What does home mean to you? On Make Yourself at Home, host Kristin Twiford takes you into the homes of people you admire, to give you a window into who they really are. You’ll hear what drives them, what gives them a sense of purpose, how they unwind, and how they choose to spend their time meaningfully — but perhaps more importantly — their favorite room in the house, their guilty pleasures, and their most cherished possessions. Along the way, we hope to inspire you to live better, whatever that means to you. Make Yourself at Home is produced by Nines, the household management app that helps you live with ease. Betsy Fore has always been a builder. Growing up, she used to tinker in the garage building motorcycles with her dad. After college, she invented toys for Mattel and Hasbro, and helped Michael Acton Smith build Mind Candy.
Then, she says, each of her babies inspired a company. When her dog, Whiskey, was overweight, she created WonderWoof, a fitness tracker for dogs that landed her in Forbes 30 Under 30. Then, when she was pregnant with her first child, she co-founded Tiny Organics to give her son and the rest of his generation a love of vegetables and a healthier lease on life from their earliest days. With Tiny, became the first Native American woman to raise a Series A — and now, she’s paving the way for others with Natives Rising, a career accelerator for indigenous founders and indigenous in tech. She co-founded the nonprofit just as she had her second son.
In this conversation, Betsy shares how home is both the inspiration for everything she’s built and the reason she became a builder in the first place — and how, after setting out to chase her dreams, she built a life she never could have imagined. Make Yourself at Home with Betsy Fore.

Eliza Blank’s home in upstate New York is filled with a lot ofplants. And while that might not be surprising for the Founder & CEO of The Sill — the direct-to-consumer houseplant retail and delivery brand built on the simple idea that plants make people happy — Eliza’s roots with with plants are even deeper than you might think.
Her childhood home in Massachusetts was filled with greenery. Her mom, a nurse, spent her time off in the garden because it helped her feel connected to her home in the Philippines. In the same vein, when Eliza moved to New York City, she turned to plants to bring a feeling of home to her gloomy Chinatown apartment.
That moment of homesickness planted the seed for what would one day become The Sill, kicking off Eliza’s entrepreneurship journey and leading her to build a startup that’s turning a new generation of people into “plant parents.”
For this episode of Make Yourself at Home, we're in Eliza's home in upstate New York, talking about how Eliza's family influenced her vision for The Sill, what she’s learned about life from working with plants, and why, just as she moved her family from Manhattan to the Catskills, she feels home is both a place where you feel at ease and an expression of who you are. Michael Perry is a serial entrepreneur. His company Kit was acquired by Shopify, and he spent years making life easier for small business owners. Then, a difficult journey to becoming a parent changed everything — from the way he leads people and the mission he works towards, to the way he approaches each moment with his kids.
Today, he's building Maple, an app that helps parents take the stress out planning and organizing their homes. It's a mission that's personal, and this time, he's aiming to lead his team from a place of empathy.
For this conversation, we're in Michael's home in Santa Barbara, California, where he lives with his wife and two young sons, talking about why, at this point in his life, he's only greedy for more memories with his kids. Make Yourself at Home with Michael Perry.

For years, Steve Schlafman envisioned success as an investor — and then, at the height of his VC career, just after he'd made partner at a multi-billion dollar firm, he walked away. The move opened up a world of other "possible selves," and now, Steve sees himself as a husband, a father, a cook and a lifelong learner, rather than just a worker.
Today, as a professional coach and as the creator of the podcast and newsletter Where the Road Bends, Steve draws on his own experience to help high performers navigate transitions and find their next calling.
It sounds like a professional shift, but Steve says this transition has affected every aspect of his life — and that it all started at home.
For this conversation, we’re in Steve Schlafman’s home in upstate New York, where Steve and his family are moving full time after 15 years in New York City, talking about holistic ambition, the moments that led Steve to his own "next calling," and how his home has played a central role in reshaping his life. Lindsay Shookus spent 20 years — her entire adult life so far — booking hosts and helping guests feel at home at Saturday Night Live. She landed the job right out of college, and it shaped not only her professional path, but her life outside of work, as well. Now, after leaving SNL 9 months ago, she's adjusting to a completely different lifestyle (with the perk of making plans on Saturday nights) and writing her own new chapter.
For this conversation, we're in Lindsay's home in New York City, talking about being present and welcoming her daughter home from school, reclaiming her Saturday nights and reframing her sense of identity. She shares how she honed her ability to make people feel comfortable and confident, what success looks like to her now vs. 20 years ago, and why she's channeling her passion for helping others into something new: Women Work F#cking Hard, a community she co-founded with her best friend Kristin O'Keeffe Merrick. Katie Hoff went to her first Olympic Games in Athens at the age of 15. She’s won 8 World Championships and 3 Olympic medals, and she spent years breaking world records and being heralded as the female Michael Phelps. After decades competing on the world stage, she knows a lot about extraordinary pressure.
Now, as a mentor, keynote speaker and bestselling author, she helps other people turn that pressure into fuel — whether they’re striving for gold medals and national championships or working towards a promotion at work.
In this episode of Make Yourself at Home, Katie shares how she translates the process that helped her find unshakeable confidence in swimming to other arenas, and why she's passionate about helping other people push back against nerves to achieve their goals. John Andrew Entwistle is on a mission to help people find their happy place.
And for the Wander Founder & CEO, it's a mission that feels personal.
John Andrew started his first company at just 13 years old, and launched his second, Coder, right out of high school. Over the next 5 years, he became a Thiel Fellow and was named alongside his Coder co-founders to Forbes 30 Under 30. When he stepped down to Coder’s board in 2021, he took some time away to ask himself, what’s next?
That question — and that trip, where he stayed in a sub-par short-term rental — sparked the idea for Wander.
Now, less than a decade after graduating from high school, John Andrew says he’s building the company he wants to work on until he’s old and gray.
For this conversation, we're in John Andrew's home in Austin, TX, talking about the road less taken, how he’s guided by a set of rules he wrote down as a kid, and what shapes his idea of a meaningful life. Make Yourself at Home with John Andrew Entwistle.

During Covid, she started a project called, 100 Women in 100 Days, asking each person, “what’s in your worry box?”
She says, in both work and home, her values are the same — she’s motivated by the hard, and she’s always looking for depth and meaning.

You know Nicole Ryan from SiriusXM Hits 1, where she co-hosts The Morning Mash Up with Ryan Sampson and Stanley T Evans. You may have also heard her podcast, Have Kids, They Said, where she and co-host Rich Davis get personal and laugh about the realities of parenting, or seen her hosting a red carpet or appearing on shows like Good Morning America.Nicole never pictured a career in front of a microphone — she took a job as a receptionist in the early days of Sirius Satellite Radio, made the most of every opportunity, and soon, found herself on the radio. Over the years, between her signature What’s Trending segments and interviews with top artists like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, huge moments in Nicole’s own life have played out on the air, like getting engaged to husband Matt Ryan and going into labor with her second child.
Most recently, Nicole was bolstered by the support from her “Mash Up family” after she was hit by a car while riding her scooter in New York City. When she returned to the radio earlier this week after 15 days in the hospital, she said messages of encouragement from listeners gave her the strength she needed.
“I really do believe that is what got me out of the hospital so quickly,” she said on The Morning Mash Up.
We're glad to share that Nicole is back at home with her loved ones, and she's expected to make a full recovery.
For this episode of Make Yourself at Home, which was recorded before the accident, we're in Nicole's apartment in NYC, talking about the ups and downs of bringing millions of listeners into your personal life, and what she’s learned from Ed Sheeran about focusing on what’s most important. Sasha Cohen is known for her incredible figure skating career. She's a 6-time medalist at the US Championships, with a gold medal in 2006, and a 3-time medalist at the World Championships, but she spent 20 years laser-focused on one goal: winning gold at the Olympic Games.
She went to the Olympics in 2002 and 2006, first as a rising star, then as the favorite. And after falling in the first two jumps of her long program, she left Torino with a silver medal — a moment she says she's still processing.
Today, Sasha has a totally different career, a passion for investing and entrepreneurship, and two kids under the age of three. But she says those two decades of skating serve as the foundation for who she is.

Al Doan and his sister had always talked about starting a business together, and for years they wondered, "what if, what if, what if?" When he lost his job in 2008, they decided to give it a try — and ended up building the largest quilting company in the world.
Today, the Missouri Star Quilt Company is a $100 million business, Hamilton, MO is a destination for quilters, and Al’s mom Jenny is referred to as the most famous quilter in the world, with hundreds of millions of hits on her YouTube tutorials.

At work, Katelin is rewriting how companies think about belonging and being people-first, and at home, she’s just like the people on the other end of the changes she’s making. Ruth Zukerman is a force in the fitness industry known for co-founding SoulCycle and Flywheel Sports, and for creating the communities that made them take off.
But Ruth never imagined starting a business, let alone two of the biggest names in fitness. She first started taking spin classes as she was going through a divorce, and quickly found how empowering they could be. She became an instructor at the Reebok club and built a loyal following, and in 2006, co-founded SoulCycle at the age of 48. Just a few years later, she left to start Flywheel Sports, one of SoulCycle’s first competitors — but there’s a lot more to the story. As SoulCycle became a cult phenomenon, Ruth’s partnership with her cofounders fell apart — a moment that hit hard personally, and left Ruth feeling betrayed and stuck.
During this conversation in her home in New York City, Ruth shares that story and other challenging moments that she’s learned to see in a positive light, how her setbacks have paved the way for her success, and why today, she feels more comfortable in her own home and in her own skin than she ever has before. Make Yourself at Home with Ruth Zukerman.

Dr. Wendy Borlabi is a renowned sports psychologist who today serves as the first Director of Performance and Mental Health the Chicago Bulls have ever had. Before moving to Chicago in 2016, she worked with Olympic athletes in San Diego, and she's an expert at helping athletes achieve their goals.
But a powerhouse career was never a goal of her own. She wanted to play basketball, and become a mom. After college, she fell into sports psychology serendipitously, and her career took off. Then, a health scare put things into perspective — and set off a sea of change in her life that would lead her to have twins, move to Chicago, and land a job with the Bulls she says felt meant to be.
For this conversation, we're in Wendy's home in Chicago, Illinois, talking about finding her confidence, solo parenting, and why she always trusts her gut instinct. Make Yourself at Home with Dr. Wendy Borlabi.

Tara Williams had always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur, but her million dollar idea came out of challenge in her personal life, at the worst possible time to start a business.
She and her husband had both lost their jobs, just as they gave birth to their fourth child. To add insult to injury, baby #4 wouldn’t sleep — until Tara had the idea for a weighted sleep sack.
That idea helped everyone in the house finally get some sleep, but Tara wouldn’t rest until thousands of families like hers could access her invention. Two years of sacrifice and one episode of Shark Tank later, Dreamland Baby took off in 2020, and this year, the company is on track to do $22 million in revenue.
For this conversation, we're in Tara's home in Danville, California, talking about why Tara pursued her dream at the worst possible time, the reality of "having it all," and why she believes success is a life of gratitude. Make Yourself at Home with Tara Williams.

As the EVP, Brand at goop, Noora Raj Brown is always on — ready to take the heat and help the brand push the conversation forward. She's led communications for Gwyneth Paltrow's modern lifestyle startup since 2016, working on campaigns like "the diapér" and the "Hands Off My Vagina" candle in partnership with the ACLU.
For years, she was the first to raise her hand for a work trip, and she was focused on her next title, her next career move. But in 2020, a challenge in Noora's personal life started to change how she thinks about goals in work and in life, when she and her husband were told they couldn’t have kids. Then, after a tough round of IVF, a global pandemic, and an unexpected gift from a friend, they welcomed their daughter, Lily, and Noora shifted how she thinks about her North Star.
For this conversation, we're in Noora's home in Pacific Palisades, California, talking about why "there's no time for sad sushi," how she found a sense of belonging after years of transience, and how to recognize that you have enough, when there's so much you can want. Nyakio Grieco launched her first brand, nyakio Beauty, more than 20 years ago, working relentlessly to bring her grandparents' beauty secrets to the U.S. Then, in 2020, Nyakio built on her own experience and created new opportunity for founders like her, when she co-founded Thirteen Lune, the e-commerce platform dedicated to the discovery of beauty brands created by Black and Brown founders that resonate with people of all colors. And in 2022, she launched a new clean, inclusive skincare brand — Relevant: Your Skin Seen.
Nyakio is a force in the beauty industry, but she says she struggled with imposter syndrome, and embraced the title "entrepreneur" later on in her career. She's a former chronic people pleaser who's learned how to say no and prioritize what matters most. And she's a mom of 2, who says home is her happy place.
For this conversation, we're in Nyakio's home in Los Angeles, talking about learning to operate from a place of confidence, why she's dedicated to lifting up other women (and how she's supported by her own powerhouse group of girlfriends), and how rest, family time and gratitude fuel her success. You know Loren Brill Castle as the founder of Sweet Loren's — the #1 natural cookie dough brand found in 15,000 supermarkets across the United States.
But she never planned to disrupt the cookie dough aisle. At 22 years old, just after Loren graduated from college, she was diagnosed with cancer, and had to spend the next year going through treatment. She channeled all her energy into getting healthy, and along the way, developed a clean cookie dough recipe that even her picky eating little sister couldn’t get enough of. A year after her diagnosis, she was cancer free, and set out to live a life without regrets.
For this conversation, we're in Loren's home in Los Angeles, CA, talking about choosing which road to take when bad things happen, how to find work-life balance when your company’s mission is incredibly personal to you, finding a partner who understands the life of an entrepreneur, and what Loren has learned about living well on her path to success. Adrian Grenier had "made it." After his leading role in HBO's Entourage and the success of films like The Devil Wears Prada and Drive Me Crazy, he'd found success, fame, money. And yet, it wasn't enough. He was always striving for more — until his then-girlfriend Jordan ended their relationship and set off a chain reaction that changed his life completely.
Adrian left Hollywood in 2020, and today, he spends his time farming — living at what he calls, “earth speed.” He’s created Earth Speed Media, a hub for education and inspiration around land stewardship, and DuContra Ventures, which makes impact investments in companies that aim to improve the human condition and benefit the planet. He’s even the Chief Earth Advocate for the space tourism company World View. But at the heart of all of this work is Adrian's newfound sense of home.
For this conversation, we’re at Kintsugi Ranch — Adrian's farm in Bastrop, Texas — talking about why he feels so much more at home here than in Hollywood, how his views on money and success have changed, why he feels his now-wife Jordan is his soulmate, sent to shake up his life. Make Yourself at Home with Adrian Grenier.

Kate Torgersen doesn't believe in work-life balance — she believes in work-life complexity.
As the Founder and CEO of Milk Stork, the first breast milk shipping company, she's helped thousands of parents achieve their goals, both personally and professionally. And she says if she hadn't been a mom — specifically, to twins — she would never have become an entrepreneur.
Kate had the idea for Milk Stork on her first business trip after giving birth to twins, when she was stopped at TSA and forced to dump out the ice for two gallons of breast milk. With three kids under 3 and a full-time job at Clif Bar, she started building Milk Stork at night, during her pumping sessions. Since 2015, the company has completed more than 82 thousand deliveries and shipped more than 5 million ounces of breast milk — including 21 gallons for athletes and other parents working at the 2021 Olympic Games.
For this conversation, we’re in Kate Torgersen’s home in Lafayette, California, talking about committing to a new business while standing on a pile of hot wheels, what her home means to her, and why there's no doubt Kate's work and home have had an incredible impact on each other.

You know Danielle Canty as the Co-Founder and President of bossbabe, one of the largest communities of ambitious women and female entrepreneurs in the world — and you might’ve heard her on the bossbabe podcast, which she hosts with her co-founder Natalie Ellis. Today, bossbabe is a multi-million dollar company that's helped over 100,000 women reach their goals, but just 3 years ago, it was just an idea — and Danielle had a completely different life.
She was living in the UK, where she grew up, she was married to her college boyfriend, and she had a successful career as a chiropractor and owner of her practice. She had built the life she felt she was "supposed to build," and yet, something didn't feel right. Now, after moving halfway around the world, navigating a tough divorce, and rewiring how she thinks about time and success, she’s starting to build a life she loves.
For this conversation, we're in Danielle's home in Los Angeles, talking about how her home affects her mindset, why she always curates a place where she can be still, and how envisioning a new path for herself and starting a company she believed in changed everything about her life outside of work. Lalo CEO & Co-Founder Greg Davidson says his life is a cyclone. In 2019, he and Michael Wieder officially launched Lalo — the baby and toddler brand known for its beautifully designed high-chairs, play tables and strollers — just before the pandemic. The brand took off, and in 2021, grew by 400%.
At the same time, Greg's life at home was changing just as quickly. Greg and his wife got married 6 months before they launched Lalo. Their first child was born in 2020, and their second was born earlier in 2022. Today, he's his own customer (and finally understands why his coworkers used to rush home for bath time).
For this conversation, we're in New York City, talking about starting a baby brand before Greg was a parent, choosing a life of chaos as an entrepreneur, and taking the time to live in the moment and give yourself the "30,000 foot view."
Follow along with Greg and the Lalo team at meetlalo.com and on LinkedIn, and check out his book for kids, A Little Book About Home.

Kara Goldin is the founder of Hint — the brand known for its leading unsweetened flavored water. But before it became a household name, it was just an idea in her kitchen. In 2004, the former AOL exec had three kids under the age of 4. She was drinking 10 diet sodas a day, and found she had no energy, was 45 pounds overweight, and struggled with acne. One day, she cut diet soda out of her life completely, and switched to water with a bit of fruit to keep it interesting. Three months later, her acne was gone, she’d lost 40 pounds, and she was bursting with energy — which she channeled into turning her not-boring but still healthy beverage into a business.
At every stage, her life at home and her passion for disrupting the beverage industry fueled each other. She stocked her first products on the shelves the day she had her 4th child. Her kids sold early cases of Hint in her driveway. The family stocked palettes in the garage, and delivered orders in their Jeep. And Kara and her husband Theo Goldin worked together to grow the company, as CEO and COO.
For this conversation, we’re in Kara’s home in Marin County, California, talking about finding humor in things that are hard, what her kids learned from watching their parents launch Hint, and how big moments in Kara’s work and personal life tended to happen all at the same time. Make Yourself at Home with Kara Goldin.

Frédéric Fekkai is known for being a celebrity hair stylist, and for reinventing the hair salon when he launched his “day spa” at Bergdorf Goodman. For decades, he’s styled the biggest stars at busy salons in New York City and Hollywood, including Claudia Schiffer, Demi Moore and Martha Stewart. But today, as he leads his hair care brand FEKKAI to a cleaner, more sustainable future, he gets creative in a different environment — his home.
For this conversation, we’re in Frédéric’s home in Greenwich, CT, talking about his winding path to success, and how his life at home has changed every step of the way. We cover how his modest upbringing in France influenced his creativity, where he gets his sense of gratitude, and why he’s edited his priorities over time. Make Yourself at Home with Frédéric Fekkai.
