On this episode I spoke with Steve Petermann, the Construction Trades Manager with the Washington State Dept. of Corrections, and also manages the Pre-Apprenticeship program TRAC (TRADES RELATED APPRENTICESHIP COACHING ). Sister Minna Long brought this to my awareness and feel it needs more attention. Sister Minna graduated from this program while apart of the correctional system. Trac was the conduit that brought Minna to the Ironworkers. Steve provides us with information on a program that can make our membership grow and allows us to be that home for people who need those 2nd chances.

Lorne and I had a great conversation with Graham Trainor, president of the Oregon AFL-CIO. We asked about what the AFL-CIO is and what it does. We really enjoyed this one and we hope you get something out of it.
We talked with Brother Shawn Nehiley of Ironworkers Local 7, Boston and David Argus of Karas glass, a family owned company in Boston. Addiction effects everyone differently. Shawn and David tell their stories of addiction, also how they got through it. This was such an amazing interview. I truly hope you get something out of this.
I talk with sister Sam Steinmeyer about her good friend, our local 29 sister Bree Smith who lost her life to suicide 3 years ago. This was a tough one, but the knowledge we can learn from it is endless. I hope everyone gets something from this one. BE SAFE
We lose more construction workers to suicide than on the job deaths. When i heard that, i was blown away. Lorne and I spoke with Max and Anna from Lines For Life a non-profit dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. It was a great talk and i truly hope you get something out of this, as well as to find the courage to say something if you are not doing well. Also if you see a co-worker not doing well, please just see how they are doing, by doing that you show that person you care.
