The hard bump on my head, the water, the lack of oxygen, and the climb were exhausting. Everything turned black again. I was out. Really out.
I walked around the small cluster of buildings. All the windows had been blocked shut permanently with concrete. There was only one doorway, and it had no door. Still cold, I decided to take a look inside.
The wind, the waves, and the storm had exhausted my strength. I cuddled up next to the structure hoping for shelter against the storm. I was cold, wet, and in the dark. I thought I’d never get to sleep, but I did.
I woke in my own bed, trying to remember the details of my dream and wondering how to continue.
I wonder what I’ll dream tonight and if the building on the rock will still be there when, and if, I return.
There will always be unexpected surprises but I will always count on the love of my pack and our Master, no matter what.
Tomorrow we'll pick up where we left of and continue from Heb 11:17-19. We're picking our way through this section very slowly and carefully to dig out all the backstories. I'm enjoying the examples and taking notes. The stories are still relevant. Tomorrow the stories and my story continue. Send me a Telegram if you want the details.
Well, I thank God it's Friday. It was a good day to be alive. It would've been a good day to die, too. It's all good as long as I continue to trust and believe in my good God.
I got to see most of our stuff today as I tossed some and kept some. After a lifetime together of collecting stuff, now we’re getting rid of stuff. There’s a time for everything, and this is our time to start packing lighter to travel lighter. Our next move may be to a small wooden box, or even a cardboard box, but we won’t need any of this stuff where we’re going.
If I could put time in a bottle, I wouldn’t. But I would create a beginning and an ending for bookends to one week of seven days in eternity. Then we would continue, as we always have, always do, and always will. Time is just so finite.
Now that I'm on this side of the wall, I'm looking back over the top and through the linked chain at the souls on the other side who would like to be where we are. Poor souls. They still use pen and paper. Some even use pencils and erasers instead of taps and backspaces. What a wonderful life this is!
Today, for me, it was a series of decisions to do the right thing. It won’t help me make friends, get rich, live longer, or have fewer problems, but I’m focusing beyond here and now to there and then. I haven’t always fought the good fight or run the good race, but I am now. I’m focusing on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of my faith. It’s not automatic. I had to decide today and if I wake up again tomorrow, I’ll get to decide again how to use my freedom to thrive in Babylon.
Welcome to my 3-way link. If you made it to the end, I congratulate you. Extract the information you need to make your move. I’ll keep transmitting with or without likes, acknowledgements, comments, or applause. I want to take you to My Leader. You won’t be sorry.
The faith of our spiritual ancestors still speaks. We learn from their faith. Abel, Enoch, and Noah were imperfect humans like us who walked with God and made a difference in the world when they lived.
Nowadays the world looks and feels like it must’ve looked to God back in Noah’s days just before He swept life from the face of the earth. Now, more than ever, is a good time to seek God’s favor and connect to Him through His Son. He has revealed His Plan. It’s up to us whether or not we receive and believe what He’s revealed.
Stay tuned. Abraham’s up next? Here’s something to think about:
How much are willing to sacrifice to obey God?
He smiled. I waved. He died. I lived. I lived to be the old man in the rocking chair, and I’m grinning a big, semi-toothless grin. I look forward to seeing the old man again. I’m sure neither of us will ever be old again.
In the meantime, I Thank God I can still rock my own chair and even push it around. The adventure continues.
It’s good to know that in a world of clouds and bunkers that even if I must live in a bunker for now I can still compute and think in the clouds and beyond, for now, for a while longer. And even now, since the world began, no ear has heard, no eye has seen, and no mind has imagined what a God like Him, who works for those who wait for Him, has prepared for them.
Would you like to read next time instead of listening. You can read this and others here. You're welcome.
What a day that first day! I can’t imagine what will happen before the week ends, but I’m really looking forward to a day of rest.
In the meantime, it’s just Him, you, and me. We never stop, but sometimes we have to quit. Life’s merry-go-round has been exciting, but it’s no match for what comes next.
I stepped off this morning, but I’m stepping back on now, if only for one more round.
Tired of listening. You can read this and others here. You're welcome.
In the meantime, I’m on His trail and I hope my money trail supports my claim. If you’re looking for a good investment, I believe investing in others is the best. Besides, God doesn’t want or need our money. He wants our loving, obedient hearts.
Finally, I’m learning to walk for the third time. Walking of the third kind is not new. It’s an ancient skill of faith and obedience that produces amazing results. I’m finally joining the ranks of imperfect heroes like Abel, Enoch, Noah, and a long line of spiritual ancestors who learned to walk the walk of the third kind. One step at a time.
Today we rested. Training will continue tomorrow, one step at at time.
I’m still learning how to pray, but some of my best prayers were those I prayed from inside a helmet. My first prayers were copies of other people’s prayers. Many teach children to repeat the words of others like training wheels on their spiritual bicycles until they get the hang of it. That’s the way it was for me.
But my prayers got more serious when I started riding motorcycles as a boy.
When I’d get in a spot of self-inflicted trouble on the trail, I used to pray. It must’ve worked. I’m still here, but as my body grew and my appetite for speed and adrenaline increased, so did my need for prayer.
About that time, I discovered the comfort, safety, and convenience of full-face helmets with visors. My helmet became my personal war room for communicating with my God. We talked for hours and hours as I rode back and forth across North America.
But then I was given a new helmet. They called it a steel pot. It was made of steel, painted with drab olive green paint and worked best when used with a helmet liner and adjustable band. It wasn’t bullet-proof, waterproof, and its open-face design didn’t provide the comfort or the convenience of my full-face motorcycle helmets. But, I didn’t get to choose the color or the design. It was standard issue.
I didn’t get to choose my fights either. Soldiers fight. Others decide who, when, and why they fight. Some of my best prayers originated within my steel pot (with and without the helmet liner) as I prayed to survive, fight with honor, defend my comrades, and live one more day.
It must’ve worked. I’m still here, but as my body grows older and my appetite for speed and adrenaline decrease, my need for prayer continues to increase. Thank God I no longer wear a steel pot on my head. Does any military still use those old helmets?
Today I put on my full-face helmet, lowered the visor, lowered the sun shade, started my motorcycle, and rode down the road one more time.
Wise riders always check their equipment, wear the right protective gear, and prepare as if their life depended on it, because it might. Every ride could be the last.
If you saw an overweight elderly man on a small delivery-style motorcycle wobbling down the Panamerican Highway this morning, thanks for not running over me. I was doing the best I could, and it felt great. I was praying all the way.
Even better than the wind, the sound, the sights, and the smells, I prayed like my life depended on it from inside my helmet one more time. It must’ve worked; I’m still here.
This old soldier served on land, at sea, and in the air. I prayed. It must’ve worked. And since it worked so well for so long, I pray more and more. My warfare now goes beyond sea, air, and land into a spiritual dimension I could’ve never imagined as a young man. I was too strong, too independent, and too much like myself.
My battles are tougher than they were. They never get easier, but we get better. Now I’m more like The One I follow, completely dependent on Him, and I’m too crippled and weak to deceive myself or anyone else. Now, finally, after all these years of helmet prayers, I’m finally in shape for Him to use me for the really big fights using His weapons. My enemy is not who I thought he was.
My Lord’s soldiers work, serve, sweat, bleed, sacrifice, and fight. He IS The One who decides who, what, where, when, why, and how I fight.
No complaints. I recommend serving in the Lord’s army. The pay is out of this world, the care is unmatched, retirement is the best, and the life insurance is prepaid. The helmets are the best!
Maybe I’ll retire my truck and turn it into an office when the authorities no longer want either of us on their roads. I can already imagine myself in the cab of the truck, parked behind the house, talking to Jesus. It’ll beat the traffic!
I believe I’m gonna enjoy being a kid again. I also enjoy our talks, even if I seem to do all the transmitting. Have you ever thought about how easy it is to share so much with strangers we never expect to cross paths with again?
It reminds me of a long conversation I had with a soul from Heathrow to JFK one night, or the train trip from Penn Station to Little Rock, Arkansas. But, it’s time to get some sleep. I’ll try not to rest my head on your shoulder or snore. I remember how awkward that used to be on planes, trains, and buses.
Thanks for listening, reading, or both. Maybe we can do this again, if one of us doesn’t disembark first. Thanks for existing.
I’m shooting for 7, maybe 8, definitely pre-adolescent, because that was almost as uncomfortable as being a senior. Let’s see how this works. But even if I could choose, I’d still choose an old body with a new mind and spirit over a young body with an old mind and dead spirit. How ‘bout you?
If only we knew how fragile life is. If only we knew the acquaintances, the encounters, the friendships, and the loves we experience never had to end. If only we could believe Him and love with His love as we wait for our faith to become sight. If only we could would become of course we can!
Now, about that assisted living. As my neighbors to the north prepare to celebrate their day of Independence, I remember that I am completely dependent on my God for everything, all the time, wherever I go, whatever I do. Whenever I forget, something happens to remind me that assisted living isn’t just for us old, retired souls. We’re not broken, not broken down, just broken in. We welcome the assistance.

My only hope, my only anchor, my only safe port is with the One who walks on water like dry ground, strolls through time like it was His garden, and IS concerned about His creation. Who or what else is there to hope in or hope for? Are ya sure?

Doesn’t it feel like we’re reaching our boiling point? When it comes to hot water, potatoes are good, eggs are better, and coffee beans are the best. Today I chose to be like coffee beans instead of becoming too soft like a potato or too hard like an egg. I believe there’s more hot water to come.
... Just as I was getting used to the experience and getting ready to stay, someone (or something) jolted me awake and back into this place. I imagined hearing their voices say ‘he’s back… we have a heartbeat again’. Maybe I didn’t imagine it. One thing’s for sure: I’m back. But like a gold miner who found the mother lode, I felt like I’d discovered something valuable, something hidden, and something to search for again the next chance I get. Who wouldn’t? Imagine speaking with real, living specimens from the human race!
I’d say no one would believe me, but I’ve learned to never say never.
If a change in routine is good, then we had our share of goodness today. Nothing about today was routine but the rising of the sun and its decline. There are no guarantees with regard to the rising and setting of the sun either. So thank God for something old and something new. In the end only He will remain the same.
Please, forgive me. Forgive me in advance, please. I’ve heard writers write anywhere on almost anything. Notebooks help, but napkins work, too. Whatever’s handy, don’t ya think?
Please, forgive me. Forgive me in advance, please. I know a podcaster who records anywhere using almost anything. Studios are nice, but they don’t fit in my pocket and I can’t wear ‘em on my wrist, so whatever’s handy, don’t ya agree?
As for starting early, I’m thankful. Finishing early feels good today!
How can we be so connected and so disconnected at the same time? And about time, it’s about time. We all have it. We all use it. We can’t beg, borrow, or steal more time. We can’t replay it, stream it, pause it, fast forward it, or even stop it. It just happens, every day, one moment at a time.
It’s time. If you can see it, it won’t last long. If you can’t see it, it’ll last forever. So will our eternal souls, one way or another, in one place or the other, believe it or not! I hope, and I pray, you can believe.
Today has been a day of rearview mirrors. The problem with looking in the rearview mirror too long is that we tend to miss important events happening now and those that are about to happen. I’m not throwing mine out yet, but I’ll keep tryin’ to keep it in perspective, smaller, and farther away. But sometimes the memories in our rearview mirrors appear smaller than they really are.

This afternoon, moments before the sun sinks into the horizon with a hiss and a sizzle, I thank Him for hearing yet another S.O.S. and coming to my rescue. Who knows where I’d end up without His intervention?
Now, in peace, I’ll lie down and sleep, for He alone, my Lord, will keep me safe.

By the way, the weather is still hot, humid, and rainy. I’m guessing that’s why we call it rainy season down here in the south, just north of the equator in a small country divided by a canal.
Day two, the day after day one, is not as monumental as day one. Maybe the happiest and most satisfying days in the life of a blogger or podcaster are the first and the last. Everything between is just so... like life itself. It starts with a yell and ends with a yelp.
Let’s hope and pray for a better day tomorrow without losing the moment. Are you sure you want to do this with me? This could get messy, you know?
I'm back, at least for now. I'm getting into a 40-day rhythm of podcasting, blogging, thinking, learning, showing, telling ...
and I joined Medium, too.
Drum roll, please...

Greetings. I come in peace. I'm not from around here. I am an alien who resides here.
I have been here for a long time, or at least it seems like it. Prone to acquire too much of the wrong things, I need to remind myself I'm not from here and I can't take anything from this place to the next.
