Expect to hear new music ranging from soul, funk, jazz, hip hop, house and broken beat. With a smattering of classics and reissues thrown in for good measure. It may be a little late but this is technically January's edition of The GrownSoul Show.

The month seemed to have got away from me so I decided to approach this show a little differently. Instead of pulling together all of my favourite new releases from the past month or tracks I'd been thinking about playing on the show, this month is mainly me un packing my playing out bags from the weekend.

The first hour and half is full of vocal, Soul numbers, some new and some tried and tested dancefloor favourites. The last hour delves into the more electronic side of things. Including a track from the brilliant new Bonobo album, a lovely new release from All Day I Dream and a classic track off the fantastic album, Mare from Christian Löffler.

There is minimal chat in the show as I was trying to put records away (and failing miserably) but hopefully the selections speak for themselves.

There's a full tracklist below and as always feel free to get in touch if you want to know more.

I've been meaning to record another show for the past 2 months. In that time, I've been putting records for the show to one side. It got to a point where there's about 6 hours worth, so I thought it was about time I sat down and pressed record.

The first half of the show has a good mixture of music from the UK, US, Italy, Colombia, Africa, Cuba and Germany.

The second half moves into more upbeat dancefloor territory with a mix of 80's Boogie, Brit Funk, Soul and some Jazz Dance edits from across the globe.

It's really difficult to pick a record or an album of the month as there's too much good music to choose from. So have a listen and let me know yours!

It's back, after a brief hiatus in August whilst I tried to get used to weekly hustle of packing and unpacking records. This month’s edition of The GrownSoul Show marks its first birthday and has a slightly more up tempo/party feel. There’s a whole heap of new stuff, some well-loved classics and as always I try (being the operative word) to float through a variety of genres.

My album of the month for this show is a fantastic release on Sola Terra records by Josef Akin called Flightcase. I think I’ve been listening to it constantly for the past two months and pretty sure I will be for months/years to come. Another record worth a notable mention is Billy Cobham, Drum ‘N Voice Remixed 2. The Local Artist remix of Let Me Breath blew me away when I first heard and has continued to do so. Whenever I listen to it, I just shut my eyes and imagine I’m dancing in a field or a forest somewhere.

It’s a little late this month, things have been brewing and it’s the day before the long awaited “freedom day”.

The sun was shining bright, without a cloud in the sky. A calm breeze gently kissed my skin as I flicked through records in the midday sun, It seemed like the perfect opportunity to fill up a record bag and record this month’s edition of the GrownSoul Show.

It's a little more off the cuff than normal, with a few more tempo shifts. There's been so many great records released since the last show it was a struggle to fit them all in. There’s the long anticipated releases’ from Hiatus Kaiyote and Annuska. Some stone cold (or maybe red hot) summer Classic’s from Roy Ayers and The New Rotary Connection. I’ve delved into some disco fuelled afro beat and jazzy house, a sprinkling of HipHop (that’s where it all started for me) plus some delightful 7’s I can’t wait to play out.

On Saturday 24th July I return to my longstanding residency at The Three Wise Monkey’s Colchester. If you’ve listened to any of these shows, fancy a night out, come down and say hello. If there is particular record you would like to hear from any of these shows then just drop me a message on the socials.

Thank you for listening, reading and supporting.

Welcome Along, It's June!

Which means it's Prince's birthday, Black Music Month (which for me is every month) & Pride.

Without really realising it, I kinda think this shows celebrates all of those things. It's about Inclusion, it's about being able to be who you are, it's about music from across the globe and hopefully it's about giving you a little feelgood.

I feel like I have neglected the type of Funk and Soul music I would perhaps play out, so this month it starts with a really healthy dose. There's some fantastic new jazz from Rebecca Vasmant and Ruby Rushton. A track from  two  incredibly important albums from Sons Of Kemet, Black To The Future and Adrian Younge's American Negro.

There's not that much chat about the music but I will post a full tracklist on my social media pages and on my mixcloud account, link below.

https://www.mixcloud.com/CantCutCarwyn/the-grownsoul-show-june-2021/

Thank you for listening, I really enjoyed recording this show, perhaps a little too much as I spent more time singing and dancing rather than chatting about the records!

Before we go forward we go back.

This month's show is pretty much a collection of records which have made their way from the shelves into the living room. It's a bit of a tidying up exercise, if you will. Which provides a good insight to what I've been listening to since the last show.

There's some great new releases from Alfa Mist, The VV Experience, MdCL, Dego, Tom Caruana and Simbad. The Alfa Mist album, Bring Backs, is probably my album of the month.

As we move closer to being able to venture out and dance, there's also a few, Funk, Rare Groove and Boogie classics to try and add a little taste of the dance floor.

Thank you for listening, full tracklisting will be on my Mixcloud page link below;

Welcome Along, It's another edition of The GrownSoul Show.

First off, if you're reading this thankyou, if you're listening thank you very much!

This month's show has a worldwide feel, some carnival vibes and festival feels. There's some sunrise or sunset soundtracks, some records at the more "clubier" end of the spectrum and of course a few classics for good measure.

I hope you enjoy and I hope there's something to make you a little emotional. After all that's what music is about!

A full track list will be available on my mixcloud page, link below;

https://www.mixcloud.com/CantCutCarwyn/the-grownsoul-show-april-2021/

Until next month!

And Just like that we’re into March! Almost a year of lockdowns and restrictions have passed….. both in the UK and worldwide.

But we’re still here, still ready to stand up for ourselves and more importantly each other.

The gradual hope of freedom returning slowly begins to bubble and hope’s cousin, anxiety, is also trying to stick its head round the corner.

What if I haven’t achieved as much as everyone else when I see them again. What do I have to show for my 51 weeks (and counting….) without being able to go to the pub, football, festival, dance or club…

The biggest asset we have is the ability to listen, to the good the bad and the cringe worthy.

We are all humans; we all have flaws, and the idealist world of social media isn’t the real world. You are the real world; you are what matters. The ear will always be mightier than the mouth.

This show is for you, this show is for everyone that’s messaged, text, called and all the people that have smiled from across the road.

Thank you.

There's limited, tune chat and info in this months episode but there is a full track listing on my Mixcloud page, link Below;

https://www.mixcloud.com/CantCutCarwyn/the-grownsoul-show-march-2021/

As always I appreciate your time, your messages and support. See you next month.

It's back, February's edition of The GrownSoul Show.

January wasn't a quiet month for new releases, for long. Soon after the last show they quickly started rolling in. I've tried to play as many of them as possible in February's Show as well a little nod to a couple great Djs and producers we sadly lost recently. Plus you can't do anything to do with music in February and not make reference to J Dilla

It's been a cold old couple of days so I have tried to warm things up a little with some latin and afro beat inspired tracks. There's a track from the new Femi & Made Kutti album, one from the fantastic Invisible Session's Album Echo's of Africa, some greta new disco edits and some jazz fuelled house.

This show is a little bit of a mish-mash so I appreciate you sticking with it and listening.

There will be a full track listing up on my Mixcloud page link below;

Or you can always get in touch via the various social media channels. Until next month.

Happy New Year, one and all! Welcome along to January 2021's edition of The GrownSoul Show.

There are never very many new releases out this time of year, it's a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon so I thought I'd pack a bag full of records as if I was playing an afternoon set out and see what happened.

Well this happened....

There's a nice selection of classic Soul, Disco, Boogie and two step. Some real mellow numbers, a touch of Jazz and I had to play a few MF Doom related tracks. The full tracklist will be available on my Mixcloud page, link below;

https://m.mixcloud.com/CantCutCarwyn/

Some of the records are quite old and my not be in the best condition, so there may be a few more pops/crackles than normal. Regardless of that I hope there's some for everybody to nod their head, tap their feet, sing along or just close there eyes and imagine they're somewhere else too.

Hope to join you all on a dance floor somewhere at sometime this year.

Lots of Love X

Welcome along to December's edition of The GrownSoul Show. The year is slowly drawing to a close but there's no let up in the constant stream of high quality records being released.

I had a tough time trying fit in all the tracks I want to so is a little longer than previous episodes. There's some wonderful new UK soul music from Samii and Demae. A genre bending Jazz fuelled new release from The Comet Is Coming plus a track from the wonderful Str4ta album.

Seen as it would be the party season there's a few disco edits thrown in for good measure to. The full tracklist can he found on my Mixcloud page, link below;

https://www.mixcloud.com/CantCutCarwyn/

Last but certainly not least thank you to everyone who has got in contact, streamed, downloaded and shared. I'm still quite new to this and am well aware there's quite a few technical issues so thank you for sticking with it, it's all work in progress.

I hope everyone has a wonderful  Christmas and a much happier new year. See you all on the other side.

Another month, another edition of The GrownSoul Show.

It's been another month with so many wonderful records released. Some fantastic albums, re-issues, remixes and re-edits. This months show has old bits, new bits but they're all GrownSoul bits. I hope I've managed to strike a good balance between old and new, records I'd play at home and records I'd play out.

There's a good helping of Disco this week, a splash of hiphop and a large slab of Jazz. London Jazz Festival is happening this week and I really wanted to showcase the amazing talent the UK has to offer.

My Album of the month so far is Ambrosia by Byron The Aquarius. It's been on repeat and something you all need to listen to from front to back.

Theres a few mic issues this month so apologies for the feedback. The show will be archived on mixcloud with a full tracklisting. Link below.

Thank you for you ears. Please feel free to hit me up on social media if you want any more info or have any recommendations. Until next month.

Welcome along to October's edition of The GrownSoul Show. There have been some great records released since last month's edition. I have tried to squeeze as many of them into two hours as possible, plus a few classics to provide a little balance.

There is some great jazz, funk and boogie from Italy. Some new and old soul from Holland, Hawaii and Nigeria. A track taken from the wonderful new Greg Blackman album GB4 and some jazz infused HipHip (or HipHop infused Jazz) from the US, London, Bristol and Cologne.

And also a lovely track from the genre defying album, Tresilian Bay by Huw Marc Bennet.

The show will be achieved in the link below with a full track listing (as soon as I get round to typing it up).

Thank you for listening, I really enjoyed recording this and after a couple of gins it felt like you were all in the room with me.

The GrownSoul Show - So Much More Than Soul.

A monthly show delving in to the depths of my record collection, bringing you a selection of new, old, re-issued and any other records I have left out.

A two hour journey through soul, jazz, disco, house, broken beat and hiphop, plus anything in-between. Trying not to be defined by genre or boundaries just music I feel is good for the soul.
