Our text today continues into Jesus’ sermon on what human flourishing should look like. Although the Church has divided and been divided over this passage, we see this passage as a pivotal teaching.
We believe that if the over 2 billion believers would read this text and live it out, our relationships and our world would be changed.
Our world desperately needs our communities to take this message beyond our nodding heads and into the hard places our hearts struggle to believe is possible.

This question has been asked, debated and expounded on for a very, very long time. It hinges on a verse in the Old Testament, Deuteronomy 24:1. Our two verses have a lot to say, and to dig into them we take a look at Matthew 19:1-9 to help unpack what Jesus is saying in both passages about divorce.

Get ready to jump into one of the most difficult parts of Matthew.
We are looking at a part of the bible that has been debated for quite sometime. We actually get a taste of this discord in Acts 15 as Paul and Barnabas began to address the question, What do we do with the law? Should believers have to follow the 613 commandments?
Before you answer, take note of Matt 5:19, Jesus states, "Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven..."

We continue in our series talking through the Doctrines of Grace. Last week we talked about Predestination and this week we are looking at Limited or Particular Atonement.
Put your thinking caps on as we are about to dive into a few weird stories that leads us to a better understanding of this often harder to understand doctrine.
As a church that is still learning how to walk together, we wanted to answer the question What it means to belong to the church by taking a look at 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 this week.
Psalm 119 encourages us through every generation to stay close and focused on His Word no matter what swirls around us in this world. Living in the freedom and knowledge of God’s ways, obeying His law above all else, and keeping in step with His commandments is the only way to truly live wise, strong lives.
We continue in the Psalms, with Al Macklin taking us through Psalm 27. David pens confidence and strength but then also fear and anxiety. This psalm helps mirror what we feel during difficult and perhaps dangerous times and gives us words and a posture towards the One who holds it all.
Lance Cosby takes us through Psalm 115 and helping us focus on what the psalmist was feeling and pointing to. This world is full of things that can pull us away from our God and often we find ourselves worshipping what we depend on that is often not God.

We’ll do anything but face the pain and heartache we feel." ~ Christina Fox, Ligonier MinistriesBrandon Southall helps us take a deeper look at Psalm 22 revealing its' pattern to deal with lament and it giving us evidence of our hope and faith in Jesus.
After the last 18 months Tim Tobey and his family has had, Psalm 43 has become very near to him. Tim breaks down the passage and shares insights he has gleaned from scripture and how God has walked with him through some major and tumultuous changes.
“The Alps, that lift their heads above the clouds are dust Compared with His divine immensity. The snow crowned summits fail to set Him forth. Depths unfathomed are too shallow to express the wisdom and the knowledge of the Lord. It is true the Lord has written his name on creation below, but as the skillful potter much excels the vessel which he fashions on the wheel, so greater far is Jehovah's self transcends his noblest works. Earth's wheels would break, her axles would snap, If freighted with the load of His Deity. Space is too narrow for the Eternal's rest, And time too short for his throne. Even avalanche and thunder lack a voice to utter the full volume of his praise. How then can I declare him? Where are words with which my glowing tongue may speak his name? Silent I bow, and humbly I adore....”

Ezekiel 16 is Sean's favorite chapter in the whole Bible. This passage sums up what we as Christians believe about the Bible; it is our stories and it is God's story.
This passage deals with some very mature content and subjects. The language and content may not be suitable for young ears.
With that said and this is our prayer with Charles Spurgeon who wrote “It is upon this melancholy subject that I am about to enter this morning; and may God grant unto all his people who shall feel convicted in their consciences...”

We do our best to represent the narratives that culture is saying about gender, we offer some critiques that come from people who support and also help with transitioning, and then we share what the Bible tells us about gender.

Last week we honed in specifically on how Paul feels about the Corinthian Church and being a pastor and what he thinks his role is.
But Paul had experienced some pain with the Corinthian church. Today we get to begin to understand the dynamics of this narrative, and the interactions that Paul calls the church to in moments of pain between people and what we are suppose to do.

Every commentary I read or sermon I listened to about this text kept going 'and to the pastors' or 'and to the elders of the church' over and over.
If we are going to recognize 2 Corinthians is a timely book for us for multiple reasons in regards to this cultural moment, in understanding who God is; We also recognize, as a young church it might be good from the jump to go:
'Well wait a minute, Sean, what is your role in my life and what's my role with you?'
And that is what this part of 2 Corinthians is going to do for us today."

Knowing Matters
Knowing God matters
Paul can only say 'I am faithful' because God is faithful, if Paul knows, God is faithful.
We've all heard,
You can know a lot things about God but that doesn't mean you know God.
As much as that is true, the inverse is also true
You cannot know God if you don't know about God.
You do not need to go to seminary or get a doctorate but the reality is
You cannot know God rightly, if you do not know him accurately.
So knowing matters."

We were originally going to cover 12 verses, but as I read verses 12, 13, 14 it became apparent that something we can easily gloss over was worth stopping on.
What Paul says casually, we miss deeply.
We are going to talk about how the world’s ideas and the church are starting to meld together a little bit.
There is something going on right now, in our cultural moment, specifically in the west, that we are finding ideologies creeping into the church. Worldly, man-made philosophies melding together with the way of the kingdom and we are calling it, mass producing it to the nations, Christianity. And I believe Paul is calling this out here.
