When we were walking through Harlem, I know you all don't believe this. They had soap box preachers when I was a little girl in Harlem on the corner. And I was drawn to it. And you know what my mother would do? Snatch my hand because she was a backslider because God didn't do it her way. Because her life didn't turn out to be what she thought it should be. And so she stopped believing. So when we're moved like that by an enemy to turn away from God, God said, I'm even married to who? A backslider. Oh God. And that's what she was, a backslider. But she gave her life back to Christ before she passed. But what I'm saying is, so that kept me in a position where I could never... That need wasn't being met in me as a kid. I wanted to hear what they were saying. I remember that so well, and my mother would snatch my hand and she'd start walking faster.

So we have to understand that we are saved by grace through faith. It's unmerited. Grace means it's unmerited. We didn't even deserve it, but we got it because of faith because we believe because the song writer and because we heard them sing, trust the savior to help us. Right. So we heard this, we heard the scripture being sung to us. We heard this scripture being preached to us. We heard it, but we just didn't receive it. So that doesn't mean that wasn't working on our behalf before we got saved, absolutely he was, from childhood. Even if our parents weren't saved we were still hearing it, it was out there.

That's why the old church would take you through the sinner's prayer. I need to first say and recognize, in my own voice, I am a retch under... I need to be saved, Lord. I repent of being a sinner because that's really what I am, and I've come to understand it. When we don't repent, then we don't really have the opportunity to live in the truth of the God that we serve. Where's the truth? Where's that at if I haven't repented and I'm still doing the same old things, thinking the same old way?

The Holy Spirit begins ministering to us before we get saved. Hallelujah. We don't have a clue what he's doing. Most of us said something told me, right? Something told me not to do that. Something told me not to go there. I don't know why I didn't listen, okay? In most cases, it's definitely not us. We think it is. Our consciousness speaking, but our consciousness is so messed up that at some point when we get saved, we know that, that's not what it was. So the Holy Spirit, himself, has been leading and guiding us from the beginning. And what is God's desire, that no man what? Should perish, but all men should come to what? Repentance. And it takes repentance to be saved and to understand your salvation.

Many in high places have fallen and come down, not because anybody knew about it or said anything about it, but because God pulled back the curtain, and said, the Lord said, in the Old Testament, He let them know, "Touch not my anointed, and don't try to do my prophet any harm. Whether you like my profit or not, it's not up to you, but I'll be the one to pull them down." Okay? "I'll be the one. And if I have to send others to do that, I'll do that, but you'll know it was me. I took them down off of that high place that they were on because they forgot."

How I see things. So yeah, all of this is relevant when we start talking about the Holy Spirit, because his job as the spirit of truth is to lead and guide us into all true. And it doesn't work unless we will receive it and then apply it. I can say, "Yeah, that's right, Minister Ballard. Yeah. Yeah, pastor. Hallelujah. Sunday morning. Oh yeah." But I haven't applied the thing yet. I'm in agreement with it, but it's a little hard right now, Lord. I'm in this relationship and this relationship I got going on has afforded me a couple extra dollars. Now I can drive around, pay my mortgage or pay my car note or whatever. And I've been in this relationship, Lord, for a long time. But because he ain't asked me to marry him. Well Lord, that ain't my fault. And Satan is a liar.

And so when I sit in judgment over the younger people in the church as an elder, not judgment because I'm doing what I want to do, and I think that everything you're doing is wrong, but in judgment that come here, sweetie, let me tell you something. Let me tell you what the Lord had to say about this thing that you're participating in. This is what God had to say. And after I tell a person what God had to say, guess who's going to straighten them up and convict them of their sin. Hello, the Holy Spirit, not me. I'm not coming to convict them, I'm just coming them to give them the information. And why don't I know the information? Because if they are looking at me with that strange look in their eye, that's because they probably have seen me acting a little strange as well and doing some things I shouldn't be doing. So again, judgment. No, I'm not to judge, if I myself having set aside every weight and sin that so easily besets me, but I want you to do it.

If you can't receive at this point in your life, some kind of truth, some kind of something that brings you a parallel place where you say, "Oh my God. Okay. Maybe that wasn't the right thing to say," or "that wasn't the right thing to do, and Lord, I need to receive some ministering from somebody who might be able to help me." Then we need to be, again, examining ourselves. Why? What makes us think that we can't have somebody come and tell us, okay, "You a little bit off right now. Your behavior and the things you're saying and doing are not lined up with the Word of God?" Well, the reason why we can't cast judgment is because most of the time our thinking and our way is not lined up with the will of God. So, now, it's hard for me to try to bring you some information when I, myself, am all out of control.

Listen, we need to be ministering to each other. Oh my God. That's the whole idea of the community of saints. Pastor can't do it, the elders are supposed to be there. We have lived in church and bodies, rules and regulations all of our life and you mean to tell me, we get to 50, 60, 70, 80 years old and we can minister to people? I can't say to you while we at the bowling alley sitting at the table, brother Tommy, I heard what you said, let's talk about this because here's where the, I know where the scripture is. Let's go through the scripture and let's seek the Lord in this situation.

All of the things I should be taking in, should be things that spiritually enhance me and make me strong. And not only for me, but so that I can strengthen you. And that's how we should be seeing each other. When we look around the church and the Holy Spirit shows us things about people, it's not to talk about. It's not to pick up the phone and then, "Did you hear what she said?" No. You should have said something to her when you were standing there. What you calling me for? Why are you calling me? Oh, you calling me to pray. Is that what it is? Oh, I'm sorry. Forgive me. I didn't understand when you started talking about this, sister, I was confused.

And if we haven't learned at certain ages how to subject that flesh, put it under subjection, as Paul said ... He said, "I beat this flesh into subjection." I have to be serious about this or else my flesh, as usual, is going to take over and lead and guide me rather than my spirit man, who is communicating with the God that I serve. My flesh don't communicate with God. My flesh is an enmity against that. It's just not going to happen. Paul says the flesh and the spirit fight. They're at odds with each other. My flesh is not saved when I say yes to Jesus. My soul is saved. My spirit man is coming up out of here, and this flesh is going to decay, die, is gone, and it's not going to make any difference until God raises it all up at the Judgment, at the time of Judgment. It's gone, it's done.

And because we're older does not mean that... We represent more than ever, as elders in the church, what it is God is desiring for young people and youthful people to be doing, and how they should be living. They are looking to us. And when they get upset and angry, "Well, I don't see why, Pastor, you're having us do all of this and your elders in here are off the chain." What, elders can't be off the chain? Most certainly they can. Until the spirit is gone out of the body, that flesh is still having its way.

There's some things we just have to make some determinations through the Holy Spirit. Lord, how do you want me to deal with this? Is this where you want me? Do you want me in the midst of this, and now I'm going to minister the people at the barbecue? Is that really what you want? Or do I not to need go to the barbecue and let them know why? I need to stake my claim why I'm not coming to the barbecue. It's not that I don't love you, but here's some things I've decided to do that the Lord has shown me and I'm willing to just listen, go all out and do whatever it takes. He said, "Come out from among them." People are not going to understand that language. They're going to take it as an insult, but we have to know that the Lord said come out from among them because you are being sanctified and set apart for something different. And how long do we continue to go through this? Year after year after year. It's still one foot in and one foot out. Still maybe I will and maybe I won't. When do we get to the point where we know for sure?

How much participation am I going to have with ungodly behavior with my family and with my friends and with my coworkers because I'm supposed to be in the position to make a difference in their life. So now they don't even know that I'm saved and sanctified. That's a problem, number one. I'm among people, and they don't know that I'm saved. That's a big problem because we should look like we've been set apart. You know what I mean? Not to make people feel badly, but in order that they understand that I know. And when they ask or they have something to say about it, I need to be able to respond to that in a fashion that is loving and kind, but yet, it's solid. It is rooted and grounded in what I believe. And what I believe is that how God desires for me to live is the truth, nothing but the truth, so help me, God. And so this is what I'm telling you now. I can't participate in that.

The church is losing its power, and it can't be regained until we're on the same side as God. And that means that I'm going to do this God's way. The whole church has to be on one accord, right? Is that not how it started in the book of Acts? They were all on one accord. They all believed and did things together, by faith. They broke bread together. If one didn't have, the other one gave, and that's how the church was. There was no such thing as I got mine, you get yours. If you had more, then you gave a little bit more. If I had less, I wasn't afraid to give what I had. So everybody needs to be doing something to participate in being empowered as a church. We are a group of baptized born-again believers. That's what the church is made up of. And so I need to be living out my part of it.

This is supposed to be a personal journey that we're having with the Lord and though we're learning through sermons and we're learning through Bible study and we're learning through study at home, the most important part of this is to apply it. Application, application, application is the most important part of it. I can talk a whole lot of good words and recite scripture and all of that, but if I'm not applying it to my life, there is no change going on and there's still foolishness happening everywhere I go and everything I'm involved with, then apparently, I'm not really living what I believe. I can just tell you I go to church every Sunday and carry a Bible from my car to the church, and then leave out looking the same way and things are still going on, which the enemy has control of in my life that nobody is privy to because God has allowed it to be covered. But there comes a time when you know what? God is going to uncover the foolishness.

Because we do what's comfortable. The moment somebody asks us to be stretched, "Oh, that's not my gift." Oh, okay. All right. That's not your gift, but you're supposed to be bearing good fruit. Right? So that your fruit shall remain, so that when people come up to you as you are, you're supposed to have this living water springing up on the inside of you. So if I'm coming over and I'm trying to pluck something off of you because I'm in need, I'm hungry and thirsty, where are you at? That's not my gift. Huh? I've been on drugs for 30 years. I've been an alcoholic, then been on the street. My kids have been taken, ripped from me. I don't even care anymore about me, them or anybody else. What can I pluck from you? You don't even want to be around me. I smell.

If we're to bear good fruit, then we're going to be stretched by that fruit. We got to move past the easy stuff. Yeah, you want to love me. From a distance. You don't want to love me up close. You don't to go to the prison and visit me. Those demonic spirits running around there, you afraid of them. Guess what? Some of them in your house. Some of them in your church, sitting next to you on a pew, in the pulpit. They're everywhere. But they know who to mess with and who not to. These are all things we need to understand about the power that dwelleth on the inside of us. We can't be folding over for the enemy.

While you sleep, an enemy come in and tries to take you out. The Holy Spirit is there like this. Don't even think about it. Making intercession. Shouldn't be having no nightmares anymore. Because when you start to have a renewed mind and your spirit is growing stronger in the Lord, the enemy can't come in and do that kind of foolishness anymore. I should have no fear. Even, Paul said it. Even in sickness. Whatever my condition, he said, I've learned to be what? Content. Amen. Whatever my condition. Content.

In the sick bed, in prison, whatever the situation, in the poor house. I'm homeless, I've learned to become content with God and whatever he has for me and wherever he has me I'm going to still continue to do what he's called me to do. Perhaps I'm in this position and in this place that I might minister to others who have been here a lot longer than me.

We should not be under condemnation from the enemy. Why? Because if we're walking by the spirit and not by the flesh, those things should not be any more a contradiction in my heart. "Oh, I shouldn't have done that." You'd better believe it, you shouldn't have done it. "I shouldn't be thinking like that about that person." That's right, you shouldn't. Your heart is convicting you. And most of the times we ignore these things, and we just continue on in it like it's okay. It's not okay. It's not pleasing in the sight of God when we even think these things. Who are we to pass that kind of judgment?
