In this Podcast I run through the first two questions on the Higher Tier Specimen paper 1, 2018 Set 2. These two questions were common to both the Higher and Foundation papers, being questions 6 and 7 on the Foundation. Make notes as you listen, pause and look at what you got for each part of the question. There are some key phrases that we look for as examiners and some of these questions are classics that crop up all of the time. 

Q1 is the one about how length affects the resistance of a wire and includes how to use voltmeters and ammeters, what 'precise' means, why we calculate a mean average, the recall and use of the equation V=IR and reading a graph.

Q2 is the one about the radioactive decay of radium-226 and involves finding half-life, understanding why radioactivity is hazardous and the properties of alpha, beta and gamma radiation.

In this Podcast I go over 4 of the 21 equations that you need to learn for GCSE Physics. You must be able to write these down correctly and use them to solve problems. Knowing what the letters mean and how they arranged in the equations will really help your understanding and ability to answer exam questions.

I will go over the equations for work done, power and the two ways of writing the efficiency equation. These equations are used to describe key areas of physics and lay the foundations for the work that we will do later in the electricity, particle model, atomic structure, forces, electromagnetism and, if you are doing the Triple Physics course, space as well. Understanding energy really is that important.

This is the second Examiner challenge question aimed at stretching you to achieve level 7-9 in science. Some of you are opting in to these challenges and doing the questions online as Microsoft Quizzes. When you have, these have been marked and the question and mark scheme has been sent to you, along with this Podcast. Here it is for everyone to listen to. Hopefully it will be useful, although it is even better if you have a go at the question first. At the moment I am sending these out as flexible tasks in Show My Homework so look out for them. They go out on a Monday and I mark them on and produce the Podcasts on Saturday morning.

This is the first Podcast going over challenging questions that I have been setting weekly. This first one is based on an AQA Paper 2 question on stopping distance. You really need to have a go at the question before listening, but if you haven't done it you might still learn something here to help your understanding. This was deliberately challenging and aimed at those students aspiring to levels 7-9 at GCSE.

In this podcast, I talk about how to find the density of regular and irregular objects. A couple of extra points: 
1. The dependent variables are always the ones you are measuring. In the experiment to find the density of an irregular object, this is the volume of displaced water. I talk about the displacement, or Eureka, can but this can also be done directly in a measuring cylinder holding a known amount of water which is your starting point. If it is big enough to allow the object to be put into the cylinder, the water will rise to a new level and the difference between that and the original level will be the volume of the object.
2. The 'independent variable' is the one you change. In this experiment it is the object.
3. You measure the mass using a top-pan balance. Examiners will accept 'mass balance' or even 'scales' but not scale.
