Presented by The Leadership One Stop and HE Talks Podcast...we are excited to announce the first annual Black Male Summit! We are inviting Black Men from all over Birmingham who are community leaders, educators, local appointed and elected officials, activists, and mentors to the Black Men Summit.
From 9am to 12:30pm, we will hear from dynamic community leaders about the state of Black Men in Birmingham and ways to elevate our communities. In addition, we will provide opportunities for networking and collaboration during several of our networking periods throughout the event. Last, our goal is to provide long term solutions to the various issues affecting Black Men and the community overall. Therefore, we will be providing breakout sessions and safe spaces for us to answer the ultimate question..."what next and how do we fix our communities?"
Then, it gets even better! After we dismiss the various leaders throughout the city at the conclusion of the event...we will be hosting our young men ages (11-17 years old) for a summit geared towards the next generation of Black Male leaders. We will have dynamic speakers from through the country to talk with young men about the journey of manhood, cultural identity, leadership, and the importance of education. In addition, we will host several breakout sessions/workshops for young men within the topics of conflict resolution, mental health/emotional intelligence, professional development/how to tie a tie, and career exploration.

Fellas, let's talk hard work and dedication. Work towards your goals and work hard at them!
Let’s talk about winning friends and influencing people (actually I just joking, we are taking about something more attainable). We are talking about building solid friendships.
Everyone loves to bring up the book "Win Friends and Influence People" but the title is slightly misleading. You can't win friends via some contest, gift giving, or risking your mental health and otherwise. True friendship is organic and it happens through time, patience, making genuine connections, asking GOD for a brotherhood to build, and consistency.
One area that I believe women have us beat...women understand strength in unity and creating a village. And, in many cases many men have a difficult time finding community within certain phases of life (post-HS, post-college, or otherwise). Many men live isolated and although I believe solitude is important...it's also important for us as men (particularly Black Men) to find common ground and build collective community.
Thus, here are my quick steps to do so...

Be Intentional About Checking-In on People (I believe this helped me transition my associations into friendships. Be consistent and focus on building trust).

Using social media (although I disliked social media previously, I do see the way it connects people...whether it is starting group chats or simply sending articles to a close friend or two. It’s a great way to quickly check-in and share information).

Joining a Young Professional group is a great way to get connected to like minded people your age who are working and trying to better themselves (definitely try to find a YP group...but definitely have a sense of discernment when deciding). Church small groups can also be great as well.

Getting involved in the community is a great way to give back and meet new people. Great friends are generally community orientated and have a passion centered around the common good of others.

Understand that the term friend is distinctive so definitely audit your circle and make sure you’re growing in your friendships.
Hey Fellas, I want to encourage you to know your worth. Know who you are for yourself and live that out in the workplace, in your relationship and in every area of your life. It's so important!
What's good Fellas! It's ok to acknowledge your flaws and work on the areas that is not so perfect. It's important to know the areas that need to be improved but no man is perfect even when people portray themselves to me. They are not! In this video, we'll dive deeper into how to overcome this.Â
Black Men we need to step up and save our kids! They are the future! When will we say enough is enough with the murder that are taking place in our city? When will we wake up and stop being desensitized? Here is your call to action! We can do this.Â
