There isa lot of anecdotal evidence that working with psychedelic substances can greatly improve women's health conditions and symptoms related to PMDD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other women's health concerns, but sadly - there is NOT a great deal of data-driven evidence (yet) to back this up.

Thankfully, this is changing and one of the catalysts driving this change is the group known as Hystelica and its founder Dr. Grace Blest-Hopley.

During this podcast interview, you’ll meet Dr. Grace and learn about some key info such as:

  • How psychedelics appear to be helping women dealing with health concerns and challenging symptoms related to PMDD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more
  • Why hasn't there been more "clinical, data-driven" research into these important areas, and why this have to change
  • How Hystelica and similar groups have an opportunity to change the future of women's health not just for us but for many generations of women to come
  • How you can play a simple, easy but pivotal role in how seriously the establishment takes "psychedelics" and "women's health" going forward and make a serious contribution to future generations of women's health and well-being

Click here to learn about the pioneering research happening through Hystelica, and click here to take part in their initial survey focusing on the impact of psychedelics on women's health.

This is your opportunity to contribute and support research that can help to change the future of treatments available for issues related to PMDD, menopause, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more.

Meet Our GuestGrace Blest-Hopley PhD. is a psychedelic researcher with an extensive background in the neurochemical and neurofunctional underpinnings of cannabis, cannabinoids, and psychedelics.

She serves as Chief Scientific Officer at NW Pharma Tech, where she leads clinical trials in order to bring natural molecules in advanced delivery methods to licensing.

She also works extensively with Heroic Hearts, where she conducts research based on the therapeutic potentials of psychedelic substances alongside the charities' mission to treat those with adverse mental health outcomes from combat trauma.

Grace is also extremely passionate about women's health issues. She founded Hystelica, which is leading pioneering research examining the impact of psychedelic substances on conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, PMDD, and menopause.

For centuries women have made huge contributions to the use and advancement of psychedelics and plant medicines. Even so, many of these important women aren’t well know – or in some cases, don’t want to be known.

Our guest is the perfect person to share about the role of women in psychedelics and plant medicines. She’s invested many years in researching and writing about some of the lesser known history related to psychedelics in Canada, the United States and globally.

In this show she shares:

  • Fascinating details about the history of psychedelics n Canada, including women’s roles and how the use of LSD in an asylum in Canada led to promising research showing the effectiveness of LSD based therapy in treatment of alcoholism
  • What she learned from interviewing the wives and partners of well known psychedelic leaders, and how these women have made quiet but extremely important contributions to psychedelic/plant medicine use and research
  • Why women have often gone unacknowledged in the psychedelic space, and why some have purposefully hidden their roles and influence from the public eye
  • The history of psychedelics from a global perspective, including the involvement of women in the harvesting of ergot to support LSD production in the earlier days of Sandoz Labs in Switzerland

No doubt by the end of this interview, you’ll have even greater appreciation for the ways in which women have influenced and hopefully will continue to influence the use of psychedelics and plant medicines around the world.

As psychedelic-assisted therapy is poised to “go mainstream” most of the focus and opportunity is aimed at MD’s, therapists and others who will be “legally approved” to offer this kind of support through a medical model.

This raises some big concerns about the impact of the medicalization of psychedelics on the “underground” - those brave and skilled coaches, guides, practitioners and others who’ve been quietly offering psychedelic support in the grey market, in some cases for decades.

In this episode, we explore some interesting points on this topic, including:

  • How the changing laws can create more opportunity – and more potential liability for people offering psychedelic support outside of the emerging medical model
  • Where are underground practitioners most at risk regarding legal liability, and what can they do to minimize this
  • An emerging form of insurance that could be extremely beneficial to the underground
  • How practitioners can get access to numerous free resources to help them better serve their current clients and expand their practice going forward

Since as early as the 1950’s, psychedelics like LSD were showing real benefits in the treatment of alcoholism and other disorders.

Currently, there are several psychedelic trials being conducted in leading institutions around the world, further proving the effectiveness of psychedelic-assisted therapy for smoking cessation, alcohol and drug dependency and other substance abuse disorders.

In this episode, we’re going to examine:

  • The fascinating history (and current ways in which psychedelics are being used to treat substance abuse disorders
  • The connection between AA and psychedelics, and why founder Bill W wanted to include psychedelic therapy as one of the official 12 steps
  • The specific benefits – as well as the limitations of this innovative treatment for people in recovery
  • Some important tips to keep in mind if you want to introduce psychedelic-assisted therapy to friends or family members you feel can benefit from these treatments

And you’ll also hear how one specific real life “bad trip” led to a life-changing breakthrough of my guest.

Although this is a new area under a lot of study, the potential for psychedelic-assisted therapy to help people suffering from addiction is extremely promising, and one of the most interesting application of clinical trials and psychedelic research being conducted in the psychedelic sector.

Many of us are familiar with President Nixon’s so called “war on drugs” instituted in the 1970’s, which not only sidelined promising psychedelic research, but since then has disproportionately incarcerated mass numbers of people for simple drug use and possession, especially people of color.

What you may not be as familiar with are the specific ways in which the family members of those targeted by the war on drugs have been impacted by these dated and unfair policies.

In this episode, our guested shares from her personal experience the price that families pay when the people they love are incarcerated.

In her own words, “What a parent goes to prison, their family and community goes as well”

In this heart-felt interview, you’ll discover:

· How her father’s incarceration impacted her family and community and shaped her from a young age

· The role psychedelics have played in her healing journey

· The “race problem” she sees in the psychedelic community, and what specific steps can lead to greater access and healing for people of color wanting to benefit from psychedelic therapy

· How the “People of Color Psychedelic Alliance” is providing invaluable education to people of color regarding the risks / benefits of psychedelics and engaging people to help end the war on drugs

You’ll leave this session with an expanded and perhaps more nuanced understanding of the true impact of the war on drugs in America.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy is showing great promise for people suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, end of life distress, chronic pain and other health conditions.

But how might psychedelics be effective at treating other health conditions – specially conditions related to women’s health?

That’s what we cover in detail in this episode featuring Dr. Allison Feduccia of Psychedelic Support and Project New Day.

Many of you may already know of Allie as she is an experienced psychedelic researcher and played a pivotal role in the early clinical trial work with MAPS and MDMA.

Allison is now busy researching the link between psychedelics and women’s health, and she’s uncovered some fascinating information re the benefits of psychedelics for women (historically and in present day).

In this episode, you’ll learn:

· The historical uses of psychedelics for pregnancy and childbirth amongst women of various cultures

· How psychedelics can be potentially beneficial for women suffering with PMS, postpartum depression, and symptoms related to menopause.

· The potential to improve women’s sexual desire with psychedelics

· Additional ways psychedelics could have a significant impact on women’s physical and mental health in the years to come

Although this is a very new focus for psychedelic research, with almost 4 Billion Women on the planet – and growing - no doubt it could prove to be one of the most interesting and important.

One of the most common concerns regarding the laws changing around psychedelic-assisted therapy is access – more specifically, will the people and communities that could benefit the most, those who have potentially experienced the most trauma, be able to afford or get access to psychedelic assisted therapy?

That’s what makes the work of Courtney Watson and her team at Doorways Therapeutics, so important.

During this episode, Courtney shares about the psychedelic-therapy work being offered through their clinic in Oakland, California, and how they are supporting people of color and people with diverse gender identities.

We’ll discuss:

· How their innovative approach to therapy is making a significant difference in the healing of this community…

· How what’s happening at Doorways could potentially serve as a model for psychedelic-therapy for other types of marginalized communities…

· Important considerations for mental health care providers who are providing psychedelic-assisted (or other forms of therapy) to BIPOC / LGBTQ+ clients or communities…

· What we can all do to ensure the people who could benefit the most from psychedelic-assisted therapies can get access to it

Meet Our Guest:

Courtney Watson, MEd, MS, LMFT, CEO and Clinical Director for Doorway Therapeutic Services has started a 501c non profit called Access 2 Doorways Inc with the goal to provide affordable or subsidized psychedelic-assisted therapy for BIPOC / LGBTQ+ clients by BIPOC / LGBTG+ providers.

With so much attention focused on the potential of psychedelic substances to heal trauma, there’s now increasing interest in how these medicines may also be effective in healing intergenerational trauma – trauma that is passed from one family generation to another

If that’s possible, how could the personal healing that individuals experience with psychedelics then potentially benefit our extended families and our greater communities?

These are some of the questions we explore with Susan Beaulieu, an Anishinaabe citizen of the Red Lake Nation whose own healing experience with psychedelics is now positively affecting her immediate family, and her larger Indigenous community.

In this episode, we consider some interesting questions, including:

  • What is embodied knowing? What is the difference between understanding something intellectually and having an experience that lives in your body and informs how you think and act?
  • Can trauma pass intergenerationally – through epigenetics and other factors, and could we be carrying around unresolved trauma from our ancestors that is affecting us in the present day (without even knowing it)?
  • How could psychedelics play a role in the healing of trauma inherited from the residential school system and other atrocities inflicted on Indigenous People?
  • How using psychedelics in groups could be especially useful for healing within in Indigenous communities in North America.
  • The unique challenges Indigenous people face as they work to heal trauma with psychedelics and other modalities WHILE honoring their cultural lineage and treasured traditions of the past
  • What we can learn from Indigenous cultures as they heal intergenerational trauma that may hold the key to bringing together disparate groups within the larger psychedelic community to help us collaborate to move the psychedelic renaissance forward

This episode covers some inspiring possibilities regarding the use of psychedelics to heal people, their families, and larger communities.

Featuring: Dr. Dominique Morisano - Clinical Psychologist / Researcher / Adjunct Professor

When people learn about the benefits of psychedelic-assisted therapy and how it helps those suffering with anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain and other health issues, it’s easy to understand why there’s growing enthusiasm to make these treatments available to as many people as possible.

That’s certainly one reason that ketamine clinics are quickly growing in number in cities around the world.

There’s great potential, but also some real pitfalls, to making psychedelic-assisted therapy available to the masses, and in this episode we’ll examine some important considerations, including:

· How to know when it’s time to scale? What are the critical questions and “kpi metrics” clinic owners should consider before scaling their psychedelic therapy services to other locations?

· What types of clinicians should you hire? What are the best ways to find and hire skilled therapists who can deliver psychedelic therapy within specific time limits, without compromising on quality of care?

· In terms of a therapeutic model for psychedelic therapy, what’s the best ratio of prep time to session time to integration time?

· How important is it for a therapist to have experienced psychedelic-therapy themselves in order to do this work?

· What are the key questions clinic owners and investors should be asking to know if they’re scaling for the right reasons?

· If running on a limited budget, what elements should be prioritized within a psychedelic clinic (and which are not as important to its overall profitability or customer experience)?

· As you bring on more clients and expand your services, what strategies can you utilize within a clinic to ensure your therapy staff won’t burn out?

Our guest for this episode played a pivotal role in helping one of the largest ketamine clinics in the world scale across several locations, so she’s got some invaluable perspective to share on these questions and more.

Dr. Dominique Morisano was a driving force behind the “Research to Reality” psychedelic conference, co-hosted by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), the Mental Health Commission of Canada, and the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, which took place at the Toronto Hilton from May 27 to 29, 2022.

This “first-of-its-kind” event brought together a unique coalition of government representatives, regulators, policymakers, traditional medicine providers, neuroscientists, clinical practitioners and others to share and discuss the latest clinical research findings regarding psychedelic therapy work.

The presenters at this event represented a mosaic of diverse and invaluable perspectives from all corners of the psychedelic sector, ranging from very traditional cultural lineages to the latest in scientific research. It was groundbreaking in its scope and impact, and the session content is some of the richest and most informative in the space.
