This week Jim & Tom are back to explore the concept of Patella Tendinopathy, previously and more commonly known as Patella Tendonitis and more colloquially as Jumper’s knee, it is one of the most common causes of knee pain especially in active people and so will be the first in a series of episodes exploring different knee conditions - that’s right the boys are taking a break from the foot and ankle conditions to move up the chain but of course it’s all connected and especially with knee pain there tends to be a strong contribution from foot and ankle dysfunction that needs to be addressed.
Of course they discuss all this in more detail throughout the episode, along with some practical tips to help you navigate your rehab journey as efficiently and effectively as possible!
If you’re struggling to make progress in your rehab, please feel free to reach out as we can either help you directly with our online consultations or can point you in the right direction of other practitioners or resources that can help you.

This week I catch up with Josh Stiles from Shamma Sandals, kicking off an exciting new chapter in our story. As we continue our mission to empower our listeners and change how we all think about our feet, we're thrilled to announce Shamma as our very first Natural Footwear partner!
We rigorously test the shoes of all of our partners to ensure they deliver on what they promise. As you’re about to hear, Shamma is a brand that's at the forefront of crafting genuine, foot-shaped sandals that embody the true essence of natural movement and foot health.
So, why are we teaming up with brands like Shamma? Because our missions are intertwined. Both of us are driven by the belief that footwear should be an extension of ourselves, allowing us to move freely, naturally, and comfortably.
It's about time that we, as a society, relearn the importance of treating our feet right. By partnering with leading brands in the natural footwear space, we aim to bring you exclusive insights, stories, and opportunities to make that switch to a healthier foot lifestyle while delivering leading TFC foot health education straight into the shoe boxes of footwear customers.
As part of the new partnership Shamma are offering all TFC customers 10% off their shoes if you use the code THEFOOTCOLLECTIVE one word.

This week Jim and Mac explore the concept of the 'Cave of Comfort' which is an element of this new story that we’ve been crafting around the Journey to Foot Freedom. The basic premise is that most people are essentially reading from the wrong map, which means that even despite a lot of investment of time, money and energy, they can’t effectively progress towards true foot freedom and tend to end up further down this metaphorical cave of comfort.
So throughout this episode we talk through the evolutionary basis of comfort and why we naturally tend to seek comfort, we discuss the importance of exposure to discomfort to promote resilience and growth as well as the value of having a community of people around you who are on the same journey and can either inspire and guide you or who can be inspired and guided by you.
We recorded this episode earlier in the year while we were out bush doing some filming - we had a rainy morning so we sat by the fire and recorded this conversation, so just to note that you will hear a bit of that white noise in the background, but the rest of the audio should be clear. We certainly enjoyed this setting and style of podcast so if you enjoy it too, please do let us know and feel free to send through requests of topics for us to dive into around the fire.
Also if you get value out of our podcasts in general then you can support us by sharing out our episodes with friend and family and also by leaving us a review where ever you usually listen to podcasts!

This week I’m back with Tom to explore the concept of Ankle Sprains which are one of the most common injuries in the lower limb but are often the least well managed.
Throughout the episode we discuss what an ankle sprain actually is as well as other injuries that may come along with or even be confused with an ankle sprain, we go through the current best practice for managing an acute sprain (spoiler it’s not the RICE method), and we explore what kinds of strategies you should focus on in your rehab process, whether you’ve just had an ankle sprain or if you’ve ever had one in the past.
If you’re struggling to make progress in your rehab, please feel free to reach out as we can either help you directly with our online consultations or can point you in the right direction of other practitioners or resources that can help you. Helpful links:

How her improved foot strength and mobility has made her a better tap dancer and why she’s now passing on her newfound appreciation for her feet to her young students.

This week I speak with Dr. Ray McClanahan. Ray is an awesome human, a personal friend and I consider him to be one of the few OG’s that have been spreading the truth about foot health for over 2 decades.
Ray is a practicing doctor of podiatric medicine and also the inventor of Correct Toes. We begin with Ray sharing the story of how he came to do the work he does today.
Rays journey of transformation from treating symptoms to empowering patients with education is really inspiring and Ray tells the story really well.
We talk about an article he’s super intrigued by that sheds new light on the relationship between footwear shape, blood flow and plantar fasciosis which you can check out here.
We discuss his upcoming invitation to be a keynote speaker at the podiatric medicine annual conference, the seeming readiness of his profession to evolve how they treat, the books he’s writing and the idea of an annual foot summit that unites team foot health from around the world in person to share ideas and collaborate on education content to spread truth.
Ray drops some really powerful truth bombs in our conversation and I’m stoked to listen to it again and take notes when this episode releases.
I really enjoyed speaking with Ray and hope you enjoy listening to the conversation.

This week we bring you a bite-sized nugget of wisdom from our Live Fireside for June. Firesides are our monthly community catch-ups around the virtual campfire - a warm, welcoming live call where humans come together to ask those burning questions, refine our collective truths, share stories and inspire each other.
On this gathering our founder and Chief of Community - Nick St Louis unpacks something that relates deeply to our mission at TFC - the paradigm shift happening in health as we move from centralized disease care to decentralized health care.
Our Firesides are free for all to join and are held on the first Friday of every month at 5PM Eastern Standard Time (that’s 7am on Saturday in Australian Eastern Standard time).
To get involved, click 'join the community' below and then head to the Meet-Ups’ section to RSVP for the next fireside.

This week I chat to Melody Henderson from New York in the USA. 4 years ago Melody was struck down with a debilitating chronic illness, It affected every aspect of her daily life. She was afraid to leave her home and Doctors couldn’t work out what was wrong.
So through her own research, Melody decided to try a more natural approach. She changed her diet, fixed her sleep and started going barefoot and wearing natural footwear. Everything seemed to be improving until she injured her achilles.
It was too much too soon for her foundation and so began Melody’s journey to foot freedom. This was a really inspiring chat and I can’t wait for you to all hear how Melody is going now!
