Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. John 13:1–5 (NLT)Jesus showed his love to the END because there is no END to his love.MAKE AN IMPACTWe are called to be spiritual CONTRIBUTORS, not spiritual CONSUMERS. SEE a need MEET a need.BOTTOM LINE: It’s IMPOSSIBLE to love Jesus and not SERVE people.THE CHALLENGE: Meet a NEED this week.

NOTESThe point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.2 Corinthians 9:6-81. PLAN your generosity. But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.Isaiah 32:8 (NLT)2. Trust God with the TITHE.A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.Leviticus 27:30 (NIV)Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.Malachi 3:10 (NIV)3. Start being generous TODAY.And I am praying that you will put into action the generosity that comes from your faith as you understand and experience all the good things we have in Christ.Philemon 1:6 (NLT)Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.Luke 16:10 (NIV)BOTTOM LINE: It takes faith to give FIRST. It doesn’t take faith to give what’s LEFT.THE CHALLENGE: Take the tithing challenge.

NOTES:What does the Bible say about our body? Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own image.  In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Genesis 1:26-28 (NLT)Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day. Genesis 1:31 (NLT) The SOCIAL Script: Transform your BODY.SCRIPTURE: Transform your MIND. And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)

NOTES:Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.1 Corinthians 6:18–20 (NIV)HOW DID WE GET HERE?CORE IDEOLOGY #1: Expressive Individualism.“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT)Your identity is GIVEN by God, not DISCOVERED by you.CORE IDEOLOGY #2: The core of my identity is my sexuality.Culture says, EXPRESS yourself.Jesus says, DENY yourself. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?Matthew 16:24–26 (NIV)For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.2 Timothy 4:3 (NLT)

Pray. All the time. This week Luke and Josh talk about all that happened this past Sunday. Creative Arts was a success and the Middle School and High School kids helped lead, and Luke discussed why prayer is so important. Listen in!

NOTES:And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray:“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,  but deliver us from the evil one.”          Matthew 6:5-13 (NIV)Two warnings:-1. Don’t pray for attention from man. -2. Don’t pray for attention from God. “Prayer is about presence before it is about anything else. Prayer doesn’t begin with outcomes. Prayer is the free choice to be with the Father, to prefer his company.” -Tyler StatonHow do we start? “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10.BOTTOM LINE: Prayer is an invitation to enjoy God’s presence more than it is to requests God’s presents. CHALLENGE: Find time to be still.

NOTES:He had to go through Samaria on the way. Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.”Many Samaritans from the village believed in Jesus because the woman had said, “He told me everything I ever did!” When they came out to see him, they begged him to stay in their village. So he stayed for two days, long enough for many more to hear his message and believe. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not just because of what you told us, but because we have heard him ourselves. Now we know that he is indeed the Savior of the world.”          John 4:4-7, 39-42 (NLT)WHEN DO ONE-AT-A-TIME CONVERSATIONS HAPPEN?INTERSECTIONSINTERRUPTIONSINTERESTSINTERCESSIONBOTTOM LINE:If you want to make a DIFFERENCE focus on the ONECHALLENGE: Have ONE “One-at a time” conversation this week.

NOTES:  “Who is the Holy Spirit?”But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me. Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more. Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. NOTES:Then Jesus told this story to some who had great confidence in their own righteousness and scorned everyone else: Two men went to the Temple to pray. One was a Pharisee, and the other was a despised tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not like other people—cheaters, sinners, adulterers. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’ “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 18:9–14 (NLT)  Jesus wasn't just concerned about RIGHT and WRONG; He was also concerned about PRIDE and HUMILITY. We don't change people by judging them, but by loving them. HUMBLE Yourself (or BE humbled) BOTTOM LINE: Jesus didn’t call us to only be RIGHT. He called us to be LOVING. CHALLENGE: “Do I have my own ‘thank God I’m not like them’ list? And if so, who’s on it?”

Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you. For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape. But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded. Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk. But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us. Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.1 Thessalonians 5:1–11 (NLT)The return of Christ isn’t a source of APPREHENSION,but a cause for ANTICIPATION.HOW CAN WE LIVE A READY LIFE?BE PREPAREDSTAY ALERTASK: AM I READY?BOTTOM LINE:Deal with what’s WITHIN to prepare for the END.THE CHALLENGE:What needs to be made RIGHT?

They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)Life Changing Relationships…SUPPORT ONE ANOTHERCarry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Successful people do CONSISTENTLY what others do OCCASIONALLY.ALL IN = CONSISTENCYSo they called the apostles back in and commanded them never again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:18–20 (NLT)There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them. Acts 4:34 (NLT)So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too. Acts 6:7 (NLT)ALL IN with SERVINGThere are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 1 Corinthians 12:4–5 (NLT)ALL IN with GIVINGThey share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor. Psalm 112:9 (NLT)ALL IN with SHARINGHe replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” John 9:25 (NIV)BOTTOM LINE:The ALL IN life is about CONTRIBUTING, not only CONSUMING.THE CHALLENGE:I’m going ALL IN with:

NOTES:24Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him. 25A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. 26She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. 27She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. 28For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” 29Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.30Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?”31His disciples said to him, “Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’”32But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. 34And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”  Mark 5:24-34 (NLT)FAITH is a RISKJESUS REWARDS FAITHBOTTOM LINE:A step toward JESUS is worth the RISK!THE CHALLENGE:Take ONE RISK.

Blind and Helpless - Jesus heals a blind man.Listen to Luke, Josh, and Melissa as they discuss the latest sermon.

As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing! His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said he was, and others said, “No, he just looks like him!” But the beggar kept saying, “Yes, I am the same one!” They asked, “Who healed you? What happened?” He told them, “The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see!” John 9:1–11 (NLT)It’s NEVER too LATE when Jesus is involved.Following Jesus may feel WEIRD.BOTTOM LINE:One step of OBEDIENCE can change your LIFE.THE CHALLENGE:Take ONE step.

Legacy - Everyone will be remembered for something.

Proverbs 11:30 - The fruit of the righteous is the tree of life...

  1. Intentionality - Begin with the end in mind."A wise person thinks a lot about death,     while a fool thinks only about having a good time." Eccl. 7:4 (NLT)

"Teach us to number our days,     that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12

An inheritance is what you leave to someone, a legacy is what you leave in someone.

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10 (NIV)

  1. Humility - Be unimpressed with yourself."Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV)

  2. Integrity - Be single-minded

"The Lord detests people with crooked hearts,     but he delights in those with integrity." Proverbs 11:20 (NLT)

"Walk with the wise and become wise,     for a companion of fools suffers harm." Proverbs 13:20 (NIV)

Bottom Line: It's never too early to begin planning for your legacy.

Challenge: What needs attention? What is lagging?
