"I am a mother of 2 beautiful daughters. The fitness industry has had my heart and was my home for the last 20 years. I am on a journey currently discovering where I want to go next, who I am now and what I am truly passionate about. My husband and I have been married for 19 years and we are closer than we have ever been. I cherish my relationship with him more than he will ever know. We live on his family farm in West Branch. Learning farm life and small town living has been an adjustment. But I see the beauty more and more every day! I have had my fair share of battles with mental health and share what I can if I know it will help another person. I am a pretty private person but doing this podcast has taken me to a new level of uncomfortable. Without discomfort, we do not grow. I feel lucky to have had this opportunity with Cara and love being a part of this journey."

Ashley Erickson lives and works in Coralville with two of her great loves—her son, Jack, and their dog, Bugsy. Her wry style and penchant for profanity make the story of her formative years entertaining while insightful. However, the story gets all-the-way real when in the fall of 2022 her husband passed away after a sudden illness; the events of that time are unlike anything you’ve heard. But the real story is the love; the love she and Jeff shared, the love Jeff felt for their son, the love he had for life. Most importantly, the love that fills the space caused by grief, the kind that holds us up and puts us back together and reminds us all we can begin again.

CONTENT WARNING: Physical, emotional, and sexual abuse will be discussed.

"A Johnson county/Iowa native, I’m a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur, and a friend. I’m a fan of big words and small numbers (like imbroglio and 7), and writing bios is a specialty that I indulge from time to time. I might also be a tad sarcastic. When asked to describe me, the people I love replied with the most fulfilling word salad ever made (and the only salad I will ever eat, thank you), with the words strong, beautiful, creative, intelligent, and generous on repeat. However, I’m humbly reminded of my questionable taste in 70’s music and 80’s fantasy movies (long live Xanadu).

Professionally, I found my way into the insurance industry as a single parent, age 20. When I realized that I could make a profound difference in the lives of my community as an agent, I knew it was where I belonged. In 2011, this dream was realized with a team earning top 100 (in the nation) status our first year. Delivering clients amazing service, giving back to the community, and continued education and growth were mainstays of the Evans agency.

However, life is unpredictable. Recent years brought medical issues, BLM, the pandemic, and a host of other unseemly challenges. But what started as massive destruction is becoming a beautiful saving grace. As I move forward, my intention is to rebuild my agency with a focus on creating a space that is welcoming and safe for everyone, with a focus on being of service to those in marginalized communities.

I traveled abroad alone in my 20’s to visit a dear friend. While in London, I met a man who changed my life with the gift of one book. In it, Paulo Coelho wrote “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better.”

I concur."

There is a teen parent fund named after Neva Evans at United Action for Youth (UAY) in Johnson County Iowa."

Neva would LOVE to see this fund receive donations if you are so inclined!

Dale Kepler is a native Iowan. He was born and grew up in Estherville, where he met the love of his, Sheila, a native of Emmetsburg, Iowa.

He earned his Master of Business Administration and Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Iowa. Dale has over 30 years of experience in Operations and Lean Manufacturing. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was an M1A1 Armor Crewman becoming a Tank Commander, Section Sergeant, and achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Dale lives with his wife, Sheila, in Iowa City. They have three adult children, a daughter Ollie, and sons Patrick and Aaron. Dale loves to laugh and tries to find humor in almost everything; classic rock(don’t ask his favorite band, rest assured they recorded their hits between 1970-1990) and good food-not, pretty food. He loves the Iowa Hawkeyes, bike riding, and reading.

Dale affectionately suffers from RBF(Resting Bitch Face)- or, as his family describes, “the Look.” In describing Dale to his friends' parents, son Aaron cracked,” My dad is like a hand grenade, just looking for someone to pull his pin.”

Dale and Sheila have been longtime advocates for people experiencing homelessness and those struggling with food insecurity. They were heavily involved with their church- First Christian Church, in providing overflow shelter for the homeless. They have also been active volunteers for the Coralville Food Pantry. Dale also served on the board of the Iowa City Shelter House. Dale’s biggest pet peeve is people who play the victim and lack any sense of responsibility or accountability for decisions that they have made.
