"Surrounding yourself with positive people is crucial for mental wellness. Identify the friends and family who truly support you, and prioritize spending time with them. Also learn to set boundaries with toxic relationships through honest communication. Healthy bonds nurture healthy minds!" * After all the self work I do and you do, don’t you think that positive relationships are on the top of your list. As a mostly single person, I crave these relationships. I have been blessed to have caring siblings with great kids so I get surrounded by loving nephews and nieces and great parents. I think building healthy and open relationships can be really hard for people that experience mental health struggles. I know I get into my head and close off instead of reaching outs. Remember, if you need help seek it form family, friends, your doctors or emergency lines.

Gratitude "Need a quick mental health boost? Try gratitude! Taking just a few moments to appreciate the good things in your life can lift your mood and provide perspective. Make a habit of writing down 3-5 things you're grateful for each morning to start your day with an attitude of gratitude." * For me when my mental health is really challenged on a particular day, starting with saying gratitude for those closest to you for a minute, helps give me a moment of peace or even a smile. From there give gratitude to your friends and colleagues, to the communities around you and even to the planet. It really helps.

About our Guest

When Al Lyman was 25, he made a conscious decision to "die healthy." The phrase he used at the time was to "square the curve." Every day since then, he's made it his goal to learn how to create good health and vitality and then share what he's learned with others so they too might benefit. That journey led to him writing a book at age 62 titled Age Well and Feel Great: The Proven Path to Solving the Aging Puzzle.

Along his lifelong quest for good health and fitness and vitality, he's finished dozens of marathons including having a 2:39 Boston Marathon personal best, 9 ironman triathlons including 3 finishes at the Ironman Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, numerous sports therapy and strength and conditioning certifications, as well as having owned and operated a gait analysis lab in partnership with a sports physician.

From overcoming being bullied and a near-fatal drowning at 10 years old, to overcoming PTSD and learning to swim at 36 years old, to transitioning from a career in music to being a business owner, to becoming an author, Al has learned firsthand the importance of failing forward, being a life-long learner, and never giving up. Above it all, every step of his journey has been focused on becoming truly healthy and aging well, so he could extend not only his lifespan, but more importantly, his healthspan. His ultimate goal is to be able to do what he enjoys with those who matter the most, right up until his last day. As his book attests, Al has always been passionate about sharing all that he’s learned with others.

And you get a chance to join me in doing a short exercise that hopefully is going to make your brain happier. I set an intention for something specific and you can do the same!

Light language healing is about transforming the heaviness and enlightening the light within oneself. - Birgitta Visser

About our Guest

Birgitta Visser is the author of the book, BE-com-ing Authentically Me, a Soul Empowerment Coach, Light Language Healer and being Dutch, a bit of a bike messenger between the here and there delivering messages from the many Master Teachers integral to helping elevate the consciousness of humanity and the planet. She has often stumbled through the darkness of her own trauma, often walking through her own blistered hell, yet she soldiered on and to heal the demons that had taken up residence in the comfort of her own mind, she decided to take the holistic route, facing her many layers of pain head on. Birgitta hopes that people will awaken to what life is all about, unlocking their own potential and BE-com-ing authentically themselves.

She says, "The Universe is mental in nature, you are mental in nature, all that you create comes from the mental imagery of the mind, and thus one is the Alchemist of one’s own Creation. Think what you wish to wish what you think and it shall be so. We have been given the breath of life, don't squander it living merely on the surface of who you believe yourself to be, remaining within your own trauma, but deep dive into the hues of the beautiful soul that you are, letting go of all that weighs you down, resurfacing and returning to a love for ourselves and a joie de vivre for life."

Have you ever felt like your intuition sets you apart in the corporate world?

Meet Dana Shamas, a former investment banker who defied norms and embraced her unconventional thinking. Her journey takes an unexpected twist as she delves into the spiritual realm, combining it with her analytical background. Now, she's on a mission to help YOU tap into YOUR intuitive skills and unlock YOUR true potential. Get ready for a story that will leave you wondering: how can harnessing intuition be the key to our ultimate success?

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Increase your happiness quotient by integrating intuition into your life
  • Develop intuition as a significant skill set
  • Bypass the skepticism and inhibitions that prevent the adoption of intuition at the workplace.
  • Grasp how to use intuition during meetings and presentations for a more impactful message delivery.

My special guest is Dana Shamas

We warmly welcome Dana Shamas, a beacon in the world of intuitive work and business strategy. With her roots firmly planted in the corporate world, having served at Goldman Sachs, Dana has navigated her path towards helping others tap into their own intuition to realize their full potential. Now, she employs her incredible energy and experience to empower individuals within the corporate environment to listen more to their inner voice and use it as a tool for improved performance and overall success.

From Dana ShamasI help leaders, healers, and changemakers discover their unique circuitry so they can hear their authentic voice and lead with intuition.

For the longest time, I used to think that my intuitive gifts made me…well…a little bit of an oddball.

It seemed like anytime I met someone—even a total stranger—I’d hear the words “wow…I’ve never told anyone that before!” For a while, I even thought that guiding people back home to themselves was my superpower.

But growing up, I learned I was too sensitive, too emotional, and I was better off trying to “fit in” so I could make it in the real world. It wasn’t safe for me to feel the feels and say what I felt to be true.

Eventually, I realized that my purpose in life wasn’t to lean into what the rest of the world was doing. My purpose was to help other people tap into their highest selves, so they can create a deeper connection to their true worth and identity, as well as their dreams and goals, so they can impact the world.

I work with C-Suite executives, new people and team managers, non-profit and social impact leaders, entrepreneurs, founders, and many other working professionals.

This episode is a treasure trove of wisdom designed to help you enhance your emotional regulation skills and forge a deeper connection between the food you eat and the moods you experience. But don't worry – the relevance of these insights extends to everyone seeking to elevate their emotional well-being.

Remember, allowing yourself and your children to fully express and experience emotions creates an environment of validation and support. Dr. Carroll emphasizes the importance of understanding and expressing your own feelings to better support your children on their emotional journey.

Suppressed emotions can lead to anxiety and unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as overeating. Uncover the dangers of sugar and explore how diet impacts your mood.

We discuss:

  • Destructive nature of food on mood

  • Recognizing and feeling emotions

  • Being role models in eating and emotional regulation

  • Understanding and accepting emotions, especially anxiety

  • Practicing identifying and acknowledging emotions

  • Dangers of sugar and impact of diet on mood

If you're feeling overwhelmed and exhausted from constantly trying to please others and ignoring your own needs, then you are not alone! Despite your efforts to achieve a balanced approach to mental health and wellness, you may find yourself constantly sacrificing your own self care for the sake of others' comfort. Instead of prioritizing your own well-being, you may be caught in a cycle of people-pleasing, constantly seeking validation and approval from others. This can leave you feeling depleted, disconnected from yourself, and unable to achieve the result you desire. It's time to recognize the difference between self care and self comfort and take steps towards prioritizing your own needs.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the nuanced meanings of self-care and self-comfort.
  • Learn the delicate art of balancing your self-care practices.
  • Scrutinize the comforting value of TV programs in everyday life.
  • Realize the power of emotion-laden television shows in promoting emotional release.
  • Perceive the covert implications of social media on mental wellness.

My special guest is Becca Ferguson

Get ready to unravel the nuances of self-care and self-comfort with our guest for today, Becca Ferguson. Donned with a licensed therapist tag, Becca masterfully adopts a hands-on approach to mental health, focusing on the balance of self-care and self-comfort. Often spotted steering compelling conversations around her own personal experiences, the insights she brings to the table are powerfully relatable. Becca isn't just a therapist; she's a real human who isn't afraid to talk about weight struggles, eating disorders, and the benefits of dreamy weekends filled with 'trash TV'. So, if you're yearning for an authentic perspective on mental health, Becca has got you covered.

Key Takeaways:

  • Prioritize self care activities like exercise, meal planning, socializing, and education to improve overall mental health.
  • Balance self care with self comfort to avoid overstimulation and depression. Find activities that bring comfort without negatively impacting mental health.
  • Consider using trash TV or shows like The Voice and AGT to tap into emotions and find inspiration in others' journeys.
  • Watch emotional shows or movies like My Girl to allow yourself to feel and release emotions in a safe space.

Consistency! How do you maintain it? Today we focus on:

  • Short-term challenges such as 30-day or 75-day programs may not be the best approach to creating sustainable habits.
  • The importance of sustainability as the first priority.
  • Tracking just a couple habits a day as a starting point
  • The concept of habit stacking, where one can add more tasks to an existing habit to make the most of their time
  • Combining tasks such as listening to podcasts while walking or studying during free time.
  • Focus when creating long-term changes in your life.

About our Guest Kevin Palmieri

“I am the CFO, Founder & Co-Host of Next Level University, a Global Top 100 Self-Improvement Podcast with more than 1,250 episodes and 750K+ listens in over 150 countries.

Some people find rock bottom... I found out that rock bottom had a basement.

In my mid 20's... I had it all.

I had a beautiful girlfriend, high paying job, sports car, my dream body... but I still ended up sitting on the edge of a bed debating suicide.

After my rock bottom moment, I went all in on holistic self-improvement.

I was determined to overcome my anxiety, depression and to finally live the life I'd always dreamed of.

Years later, I now host a podcast that impacts hundreds of thousands of people in countries all over the world.

At this stage, I've helped grow the podcast into a multi six-figure business, and I've recorded well over 1,200 episodes.

I've also given hundreds of speeches, trainings and coaching calls with people all over the world.

The main thing that changed was ME.

I focused on learning what I didn't know (unlearning a lot too), and my life started to shift.

I love talking about Consistency, Commitment, Habits, Mindset, Confidence, Fear, Relationships, Limiting Beliefs and everything in between.

I believe in a heart-driven but NO BS approach to holistic self improvement, and I look forward to teaching even more people about what it really takes to get to the next level!”

  • Practicing gratitude and positivity, such as listing great things that happened every day, can help improve one's overall happiness and well-being.
  • Taking care of one's physical, mental, and emotional health is important for a happy and fulfilling life.
  • Starting the day with a positive mindset and a sense of gratitude can set the tone for the rest of the day.
  • It's never too late to make small changes and take steps towards finding joy and happiness in one's life.

About our Guest Phil Barth

"On August 5, 2015 I took a surprise visit to the cardiac wing of Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.

I suffered what was labeled a "small" heart attack. I remember thinking "if this is small I'd hate to see medium."

Per the advice of my Doctor I changed my diet, started exercising more and decided to work on controlling stress.

For the past five years I have published a daily list: Great things that happened today. Each day I celebrate the great things that happened. Since I started this journey I've met some fascinating people, discovered new recipes and celebrated life. And I've laughed a lot.

I even wrote a book on the subject - it's an International Best Sort of Seller (it went to #1 on free books when I released it... that's sort of a sale).

For my 15 minutes of fame, I was on the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" in 2003."

"When I first came to mindfulness and meditation, I thought it was you had to sit with a very quiet mind, you couldn't have any thoughts. And I was thinking, how is this going to happen? And I've learned over time that it's really just allowing the thoughts to move back and forth, recognizing that they're there, I almost kind of wave at them and say, oh, hey, how are you?"

In this episode, we feature Erik DeRosa, a former financial analyst from New York who found peace and mindfulness in the mountains of Colorado. Erik shares his story of how he left the fast-paced city life to become a ski instructor and how skiing helped him beat stress and anxiety.

Key points:

  1. Skiing is not a competition, but an experience to be savored and enjoyed.
  2. Spending time in nature, whether on the mountain or just outside, is a key way to combat depression and anxiety.
  3. When feeling stressed, find a special place in nature in your mind that you can go to as a way to beat anxiety and stress.

Through his journey, Erik emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and finding peace in nature. He shares his tips and insights on how to get the most out of your time on the mountain and how skiing can help you find balance and inner peace. Join us as we explore Erik's journey to mindful skiing and learn how to bring mindfulness into your own life.

About our GuestErik DaRosa, known by friends as “Yoda,” is the Founder and CEO of From Survivor to Thriver, a mental health advocate and speaker and Co-host of the popular From Survivor to Thriver podcast. Through his work, Erik is upending the front-end of the mental health space and building a bridge between those who seek resources and those who provide both help and hope. Each week on his podcast, he tackles different mental health topics through honest and relatable "kitchen table" conversations with real people who are helping to shatter mental health stigmas and find their voices. He aims to normalize discussions around mental health topics and remind his audience they are not alone, there is strength in community and "it's perfectly ok to not always be ok."

The AI Episode

Like so many, I have been fascinated by the emergence of ChatGBT, an accessible AI that can write poetry, recommend travel plans and yes generate text for a Podcast. Combining this with other tools, such as Descript and Pictory, I created this AI Mental Health Podcast. This is a total experiment and I would love your feedback, good or bad and what these kinds of tools will mean going forward.

In addition to the audio podcast, you can watch the video here on another platform.

Here are the Steps I used to Create this Podcast.

  1. Access ChatCBT to generate the Text
  2. I Entered the Following text:

I want to create a new 15 minute episode of my podcast. Here is the show description. Can you generate topics and copy for a new episode?

Most conversations around mental health can seem kind of heavy. Is there a way to promote our mental and emotional well-being in a fun and entertaining way? Join Sean Bloch each week as he explores the FUN side of mental health by digging into simple hacks and fun tips to make your mental health journey more enjoyable and your brain a little happier.

  1. Access Pictory to paste the text from ChatGBT to create the video. https://pictory.ai?ref=sean72
  2. Access Descript to generate my AI Overdub Voice by pasting the text from ChatCBT.
  3. Return to Pictory to add the Overdub voice to the video.
  4. Create the final video.

In summary, I created an entire episode of Happy Brain with no original though and no use of my voice except for the introduction.

About our Guest Danielle MatthewsAt the age of 23 Danielle was hit by a drunk driver and sustained a life-altering injury to her brain. The medical world said there was no hope of recovery & told her to accept this life as her “new normal”.

Although her body was physically impaired, her spirit was strong & she refused to believe their diagnoses. Her mind was determined to recover…and she did! Through the power of what she refers to as ‘Mind Control,’ she attracted the mindset, techniques, and exact quantum healing technologies needed to fully recover. She has since built an international business, authored an e-book called 'Mind Control' and shares her life-altering experience with countless people around the globe.

Cow Cuddling involves meeting, sitting with, cuddling, and scratching hand-raised cows on a farm. The slower heart rate and warm body temperature of the cows induces a slowing of our own heart rate, as well as the release of Oxytocin, our social bonding hormone. Virtually experience in the episode of Happy Brain an Animal Rescue Farm and meet a number of beautiful, hand-raised Therapy Cows (incl. Amy, and Sally) to enjoy both the scientifically proven physiological benefits of the activity as well as the relaxing effects of being outside in the open air on our scenic farm surrounded by tropical rainforest. -----------------------

Cow Cuddling Co. is currently fundraising to purchase the offspring of our beloved Therapy Cows.

Milo is Amy's calf and is already trained as a Therapy Bull. He is the sweetest 500kg Bull you will ever meet. It is our goal to raise enough to purchase all of the existing offspring of our cows to ensure their mental health and happiness so that they can support their local community with our mental health.

Cow Cuddling Co. is a social enterprise that employs people living with mental illness and intellectual disabilities and donates a portion of our profits to a local Cancer Wellness Centre – COUCH. Not only do people get to enjoy the amazing benefits of Cow Cuddling Therapy but they can rest assured that their participation directly helps to support those most in need in our local community (in terms of employment opportunities and through contributions to Cancer Wellness services) in addition to providing a safe, long-term home for our beautiful Therapy Cows.
