In this episode, the Crone and Sage discuss how the energy of the Dark Times of the Year has been peaking and how the Winter Solstice (New Year for us) will be here before we know it. December’s Full Moon will be in a few days and on The Path we call it the Changing Moon. This month always seems to be full of changes, new year, crazy weather, shift to the LIght Half of the Year, etc. etc. etc. There also seems to be the biggest divide between what our personal energies which are connected to the Solar Cycle and what society expects at this time of year with all the hustle and bustle, obligations, and general celebratory everything going on around us. It is up to us to discern where we want to expend our energy which means picking and choosing events to attend or activities to get drawn into. In our Something Else segment, we reminisce about childhood Thanksgivings and how some of our memories have more Pagan connections than we realized growing up. Finally, the Sage offers up our weekly Witchstones Reading.

It’s the Sage’s birthday and we had a great time recording together this week. It’s the time to move on to the next Times of seasonal cycle in our practices. Samhain is almost upon us and we bid farewell to our focus on the Element of Air and being talking about working with the Element of Water where we work to establish a deeper understanding of the Flows of Connection and start some serious internal work as we head deeper into the Dark Times of the Year. The Nights of the Dark Moon have just passed and the energies hit both of us pretty hard. We call our next Full Moon the Ancestors Moon and the Sage is planning to focus on this energy over the next cycle of waxing and waning and not just the Times of the Full Moon. He is planning to share about his experiences with this different focus. Finally, in our Something Else segment, we briefly discussed the stone for this season which is the manmade Blue Goldstone. Finally, we close with a great Witchstones Reading from our Sage.

The Crone and Sage discuss the energies that are currently in play as we move further into the Dark Times of the Year. The Moon is also Waning as well so it’s like having a double dose of the Dark Energies. In the Something Else segment, the Sage asks the Crone to define 5 words from the perspective of walking The Path. However, when you really get into the deeper meanings, they transcend any particular spiritual path and relate more to being human. As part of this discussion, we place an emphasis on how we really aren’t so different after all. We are also asking our listeners to email us their words that they would like us to discuss in a future episode. Finally, the Sage offers up a wonderful Witchstone Reading.

The Crone & Sage continue finding more “moments” throughout our day where pausing for a brief period of time to acknowledge something in our daily lives to help manage our personal spirituality a little bit better. We offer up two more in this episode: Appreciating a Good Weather Day and Acceptance with Grace. People are great at complaining about the weather but this is a way to enjoy our own “perfect” weather. Also there are times when we can all use some help to accomplish something and learning to accept that fact and allow us to be okay with that (the grace piece) prompted some interesting discussion points between us.

Tonight the Crone & Sage start talking about the Loafmas Activities that we are working on over the next season. We are looking at a number of beliefs concerning our practice of Witchcraft to see where we have grown and changed over the last year. In our Lunar Cycle, we are at the last of the Waning Cycle and tomorrow we start our 3 nights that we call the Dark Nights of the Moon where we can’t see it in the night sky. The Liturgy reading done by the Crone is a Praise Prayer this week about My Sacred Three. During the Ritualization of the Everyday, we realized that we are really much more connected to the Lunar Cycle than before and that we need to start deciding what we will be focusing on learning about over the upcoming Dark Half of the Year. Today, the Crone and Sage take about another couple of moments where it can be beneficial to pause, take those three deep breaths (Body, Mind, and Spirit) and deal with life. First, they talk about recognizing when we connect with those moments of child-like wonder. The Sage connects the feeling to that of a Christmas morning when you sneak down to look at presents and discover the milk and cookies left out for Santa have been eaten and you just know he is real. It’s that feeling you can find in all aspects of the natural world for us on The Path. They also talk about lessening the frustration we all feel when we feel physically trapped or cornered by circumstances beyond our control (think traffic jam or stuck in line at the grocery store here) and cultivating a little (okay sometimes a lot) of patience to deal with it.

The Crone & Sage are entering the Season of Loafmas officially after completing our three ritual cycle where we will be focusing on improving our relationship with the Element of Air. Because we associate this Element with Knowledge and New Perspectives, this is the time of year where we focus on looking at how our personal spiritual beliefs have grown and changed over the last year, not only to recognize the work we have been doing but to determine if what we are currently practicing continues to match these beliefs. It is another Full Moon this weekend and we call the August Moon the Bread (or Grains) Moon. It is traditionally an agricultural time of separating the wheat from the chaff so what we are analyzing fits. The two of them discuss how the Lunar Energy of Full Moons lately has been affecting them more than usual. The Liturgy Reading, by the Crone, is our traditional circle cast that we use when working magick as part of a ritual. Talking about what we have been doing to start connecting with the Element of Air has been our everyday focus. Finally, the Sage concludes with another excellent Witchstone Reading.

We have been offering short prayers, meditations, whatever you want to call them to work our way through various Occasions in our lives. Some of them may happen daily, others rarely, or not at all. First, we share a prayer for When Recognizing that Magick Works and that we had something to do with what happened. Then we move on to a topic that we hope no one has to deal with: The Shock of Someone Passing Unexpectedly. This is a difficult topic to discuss because our society does not have adequate words to deal with the death of someone we care about. However, this prayer is available if it is unfortunately needed as we begin to cope with the news.

Going forward, the Crone & Sage will be discussing pieces of the Liturgy that you can use for Occasions in your life that don’t have a specific time of day attached to them. However, in this episode we are offering a prayer that fits both types, specific and occasional, so it’s kind of a bridge between the two. It’s a prayer for when you awaken in the Middle of the Night and can’t easily get back to sleep. It focus on the fact that the world around you is fine, that you don’t have to lie there worrying about tomorrow, and that you can and deserve to return to your rest. Enjoy! Tonight, we are changing the format of Extra a little bit because we are starting what we call a “Liturgy Challenge” which will offer people the chance to pause throughout the day to connect with their personal spirituality through what can loosely be called “prayers” if you want. They take place at specific times of the day or as something specific occurs and don’t take much time or effort to do. However, there is a commitment to following through by adding them one at a time to the day. This Liturgy comes from our book, The Liturgy of the Path, A Book of Prayer for Witches, which is available from amazon as a paperback. Join us as we explain what a Liturgy is and what ours is about. We also encourage you to join us as The Crone and Sage also actively participate by adding these experiences to our day as well and talk about it.

After suffering through major computer withdrawal, the Crone talks about how sometimes as Witches we need to remember to just Go with the Flow. During this Samhain season of connecting with the Element of Water which finds its way around, over, and occasionally through all obstacles, not to mention adapting to changes in shape with ease based on containers, it serves as a reminder that sometimes we just need to let go and let the Universe send us where it may.

In this episode, the Crone & Sage talk about how they each celebrated the recent Winter Solstice. In spite of major computer issues, hopefully you can make some sense of their conversation. They skipped any Cross Quarter Times Discussions and moved on to the Lunar Cycle. Because of late recording (computer issues again), it is the Dark Night of the Moon and it is in Sagittarius. Our Liturgy Reading is about the Dark Night of the Moon. During the Ritualization of the Everyday segment, the Sage talks about the reorganization he has been doing with his largest personal altar. The two of them also discussed how each of them has personal altars around their own living spaces for different purposes. Finally, the Sage finishes up with a Witchstone reading about potential energies that may affect our Sacred Three of Body, Mind, & Spirit as we move into the new calendar year.

Happy Winter Solstice! It’s now officially Winter and the weather where we practice reflects that. It’s only 19 degrees outside and snowing this morning. However, the Crone talks about how we have been celebrating the Solstice today and offers a suggestion of something you might want to try as we head into a new calendar year. Today is also our New Year so Happy Day to all as well.

In the Lunar Cycle, they talk about the upcoming Full Moon in December which The Path calls the Changing Moon and the opportunities available to get ready to generate personal changes in the upcoming new year. The Liturgy Reading by the Crone is a celebratory piece about the Winter Solstice. In the Ritualization of the Everyday Segment, both of them talk about what they are doing currently in the practices and daly lives to enhance their spiritual practices. Finally, the Sage conducts a Witchstones Cards reading about potential energies we can use to get through the hustle and bustle of the upcoming “holidays” season and survive until the New Year.

As we head into the times of most Dark Energy, the Crone and Sage delve into two of the Times of Samhain Connections writing prompts, each sharing their thoughts about one of them. In our Lunar Cycle, we are celebrating the Dark Times of the Moon with its receptive energies of mysteries and philosophy based on the fact that the Moon is moving from being in Scorpio astrologically to Sagittarius. The Sage also shares how he is much more in tune with the Lunar Energies in terms of its Waxing and Waning properties. Our Liturgy Reading is a Praise Poem celebrating Families since we have just finished with Thanksgiving and are moving into the “holiday” season. In our Ritualization of the Everyday segment, the Sage shares about some magickal work he is planning to further his connections with the Element of Water and the Crone is planning to return to a quick nightly connection with the Lunar Energies. Finally, the Sage finishes up with a Witchstone reading about some potential energies for one’s Sacred Three for the upcoming Solstice season.

The Crone & Sage share about their experience with rededication at Egress as well as letting some things go at the end of another ICE (Ingress, Congress, Egress) cycle and how grateful we are that we can be together in person. (Yes, doing this year of ritual practices has made us up our game a bit and we appreciate the changes we are creating). It’s the Full Ancestor Moon as we record and that seems to have exponentially increased the energy we have been experiencing. During our Ritualization of the Everyday, we discuss how we can potentially enhance those mundane rituals that are part of our daily lives that we may even be unaware of at this point because we have done them so often. The Crone shares a reading from the LIturgy which is a Praise Poem to the Ancestors. Finally, as always, our Sage gives a Witchstone Reading about energies that potentially influence us; he calls this one a Now, Near, and Far reading and wanted to see how to manage the changes in the current political climate.

Many Witches perform some sort of rededication to their personal spiritual path at some point in their practices, often on a yearly basis. While the more “traditional” time is considered at Candlemas in February, those of us on The Path perform this during our Egress Ritual for the Times of Samhain. To us, it make the most sense to do so now as we continue down into the darkest energies of the year as a time of contemplation and study. The Crone shares our own personal rededication statement or oath if you prefer but we recommend writing one of your own and figuring out when (or if) you want to perform one. Some Witches we know do so on the anniversary of when they started practicing Witchcraft but it is up to you to choose the appropriate moment for yourself.

As part of our ritual practices on The Path, we share Housel together, eating and drinking something towards the end of any ritual. This practice serves two wonderful purposes. First, it is a way to celebrate being together and second, it is also a way to continue the process of grounding ourselves back into the mundane from the magickal experience we have shared. We are celebrating our Congress Ritual for the Times of Samhain on Halloween and it is now a “tradition” that the Crone makes Harvest Apple Bars for this particular Housel. The Crone & Sage first talk about how the Solar Cycle seems to have speeded up after the Autumnal Equinox. Both of us have been somewhat startled by how much darker it is earlier in the evening and how late the sun seems to rising above the horizon in the morning. We are working towards our Congress Ritual for the Times of Samhain which we will celebrate on October 31st. We have all experienced the Super Moon this week and the energy has been seen as an amplifier for any type of magick. Those of us on The Path call the October Moon the Thinned Veil Moon as it will be thinnest for hoping to connect with Ancestor Energy at Congress. The Crone shares a chant for The Esbat of the Full Moon from our Liturgy book, The LIturgy of The Path A Book of Prayer for Witches. The two of them then move on to a discussion of what they are up to currently in the small daily things that are “Witchy”. We are entering the Times of Samhain, which we also know as the Times of the Flows of Connections, where we work more easily with the Element of Water. Not onl is the Autumn Equinox this Sunday but we are in the Middle of the Times of Loafmas and the Crone and Sage share a bit about both of them. In our Lunar Cycle segment, we just had a Super Moon with a partial eclipse and the Sage definitely was affected as he worked some major magick for himself. In our LIturgy section, the Crone shares a Self Blessing that can be used as we decide what we want to study and reflect on as we move into the Darker Energy part of the year. In our Ritualization of the Everyday, we share about what we are doing on a daily basis at the moment. Dave, our Sage, is also including a Witchstone Reading at the end. The Crone and Sage are discussing the last Metaphysical Kernel of Thought they have to share with you. It covers the fact that walking The Path or any practice of Witchcraft requires you to do some learning first but then you have to get up off your ass and actually practice! Everyone’s experiences are their own and there are often not the words available (or in existence) that allow you to share them fully with others which is what makes Witchcraft experiential!. In our practices section, we talk about how we all need to work on personal patience and tolerance for others and ourselves. Finally, the Crone offers up a small spell for Patience Right Now as our Tip, Trick or Witchy Hint.

Yesterday it was really raining here where the Crone lives and she talks about going out for a walk in the rain (which may not be for everybody) but it gave her a chance to wash away some of the emotional overload she has been dealing with. The idea of the walk got her thinking about other ways you can use the weather and whatever else you can think of to work some personal magick on yourself without a whole lot of time or effort to create a ritual or even some small spell. Think about what you might try for yourself for a quick change of attitude or perspective!

The Crone is here to remind you that there are times when we actually need to “schedule” time for the magickal in our lives. Not those daily practice things that only take a few minutes to do, which she has scheduled sometimes as reminders on her phone, but those important ritual and or personal times where we really need to do something magickal. We can think about making time to do ritual, but often the time comes and goes or we think we can get to it later and the mundane continues to have priority. Why not actually schedule some of those magickal times right into your mundane calendar and treat them as the most important upcoming appointment or event? We all know that we get all sorts of personal benefits by doing ritual and we can get rid of all that personal mundane guilt when we miss doing it. Our magickal practices are just as important as that concert at school or going to the dentist to get our teeth cleaned. Now you have permission to block out that period of time, set it aside, and really take the time to enjoy ritual because you have made the time available to yourself.

In this episode, the Crone & Sage discuss how formal consecration of items we may end up with for our rituals and magick isn’t necessary because we believe that everything is already sacred. However, we also think that items carry energy “imprints” from their travels before they end up with us and that these items can benefit from a period of acclimation before being used. Whether they choose to keep these energies, such as something a maker has brought to an item through their creating, or discard those that don’t mesh with their own nature, giving them time to figure that out can be beneficial. In our Practices segment where we talk about what we do and how we do what we do, a lively discussion about where we may choose to work magick is available. This extra is designed to remind you about the power of words. In our last episode, Dave discussed how he was choosing a particular word to use as a focus for the upcoming year in his own practices. Elizabeth is using the word “Daily” as a reminder to do something each day (or as often is practical) as a reminder of her Witchiness. Words do have power and the spoken word seems to ground things into the mundane for us making it more likely that we will follow through on what we want to accomplish.

The Crone & Sage talk about how incense and rocks have always been an important part of Su’s and my practices as we crafted The Path Tradition and how every Witch needs to find their personal affinity with something and use it their own practice (and no it doesn’t have to be incense or rocks either). During our Practices segment which is all about doing what we do and the reasons for it and what we get out of it, we focused on those little things you can do to create a personally relevant daily practice to remind yourself that magick exists, you are managing things for yourself, and to remember that you are Witch. Finally, the Sage wishes all of us a blessed Winter Solstice and as part of our new year suggests that you find a word that best expresses what you want your personal practices to focus on over the next year. Happy New Year to all!

By the time you hear this, Winter Solstice will have just passed. It is not only the start of the season of Winter (however you experience the weather), but the start of the Light Half of the Year even if we can’t yet perceive the increase of daylight yet. On The Path, we celebrate our New Year at this time. It is a nod to our practical side because at least it is close to the change in the calendar. Take a moment to reflect how many different cultures have some sort of celebration at this time of year to celebrate the return of the Light and however you celebrate, may you have a joyous holiday.

We have had our first noticeable snowfall as that reminder that Winter is coming and with it the Solstice. At this time of year our weather can be extremely variable. In fact, it has been cloudy with rain for about the last 10 days along with the snow and tomorrow we are expecting a record high of 60 degrees then maybe snow the day after that. With all these quick weather changes, it got the Crone thinking about some of the ways you can use the energy of the different types of Weather to enhance your magick.

The Autumn Equinox is coming up on September 23rd. It’s officially the calendar start for the Fall season and we on The Path celebrate this day as an important reminder of balance. Whether you’ve noticed or not, the days are getting shorter and I have noticed this when I get up to get kids ready for school that I am up before the sun again.
