Sparking Change: A Podcast for Prevention is an accessible podcast dedicated to informing the public of the dangers of substance use featuring many takes on the subject by the members of the Catalyst Club at Stevenson High School. This podcast includes a diverse selection of guests including but not limited to high schoolers, social workers, local activists, and community legislators who will relay their experiences, convey their expertise, or spread their message. Listen to this podcast for the most recent research on substance use to educate yourself on what is happening in your community.
Today, Vaishnavi and Dhruv discuss with a very active member of the substance use awareness community: Bryant! Bryant is the director of the Student Advisory Board (SAB), a youth group where a lot of students, including those from SHS, participate in to promote a substance-free community. He touches on his involvement with the SAB and how it all falls under the YPRC, a resource center dedicated to helping individuals.
Today, Hansika and Dhruv talk with Officer Lill, Stevenson's very own Student Resource Officer (SRO)! Officer Lill touches on the work he does as an SRO, but also on substance use, and how staying substance-free is super important, especially for teens. Hope you enjoy it!
In today's episode, we have a collaboration with the HPP (Human Performance Project) with Dhruv and Agastya as our hosts! Julie talks about her job in prevention within the HPP and her mission for change. In this episode, co-hosts Pranav and Alex are joined by Bekhruza and Trisha from the Youth Activism committee here at SHS Catalyst. Youth Activism strives to partner with other prevention programs and to promote a substance-free mindset in the youth within our community. In this episode, we learn about the importance of educating our youth on substance use and its harms. In this episode, we interview Emma, Kash and Ben from the Local/State Policy and Legislation Committees here in Catalyst. We discuss the work they do, from advocating for the passing of the Tobacco 21 bill in the past to more recent work with state legislators. In this episode, Dhruv and Sanya are joined by Ahana and Matthew from the Equity and Diversity committee to discuss the impact of their work in Catalyst. The Equity and Diversity Committee works to promote diversity and educate the religious and cultural groups within the community on the harms of underage substance usage. We discuss the religious and cultural groups Equity and Diversity has worked with thus far as well as the impact of substance usage on marginalized groups. In this episode, Dhruv and Aaryan interview Catalyst members Bill and Vince of the member education committee. This committee focuses on educating catalyst members on substance use and keeping them up to date on Catalyst policies. Bill and Vince explain their committee's commitment to making members more aware of substance use via presentations, and why it is important to stay away from them.
