was COO of a multinational corporation. Now with 20+ years in corporate leadership, Victoria has held senior roles in companies such as Accenture, IBM, and American Express.

Victoria is a 20+ year Corporate Executive and Board Director. Nicknamed the “Turn Around Queen” by former colleagues and employers, Victoria inspires and empowers her team and clients to change mindsets and drive growth in business, leadership and culture.

Victoria has never let circumstances stand in her way. Growing up in an abusive home until she was removed and later adopted, Victoria’s childhood was filled with abuse, sexual assault, and physical violence. But none of that has stopped her. Victoria has overcome tremendous odds to pursue a life of corporate success and leadership. It’s easy to let our circumstances stand in our way. But we don’t have to. Circumstances of our past only rob us of our future if we let them. Victoria chose not to let her circumstances be her excuses. By age 24, Victoria was offered her first executive role with a large, dynamic and fast paced organization. Yes, that’s dreadfully young to have such accountability and responsibility. It was her tenacity of spirit, her confidence that she could do the job, and her grit to see that she could rise to the occasion, empowered by the leaders around her that led to her success.

As a member of the LGBTQ community, Victoria knows about diversity and inclusion, and why one without the other is of little value. It’s not enough to have other voices at the table when those opinions aren’t being heard. Victoria’s messages have stemmed from her struggle, and success, in being accepted as a woman in the male dominated board room, and as a member of the LGBTQ community. I am honoured to be a contributing author to “Unstoppable” – a new book featuring stories of professionals and entrepreneurs who have embraced this way of living and are unstoppable in life and in business. Many of you have heard me refer to it as my #NoExcuses mantra and philosophy! My chapter – “The Courage to Live” is where I share details of overcoming tremendous obstacles growing up, building resilience and have the courage to live and lead.

As a prolific motivational and inspirational speaker, Victoria has delivered keynotes discussing the importance of personal branding and its impact on professional growth; being an empathetic leader in empowering employees; the power of DEI on corporate cultures and building a life of resilience.

Prior to Now, Lara co-founded Nourish (the manufacturing company), and Insomnia, LLC, a firm specializing in investment, development, and management of complex and innovative “world-changing” projects. Her background also includes 5 years with Dewberry Capital Corporation, an Atlanta-based commercial real estate development and investment firm, where she served as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

Her product experience includes Dunk, a performance footwear and apparel manufacturing/retail company built on the concept of mass customization and founded with Shaquille O’Neal & Mike Piazza, where she served as Executive Vice President.

Lara received an MBA from the Harvard Business School, and a BS in Aerospace Engineering with highest honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Today, she serves as a Trustee of the Georgia Tech Foundation in addition to other Boards. E&Y recognized Lara as a 2018 Finalist for the Southeast Entrepreneur of the Year.

Now was created by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs.

In 2010, we created NowAccount ® because waiting for our customers to pay their invoices was causing our business to grow out of business. Initially, we celebrated landing big contracts and getting big orders from customers, but weeks and weeks would pass before invoices would get paid. We needed working capital to pay our suppliers and our employees but our cash was tied up in our unpaid invoices. Basically we were a free bank to our customers.

Everyone told us to get a line of credit or try factoring (we call factoring the “f word”), and we thought, “Why should we have to borrow money or factor when we are the lender? There had to be a better way!”

Now there is a better way! (every pun intended). With NowAccount, businesses can get paid their actual revenue immediately without being forced to turn to risky and expensive loans or factoring.

Valorie Kondos Field is the retired head coach of the seven-time NCAA Champion, 22-time Regional and 18-time Pac 12 Champion UCLA Women’s Gymnastics team. Inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010, the four-time “National Coach of the Year” was also named “West Region Coach” of the Year and Pac 12 “Coach of the Century” for her solid track record as a preeminent coach.

Affectionately known by her gymnasts as “Miss Val,” her reputation is only one reason that 46 former US national team members came through her program and why half of the last two Olympic teams committed to UCLA. Valorie’s coaching success can be attributed to her extraordinary leadership and mentorship of young student-athletes, and the way in which she used gymnastics as an avenue through which to teach valuable life lessons, while encouraging individuality and joy. Something Valorie learned from the late John Wooden, the legendary and most successful collegiate basketball coach of all time, who was one of her biggest inspirations, as well as a close mentor and friend.

Valorie began her career as a professional ballet dancer and choreographer for the Washington, DC and Sacramento Ballet Companies. Although never a gymnast herself, she’s transferred to her student-athletes all she learned in the world of classical dance. The result of which resulted in nearly three decades of coaching one of the premiere athletic programs in any sport, mentoring hundreds of elite athletes, including Olympic champions Jordan Wieber, Kyla Ross and Madison Kocian, among others.

Also known as the nation’s foremost gymnastics choreographer, Miss Val’smany credits include choreographing and directing a myriad of live variety shows, such as the NCAA Opening Ceremonies for Women’s Basketball, a flash mob of famed female athletes and coaches at the inaugural Aurora Games, a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar roast, CBS’s “Jump, Jive & Thrive” Breast Cancer Research Foundation benefit, and 26 years of cirque-type shows for SeaWorld’s Summer Nights and the San Diego Zoo. Current projects include additional live stage shows, TV specials, events and the development of a theatrical musical, plus the highly anticipated post-Olympic “Gold Over America Tour” featuring an all-star team of female gymnastics champions, headlined by Simone Biles and also featuring Olympian Jordan Chiles and viral sensation, Katelyn Ohashi, which will begin in Fall 2021 and is slated to visit more than 35 U.S. cities, celebrating powerful female athletes in a high-octane, fun-filled experience.

She is a dynamic and charismatic speaker with an extensive schedule of“Corporate Coaching” events for national companies including JP Morgan Chase, General Electric, Gucci, AT&T and Jackson National Life Insurance, and has contributed to various panel discussions including Bustle’s “Rule Breakers” and the ESPNW Summit. In her TEDWomen 2019 talk, Miss Val inspires people to reevaluate their definition of success. She maintains that real success is developing champions in life, and that in order to motivate success, we need to inspire those whom we lead without compromising the human spirit.

As a recent breast cancer survivor, Valorie’s positive outlook and hope-filled message is impactful. She empowered her athletes to use their voices, to celebrate themselves, and to enjoy the elite sport that has damaged so many in the past.

She also shared her motivating and inspirational messages with the world, with her book, “LIFE IS SHORT, DON’T WAIT TO DANCE: Advice and Inspiration from the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame Coach of 7 NCAA Championship Teams,” which was released in Fall 2018 by the Hachette Book Group. It expounds on her life philosophy: “Don’t wait to see what life is going to hand you, take control of your life and design ~ choreograph it exactly how you want it to turn out.”

Becky Bursell is a Business Coach and entrepreneur. She has led, built and managed teams of over 800,000 business owners spanning in over 60 countries, and responsible for over $1 billion in sales during the last decade.

She is currently serving as the Executive Vice President for The Maxwell Leadership organization and responsible for creating, developing and marketing their personal growth solutions and products.

Becky’s passion is helping people recognize greatness within themselves. She shows others how to become the “Greatest Version of You” by pursuing personal development, generating multiple streams of income and cultivating leadership skills. Becky has learned that most people achieve success by concentrating on personal growth instead of personal goals. She teaches that being growth-oriented is more impactful than being goal-oriented. “Happiness doesn’t come from achieving goals,” Becky explained. “It comes from becoming the Greatest Version of You!”

Becky admits that for the first part of her life she was focused on perfectionism instead of purpose. Now she understands that perfection doesn’t exist. “In order to be happy with yourself and grow into a true leader, you must learn how to let go of the idea of perfectionism and embrace your flaws, weaknesses and doubts right along-side your strengths. You must become the leader you would want to follow. If you are intentional about helping others grow, you will find success,” Becky explains.

Becky, her husband, John, and their three children reside in Utah. They enjoy spending time traveling, boating and relaxing at their family ranch in California.

Becky Bursell is recognized for her relentless pursuit to help those who want to learn, grow and succeed. Her story is an intriguing journey. Becky was a stay-at-home mother with a stay-at-work husband John. Then she heard about a networking opportunity at a home meeting and recognized the opportunity that could provide relief for her husband who was working an exhausting 80-hour-a-week job as a systems engineer. With an initially reluctant husband, two young children to care for and no network marketing experience, Becky began her pursuit with abandon. From that first day, she began to see herself growing and developing both personally and professionally. She credits other leaders and mentors who guided her along the way and helped her build a solid organization. Today, she is an influencer to others. Her advice is simple yet profound centered on a theme of perseverance, “Just work and work and work, and never give up on yourself. You can do this, and you can have everything you want.” In between business, Becky caters also to needs in third world countries such as Ecuador or Peru and helping build schools & playgrounds to provide fresh run in water & food for people in need.

There are two simple but strong words that describe Jill Donovan perfectly, “passionate“ and “purposeful”. Founder of Rustic Cuff and author of The Kindness Effect, Jill graduated

from Oral Roberts University and went on to earn her law degree from the University of Tulsa. She is married to Terry, her college sweetheart and has two beautiful daughters.

Jill was a practicing attorney and adjunct law professor at TU when her passion for cuff bracelets, and her need to refill her ‘gift closet’ led her to begin Rustic Cuff. The brand has evolved into multiple showroom locations, over 150 employees, and a very strong, loving, social media fan base that feel a true connection with her! Her cuffs are regularly featured on multiple national TV shows and can be seen on the wrists of many celebrities such as Miranda Lambert, Gayle King, and even her all time favorite singer, Michael Bublé.

Jill’s heart for people and community has spilled over into this amazing company. Rustic Cuff has been able to give hundreds of thousands of dollars to communities and charitable causes and hosted an annual black-tie event, that raised more money for the National Pancreatic Foundation than any other event in its history!

From a very young age, Jill has met life with humor and zeal. Her determination to be well rounded, led her to challenge herself to master a new talent every year. Whether it is learning a new language, tap dancing, ice skating, or simply setting a goal for herself that to some may seem unreachable, one thing is for certain...

Jill is a walking example of living out the quote, “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

Jill is a sought-after motivational speaker who encourages people to pursue their passions, fulfill their God-given purpose, and always pay it forward! She is often heard saying, “You truly can change your world… one act of kindness at a time.”

Philecia La'Bounty said that at 29-years-old, she never thought she'd be diagnosed with cancer. "Even when I was diagnosed, it was really hard to process because I had no other symptoms. I had clean bloodwork," she said. After discovering the lump in her breast, she went to a free clinic in to have it checked out. La'Bounty said she was told it was just a benign cyst. When she asked for a mammogram, the doctor submitted her request, but it was denied because of her young age and the fact that she did not have a family history of cancer. After much persistence, Philecia had 8 biopsies and was eventually diagnosed with Stage 4 Ductile Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS) that had spread to her lungs, lymph nodes and sternum. La'Bounty said she will likely be on chemotherapy drugs for the rest of her life.

Living out action words is Wendie Murfee Cook’s life. She learned early on that DRIVE makes things happen, and she needed to be at her best in whatever she did. Deep family love, a strong moral compass, a meaningful education, and personal excellence — never was there even an inkling that these traits were a choice.

Growing up in Lubbock, she comes from a line of strong, God-fearing, independent women. Wendie was born with an intrinsic drive and a visionary spirit that she has learned to NAVIGATE.

Her first career was in a small, high-end Interior Design and Architecture firm in Big D. For the most part it was a dream job — she enjoyed large budgets, cross-country travel, and incredible design opportunities. It was a good first career, living the proverbial high life, or so it looked from the outside. GRIT seems the perfect first word for that time. Those tremendous experiences marked her life and set her stage. But she needed more, and TRUST comes next to mind on her life path.

Courage describes her second career, one that came out of the blue. For the past 11 years, Wendie has been Executive Director of The Citadelle Art Museum in Canadian. She had zero museum credentials to take this job, other than a visionary brain, leadership qualities, and a childhood of tromping around art galleries with her artist grandmother. In Wendie, the Museum founders saw traits that allowed them to freely pass their gift into her hands, and she has built The Citadelle and its programs from the ground up. She likely should add CRAZY to her list of words, for several reasons.

In her community, Wendie is elected to the Canadian City Council, serves on the Economic Development Corporation, and is a member of the Texas Cultural Trust. Also requiring her creativity and calendar time are numerous appointments to statewide boards for arts, culture, and heritage. High speed is her only speed.

During her time at the University of North Texas she interned on Capitol Hill in 2004 for Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. A semester internship turned into a year, when she was chosen as the sole intern in the West Wing of the White House during President George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election.

After completing her West Wing internship, Kim returned to UNT in 2005 to complete her B.A. in Political Science. Kim is currently the Campaign Manager and Fundraiser to Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. and has served in that capacity since August of 2005.

Founder of Rustic Cuff and author of The Kindness Effect, Jill graduated from Oral Roberts University and went on to earn her law degree from the University of Tulsa. She is married to Terry, her college sweetheart and has two beautiful daughters.

Jill was a practicing attorney and adjunct law professor at Tulsa University when her passion for cuff bracelets, and her need to refill her ‘gift closet’ led her to begin Rustic Cuff. Her cuffs are regularly featured on multiple national TV shows and can be seen on the wrists of many celebrities such as Miranda Lambert, Gayle King, and even her all time favorite singer, Michael Bublé.

Jill’s heart for people and community has spilled over into this amazing company. From a very young age, Jill has met life with humor and zeal. Her determination to be well rounded, led her to challenge herself to master a new talent every year. Whether it is learning a new language, tap dancing, ice skating, or simply setting a goal for herself that to some may seem unreachable, one thing is for certain...Jill is a walking example of living out the quote, “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

Back in 2009, Dr. Heather Walker became fascinated by the idea that having fun at work could lead to a levity effect, where businesses can actually reap benefits from their employees lightening up.

She went on a journey with a small team of graduate students at Saint Louis University to identify and understand the components of levity at work.

Through her dissertation research, Dr. Heather Walker studied 800+ professionals, and she too discovered that higher levels of levity are related to higher levels of several employee impressions.

Sensing global despair and utter chaos, Dr. Heather Walker shed her alter ego and took to the skies to bring levity to workplaces everywhere.

Her mission is clear: To support leaders who care about the environment they create with data and insights that improve levity at work.

In an effort to help others, Dr. Heather Walker embarked on a journey to uncover the glue that binds us together at work. Using employee stories as the basis of her exploration, she was able to detect a common thread among those who love their work environment–levity. This was not a well-researched concept at the time–no definition, no validated surveys, no data. She used the stories to carve out a definition of levity and its components (i.e., amusement, edification, and buoyancy).

She pioneered scale development and validated the Levity at Work Scale. In partnership with fellow leaders and organizations, she continues to collect stories and seeks to understand how the academic model works in practical settings.

Together we can transform the employee experience–one office at a time.
