Mitch McPherson

Get Frank will see me, your host, Mitch McPherson, engage in candid conversations with familiar, and some not so familiar faces and names.

We all have good days, bad days, and days in-between. “Get Frank” allows us to get to know people for who they really are.

Join me on a journey to showcase that no matter who you are or where you come from, we all quite simply want to feel the very best we can each day.

It took me a while to track down my next guest, proud Aboriginal man, singer and songwriter, Dewayne Everettsmith.

However, I finally found him and what a privilege it was to have him on Get Frank.

I have met Dewayne multiple times at events, he still to this day always delivers the most moving and beautiful welcome to country I have ever seen. His soft nature and amazing voice really does captivate you.

Dewayne was born in 1987 to a Mother with a drug addiction, he then had a strained relationship with those that adopted him, which lead to many challenges as a young Aboriginal man including anger issues.

Through all of this, the unconditional love received from his grandparents that guided him to a life of healing and fulfilment.

In this episode Dewayne shares all, talking about closing the gap, how we can learn more about aboriginal history, trauma from his upbringing, his love of music and how that saved him, racism, and the important work he does every day in our communities to educate and keep people safe.

What an amazing man Dewayne Everettsmith is!

An episode totally worth listening to, and one we should all pass on for our friends to hear!

Enjoy!

Co-hosting today was John X, and my good mate, Nick Paine!

Some good banter today, as I bring in one of my good mates who doesn't take himself very seriously at all!

My sporting ability was high on the agenda for Nick, we reflect on the passing of John Humphries, ANZAC Day, footy, special moments that have been hijacked, watching sex scenes on movies/tv shoes with your partner/family members, do you ask celebrities for photos, #John'sRant about those that don't respect shopping trolleys, the week ahead and much more.

I also wanted to dedicate this episode to Jo Harris who passed away this week from a battle with cancer. Jo bravely joined me (alongside her husband Scott) on a Get Frank episode a couple of months ago to share her battle, and her hope for cancer support here in Tasmania moving forward.

May you rest in peace, Jo! xStay safe everyone!

Such an honor to be joined by the current Jack Jumpers Co-CEO, Christine Finnegan.

Christine is an energetic and passionate sales and marketingprofessional with extensive experience within the sports and entertainmentsector.

Christine joined the Tasmania Jack Jumpers in August 2020 and has helpedbuild the strong and enviable JJ's brand into what it is today.

In this episode we talked about family, growing up in Canberra, her work in politics, recognising her passion for sport but not as a player, her time in large sporting organisations such as St Kilda, The Brumby's, Tennis Australia, we chat about being part of Melbourne Storm at the time of the salary cap disaster.

A large part of this chat was also around Christine's drive to see more women in executive leadership roles.

What are the barriers, how do we change it, and what Christine believes we can do to see the representation of women in key roles rise.

And of course, we talk all things Jack Jumpers!

Christine is a wonderful role model to all of us, but in particular to women and young girls all across the country.

Thank you for giving us an insight into your passions, challenges and things that make you smile!

Enjoy!

Matt wade is a professional cricketer who has played in all three formats for our National side. Predominately as a wicket keeper batsmen, Wade is a household name in not just Australia, but around the world for his passionate, and at times aggressive way he goes about his cricket.

On this episode we talked about the decision between footy and cricket as a youth, leadership and mentors, the importance of believing in yourself, who has been there for him in his career, challenges faced in losing Phil Hughes, testicular cancer, the importance of family, life outside of cricket, and of course, how he’s had fun along the way.

Grateful for Wadey giving up his time, as it is precious in between travel for cricket and family commitments.

Thanks for your openness, insights, and vulnerability, Wadey.

Goodluck in the upcoming IPL!

Peter, who is a well-known Tasmanian, shared with me his journey towards the top of his game, which is a wonderful insight into simply loving your job, and caring about each piece of work that you do.

It was a pleasure to unpack so much of Peter's highlights that include commentary at some of the world's largest sporting events, Meeting sporting superstars such as Greg Norman and Pele, to name a few.

But also, the tough times, a near death cycling experience that saw him have psychotic episodes and numerous visits to hospital.

Can I start by saying I had so much fun chatting to this guy - he really is a free spirit, and I just loved his approach to every part of the conversation.

For 158 days straight, Lewi Taylor climbed and conquered 158 of Tasmania’s most challenging mountains – the Abels – trekking alone through rain, hail, snow and blistering sun.

He hiked through Tasmania’s wilderness with a single-minded determination: to raise $158,000 to improve the fighting chances of all Tasmanians with cancer. He was inspired by his mother, who’d been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.

Lewi started his ‘158 Challenge’ in January 2022 and climbed the final peak, kunanyi, on 10 June, his 30th birthday. His goal was to raise $1000 each time he reached the top of Tasmania’s 158 Abels – mountains that peak above 1,100 meters with sheer drops from the summit.

Working with Cancer Council Tasmania, Lewi raised more than $167,000!

The funds will stay in Tasmania and contribute to cancer prevention education, research and support services, including the Cancer Council’s wig library and transport2treatment program.

What a legend this guy is, we talked and laughed about his comfort in the unknown, his love for Tasmanian landscape, his travel, his random ideas and passions, his dedication to being himself, and his love for his family and friends.

Loved this chat with Lewi Taylor!

Lou Calvert is a business owner, fitness guru, friend and lover of life.

What I discovered about Lou in this episode is that there is so much more to her than meets the eye. In fact, I couldn’t believe some of the challenges and adversity that Lou has faced throughout the course of her life.

From a brain hemorrhage at 7, to 21 broken bones, suicide bereavement, world record breaker, relationship challenges – we covered it all.

It was a pleasure to hear about what drives Lou, what saddens her, but most importantly, what motivates her.

It was also a pleasure to hear about the amazing way in which she has connected with Ryan Wiggins. Supporting him with his rehab after a devastating spinal cord injury 16 months ago.

Jo Harris was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer 3 years ago. Jo and her husband Scott had to travel to interstate to seek trial treatment that just wasn't available here in Tasmania.

The time spent travelling was less time for rest, and of course making memories with family and friends.

As Jo continues to fight, they have both taken on another challenge, joining forces with State Government, UTAS, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and cancer support group S.H.E to help develop and build a Cancer Research and Wellness Centre right here in Tasmania.

Scott and Jo have been the leaders on this, as they are driven to see change so that other families experiencing the same challenges, can face them right here in our own state.

In this episode, Scott and Jo open up on everything from facing cancer and the struggles that brings both physically and mentally. Their reasons around the drive to see a center set up here in Hobart, and we talk about the future and what other humps and hurdles might be on their way.

Make sure you also look out for the specially made Jack Jumpers jersey's this week (Jan 29), as the players wear "Teal" in support for the SHE Gynecological Cancer Group in their match here in Hobart - You can donate, visit the auction, and purchase virtual seats here - aus.givergy.com/TasmaniaJackJumpers

It was an absolute pleasure to have the recently crowned Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year Meriem Daoui on the podcast.

A Tasmanian marathon runner and registered nurse, Meriem uses her running as a way to do good and give back to so many others.

Born in Morocco, Meriem relocated to Tasmania at age 10 where she experienced racism and was bullied for wearing a hijab.
Anxiety, depression and eating disorders plagued her teenage years, but the support she received during her adversities inspired her to give back to the community.
Now 23, Meriem has also used marathons to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.
She most recently conquered the Everest challenge, running the Point-to-Pinnacle course, also known as the world’s hardest half-marathon, every day for one week.
The challenge raised over $12,000.

What a pleasure to hear about Meriem’s incredible life journey - Such an incredible story, at such a young age.

Meriem has won awards all over the place but on January 25 she may well become Young Australian of the Year – which I think she has a very BIG chance.

Adding to this, Mark has many other fascinating elements to him, he continues to face mental health challenges and be open about that, sadly also his Dad passed away this year after battling cancer. In his honor, we discuss how and why Mark cycled over 230 kilometers in a day.

Alec Balcombe is one man that knows grief and loss too well.

He lost his father at aged 11 to cancer, and then in 2014 lost his older brother Nick, to a stroke.

Shaped and molded forever by grief, absolutely! But what hasn’t been altered is Alec’s ability to work though all challenges thrown at him, all whilst ensuring his philanthropic mind allows him to grow for, he and his family.

This episode was fascinating to hear about the impacts of grief on the Balcombe family. How it changed people forever, how the dynamic on basic ways in which they lived, was altered.

Alec has been involved in many different business ideas and ventures, and his passion for evolving himself, and developing new and exciting things is very very cool.

I think though, one of the most amazing stories from this life is the creation (with friends and family) of a Foundation after the loss of his brother Nick.

The Nick Balcombe Foundation continues to not only showcase amazing up and coming Tasmanian music talent. But through the grant process makes dreams a reality – all exactly what Nick would have wanted, and what would be making him smile.

Alec doesn’t go back to these dark moments often, so I am grateful that on Get Frank he showed enormous courage and did so.

Thanks to you and your family Alec, keep living the positive and outgoing life you continue to work so hard for!

Melody Towns is the Founder of “Be hers”.

A social enterprise and registered charity that helps to raise money for victims of trafficking and educates people about the realities of slavery in the modern world.

After hearing a story at an event where a young girl was sold into slavery, Melody took it upon herself to help not only Tasmanians fight against this issue, but Australians to get on board and take note of this atrocity.

In this episode not only did Melody talk about her passion for this incredible organisation, but she shared about her own life, her family, her faith, but was also really open about her challenges and hurdles. Growing up in housing commission, living with and supporting her Mum who has faced many life challenges for over 20 years, Melody’s life is hard to not be inspired by.

So grateful for Melody’s openness, her raw insight to her world, but most importantly for sharing her passion and dedication for something she truly believes in.

Please be kind to yourself listening to this episode, some of the details shared are at times difficult to hear - remember Lifeline is available 13 11 14.

Royce Fairbrother is the Founder of Fairbrother Construction. A man that started this business (with his wife Thea) in 1972, and therefore recently celebrated an incredible 50 years of business. From a small farm in the states Northwest, we discussed buying his first shed in 1972, to now having over 300 staff and being one of the state's leading construction businesses. Royce talks about Fairbrother's guiding principles, and how they are the driving force behind the organisations ongoing success. Something he leads by example with and knows that they are one of the biggest keys to safe and secure growth. Royce opened up on one of his greatest life challenges, which was understanding that his mature aged son had schizophrenia. 25 years ago, navigating mental health issues had its own set of challenges, but it was that challenge that shifted Royce's thinking and the way he viewed mental health as a whole. But through that challenge (with the help of his staff) Royce and Thea developed the Fairbrother's Guiding Principles and Mission Statement - all of which, and above all else, puts people and their wellbeing first. We spoke about the importance of honesty and integrity, always keeping your feet on the ground, the importance of community contribution, what inspires him, and of course, the importance of family support. I have always been inspired by Royce's zest for life, and his passion for people, so it was an honor to have Royce agree to sit down with me. Enjoy!

This weeks topics focused on a couple of recent studies unveiled over the weekend.

Of course, we had some (serious) input, and of course shared our own examples to lead by and to learn from...

John X is currently one of Tasmania’s most prominent and prolific actors and performers. A popular MC and guest speaker, he is a veteran of over 120 shows including Uni Revues, musicals and shows in the Botanical gardens every year.

An ABC Local Radio presenter, John has appeared on film, TV and radio in various forms.

John is charitable, funny, a family man, and just a ripping Tasmanian so I was thrilled to have him join Get Frank to talk about his life.

We spoke about charity work, performing, stories of failing, family and the importance of it.

We could have spoken for hours so this episode is action packed!

My greatest take away from this episode is that John always remains true to himself, but all whilst being respectful and considerate to those around him... as much as possible!!!

Ripping guy!

Enjoy my last episode of season 1 with John X!

Jamie Needham is an F45 owner here in Tasmania. He is outgoing, a lover of life and a good time.

Basically, Jamie has always lived life on the edge.

But in 2020 everything changed we he had an accident whilst riding his motor bike on a race track travelling at 1500kmph.

Jamie fractured his T2, T2, T3, T4, C3, C4 and C7 vertebrae's, 3 ribs and suffered an incomplete central spinal cord injury.

Jamie’s remarkable fightback and recovery is something to admire.

In this episode Jamie shares with me about his life in the fast lane prior to his accident, how he came about to be an F45 owner and the world of being in the fitness industry. We spoke about the way his life has changed since the accident with work, relationships and things that previously came easy to him.

We also got an insight into his recent trip to the US for stem cell treatment, and what he wants for his future.

Jamie now sees the world in a different light, he wants people to be more compassionate and patient with those around us that might be a little less fortunate - a good learning for us all.

Thanks for letting the Get Frank family into your world Jamie!

Sarah De Jonge is the Founder of 1000 Hearts which is a global kindness community here in Tasmania. Which Sarah said she simply created because she felt the world needed a bit of love – how right she was!

To start off, Sarah stitched 1000 pocket hearts to be given away as a random act of kindness.

However, she then started getting messages from people who had receiving them telling her the positive difference that small gesture had made.

People asked her for additional hearts, and it snowballed where the idea of making a heart and sending it to someone really grew.

Because of Sarah’s small act of love, 1000 Hearts is now a widely loved and ever-growing community of people across the world.

Sarah discussed with me the power of kindness, how it can make a difference, how we can all be kind, and also shared some wonderful stories of where her initiative has made a positive difference to someone else – really powerful stuff.

We need more kindness in the world, and if we can all be a little bit like Sarah, we will all surely make this world a better place.

Christie Hayes is an Australian actress and singer, known for her work on the television series Home and Away.

Now though, she is one half of Hobarts newest breakfast radio announcers on Hit 100.9!

Getting to know Christie a little bit since she moved to Hobart, in the brief times we had chatted Christie had been really open about some of the struggles she had faced in her life. Which of course is at odds with what we usually feel about those that we see on television or read about in magazines.

Christie has been deeply touched by suicide, struggled with becoming a new Mum, has a child with Autism, and now lives away from her family to follow her passion and a wonderful opportunity in radio.

It was a pleasure to sit down with Christie and get an insight into her life and some of difficult things she has faced on her own journey – she really is a powerful, strong, and wonderful person.

Andrew Hickman is a Registered Nurse who is currently an educator in the Emergency Department at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

After being diagnosed with Congenital Aortic Stenosis in 1987 at just 3 years old, Andrew then ended up having to have open heart surgery the same year. Followed by 3 more heart surgeries all whilst a young boy.

Growing up in Launceston here in Tasmania, Andrew led a life of sport, fun and filled with activities all whilst quitting uni and feeling he had no real sense of direction or purpose in life.

Eventually finding a passion for nursing (after his own experiences of having a heart condition), Andrew spent 14 years Nursing in Cairns before moving back to Tasmania in 2021.

Andrew gave a fascinating insight into the world of frontline nursing in the middle of a pandemic. He shared some of the struggles he and his colleagues did and continue to face because of covid-19. We spoke about the trauma working in an emergency department brings to your everyday life, and how he prioritises self-care to look after his own wellbeing. Andrew also speaks about the special bonds that are forged when experiencing these challenges together in the nursing community – it was really uplifting to hear.

Andrew is such a positive mover and shaker, determined to be his best and to simply bring everyone around him along for the ride.

I also really loved Andrew’s message around finding his purpose later on in life, and the way he lives life now to the absolute fullest.

Thank you to Andrew, and everyone of his amazing colleagues he represented in this episode. We thank you all for your incredible resilience and important work you do.

Joey Edwards is a leader in the Tasmanian fitness community. He is the proud owner of Unracked in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs, which is a strength and conditioning gym filled with loyal members and a positive community spirit.

I asked Joey to join me on Get Frank to open up on a street brawl in 2012 that saw him spend 6 months in prison, and upon release see him have to almost start his life over again.

Joey was 22 years of age, bankrupt, did not have a job, and faced much adversity to navigate his way back to build a prospering business, and to become a respected member of our community again. Joey shares with me his learnings from this incident, the shame he felt with his Dad being a high ranking Police Officer, his time in prison, his thoughts now around violence, becoming a Lululemon Ambassador and finding his way again to be the leader and respected person he is again now among his friends and peers. Joey’s story is a fascinating example of losing your way, learning from your mistakes, and then finding the will to grow as a person again. Thank you to Joey for your time and openness throughout this episode. Enjoy!

Josh Agnew is the General Manager and Founder of Pulse Hobart. Pule Hobart is Tasmania's number 1 for news and entertainment, in particular across social media. I was really keen to meet Josh, not only due to the success and prominence of Pulse Hobart, but Josh (was) 17 years of age when we recorded this. I was fascinated to learn about how such a young fella from Oatlands came to now run one of the most prominent news pages on our social devices. Josh shares about walking into a radio station at 6 years old to seek work, to now managing staff and a variety of initiatives that supply content to us here in Tasmania. We discuss sitting in over 200 days straight of covid press conferences front and centre to the Premier, to reporting on some of our states most devastating stories. Josh also opens up about trolls, negative comments and the importance of upholding positive values for youth when it comes to posting on social media. Josh has achieved so much for an 18 year old, and there is so much more he is going to get done! Enjoy!

Will Smith is the founder of JCP Youth. A Tasmanian based organisation working with young people delivering youth leadership seminars in schools, leadership camps and community engagement, predominantly working with troubled youth. Will is one of the most passionate people I have ever met. And get this, he even knows and has a friendship with the actual Will Smith!! After being arrested for a serious crime as a youth, Will eventually tuned his life around to do something most would not even consider after his history, he became a police officer.

But a few years ago, he gave all that up to develop JCP and has fully immersed himself into leading, guiding and working with troubled youth across the state. In this chat we speak about the moment Will saw a young person he used to work with on National Tv accused of a rape and murder. And how this completely changed his direction but built his drive to want to make a bigger difference. We talk about finding purpose, his learnings, his passion for the kids he works with, being present in moments and the importance of that. Will, the 2019 Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year, is full on, passionate, articulate, driven and very genuine. To be honest, he is such an awesome bloke and I bloody loved this chat so much.

I want to start off by saying that when Ryan messaged me to ask about being on Get Frank, I knew immediately how hard this would be.

Ryan Wiggins was one of my late brother Ty's best mates. He has been through this whole life changing experience with me and my family, and I owe so much to the love and support Ryan and all of Ty's close group of mates have given me the past 9 and a half years.

12 months ago, Ryan Wiggins suffered a near fatal spinal injury, that has now left him a quadriplegic.

After around 5-6 months in a Melbourne hospital, Ryan has returned home where he now lives with his family, who's lives have been put on hold as they look to now support Ryan for the rest of his life.

Ryan shares with me what he recalls from the incident, hearing the news from his doctors, what life is now like, and his experience of going through all of this in Victoria with covid being so out of control. He talks about his routines now, his rehab, the support he has and continues to need, as well as the change to his mindset after being home and coming to terms (as much as he can) about his new future.

Preparing questions for this chat with Ryan I knew we also had to talk about the loss of my brother, and I knew that it would lead to many different types of emotions in the time I spent with him.

Ryan's life is so different now, and no one would ever want to be in his position. However Ryan already wants to leave a mark on this world, and is determined to be a person that inspires others to fight through challenges wherever he can.

What Ryan has overcome, and the challenges he and his family will forever face are incredibly hard to hear, but his outlook on it now is overwhelmingly moving, and I am just so proud to know him and call him a friend.

Ryan also wanted to use this platform to show how grateful he is for the support so many people gave him through the initial stages of recovery - he certainly shows his gratitude for the support he had, and continues to need moving forward.

Thank you to Ryan and his family for this chat, It means more to me than you will ever know :)

Julien Moussi is the Director of Inglewood Coffee Roasters, and owner of Only Hospitality Group which is the overarching name to some of Melbourne's most popular cafe's.

Julien is a very successful business man and in recent article's has been called a "café mogul" and (my favorite) a "café Lord". But above all that, he's one of my closest friends.

To spend an hour with "JJ" was something we don't often get to do these days as we live in different states. So it was wonderful for me to be in the presence of such a high energy and positive friend. But whilst I've proudly watched on and known about Julien's successes, hard work and dedication to grow his café empire, the truth is we had never really spoken in depth about how he did it.

In this episode Julien shares with me how he went from making coffees out of a cart at local footy matches, to know running around 30 plus cafes and managing over 400 staff. Not to mention Inglewood Coffee Roasters has now fast become one of the most reputable and fast growing roasters in Australia.

Julien talks about the do's and don'ts when scaling a business, he talks about how risk is important when making business decisions, and he also speaks about the importance of team culture, and how that is a major contributor to his successes.

Loud, driven, energetic, fun and determined. Please enjoy my episode with my good friend and businessman, Julien Moussi :)

Shaun White is the Senior Pastor with C3 Church here in Hobart. Shaun is someone who always gives sneaky insights into his life when I catch up with him, and I have always been so fascinated to know more about him.

Shaun to me has always been a “helper” and a “giver”, and in this chat with him I really did find out why he is that type of person.

Shaun is a former paramedic in Western Sydney who really has seen it all. Shaun shares with me moments in that job that changed him, and things he witnessed that will always be with him. He then went on to develop an aero medical program in the middle east for 5 years. And even ended up setting up a medical program for the King – Huge!

Now though, Shaun is a dedicated man to his family, friends, and of course his church.

In this episode we spoke about the church and the benefits it has bought to Shaun’s life. Why he is so passionate about it, and how it really is a different community to what most people feel it might be.

Shaun is such a cool, kind, motivating guy, and to get this insight into his world is something I am very grateful for.

Dylan Buckley is a former AFL player who was drafted in 2011 under the father/son rule to the Carlton Football Club. Dylan went on to have an 8 year career with both Carlton and the Greater Western Sydney Giants.

It was at his time at GWS where Dylan put himself out there to start becoming a podcaster, and through local radio and event opportunities, and interviewing team mates, podcasting quickly became the next thing for Dylan.

Now the creator and producer of two of our country's biggest and most successful podcasts in Dyl and Friends and List Cloggers, Dylan Buckley is a household name when it comes to AFL identities in media and the podcasting world.

It was an honor to sit with Dylan and talk not only about his AFL career and the highs and lows that it bought him. But his insight into mental health battles with anxiety as a player, his worries about what he would do after football, and then through hard work finding a purpose in life, which now brings him an enormous amount of joy and connection.

Dylan loves reflection and appreciates the opportunity each day to learn from those he engages with. He is also striving to be a more empathetic person each day, allowing himself to give more to those going through life’s challenges.

I am so grateful for Dylan to open up his studio "Producey" for me in Richmond Victoria, and to give us an insight into his life and his future goals.

Jo Palmer is a former television news reader and journalist. Known for reading the weekly news bulletin live on our tv screens with Southern Cross, or hosting a charity event, Jo has now turned her attention to politics, and is making waves in the early stages of her political career.

After recently being elevated to cabinet and taking over 3 important portfolios, Jo’s always been someone to me that I see a lot, but I just don’t know much about her.

In her first episode as a podcast guest ever (which was a surprise) Jo gives a wonderful insight into her family and upbringing that had us at one stage both in tears. Jo shared with me about being adopted as a baby in NZ, the thrills and challenges in meeting members of her birth family, as well as the amazing gratitude she has towards her mother that gave her up.

We spoke about growing up in a loving family here in Tasmania, and to now living life in the fast lane and why she felt it was time to enter politics, and the difference she wants to make.

Jo also answered questions I had around journalism and how I’ve always questioned the amount of leniency reporters get when reporting on matters.

I’m really grateful for this insight into Jo’s world. Jo is kind, articulate, genuine, caring and determined to be the best mum, politician and person she can be.

Rochelle Dare (Rocky) battled anxiety and depression from a young age, but could never build up the courage to go and seek help for it.

For the first time ever speaking about it publicly, Rocky shares about her self harming, going through an abortion, the loss of a family member, and other life obstacles that continued to challenge her mental well-being. I could see the relief in Rocky’s face when she shared the moment that she finally headed off for professional support in 2019, where eventually she was diagnosed with clinical anxiety and depression.

Rocky openly talks about her life journey, and is very open about the things that broke and crippled her.

But eventually, after navigating through these trying times and accepting things need to change, they strengthened her and made her who she is today.

After setting up "The Linen Print, and publishing the new "Undiscovered Tasmania" travel and destination book, Rocky very much herself feels comfortable and confident with the skin she is in - but mainly because she overcame her fears and sought professional help.

Rocky is outgoing, courageous, creative, and most importantly, proud of the person she is today.

A businesswoman, a mum, a wife, and someone willing to be vulnerable in a bid to help others.

I loved my time with Rocky, what an awesome human!

Tyler Richardson is the front man and founding member of Tasmanian punk rockers Luca Brasi.

Tyler to me has always been such an interesting guy, he is widely adored by fans of course, but anyone I know who knows him always mentions how grounded and fascinating he is - so I wanted to find out for myself.

In this chat we talk about his upbringing and creating the band. His experiences with anxiety and how that has at times hindered but also empowered him and his passion for music. The challenges of being a rock star on weekends, and a high school teacher during the week. Travelling to amazing parts of the world with the band, and working with the wiggles and the JackJumpers (to name a few). And also very excitingly, we talk about Tyler becoming a Dad soon.

Tyler really is a wonderful guy, and although I am not into punk rock myself, I will be telling kids to look up to him as he is a fantastic role model for our younger generation.

In 2020 Pete Rasmussen’s life was turned upside down when his wife was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.

Sadly, it wasn't long after his wife was well into her treatment when Pete also noticed signs of ill health.

Scans and tests soon revealing that Pete has a brain tumor that devastatingly is inoperable.

In this episode Pete shares with Mitch this roller coaster of emotions that they as a family were faced with, and continue to face with the remaining time Pete gets to spend with his children, wife, family and friends.

A remarkable man with a story that no one wants to endure themselves, but a story that will make you want to hold your loved ones close and tell them you love them.

So grateful for Pete's zest for life and positivity, his willingness to share his story, and ultimately his love for his family and friends.

Enjoy, and listen with care ❤️

Jack McVeigh is one of the stars of Tasmanian NBL side the JackJumpers.

Since the inception of the JackJumpers this year, I had heard so many positive comments about this guy. Not only his basketball ability which as many now know is at a very high level. But people had said his personality is infectious, and you just want to be around his positive energy all the time.

So I wanted to sit down with him, and learn more about why he is like that.

This guy has come in on his day off in the middle of NBL finals to chat to me, so that needs to be applauded.

Jack gave us a great insight into the JackJumper team and its culture, we spoke about what drives him to be a better person and why he strives to be a role model and a positive person in our society.

Jack was really open about the leanings it has taken him to realise that there is more to life than just being a good at basketball.

Thanks again to Jack for giving up his time this week, you will really enjoy this insight into his time so far with the Jack Jumpers, but also the insight into jack and the intriguing and positive way he leads his life.

Good luck to Jack and the lads in their third final Monday night :)

Enjoy!

Emily Briffa is the CEO and Co-founder of Hamlet Cafe in Hobart. The charity cafe runs volunteer training programs to equip people with job ready skills for the work force. I invited Emily on to talk about her passion to bring down Tasmania’s unemployment rate, and her desire to better support those who are as quoted by Emily “disempowered through circumstances that are usually not of their making”. What I also discovered about Emily was that she had faced some serious adversity on her journey towards becoming a Mum. Emily was incredibly open about her experiences in losing two babies on her way to delivering her “miracle” baby Polly at 28 weeks in 2021. Emily’s resilience, zest for life, love for her little family, and passion to help others is something you will think about for a very long time.  Heads up, this episode discusses grief and pregnancy loss. Mitch sits down with James “Jimmy” Smith, one half of radio's newest National weekend breakfast show Jimmy and Nath.

Better knows as "Jimmy", James opens up on growing up in a small country town, but then heading to the big smoke to chase his dreams to be an entertainer.

Jimmy's story really is proof that when we think someone has "it all together", we very much might be a long way off.

Jimmy's raw insight into his daily battles and challenges is an inspiring listen.

For the very first episode of Get Frank we wanted our listeners to get a deeper insight and understanding of Mitch himself.

In this episode Mitch sits down and is interviewed by his good friend and ABC Radio Drive Host Lucy Braeden.

This episode goes deeper than ever before, and not only touches on Mitch's experience of a family members suicide 9 years ago, but goes deep into the challenges he now faces working in the space of mental health and suicide prevention each and every day.

This episode is raw, honest and emotive.

We hope you enjoy it!
