Dr. Pedro “Cuba Pete” Greer Jr. will be your host. As he prepares to be the Founding Dean of Roseman College of Medicine, Las Vegas’ newest medical school, his goal is to learn from his guests how to create the medical school and healthcare system of the future. Joe sits down with Dr. Marin Gillis, PhD, LPh, Senior Executive Dean for Faculty Affairs and
Learning Innovation and Professor in the Department of Bioethics, Humanism, and Policy at
Roseman University College of Medicine. A philosopher, bioethicist, and internationally
recognized educational leader, Dr. Gillis shares her unique path through philosophy, bioethics,
and medical education. She discusses her role in leading the Office of Faculty Affairs &
Learning Innovation (OFALI), a transdisciplinary team focused on empowering faculty through
scholarly development, inclusive leadership, and equity-centered support.
Dr. Gillis talks about her passion for professionalism, arts in medicine, and ethical reasoning,

Joe sits down with Julpohng “JP” Vilai, MD, Pediatrics Clerkship Director and
Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Roseman
University College of Medicine to talk about his journey into medicine and his
deep commitment to community health in his hometown of Las Vegas. As Vice
President of the Nevada Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a
member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, Dr. Vilai shares how value-based
care, humanism, and mentorship shape his work. He discusses his
leadership role at Roseman Medical Group, providing care to the underserved
youth at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center, and his passion for
adolescent, LGBTQIA+, and behavioral health. They also discuss the

of expertise that she generously shares with those around her. Her ability to nurture talent and
foster growth within the Girl Scouts community is unparalleled, inspiring girls and adult
volunteers alike to strive for excellence and unleash their full potential. Before her tenure with
GSSNV, Trueba played a pivotal role in shaping experiential environments within the hospitality,
restaurant, and entertainment sectors as Managing Principal, for an award- winning international
hospitality design firm, TAL Studio and development executive with Forte Specialty Contractors.
As a second-generation design professional, Trueba began her journey at Walt Disney
Imagineering, where she left an indelible mark over a decade by leading iconic projects within the
Walt Disney World Theme Parks and Resorts portfolio. Hailing from Wichita, Kansas, Trueba
earned her degree in Interior Architecture from Kansas State University, where she continues to
be recognized for her outstanding contributions, receiving the Honoree Alumni Award. Actively
engaged in professional networks, she has been a member of the Young President’s Organization
for over a decade, demonstrating her commitment to leadership and mentorship. Trueba's
dedication to service extends beyond her professional endeavors, as evidenced by her
longstanding involvement on various boards, committees and with the Girl Scouts. As a lifetime
member and alumna, she draws upon her formative experiences with the organization to drive
positive change and empowerment for young women. Her commitment to leaving a lasting
legacy of empowerment and opportunity is reflected in her tireless efforts to uplift communities
and create a more equitable and inclusive society for future women. She understands the power
of unity and collaboration in effecting meaningful change and actively seeks out opportunities to
amplify voices that are often marginalized or overlooked. Under Trueba's visionary leadership,
GSSNV reached new heights, marked by the historic receipt of the largest single private property
gift in Girl Scouts of the USA history. The generous donation of 70 acres of property and land from
the Charles and Phyllis M. Frias Charitable Trust, valued at nearly $9 million, enabled GSSNV to
restore local overnight camp opportunities, an essential element of the Girl Scout Leadership
Experience. Trueba's ability to inspire philanthropy and uplift communities creates an enduring
legacy of empowerment and opportunity for generations to come.
Dr. Renee Coffman is president and co-founder of the Nevada College of Pharmacy, now Roseman University of Health Sciences. She previously served as the University’s Executive Vice President for Quality Assurance and Intercampus Consistency and the Dean of its College of Pharmacy. Before establishing Roseman University, Dr. Coffman became a founding member of the faculty at Western University of Health Sciences, where she also held the position of Facilitative Officer for Student Services. While at Western, Dr. Coffman and four colleagues received Honorable Mention for the AACP Innovations in Teaching Awards. A licensed pharmacist in the state of Nevada, Dr. Coffman earned a Pharmacy degree from OhioNorthern University in 1987 and, following graduation, worked as a pharmacist in her hometown of Bucyrus, Ohio and in Piqua, Ohio. In 1995, Dr. Coffman earned a doctoral degree in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University, where she received the Kienle Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Jenkins-Knevel Award for Outstanding Graduate Research, and was awarded an AAPE-AFPE Association Fellowship in Pharmaceutical Sciences.Dr. Coffman is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Pharmaceutical Association, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, theAmerican Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the International Federation of Pharmacy, as well as Phi Kappa Phi and Rho Chi Honor Societies and the Phi Lambda Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society. Dr. Coffman has worked to support pharmacy, education, and improved health care through herwork with the Southern Nevada Medical Industry Coalition, iDO (Improving Diabetes and Obesity inSouthern Nevada), the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Medication Error Discussion Group, and theNevada State Board of Pharmacy Committee on Standards for Approval of Pharmacy Technician Training Programs.
Additionally, Dr. Coffman was instrumental in successful legislative efforts permitting pharmacists to perform finger-stick blood glucose testing. In recognition of her community service in Southern Nevada, in 2008, she received the “Who’s Who in Healthcare” Award and the “Women of Distinction” Award, both sponsored by In Business Las Vegas, now VEGAS INC. In 2017, the publication recognized Dr. Coffman as one of 12 “Women to Watch” in business. In 2012, she was named a “Distinguished Alumnus” by Ohio Northern University and in 2021 was named a “Distinguished Alumnus” by Purdue University.
Wendell P Williams was born in Saint Joseph Louisiana and received both his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Southern University at Baton Rouge LouisianaAfter locating to Las Vegas Nevada, he worked as a classroom teacher and community organizer. His work in education earned him the Crystal Apple Award and among other things the highest award from the National Education Association as well as the MaryMcCloud Bethune Award from the NAACPIn 1987 he was elected to the Nevada Legislature becoming the first teacher in Nevada history to serve in that body. In his freshman term he introduced and passed two paid state holidays, FAMILY DAY and the Dr Martin Luther King state Holiday. Among dozens of countless bills, he authored legislation to rebuild all schools in Las Vegas that were built before 1970.
During his 18 years in the Nevada legislature, he served as chairman of theEducation Committee and Judiciary Committee. He later became the first AfricanAmerican to serve as Speaker of the House.His work in the community includes membership in the Masons, the Order of the Elks theOmega Psi Phi Fraternity among a few. He was a columnist for the Las Vegas SentinelVoice Newspaper and was the founder of Power 88 Radio’s first community affairs talkshow.His community work resulted in the Clark County School District in 2002 opening the first2 story elementary school in the state in his honor “Wendell Phillips Williams ElementarySchool” in his honor. And in 2004 the City of Las Vegas dedicated Wendell Williams Way anew street in his honor. And among his other awards in 2025 President Joseph Biden presented him with the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR SERVICE.1n December of 1981, Williams founded the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Committee of LasVegas as well as the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Birthday Parade. Starting with just 13 Entries the Parade has grown to what is considered the largest King Parade in America. And the celebration spans over 10 days with a mart summit that attracts up to 1000 students and the scholarship gala has helped countless students attain higher education over 40 years.The organization was successful among other things changing the former Highland Blvd to what’s now Martin Luther King Blvd. and the opening of Martin Luther ElementarySchool.However, Mr. Williams feels that his greatest achievement in life in his life was convincing former Jet Magazine Beauty of the Week, Zelda Pur ear to become Mrs. Wendell P Williams.
About our guest … Leon Ravin, MD is currently serving in the position of
Statewide Psychiatric Medical Director for the Division of Public and Behavioral
Health, DHHS, State of Nevada. In addition to Dr. Raven being a board-certified
general adult and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Raven also serves as a member of the
Statewide School Safety Task Force for the State of Nevada and a member of
the Executive Committee of the Medical Directors Council of the National
Association of State Mental Health Program Directors. Dr. Ravin served for four
years as a member of the LAI work group for SMI Adviser, an APA and SAMHSA
initiative that offers researched, vetted and verified guidance to the best
resources on SMI. Since 2010 Dr. Ravin has been a member of the Conference
Committee for the Annual National Psychopharmacology Update, the largest
psychopharmacology conference in the United States. Additionally, since 2013
Dr. Ravin has been one for the lead trainers for the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
training for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

About our guest … Alex De Castroverde is a Las Vegas personal injury attorney and the owner of De Castroverde Accident & Injury Lawyers along with his brother, Orlando. Their father, Waldo De Castroverde, was born in Havana, Cuba, and was a paratrooper in the Bay of Pigs invasion. Waldo moved to Reno, Nevada, in 1978, along with his wife Vivian De Castroverde (also born in Cuba) and their four children. After attending law school at night—while he dealt blackjack during the day—Waldo became one of the first attorneys in Nevada to open a law office with the focus of representing the Hispanic Community. In 2005, De Castroverde Accident & Injury Lawyers was formed as a branch of the Law Office of Waldo De Castroverde. The firm has grown from three attorneys to over 20 attorneys and a total team of over 100 employees. The firm now has offices in Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, Reno, Oakland, CA and plans on expanding across the United Sates. The firm concentrates on personal injury, immigration, and criminal defense. In 1995, Mr. De Castroverde received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno. He received his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University in 1999. Mr. De Castroverde is active in the Southern Nevada community, currently serving on the Board of Directors for Cristo Rey St. Viator Las Vegas College Preparatory and the Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities. About our guest … Dr. Lasky joined the Cure the Kids Foundation in 2017. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago and did his pediatric residency at the University of Chicago. He completed his Pediatric Hematology Oncology fellowship at UCLA in 2006 and was director of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program at UCLA until 2009 when he moved to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA, and was named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. While there, Dr. Lasky became involved with a number of clinical trials for patients with bleeding disorders (including hemophilia and von Willebrand disease) as well as sickle cell anemia. While continuing to have research interests in pediatric brain tumors and immunology, he also is interested in running and developing clinical trials for patients with bleeding disorders and sickle cell anemia. Dr. Lasky is a member of several professional societies including the Children’s Oncology Group, Society for Neuro-Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He enjoys watching sports, reading, music, and outdoor activities with his family. In September of 2022, Dr. Lasky is now the Medical Director at Cure 4 The Kids (C4K).

Overseeing 25 branches run by 600+ employees with a collection of 3.2 million items. About our guest … Dr.Matthew Thacker is the Program Director for the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Henderson, Nevada. After earning his bachelor's degree in Biology with a concentration in Integrative Physiology from UNLV, he attended UNLV’s School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 2018. After graduating from dental school, Dr.Thacker served in the U.S. Navy as a Fleet Marine Force dental officer for 4 years aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, California. He continues to serve the community as a volunteer dentist for the Special Olympics, Give Kids a Smile, UNLV’s Sgt Ferrin Memorial Veteran’s Clinic, Adopt-a-Vet, Project Homeless, and Roseman University’s Empower. He is passionate about providing a broad scope of evidence-based dental care to the Las Vegas Valley community and is dedicated to training the next generation of dentists to be skilled, compassionate, and service-based healthcare providers.
Dr.Thacker is a member of the American Dental Education Association, Nevada Dental Association, Southern Nevada Dental Society, and is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr.Thacker and his wife, Dr.Angelica Jane Bustos-Thacker are natives to Las Vegas and currently live in Summerlin with their two dogs, Puka and Boba. On his free time, Dr.Thacker enjoys playing ice hockey, graphic design, computer coding, traveling, and is an avid woodworker.

About our guest … Dr. DeRionne Pollard is the current president of Nevada State University (NSU). She was appointed by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents in April to lead NSU, a four-year public comprehensive institution. Dr. Pollard began her tenure at NSU on Aug. 16, 2021. Dr. Pollard is the first Black female president of any NSHE institution. She has held previous roles at the College of Lake County and served as president of both Montgomery College and Las Positas College.
Dr. Pollard is deeply connected to her community. Dr. Pollard was named one of Washington’s 100 Most Powerful Women by Washingtonian Magazine, won a 2017 Academic Leadership Award from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and a Visionary Award from the Washington Area Women’s Foundation. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s of arts in English from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies in higher education from Loyola University Chicago.

About our guest … Malachi Williams is from Phoenix, Arizona. He moved to Las Vegas 13 years ago. He has been married for 16 years and is a father of 6. Malachi is a muralist and has 20+plus years of experience as an artist. He has pieces in Atlanta, California, Arizona, North Las Vegas, and Las Vegas. Malachi is also an art instructor and does customized shoes. Malachi recently won a spool decorating contest during the ‘Art U Ok’ hosted by First Friday with the Downtown Las Vegas. His piece is titled CAREousel “Life is full of ups and downs, you just have to enjoy the ride.” He was then the featured artist at First Friday for the month of April 2023 where he did a community piece. Malachi believes that art brings the community together. He is now a resident artist at First Friday where he will be working on art pieces with the community. Malachi is currently practicing visual arts at Strokes, LLC a company that he started with his wife in 2018.
”I believe art has a way of saying what can’t be spoken with words, so I use my gift to spread hope to whoever my work is placed. I am most pleased when I see the younger generation gravitate towards creativity, and making it their own. I hope one day my children do the same, fall in love with art, and take it to a new platform.”
Malachi hopes to one day have murals all across the United States. Malachi likes to inspire and evoke hope through his art pieces.
About our guest … Julia Lazareck is the co-founder and president of Prison Families Alliance, Inc. (PFA). Julia got involved in Prison Families Alliance while her brother was incarcerated. Many families of incarcerated individuals struggle with keeping the family together. PFA provides multiple diverse support systems and communication platforms in order to keep the family together through the criminal justice process, thus safer communities and minimizing recidivism. After her brother passed while in prison Julia wrote a book and started a podcast called “Prison: The Hidden Sentence.” Her goal is to raise awareness and to create a more compassionate society about the effects of incarceration on families and children. Prison Families Alliance used to be called Friends and Families of Incarcerated Persons before they changed the name in 2021. Julia has lived in Las Vegas for 25 years and has been married to Les for 16 years. She has two dogs: Sage and Sierra.

About our guest … Jermareon Williams is the government affairs manager for the state of Nevada at Western Resource Advocates
(WRA). He works with WRA’s program staff to advance innovative legislative and administrative policy solutions critical to addressing
the state’s most pressing conservation challenges. As the first person to hold this position in Nevada, Williams is eager to get creative
and bring forward policy that will protect local communities.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Williams has a deep love for his community and the entire state. Having grown up in areas where there
was heavy pollution, working to ensure others have clean air to breathe makes his work at WRA personal. During his senior year of
college, Williams secured an internship with Senator Harry Reid, where he witnessed firsthand the collective action required in moving
forward efforts to protect our planet.
Senator Reid’s office then brought Williams on board after graduation where he served as the public lands and clean energy liaison and
worked with conservation organizations to protect public lands in Nevada, including Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument
and Gold Butte National Monument. And that was just the start of his service as a staffer in the U.S. Senate.
Prior to joining WRA, Williams was also the small business manager for U.S Senator Jacky Rosen where he helped small business
owners locate funding for their businesses and acted as a liaison for Nevada’s Native American, African American, and tech
communities. After nearly a decade working in the Senate, Williams wanted to dedicate his professional focus to environmental work.
He wanted to wake up every day knowing that he played a part in saving the world. He sees this as an opportunity to bring progress for
environmental justice for everyone – regardless of race, income, or background. Being part of WRA, he gets to actualize this dream by
working with a team of experts committed to improving air quality and protecting the land, water, and wildlife in our Western states.
Williams feels blessed to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful public and open spaces in Southern Nevada, including Red Rock
Canyon, Sloan Canyon, and Mount Charleston. His appreciation for these lands and his determination to ensure equitable access to all
communities fuels his desire to work in this space. Beyond working to protect public lands, Williams is also looking forward to
electrifying transportation and safeguarding Nevada’s most precious freshwater resources.
Williams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Film from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Based in Las Vegas,
Williams enjoys hanging out with his family and watching movies in his free time. He is also deeply passionate about music.

While working at Fitzgerald Casino in the Engineering
Department a co-worker told her about a Union Apprenticeship Training
Program with the Plumbers, Pipefitters & HVAC UA Local Union 525. She
applied and after five years of working as an Apprentice while taking care of
her family Evelyn finally made history as Nevada’s first licensed Black female
plumber, letting Women know that it does not matter how hard your life is or
was, you can still make something of your life. She has leveraged her
experience to help all women through her “Nevada Women in Trades”
organization, a non-profit organization formed specifically to increase the
number of Women in trades.

About our guest ... Dr. Michael Green is an associate professor at UNLV and
teaches history courses on nineteenth-century America and on Nevada and Las
Vegas, for the history department and the Honors College. He earned his B.A.
and M.A. at UNLV and his Ph.D. at Columbia University.
He has written and published a couple books on the Civil War era. Dr. Green is
now working on writing a history of the Great Basin in the twentieth century for
the University of Arizona Press and a history of organized crime in the twentieth
century for Rowman & Littlefield. He also is editing A Companion to Abraham
Lincoln as part of the Wiley-Blackwell series of historiography volumes.
He edits the Wilbur S. Shepperson Series on Nevada History for the University of
Nevada Press and is a member of the editorial board for the press. He is a
member of the board of directors for The Mob Museum. He is the director of
Preserve Nevada and serves as executive director of the Pacific Coast Branch of
the American Historical Association.
Green is also active in writing and speaking in the community. He writes
"Nevada Yesterdays" for Nevada Humanities and KNPR, and a column for the
quarterly R-J Sunday magazine.

About our guest … Kelly Thomas-Boyers is the co-founder and board president
of Adam's Place. Adam’s Place is a Grief Center for Children and Families was
established in memory of Adam Gregory Thomas, Kelly’s son. Adam was a 21-
year-old college senior at the University of Nevada, Reno when he sustained
life-ending injuries from a car crash in Reno, Nevada in March of 2007.
Kelly returned to the University of Nevada, Reno in May 2007 in support of
memorial activities and the Adam Thomas Legislative Intern Scholarship. It was
there that she found a brochure for the Solace Tree Program, a grieving support
center for children, teens and adults in Reno. The idea of a place for her younger
son, Alec, to go and work through his grief made a great impact on her. Kelly set
out to find a similar program in Las Vegas upon her return, but couldn’t find one.
After intensive research, guidance from the executive director, Emilio Parga, of
Solace Tree in Reno, and many talks with social workers, doctors, nurses and
school counselors, Adam’s Place opened its doors in 2010 and has been serving
the Southern Nevada community ever since.
She brings over 25 years of business and healthcare experience to the board.
Her unwavering passion for Adam's Place is obvious in her work in the
community.

Dr. Karin Esposito is Professor and Senior Executive Dean
for Academic and Student Affairs at Roseman University College of Medicine
(RUCOM). She is the Chief Academic Officer for the medical school and will serve as
the faculty lead for accreditation. She has held previous roles in curriculum, advising,
and student affairs and also has experience as a residency program director. Dr.
Esposito received her PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as her MD,
from the University of Miami, and she completed her residency training in psychiatry
at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. Her research interests have spanned
basic and clinical research, education research, and hospital-based quality
improvement research at various times in her career.
Prior to coming to Roseman, Dr. Esposito held roles at Florida International University
Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine as Executive Associate Dean for Student
Affairs, Associate Dean for Curriculum and Medical Education and as Associate Dean
for Academic Affairs and for Women in Medicine and Science. Dr. Esposito was also

Dr. Jamie Fairclough serves as Associate Dean, Professor,
and Director of the Data Science & Analytics Unit at Roseman University College
of Medicine (RUCOM). As a data leader, Dr. Fairclough oversees the data
infrastructure and analytics strategy plans and leads current cloud
adoption/transformation efforts in the medical school. Before coming to
RUCOM, Dr. Fairclough held faculty appointments at Florida International
University (Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine), Florida State University
(College of Medicine), and Palm Beach Atlantic University (Gregory School of
Pharmacy). She also worked in government operations, managing a statewide
risk surveillance system for the Florida Department of Health (Bureau of
Epidemiology) in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
(CDC). Dr. Fairclough earned her BS, MPH, and MS degrees from the University of
Florida and her PhD from Florida State University. She subsequently completed
postdoctoral fellowship training in Behavioral Medicine Research at Duke
University Medical Center, as well as postgraduate/executive training in medical
statistics at Stanford University; data science, AI, and machine learning at the
University of Texas at Austin; data engineering at the University of Chicago; and
Healthcare AI at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Fairclough holds a secondary
appointment as Adjunct Professor of Data Science at Noorda College of
Osteopathic Medicine and was recently selected as an NWCCU | SACSCOC

About our Guest … Nancy Good was born in Texas. She has lived all over the United States and loves traveling. Her travels have greatly influenced her art and other creative pursuits. Nancy received her undergraduate degree at Eureka College in Illinois. She studied classical voice, creative writing, and art. She has pursued many creative passions over the years. In May 2018, she opened a fine art gallery in Las Vegas called CORE Contemporary. The gallery’s mission is to provide exhibition opportunities for other artists and educational opportunities for the community. The gallery has worked with over 300 artists since its opening. Nancy is known for her mural-sized, interactive art pieces. Her creativity engages all the senses. Nancy is passionate about creating art that compels dialogue and human connection. About our guest…Juan Muniz was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and raised in San Diego, California. He received an Associate’s in animation at Collin’s College and later went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Art in Graphic Design at the Art Institute in Las Vegas. His Felipe bunny art has been showcased in Art galleries, murals, commercial art, and illustrations. Juan was diagnosed with anxiety and depression and has always found it easier to express his thoughts and feelings through art. Juan is passionate about raising awareness to mental health and normalizing that conversation. He does not want to merely talk about mental health, but do something about it. Juan has worked with various healthcare entities and schools to share his message and raise awareness. He serves on the board of directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southern Nevada. Juan’s aspiration is that through his art and new book, I am not ok, that children and families will start having conversations about mental health. About our guest…PHYLLIS A. JAMES is a Harvard-educated lawyer and a champion for diversity and inclusion, who has been a trailblazer throughout her career. She has worked in the private sector, where she was the first African American to achieve partnership as well as in corporate law. She served as Chief Lawyer for the City of Detroit ( Corporation/General Counsel) for two terms. She then moved on to being both lead inside litigation counsel and Chief Diversity & Inclusion (“CDI”)/CSR Officer for more than a decade at MGM Resorts International – where for many years she was the highest-ranking African American gaming industry executive on the Las Vegas Strip. As MGM’s CDI/CSR Officer she focused on building 21st century inclusive and responsible cultures, leadership practices and operational systems. After a distinguished private-sector career, Phyllis founded the 501(c)(3) non-profit Foundation for Women’s Leadership & Empowerment (FWLE) (with MGM support) in 2019, where she is dedicated to educating women in the core competencies for leadership roles across society. About our guest … Dr. Farzad Kamyar is the Director of Collaborative Care at the High-Risk Pregnancy Center in Las Vegas. He helped create a program focused on providing care for pregnant women struggling with substance use disorders called the Maternal Opioid Treatment Health Education and Recovery or M.O.T.H.E.R Program. Within the program, Dr. Kamyar works as a psychiatrist. Part of his care is eliminating some of the stigmas around opioid use disorders and providing women with nonjudgmental, compassionate, and empathetic care. In his new role at Roseman University of Health Sciences, Dr. Kamyar works with EMPOWERED a program that works with pregnant women with opioid abuse. He was recognized in 2020 as a Southern Nevada Healthcare Hero.
Quintella Winbush was recently appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee for a Resilient Nevada. The committee was formed in 2021 and is responsible for establishing a statewide plan to ensure the funds coming from the opioid litigation areas allocated to support Nevada communities. Quinnie was appointed to the Committee because she represents a non-profit, community-oriented organization that specializes in peer-led covert from substance abuse disorder.

About our guest … Claytee White is the director of the Oral History Research Center at UNLV Libraries. She has worked for more than 20 years to chronicle the history of Las Vegas. Her projects have included histories of the early healthcare in the city, the John S Park Neighborhood, musicians who have performed with well-known greats in entertainment and more. She has worked on an extensive project through the Las Vegas Black Historical Society to gather the history of the Las Vegas black community. About our guest .. Kasina Douglass-Boone is a dedicated mother of six children, wife, former Nevada Legislator, and community advocate who is focused on family and civic engagement by strategizing and developing programs to bridge the gap between home,
school, life and the community for adolescents. Kasina is also a dedicated member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
In 2011 Kasina launched her non-profit TULIPS- (Teaching, Uniting Ladies to Inspire Positive Success); she assists young ladies in crucial social skills such as how to dress, speak, and behave. This organization also empowers young ladies to take control of their future and to be an example for others. Through this organization and her other community endeavors Kasina has been the recipient of several community awards. Kasina has been steady and philanthropic throughout the community. She assists each year in the community with back-to-school fairs, Teen Town Halls, and Social Justice Events.
For the past 22 years Kasina has been employed with Clark County District working in several support staff positions. In 2013 Kasina transitioned into the classroom which aided her in truly seeking after her true passion of supporting and being the voice for our youth and their subsequent success. In 2016 Kasina switched her career field to a Social Worker Mental Health Specialist still continuing her work in helping the students at Peterson Academic Center where her passion for changes fuels the outcomes for her students and their families by eliminating barriers to success at all cost.
On July 8, 2020 Kasina was sworn in as the Assembly woman for District 17 where she finished out the term of her mentor Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson. Kasina is currently a key leader at Ty’s Place Safe Space for Teens in memory of her loving mentor.
About our guest .. Craig Rosen serves as the Community Engagement and Professional Development Administrator in the Desert Research Institute (DRI) Office of Education. He has been with DRI for nearly 9 years working to innovate and improve STEM Education throughout Nevada. He was the founding director for the Nevada STEAM Conference and has worked on projects funded by NASA, local utility companies, TESLA, and Federal and State grants. Prior to that he has served as Director of the Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival, worked as a national consultant
in informal education, and was Director for religious schools in CA and NV. Mr. Rosen sits on numerous boards and committees, has presented at Statewide and National Conferences, and received many awards for his work in STEM Education. Craig holds a B.A. in Child Development and Psychology from CSUN and an M.A. in Urban Leadership from UNLV.

About our guest .. Police Captain with the Las Vegas Metropolitan
Police Department. He began his career with the Las Vegas Police
Metropolitan Police Department as a Corrections Officer in 2000.
He is a native of Lake Charles, LA., graduating from LaGrange High
School, then served his country for twelve years in the United
States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Carlos
graduated from Columbia Southern University with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Criminal Justice. In February of 2020, Carlos was
promoted to Captain and entrusted with commanding all aspects
of Bolden Area Command. Bolden Area Command encompasses
approximately 17 square miles in and around the historic West
Side of Las Vegas. The area command places a considerable
interest in strengthening its relationship with the community and
conducts over 100 community events each year.

About our guest .. Ally Haynes-Hamblen oversees the city’s
performing, visual and public art programs and facilities, and the
Las Vegas Arts Commission. Previously, Haynes-Hamblen was
general manager and associate producer for NY-based
Entertainment Events, Inc. She completed the 2015 International
Festival Encounters course with the Royal Conservatoire of
Scotland, the Emerging Leadership Institute of the Association of
Performing Arts Professionals and the California Presenters
Mentorship Program, and was a member of the Expedia Corporate
Travel Advisory Board. In 2013, Haynes-Hamblen received the
Mentoring Award from the Western Arts Alliance. Haynes-Hamblen
is a member of the 2nd cohort of the Association of Performing
Arts Professionals’ Leadership Fellows Program (2016-2018).

About our guest .. A Las Vegas native, Iverson is a recovering methamphetamine addict. His addiction led to an array of family and personal problems ultimately leading to the local drug court program in 2006. Upon graduation, Iverson’s recovery advanced through embracing his passion for truly helping others. After volunteering at a treatment center and working with foundations focused on prevention and awareness, he and a partner started a sober living facility called Sober Living Las Vegas. Eventually, Iverson and Buckley founded Freedom House with the generous aide of an anonymous donor.

David Marlon is the co-founder and chairman of Vegas Stronger, a Las Vegas non-profit committed to helping the most under-served in our community by addressing mental health, substance use disorders and getting back to a healthy productive life. The Vegas Stronger team joined CrossRoads in January of 2020 to help address the mismanagement of the company and bring back the operation from near bankruptcy. Over the years, he has formed several non-profit organizations, including the Care Coalition, a Drug Free Communities Act non-profit, with the goal of combating substance abuse by providing education and awareness on addictive behavior, preventative methods, and the economic, physical, and social consequences of substance abuse
