In Ephraim’s rebellion, they turned away from God, but he was ready to restore them upon their repentance.  God instructed them to put markers along the highway as they went away so that they would know how to return to their own land.  Upon their return, God promised to bless them, allow them to dwell in Judah, and satisfy their weary soul.  If you have turned away from God, he is waiting for your return.  (Read Jeremiah 31:18-26). Through his death burial and resurrection, he has opened up a new dwelling place in heaven for us who believe.  We are to continually give thanks and praise to God through Jesus Christ.  And we should never forget it is pleasing to God to share with those less fortunate than we are.
