People think that they’re all about “self-expression,” and “I’ve just got to be me.” Sure, you should be you, but find out, who you are first. Don’t assume that what you are at present, under layers of acquired prejudice, acquired tendency and false ego, that false self, cocooning and enveloping the actual self, is the self that is worth all of this self-expression.

Śrīla Śrīdhar Mahārāja says, “Give heart, and receive heart.” That’s the most wonderful thing about Krishna consciousness. Not anticipating something else. Give heart, receive heart. In the presence of a superior experience, automatically inferior experience retreats. That’s the way, that’s the best. A higher taste—lower taste vanishes.

What is night for one is a time of awakening for another, and vice versa. It means, there’s a world, where someone is awake in that world, and everything is understandable, perceivable to them, and it’s like madness to ordinary people. But is it madness, or is it something substantial?

The greatest pain or greatest sorrow, according to Ramananda, is if you become separated from the devotee. So what he’s telling us, by inference, is: cause without that devotee you have no hope of Krishna connection.
Gurudev was so trusting, and that was so empowering. He said, “I don’t need to instruct my disciples. They know what to do. They know what is wrong, they know what is right.” And he was very hesitant to correct. He would give the devotees the opportunity to self-edit, to self-correct.

00:46:32 Mahāprabhu’s plan: how to deal with Kazi.
00:55:30 Considerations on taking sannyās.
Mahaprabhu will embrace the position of a sannyāsi, and He is mad after gopī-bhāva, so who is the crown jewel of sannyāsis—why is He obsessed with gopī-bhāva, the love possessed by Rādhārāṇī and the Vraja-gopīs for Krishna? So it is to show there isn’t even a remote trace of mundane aspects.
What is Krishna’s flaw—if He has one?—That He’s not a devotee.
If Krishna can be converted into a devotee—then who can not be converted into a devotee?—There is hope for everyone!
Why Mahaprabhu takes sannyās; Krishna as a devotee; guru-varga appears before Krishna; Advaita Acharya invites Mahaprabhu to descend; pastimes in Gaya; Nimai Pandit takes some dust from Īśvara Purī’s birthplace; the beginning of the preaching; growing renunciation; the students of Nimai Pandit; beginning of Nāma-saṅkīrtan; nocturnal kīrtans; dealing with Kazi; Narayani cries with Krishna-prem; to address Krishna is only through the Gopīs; considerations on taking sannyās; last evening in the house of Śachī Mātā asking Keśava Bharati for sannyās.

2020-12-04 • Q&A: In what mood to do seva? • B.S.Goswāmī Mahārāja • CNX • [en]
Q: In what mood to do seva? There are times when we have sinned a lot. And when the realization comes, we feel a lot of regrets. Krishna says that He can save us from the reactions of so many sins if we surrender fully. But, the thing is, after we can situate ourselves as the most fallen souls, we are no longer interested in being saved from the reactions of those sins. In some way, it is one reason for us to give the best of ourselves in seva, to do our best to please Krishna, but still it is not easy to come to terms that we could have sinned so much. (It is like the kind of feeling we have when we hurt our father and after realizing it, we will ask for forgiveness and do our best to please him all the time. But it is not until he has forgiven us that we can get rid of this guilt from our hearts and strengthen our bond with him). After realization of our sins, if we do seva with the mood of enjoying the transcendental bliss that we get while doing it, even then I do not feel that it is okay. So, what should we do in this case? In what mood to do seva? And if we do seva for the act of purifying ourselves, then also, it is like doing it for our own selfish motive, so, eventually, with what mood to do seva?
Seva is the mood. — Service: self-giving. — Adarshanam: whatever pleases Krishna—that’s what I want. — The holy name powered by heart. — For the holy name: no amount of sinfulness is too much. — Give up even dharma and just surrender to Krishna. — Uddhava observes braja-gopis’ devotion. — Volcanic eruptions of the heart. — Association is always the cure. — Reason to surrender. — To see through hearing. — Repurposing the senses. — Everything can be achieved by surrender. — Vaishnavas and service to them is transformatory. — Just stay connected. — The proper candidate for mercy. — The uncertainty principle: never think that you’re a devotee. — Self-oblivion: “It doesn’t matter about us.”
