In this week’s episode of One Thing More, Kim and Jamalyn break down the importance of Sabbath - taking a break from work and responsibilities for a period of time. They talk about how people often feel like they have to do everything themselves, and how surrendering control and allowing others to take over can be a good thing. People often put too much value on their identity being tied to their work and responsibilities, and that taking a Sabbath can help remind us of our true identity as God's creation.

Andy Jung, Andy Jung is the Director of Church Engagement at the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI), where he oversees the church engagement strategy. He leads cohorts and other training initiatives, develops relationships and networks with church and denominational leaders and ensures effective systems and processes to execute all these efforts effectively and efficiently. Andy earned a BS in Math Education from North Carolina State University, an MDiv from Campbell University Divinity School and a DMin from Fuller Theological Seminary in Youth, Family and Culture. He has served as a youth minister for 20+ years and a senior pastor for five years. In addition, Andy also served as a state executive leader for Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of NC for two years. He is passionate about helping churches better love and care for young people so the teenagers and young adults can thrive in their faith. In his free time, Andy is an avid sports fan. He especially enjoys playing golf and cheering for his beloved NC State Wolfpack. In this week's episode of One Thing More, Jamalyn and Kim discuss the sermon from the previous week about the story of the ten lepers who were healed by Jesus, and the one who returned to thank Him. They focus on the fact that the one who came back was a Samaritan. They also talk about a book called "She Got Up Off the Couch," which is a memoir by Haven Kimmel about her mother's journey. Kimmel’s mother grew up in poverty, overcame her difficulties, and went back to college, ultimately graduating summa cum laude. Kim shares her own zigzagging story of how she started at RCA, working on the factory floor, and worked there for 20 years, moving around and up before leaving to attend seminary.
The issue of same-sex marriage has been debated at General Conferences of The United Methodist Church for fifty years, and since 2015, the pressure around this issue has increased.
On February 19, Zionsville UMC gathered together for one worship service as well as a question and answer session to talk about what is currently happening in the denomination and how we, as a congregation, are responding. In this week’s episode of One Thing More, hosts Jamalyn and Kim continue the conversation and share their thoughts on what lay in store for Zionsville UMC over the coming months.

Holy Week | Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter. We start on the previous Sunday as we celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
Palm Sunday | We remember Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover with his family and disciples.
Maundy Thursday | Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." As recorded in John's gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34).
Good Friday | Good Friday is a day that proclaims God's purpose of loving and redeeming the world through the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is a day that is good because God was drawing the world to God's self in Christ. As seen in John's gospel, particularly, God was in control. God was not making the best of a bad situation, but was working out God's intention for the world — winning salvation for all people. We call it "good" because we look backward at the crucifixion through the lens of Easter!
Easter | Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. Remembering the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin.
Greek Notes | Get thee behind me, Satan, Jesus says. And we feel the sharp sting of the rebuke. But there is a small note of grace. In the temptation narrative, after Jesus had endured all the attacks of the devil, there he spoke a single word: “Hupage Satana!” (Begone! Flee from my presence!) Here the phrase is slightly different: “Hupage opiso mou Satana!” (Not “begone,” but “get behind me.”) Origen (church father from the 3rd century) suggests that Jesus is saying: “Peter, your place is behind me, not in front of me. It is your place to follow in the way I choose, not to try to lead me in the way you would like me to go.” Get behind me, and become my follower again. “For if anyone wishes to come after me,” Jesus continues, “let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

Have you been to church camp? Where did you go? What do you remember most? You can’t stay around the campfire.
In real life, the majority of your life is spent down from the mountain or not around the campfire. So now what? How do you go from a moment of mountaintop high to everyday living of routine and schedule?
Mountaintop moments give you the experience of living life with joy and excitement. These moments also remind you to be on the lookout for where God’s glory shows up in the everyday. You are called to seek out joy wherever you find yourself.
Is there something you are giving up or adding for Lent? Sacrifice something in order to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us. Don’t remove something just to remove something, remove something or add something so that when we do or don’t do that thing we are focusing on Jesus, not the thing we are adding or removing. That thing, is only a tool.

Servant leadership - the least become the greatest. The Book of Luke leans heavily into this idea. The leader is usually the one standing on top of the pile. But that’s not what servant leadership looks like.

Leadership as a spiritual practice
Have you had more positive or negative effects with the leaders in your life?

Angel Tree with Prison Fellowship Ministry | Since 1982, Angel Tree has partnered with churches like ZUMC and other volunteers around the country to minister to the children of prisoners and their families. Mother Teresa - Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26*, 1910. Her family was of Albanian descent. At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God. She knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ. At the age of eighteen she left her parental home in Skopje and joined the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India. After a few months’ training in Dublin she was sent to India, where on May 24, 1931, she took her initial vows as a nun. There are four verbs that each pastor uses when we bless the bread or the cup. These are the four movements of the communion liturgy. Christ takes. Christ blesses. Christ breaks (or sheds). Christ gives. So we remember that the life of Christ was taken and blessed, broken and distributed, for the salvation of us all. But here’s the kicker: when we come to the altar, to receive this meal, we bring ourselves, and ask God to do with us what God will. To make something of our lives, broken and marred by sin though we may be. And so God takes, receiving and blessings us. But then, once Christ is in us, we are broken and given--sent forth to be living sacrifices of love and service and witness to God’s great grace and mercy.

Baptism - There’s arguments about how you should be baptized (sprinkling, pouring, or full immersion in water). We also disagree about how often you need to be baptized. Some churches teach you have to baptized anew with every profession of faith, or to be part of their specific congregation, while others (including Methodists) affirm only one baptism is sufficient for your lifetime. And probably the biggest debate centers around when you can receive that baptism--how old do you have to be? Is there an age of accountability for which we should wait, or can others (like your parents) make the decision to have you baptized?

Maundy Thursday - Maundy Thursday is an alternate name for Holy Thursday, the first of the three days of solemn remembrance of the events leading up to and immediately following the crucifixion of Jesus. The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." As recorded in John's gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them (John 13:34). While John's gospel does not record the institution of the Lord's Supper among the events of this night, the other gospels do. Christians therefore keep this night with celebrations both at the basin (footwashing) and at the Lord's Table (Holy Communion).
Good Friday - Good Friday is a day that proclaims God's purpose of loving and redeeming the world through the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. God was not making the best of a bad situation, but was working out God's intention for the world — winning salvation for all people. We call it "good" because we look backward at the crucifixion through the lens of Easter! The service this evening is more reflective in tone - hearing the story the story of Jesus’ crucifixion, interwoven with song and prayer.
Easter Sunday - Easter is all about new life. The story of Easter recounts how, when the world was lost in darkness and doubt, God intervened to do something new. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb on the third day after his crucifixion. The name "Palm Sunday" comes from a story in the Bible in which Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem. In their excitement, the people grabbed palm branches to wave and threw their cloaks before Jesus on the road. The whole scene might have looked something like an ancient parade. This Sunday is a celebration of wonder. We celebrate that God continues to surprise and are welcoming in the miracle to come: the miracle of Resurrection.
