When it comes to town government, I have long believed that more information = more participation. With that idea in mind, I’ve been working on an approach to reach as many people as possible with information and commentary about the work our Town Administration, Council, Planning Board, and all committees are doing on behalf of the residents of Newmarket. It's called “The List” and is a list of upcoming events and current projects in town that I think are important and hope you'll pay attention to.
Aimee Gigandet is the Recreation Director in Newmarket. We talked several weeks ago about some of the programs and initiatives the Rec Department is working on this summer, including the new splash pad, Arts in the Park, kayak rentals and more!
Newmarket's Water & Sewer Departments maintain the Wastewater Treatment Facility, the water treatment facility, 7 pumps, 25 miles of sewer lines and 30 miles of water main. They ensure we have clean drinking water and work to minimize our impact to the surrounding waterways. Sean Grieg, the Environmental Services Director, explained the current projects in this department and the important role they have in our community.
Steve and I talked several weeks ago about a wide range of topics - the MacAllen Dam, EV Charging stations, the Parking Commission, the glacial pace of town government and more. Listen in to hear this conversation and stay tuned for more interviews to be released in the coming days!
I spoke with Melissa Brogle about her work on the Conservation Commission and the recent cleanup she organized to recognize Earth Day. She had 35 groups/individuals commit to cleaning up 45 areas in town!
There were 2 cleanups this year, with a total of approximately 80 volunteers working to pick up litter along many miles of our towns' roads.
In this conversation with our Police Chief Kyle True, I learn about two new vehicle requests, including a hybrid cruiser. We also talk about energy efficiency at the Police Station and I learn what a Code 3 is!
