The magic of colors and music will fuse in a stunning display at âKaleidoSkate,â the 56th annual Northbrook-On-Ice show over Motherâs Day weekend. This yearâs production will feature four shows May 8 through May 10, with about 275 skaters from the Northbrook Park Districtâs skating school and freestyle ice programs.

The MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition is a free event on April 24, 2026 for softball and baseball players ages 7 to 14 hosted by the Northbrook Park District. Local winners go on to compete at the regional level before a Major League Baseball game and regional winners get an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the finals during a World Series game.

The extensive renovation of West Park in Northbrook is scheduled to begin in mid to late May with completion in fall. Construction staging will begin on the tennis courts at West Park beginning the week of April 27. The $1.9 million project is funded by the Districtâs capital reserve fund and a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant.

In March, the Northbrook Park District will bring back the Youth Punt, Pass and Kick Challenge, a football skills competition for children ages 6 to 14. The event on March 8 will give participants the chance to showcase their football abilities in a non-contact environment.

The Northbrook Park District offers dozens of summer camp options for children ages 3 to 14, including arts, theater, dance, chess, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, skateboarding, ice skating, hockey and golf. Camps cover nine weeks of summer, with pre-season camps in early June and post-season camps through mid-August.

The annual Light Up the Night family dance will be back Friday, February 6 at a new high-end venue. The Northbrook Park District was awarded a $600,000 grant through the stateâs Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program for renovations at Techny Prairie Park and Fields. The grant will allow the Park District to upgrade many of the park amenities that were built in 2006 and are now reaching the end of their useful life.

Families are invited to a Summer Camp Open House from 5:30 to 7pm on January 15 at Techny Prairie Activity Center, located at 180 Anets Drive in Northbrook. Last year, Ryan Dolin tried a new approach while coaching football to 10-year-olds: he told them the coaches would just sit on the bench and watch. For that game, the kids got to call their own plays, as the quarterback led the offense and a linebacker guided the defense. Dolin is the Northbrook Park District's 2025 Coach of the Year.

The Northbrook Park District has received the Government Finance Officers Associationâs Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 25th consecutive year. The award, which the park district has earned annually since 2000, goes to state and local governments that adhere to the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

The annual family event starts at 4pm on Saturday, August 17 at Village Green Park in downtown Northbrook. Children can test their running and biking skills at the Northbrook Park Districtâs 11th annual Kidsâ Duathlon taking place Friday in Northbrook. The event is open to children ages 5 to 14 and takes place from 6-9pm on Friday at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome and includes post-race pizza, drinks and dessert, plus admission to nearby Meadowhill Aquatic Center. The park district is currently hiring for the next Adventure Campus session, which offers supervised activities for children in kindergarten through 5th grade from late August to early June. Starting pay is $15 to $20 per hour and benefits include parks and recreation perks, such as a free pool pass, free gym membership, golf play and more. New hires are eligible for $700 in bonus pay if they can begin work at 2:30 p.m., work five days a week and apply before July 9.

The Northbrook Park District is partnering with the nonprofit Wright-Way Rescue to host "Pup-Lick Skate," a special public skate and puppy adoption event on Saturday, June 29. Whether youâve never taken a swing, want to host a unique event or practice with teammates, the Northbrook Park Districtâs batting cages are the best place to hit a baseball this summer. The facility at Techny Prairie Park and Fields features six batting cages with machines that pitch baseballs. Four of the machines can also pitch 12-inch softballs.

The magic of Northbrook-On-Ice is coming back this weekend to the Northbrook Park Districtâs Sports Center, with performances from May 10-12. New this year is a special sensory friendly performance on May 9, designed for audiences who want a quieter and less bright, but still dazzling, version of the show. About 260 talented skaters, from toddlers to high schoolers, will glide and spin on the ice to this yearâs theme, âSkate to Paradise,â transporting audiences on a warm tropical vacation with beachy tunes evoking the palm trees and blue skies of the Caribbean.

Debbie Stoery has trained figure skaters who went on to compete in the Olympics and others who were the first in the world to perform technical elements in competition. And yet, Stoery says, her greatest achievement in her 53 years as a professional figure skating coach has been teaching life skills to hundreds of students, mostly at the Northbrook Sports Center.

The project, which affects the water wells and irrigation systems at Heritage Oaks Golf Club and Anetsberger Golf Course, was approved by the park districtâs board of commissioners in the fall.

Sadly, a burr oak tree had to be removed Tuesday from Village Green Park. Arborists from SavATree Nels Johnson Tree Experts were called to remove the damaged branches, and they determined that the top of the main leader, or tree stem, had a substantial amount of rot and was not structurally sound.
