Stone was joined this week by Montana State wide receiver Taco Dowler, who proudly represents Montana State in the nationwide fight to raise money and awareness for children and families battling cancer on behalf of Northwestern Mutual and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, along with Devin Coyle, District Director for Northwestern Mutual in Bozeman, Montana, for a special Honorary Captain of the Week episode of FCS Nation Radio.

A Billings, Montana native and one of the most dynamic all-around players in the FCS, Dowler joins the show just days before stepping onto the biggest stage in the subdivision, as Montana State prepares to compete for the FCS National Championship on Monday, January 5 in Nashville. The conversation centers on his journey from Billings to Bozeman, the growth that comes with becoming a leader, and the responsibility of representing both his program and a cause bigger than football.

Dowler reflects on how his role has evolved within Montana State’s offense, what leadership truly looks like inside a championship locker room, and how accountability, preparation, and belief have shaped this Bobcats team throughout the season. We dive into the depth and chemistry of the wide receiver room, the importance of embracing different skill sets, and why this group has taken a collective step forward at the right time.

Devin Coyle provides insight into the local impact behind the Northwestern Mutual x FCS Nation Radio x Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Challenge, explaining what it means for the Bozeman community to rally around Taco as an Honorary Captain. He discusses Northwestern Mutual’s long-standing commitment to fighting childhood cancer and how local leadership helps turn fan support into meaningful, nationwide impact.

The episode also explores why Taco was selected as an Honorary Captain of the Week, how he’s using his platform to support kids and families across the country facing cancer, and why this mission carries added weight as he prepares for a national championship opportunity.

An episode about leadership, purpose, and playing for something greater, on the field and beyond it.

The FCS National Championship has finally arrived, and FCS Nation Radio is on the ground in Nashville to preview the biggest night of the season. Stone and Kevin take a deep dive into how Illinois State and Montana State navigated one of the most unpredictable playoff paths in recent memory, starting with a breakdown of the semifinal matchups and the defining moments that punched each team’s ticket to the title game.

We examine Illinois State’s improbable postseason run, a team that refused to listen to projections, won four straight road games, and found its best football when the margin for error was razor thin. From the Redbirds’ offensive playmakers stepping up in clutch moments to a defense that transformed week by week, we discuss how belief, balance, and timely execution have carried them to the brink of a championship.

On the other side, Montana State arrives with championship expectations and unfinished business. We analyze how the Bobcats evolved over the course of the season, why their offensive rhythm has hit another level down the stretch, and how a physical, opportunistic defense has consistently flipped games in their favor. From quarterback play to the run game to the impact of defensive stars, we break down what makes Montana State so difficult to slow down, and where pressure could still show up under the bright lights.

Stone and Kevin go position by position, highlight the key matchups that could swing the outcome, and discuss which team controls the pace, the turnover battle, and the emotional edge in a championship environment. We also talk legacy, urgency, and what a national title would mean for two programs that have waited, and suffered, to get back to this stage.

We wrap the episode with our official picks and final score predictions as kickoff approaches.

The boys are live in Nashville all week, follow the journey, the analysis, and the championship coverage at @fcsnationradio1 and @labanowitzstone.

This week’s episode takes us to Carbondale, where Southern Illinois linebacker Chris Presto has quickly become more than just a defensive leader for the Salukis, he’s stepped into a much bigger role as our latest Honorary Captain of the Week in the Northwestern Mutual x FCS Nation x Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Challenge. Presto opens up about why the fight against childhood cancer is deeply personal, how every dollar raised can change a family’s story, and why this season’s challenge is about far more than football.

Joining the conversation is Jenna Distler, Director of Campus Selection for the Gross Network Office of Northwestern Mutual, who has played an essential role in connecting Chris with this opportunity and helping him set the foundation to make a serious run at the 2025-2026 Lemon Trophy. Together, they talk about what it means to take on this challenge, the power of rallying an entire community behind a cause, and how Carbondale can step up to support Chris as he leads the charge both on and off the field.

At the end of the day, Presto reminds us that while football teaches resilience, the real battles are being fought by kids and families facing childhood cancer every single day — and that’s the team he’s proud to suit up for.

In this episode, we dive into the inspiring efforts of Southern Illinois University linebacker Chris Presto, who was named this week's Alex's Lemonade Stand Honorary Captain. Chris has raised over $1,000 in just a week, showing his deep commitment to making a difference in the fight against childhood cancer. Alongside him is Steve Gross, Managing Partner at Northwestern Mutual St. Louis, whose company has partnered with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to fund more than 700,000 hours of research and donate over $60 million since 2012.

This year’s challenge brings together 12 universities within the FCS Nation with a shared goal to raise over $250,000 for childhood cancer research and support. These players, like Chris, are influencing the next generation of philanthropic leaders, inspiring communities, businesses, and universities to rally behind their efforts. Through this partnership, families are not only receiving hope for new treatments but also vital support for travel and accommodations as their children undergo life-saving care.

Chris and Steve’s passion shines through in this conversation, demonstrating how powerful the intersection of sports and philanthropy can be. Their collective efforts serve as a reminder that every action counts in the fight against childhood cancer, a disease that affects over 1,000 children daily and is the leading cause of death by disease in children ages 1 to 19 in the U.S., yet receives only 4% of federal funding.

Chris, along with many others, is doing something about that!!!

Honorary Captain of the Week: Jett Booker Joins the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

In this special episode of FCS Nation Radio, we sit down with Jett Booker, redshirt junior wide receiver for Southeastern Louisiana University, to highlight his role in our ongoing fight against childhood cancer, presented by Northwestern Mutual and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Jett, a standout both on the field and in the classroom, shares his excitement about being part of this meaningful cause. We explore how his personal connection to Childhood Cancer Awareness Month has motivated him to make an impact beyond football. Jett also talks about his internship with Northwestern Mutual and how it has shaped his vision for life after sports, along with the guidance he’s received from Avril Habitz, Managing Partner of Northwestern Mutual Louisiana.

Join us as we kick off the Lion-Up for Lemonade campaign on September 21st—our first big event as we work toward our overall goal of raising $250,000 to support childhood cancer research. Jett invites you to join the mission, compete off the field, and change lives.

Want to help us hit our goal? Head to fcsnationradio.com and visit the Alex’s Lemonade Stand landing page to donate to Jett and the Lions’ campaign. Every donation brings us one step closer to making a real difference for kids battling cancer!

From breaking records to slinging touchdowns, Paxton’s journey from Central Methodist to SEMO has been nothing short of electric.

In this episode, I’m joined by Avril Habetz, Managing Partner/CEO for Northwestern Mutual of Louisiana & Mississippi. With over two decades of experience and a host of qualifications, Avril is a powerhouse in the financial industry, known for her commitment to developing top-tier advisors who positively impact their clients and communities. We discuss Avril’s involvement in the fight against childhood cancer through Northwestern Mutual’s partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the FCS Nation Athlete Challenge. Last year, 13 football stars from 11 FCS universities raised $45,000 for childhood cancer research, and this year’s goal is set at $250,000. Avril shares her insights on the importance of supporting families facing the financial burdens of cancer treatment and how the next generation of athletes and leaders are stepping up for this vital cause.

Tune in to learn more about Avril’s inspiring journey and Northwestern Mutual’s ongoing dedication to accelerating childhood cancer research and supporting those affected.

In this episode of FCS Nation Radio, we’re excited to sit down with Chris Schenkel, Managing Partner of Northwestern Mutual in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to talk about a cause that hits home for many: the fight against childhood cancer. As September marks Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re diving into how Northwestern Mutual’s partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is making a real difference for kids battling this disease.

Chris breaks down how Northwestern Mutual’s dedication to funding pediatric cancer research aligns with our mission: to change the lives of children with cancer by funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering communities to help find a cure. Since Alex’s first lemonade stand in 2000, the foundation has raised more than $300 million, funded over 1,500 research projects, and supported nearly 30,000 families.

We also give our listeners a lay of the land on how this partnership works. Through Northwestern Mutual's involvement and our radio show, fans of the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) can be part of this mission by rooting for their favorite athletes and schools while raising funds. Each week, we’ll highlight athletes, FCS teams, and Northwestern Mutual partners who challenge their fanbases to get involved. Fans can contribute by pledging donations for touchdowns, wins, or simply cheering on their teams, with all proceeds going directly to childhood cancer research and support.

Last year, we raised $45,000, and this year, we’re going big—aiming to raise over a quarter of a million dollars! We explain exactly how you, our audience, can take part in this game-changing mission: whether it’s through donations, hosting your own events, or spreading awareness, every effort counts. Tune in and learn how you can help us change the game both on and off the field with Kevin & Stone.
