The Almaz Podcast: Recent Episodes

Gabriela Love

When I was a little girl, I wasn't exposed to leadership and success of people of color. Media, the history books, and none of my teachers mirrored myself back to me. The Almaz Podcast is my way of bringing greater exposure to BIPOC models of success, joy, fulfillment, purpose, connection and excellence.

Inspired by my Diaspora experiences. In honor of my ancestors. Named after my grandmother.

A true fashionista, a badass Boss Queen, and maybe even a true perfectionist, Tatiana leaves behind a refreshing whirlwind of thoughts, laughs, and wise words.

She is probably one of the funniest people you will ever meet; colourful, fun, and clearly very kind. She shares so candidly about her experiences in her personal and professional life. She takes us back to her fierce boss girl 5 year old self, and she makes us laugh, oh does she ever!

She has been in the beauty industry for over a decade, runs a beauty studio in Vancouver's Gastown, and teaches at Blanche Macdonald.

I'm personally not big on things like make up and nails, but I tell ya, now that I've come across Tat and her incredible knowledge and embodiment of beauty, I can't help but feel drawn to her studio.

She really creates a safe space for anyone to be themselves which is probably why so many people love her work.

Get ready for an episode that's both serious and lighthearted. And ofcourse, treat yourself to a visit to Tat's Haus.

Our guest today is Lindsay aka Dark Lake Tarot. There are so many beautiful aspects to her, and so many beautiful things to share, that I don't think I can do a proper introduction any justice. Instead, i'll share a little something in her own words. Here goes.

Why Dark Lake Tarot?

  • It's WHO I am - DARK LAKE is just one of the many meanings of my given name, LINDSAY. So essentially, 'Lindsay's Tarot!!'. Pretty neat, right?

  • It's WHAT I see Tarot, Astrology, and Magic in general, as- a truly beautiful, approachable and intimate way to reflect our current situations and paths... and how best we can move forward with new understanding of our Self, ( and NOT as parlor fortune-telling tools or a dark and forbidden art)

  • It's WHEN I personally realized that the Black Girl Magic I sought was REAL and LITERAL. ...and it was within me the whole time, just waiting to be acknowledged and embraced,

  • It's WHERE I instinctively retreat to in my mind- my 'safe space' for all of my own witchy practices and meditations, my inner sanctum to seek clarity and guidance,

  • It's HOW I utilize my learnings about Tarot, Astrology and other magical practices in my daily life,

  • ...and it's WHY I started this service: to share my thoughts, my skillset, and most importantly my journey- with you!

Check her out below. And ofcourse, be sure to share this podcast episode with ALL your friends. :)

Kenya is where founder Ken was brought up. Ken started the business in 2020 with a desire to play a role in providing a healthy solution for hand hygiene amid the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. Karibu Soaps’ intention is to also draw people’s attention to the serious threat that plastic poses to our environment and natural resources, and the company does this through its zero-waste and plastic-free approaches to soapcrafting.

I can personally vouch for these soaps. I have loved every single one that I have tried! They feel good, they smell good, and they are environmentally friendly!

It was such a pleasure hearing all about Karibu's soap crafting process, as well as the myriad of interest Ken has. Join us for another great episode, and of course, don't forget to subscribe, share, leave a review, and get out there and support BIPOC businesses!

And we talk about so many more things. Things that are fun. Things that are difficult.  We laugh, we share, and there's even a bit of singing!
