Jordan Henderson appears set to follow Fabinho out of the door in the coming days, barring any sudden change of heart, following Liverpool’s acceptance of a £12m bid from Al-Ettifaq.
As expected, that leaves the club in a rather tricky position having been in need of a third midfield signing anyway had the pair remained at L4.
Now, we can perfectly rationalise the prospect of snapping up a further two additions for the middle of the park, though this does raise questions about how we reinforce the backline within the available budget.

Liverpool have conducted some impressive business thus far with the signings of Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and (if all goes as expected) RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

Alexis Mac Allister is in (cheers Julian Ward) and we’ve decided who will be joining him (and who will be leaving) at Anfield for the 2023/24 season.
We had to make some difficult calls - some of which Jurgen Klopp definitely WON’T like - but we’ve cracked the defensive and midfield crisis, giving the German plenty of solid options to work with for the foreseeable future.

The news that Liverpool will sign Alexis Mac Allister for a reported £35m (according to Guardian reporter Fabrizio Romano) shocked both Liverpool and Brighton supporters alike.

With the World Cup fast coming to a close, Premier League fans will be drawing a collective sigh of relief as the domestic season nears.
There’s no question that the time away from the English top-flight has been mostly good for Liverpool - Luis Diaz’s latest injury setback aside - allowing key men to return from injury, not to mention time for Jürgen Klopp and his coaching staff to regroup and mull over solutions for the second-half of the campaign.
One such solution will be the January transfer window and, as expected, the Reds have already been linked with a vast swathe of names.
One fresh option - to fans at least - that could be explored is that of Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who most football supporters will be aware of through the Qatar-based World Cup where he has thrived for the Moroccan national side.

Liverpool are BACK!
Or are they?
A positive performance from Jurgen Klopp’s men would have surely inspired a similar response from much of the fanbase and commentators, yet we have the likes of ex-Chelsea man Chris Sutton coming out telling us that a rude awakening lies in store for the Reds at the Emirates come Sunday.
The negativity is understandable to an extent given how topsy-turvy our form has been since the start of the season, though some seem to have already lost faith in the Premier League and Champions League-winning manager turning things around.
We suffered from a false dawn in the form of our 2-1 win over Ajax admittedly, though a change of formation and personnel appears to have inspired a significant improvement that looks capable of falling into the ever-coveted arms of consistency.
A 4-2-3-1 could herald the real start to Liverpool’s 2022/23 campaign - better sooner rather than later too given the points gap that now yawns between ourselves and the Gunners at the top of the summit.

Before we’re quick to dismiss the idea of the Gunners securing league title glory this term, it’s worth thinking back to our own near miss in 2013/14 with a squad that was clearly lacking in depth though not quality within the starting-XI.
Keep up their form and avoid serious injuries and you’d be hard-pressed not to back the Londoners for a strong finish to the season at the very least if not the biggest prize of them all in England.
For Liverpool, we won’t be thinking quite so big just yet, but a trip to North London does represent our biggest challenge yet and the start of a potentially blissful chapter (the first yet).

Jude Bellingham will cost quite a pretty penny should an interested party fancy itself to prise the England international away from the Bundesliga in 2023.
Liverpool, no doubt, would very much like to be that club, though Borussia Dortmund will need one hell of a rack to keep track of all the hats tossed into the ring for the 19-year-old’s services in a year’s time.

Liverpool fans have been forced to endure something of a bizarre start to the 2022/23 campaign with two vastly contrasting performances delivered against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Jurgen Klopp’s men find themselves four points behind incumbent champions Manchester City and fielding ludicrous questions around whether their title chances have been completely blown to smithereens.
For clarity, we at the Empire of the Kop are most certainly of the opinion that it’s far too early to be making any such calls at this early stage in the campaign.

The 2022/23 season is upon us!
It seems like just yesterday that Liverpool concluded their campaign, coming achingly close to bringing the league title back to Merseyside on the final day of the term.
The Reds have found out that they will face Championship winners (and Fabio Carvalho’s old club) Fulham on the first day, which was one of several topics taken up by the lads:

And just like that… domestic football returned!
Liverpool did not disappoint either, following up a 2-0 win against Watford with a 3-1 away victory in the Champions League against Benfica.
It seems like we’re saying this week in week out but it felt like another game of two halves in Lisbon with a perfect first 45 minutes of action blemished by a more okayish showing after the half-time break.
A late Luis Diaz goal was enough to see us through to Anfield with a two-goal lead for the second leg nonetheless, with Naby Keita’s performance, in particular, the subject of some discussion in the latest installment of The Empire of the Kop Podcast:
Should our No.8 be handed a new contract at the end of the season?

Liverpool do have a clear structure they like to follow, however, which could mean that the unspeakable does occur either at the end of the season or when the 29-year-old’s contract runs out in the summer of 2023.

There were a few signs of a hangover from the highs of the League Cup final win at Wembley during the Reds’ FA Cup clash with Norwich City, but Liverpool got over the line in the end to keep the dream of a quadruple alive!
