I realise that I skipped a bit in my talk today and didn't end up referencing either Ezekiel's temple or the final mention of temple in Revelation: "I saw no temple in [the New Jerusalem], for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

It is noted by most commentarors that the shape of the New Jerusalem as given in Revelation is a perfect cube (Rev 21:16). The only other building in Scripture of this shape is the Holy of Holies. The surface of the New Jerusalem was pure gold (Rev 21:18) - also true of the Holy of Holies. There is no need for a "temple building" to house the presence of God because the presence of the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb pervade the entire city. "No structure reared expressly for the worship of God; no particular place where he was adored. It was all temple - nothing but a temple. It was not like Jerusalem, where there was but one house reared expressly for divine worship, and to which the inhabitants repaired to praise God; it was all one great temple reared in honor of his name, and where worship ascended from every part of it." - Albert Barnes
