Feed Yourself: Recent Episodes

Rachel King

Feed Yourself: Healthy Habits for the Mind, Body, & Soul is all about learning the key components of overall health based on Biblical principles. When most people think about getting in shape and becoming “healthy”, they immediately think about their physical health: losing weight, making exercise a priority, possessing flexibility and endurance, and remaining disease free. But Scripture makes it clear that physical wellness is not the only area that impacts health. In order to be TRULY healthy, we have to focus on four areas: spiritual health, emotional health, mental health, and physical health.

This podcast dives deep into the tools and head knowledge you will need in order to create lasting results, but it also looks at the element that truly ties it all together - the heart knowledge that incorporates faith in God in this area of our lives and how to apply it when things get tough (and they will!).

I wanted to create a space to let you know you are never alone on this journey. Through years of experience in doing everything the WRONG way, I am here to share my journey of getting healthy from the inside out - ditching the restriction and diet culture and truly learning to treat my body as the temple God intended it to be.

Grab a cup of coffee and join me as I discuss healthy habits to incorporate in your daily life to propel you forward and FEED YOURSELF on your journey to health in all areas: mind, body, and soul!

Why sustainable motherhood sometimes requires stepping backIf you’re an overwhelmed mom trying to build peaceful routines while still feeling stretched thin… this episode is an honest conversation about sustainability.

Because here’s the truth:

You can’t teach peace while running on pressure.
You can’t preach margin while living in burnout.
And you can’t build something meaningful without pausing to evaluate what’s working.

In this episode of Mama’s Tired, I’m sharing why I’m pressing pause on the podcast for a season - and what this shift means moving forward.

This isn’t a goodbye.
It’s a “I’ll see you next season.”.

And if you’re a busy mom feeling like something in your life needs space to breathe, this conversation will resonate deeply.

In This Episode, We Talk About:* Why creative work needs sustainability * How burnout can hide behind productivity * Recognizing when something feels misaligned * The pressure moms put on themselves to “keep going” * Why stepping back can be strategic — not a failure * Building a life that reflects the rhythms you teach

For the Mom Who Feels Stretched ThinIf you’ve been:

  • Ending each day exhausted
  • Feeling behind no matter how organized you are
  • Trying to simplify your home but still overwhelmed
  • Carrying the invisible mental load of motherhood
  • Wondering if you need a reset

This episode offers permission.

Permission to pause.
Permission to reassess.
Permission to build sustainability into your life — not just talk about it.

The Big ReminderPeace isn’t built by pushing harder.

Sometimes it’s built by stepping back.

And sustainable motherhood requires rhythms that protect your energy — not drain it.

Stay ConnectedWhile the podcast takes a pause, you can stay connected through my email list where I’ll continue sharing simple systems, encouragement for overwhelmed moms, and updates on what’s next.

Faith isn’t just found in perfect routines or long Bible lessons — it’s found in the ordinary moments where love, grace, and patience show up.

When you pray in the car line, speak kindness after frustration, or thank God for the small things…
That’s discipleship, mama. That’s the good stuff.

In this episode, we talk about:

✨ Why simple, everyday faith matters most

✨ How to overcome the guilt of “not doing enough”

✨ Easy, natural ways to weave Jesus into your daily routines

You are raising little hearts to find Jesus in the small, ordinary moments of motherhood.

Balance.
The word moms hear over and over again… but here’s the truth:
Balance is a myth.

It suggests you can (and should) give equal time, energy, and attention to everything — work, home, self-care, kids — all at once.
But motherhood doesn’t (and shouldn’t) work that way. Life moves in seasons and rhythms, not perfect symmetry.

It’s time to stop striving for balance and start creating systems that actually work in your real life. In this episode, I’m sharing why balance is keeping you stuck and what to aim for instead.

Have you ever snapped at your kids over something small… and then instantly felt guilty? Or craved silence so badly you could scream if you hear one more “Mom, Mama, Mommy?"

That, mama, is overstimulation. And it’s one of the most common — yet least talked about — struggles for moms.

The truth is, your brain and body are processing constant noise, touch, and demands every single day. Add in the invisible mental load of keeping a household running, and it’s no wonder you feel on edge.

In this episode, we’re talking about the real reason moms are especially prone to sensory overload, how to recognize the signs in your body and behavior, why pushing through only makes things worse, and small, doable resets you can use daily to stay calm and reset.

Is your house loud and chaotic? Does your brain spin daily? Does your patience feel paper-thin? If you said yes, then this episode is your exhale.

Nobody talks about why moms get emotionally stuck in the chaos, but we need to normalize it. There is constant overstimulation: the noise, the needs, and the decisions to be made. We try to suppress it and hold it all together because everyone needs us to have it all together until we finally snap and explode. We need a break, but then we feel guilty for taking a break. We believe we just don’t have time to reset.

In this episode, we’re talking small, doable resets that take 5 minutes or less — to help you come back to peace, even when everything else feels loud. This is for the busy, overwhelmed moms who need practical, bite-sized emotional resets they can use anytime — even in the middle of toddler tantrums or work-from-home chaos.

When women come to me to work together on their nutrition, I always end up hearing so many sad stories. These women are living lives where they’ve been skipping meals for years in order to lose weight. When they do eventually end up eating, they are terrified of carbs or eating over the 1,200 calories we've all been conditioned to think is a "magic" number. The nutrition world has come so far, and yet, the bad advice given years ago just won’t seem to go away.

When your goal is weight loss, you do need to be mindful of the calories you consume. However, when you aren’t eating enough, your weight loss efforts can be hindered as well.

Let’s talk about 3 reasons why you should actually be eating MORE in order to lose weight.

In this episode, we cover: * Eating more (not less) to lose weight * How the restriction of calories can lead to self-sabotage * How the right type (not just the amount) of food matters * Why adequate calorie consumption is essential for optimal health in all areas

MORE ABOUT FEED YOURSELF: HEALTHY HABITS FOR THE MIND, BODY, & SOUL PODCAST: Feed Yourself: Healthy Habits for the Mind, Body, & Soul is all about learning the key components of overall health based on Biblical principles.

There is a strong correlation between our nutrition and mental health. Unfortunately, the American diet is overloaded with processed foods that can lead to an increased risk of depression, cognitive impairment, and ADHD. On the flip side, a diet that centers around nutritious whole foods can actually help prevent many mental illnesses in most cases.

Here are four tips for improving your own mental health through a tried and trusted nutrition approach.

In this episode, we cover: * How your mental health is closely related to what you eat * Ways to ensure adequate physical and mental health * Tips to promote overall wellness through nutrition * Adequate calorie consumption for brain health

I used to live between two extremes when it came to vacation: I would either throw caution to the wind and eat all the food in sight, or I would stress about how much weight I was going to gain and restrict myself for days to try to get the number on the scale to go down.

I have had several clients come to me within the last few weeks asking questions about what to do while traveling to stay on track and maintain their progress, so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of those tips here on the show. Many of you have worked hard and do not want to lose momentum and progress as you travel, but you also want to relax and have fun and spend quality time with your families. The good news is that you can do both!

Check out this episode for my three tips to staying on track while vacationing.

Our household has been flooded with sickness the last couple weeks, so I thought it would be fun to re-release one of my favorite episodes with my favorite person: my husband, Jordan! We recorded this epiosde back in 2022, and while so many things have changed, so many of them still remain the same.

Having a healthy relationship requires commitment. We talk a lot about how important it is to keep God at the center of it all first and foremost. We share about the behind the scenes of our relationship and how we got together including goals, challenges we have faced, parenting, and advice for couples. Above all else, in order to have a healthy relationship we remind you that finding the right one and keeping God in your relationship should be the most important part. If God is not in your relationship, it is not the right relationship. Continue to pursue God in all that you do, including in your relationships.

This was a fun Q&A with my husband and we hope you enjoy revisiting it! (Be on the lookout for an upcoming episode where we share our latest adventure of becoming a family of four later this year!)

In this episode, we cover: * Healthy relationships * Keeping God center in your relationship * Advice for couples to have a healthy relationship

Like most families who celebrate, our family has certain traditions that we do each year on Easter. As with most traditional holidays, a lot of these traditions are centered around food and family. Today’s podcast episode was inspired by a question I received from one of my current clients inside my 6 week private nutrition program. I am so glad she asked this question because I feel like anyone who has gone on a “diet” has had similar thoughts. On one hand, you do not want to flush your progress down the drain, and on the other hand you do not want to become obsessive and miss out on moments that matter most with your family.

Here are my 3 insider tips for handling the Easter holiday (or any holiday!) while keeping your nutrition in check.

I have realized that most of the time when someone throws themselves into something with an all or nothing mindset, it is truly because they want to do it right. They want a set of guidelines or rules to follow, and then they want to stick to it. When they don’t, they assume they failed and they go back to the old habits that bring them comfort because no one likes to feel like a failure. Life doesn’t stop happening just because you decide to go on a diet, and if you aren’t careful, this is where a bad relationship with food can become worse.

However, that doesn’t have to be the case. There is a better way.

In this episode, we cover: * Ditching the “all or nothing” mindset * Yo-yo dieting and the fear of missing out concerning food * Achieving lasting weight loss without deprivation

Most of us are chronically tired and overly stressed. So many of us are caught up in the everyday grind that has become the norm of life, and rest for ourselves simply gets put on the back burner. Rest is more than just restoration for your tired body. It's a restoration for your tired soul as well. When we continually try to carry our heavy load in our own strength, we get burdened down. The Lord desires for us to feel light, and to bring our burdens and the things that keep us up at night to Him, and He will give us the rest we need. Instead of stress, we can let go and rest.

Food can be an idol just like anything else in our lives. It can consume our thoughts, our attitudes, and our actions. It can be something we constantly think about, dwell on, or even covet. Our contentment and satisfaction should be found in Christ alone, and when that begins to fade, food can creep in and take its place.

When we put the food we eat or the number on the scale before God, we are truly missing out on what He has in store for our lives because we aren’t seeking His face. Instead, we are seeking to hide or heal with food.

It’s a brand new year, and with that comes LOTS of resolutions for most people. While these are usually fantastic things to strive to accomplish, almost no one finishes the year having completed the things they set out to do at the beginning of the year.

Why do you think this is? Deep in my heart, I truly think that the reason is because we set out to completely change ourselves instead of learning to embrace our God-given bodies and seeking out ways to take care of them.

Every year in January, I hear well meaning people proclaim the mantra “new year, new me.” I would love for you to ask yourself the question, "Why would you want to be someone you’re not?" God created you just the way you are. You have quirks, you have tendencies, and you have a unique personality unlike anyone else. You can absolutely work on yourself while also loving yourself through the process.

In this episode, I invite you to start the new year looking to embrace who you are and letting the Lord refine you into just how you were created to be.

This week, we are continuing the countdown of your top played Feed Yourself Episodes!

Over the next few weeks, we will be replaying the top episodes of the year, so if you missed them or just want to hear them again…here they are!

Your #2 top episode is…How Do You Take Thoughts Captive?

Taking your thoughts captive means you choose what you allow to take up residence in your mind. It means aligning the desires of your heart with what God desires for you and then believing what God desires for you. There’s a huge difference in having that head knowledge and truly believing what you know to be true.

It is not God’s desire for you to condemn yourself, constantly criticize yourself, and speak negatively toward yourself. Our thoughts have such a massive impact on our lives that it's important to be able to discern between what God says and what the enemy is trying to lead us to believe.

So how do we do this?

It’s all in today’s episode.

For the next three weeks, we will be replaying the top three episodes of the year, so if you missed them or just want to hear them again...here they are!

Your #3 top episode is...Carb Cycling: Is This Weight Loss Strategy for YOU?

The term “carb cycling” has been trending for several years now, and yet there is still so much confusion surrounding what it actually is and how to do it correctly. Carb cycling may seem fancy, but it is a pretty simple concept: you eat more carbohydrates on some days and fewer carbohydrates on other days.

As with any nutrition strategy, carb cycling is not “magic.” It’s a tool in the toolbox of techniques that can be used to achieve a desired result.

The big questions everybody wants to know: will carb cycling work for me and how on earth do you implement carb cycling?

I answer all of these and more in today’s episode.

One of the biggest issues I have with the food industry is how much more money it costs to buy nutritious foods to fuel your family than serving up overly processed foods each and every night. I totally understand when a mom tells me “it’s just too expensive to eat healthy.” I have lots to say about this, however none of it is helpful in actually solving the problem that families are having a hard time being able to afford nutritious food to fuel their bodies right now. So with that, I wanted to offer up a few strategies to help you eat well while staying on a budget.

“Eating fat makes you fat.” That has been the school of thinking for most Americans for more than two decades now. It’s a theory and myth that has kept our nation’s people sick and overweight. Fat isn’t bad on its own and there is no reason to fear it any longer. So if you banned fat back in the 90s, or if you are still holding on to the belief that eating fat will make you fat, it’s time to jump off that derailed bandwagon.

This episode is a re-release of my very first episode of Feed Yourself! Over the weekend, my family had burgers - not turkey burgers, but real hamburgers - and it made me remember all the days in the past that I too believed the lie of fat making you fat. So friend, I hope you listen to this episode and stop fearing the burger or whatever food it is that you love but have cut from your life out of fear.

Have you ever wanted someone to just hand you the specific “recipe” for true weight loss?

Well, over the course of three episodes, Amanda and I will be doing just that in a new series we are calling “A Recipe for Weight Loss.”

In this episode, we are covering ingredient #2: food closer to God’s hands than men's.

We humans are constantly getting in the way and messing up God's design in a lot of ways, and this even pertains to the food we eat.

God gave us a wonderfully healthy "meal plan" created by Him filled with nutrients and fiber. It's time we go back to what God made and eat food closer to His hands than the hands of men.

Your identity was gifted to you when you were born - it’s rooted in Christ!

Mindset is so important. It shapes who we are and what we believe to be true. Mindset is important for every area of your life – spiritual life included. Your mindset can either help you grow in faith or keep you stuck in old thought patterns.

I believe there are 3 important mindset shifts for spiritual growth. 1. See everything as for my good and His glory. This is huge. When you choose to see things as happening to help you instead of harm you, that is where true faith begins. You can align yourself with God’s truth for you and who He called you to be when you make this mindset shift.

2. Look at your past with gratitude and grace. Give yourself grace. No matter what your past looks like, give yourself grace. Everything in your life has brought you here for this moment and the life you are living now. Your past shaped you into the person you are. You’re still here because you have work left to do and God is here to help guide you through it. You can’t change the past but you don’t have to stay stuck there.

3. Focus within. All of the answers you are searching for are inside of your already. God gave you your vision AND the ability to follow through with it. The Holy Spirit dwells within you.

I cannot wait to see where your walk with God will go when you use these three mindset shifts. When you reframe your way of thinking, you are able to move forward in your spiritual health.

Thank you for tuning in! I hope this episode helped you. I’d love to chat more about it on Instagram (@rachelmeigsking)!

Weight loss is not a fast process. At least, it isn’t when you do it the right way. You did not gain 10, 20 or 50 pounds overnight, and you won’t lose it that way either.

When most people try to lose weight, they go into it with a diet mentality. And why not? That’s what we’ve been taught, right? Diets are restrictive, and with restriction comes taking lots of things OUT of your diet to achieve the results you want. Yes, you can’t walk around eating an entire bag of chips and a package of oreos daily, but you don’t necessarily have to walk around in deprivation either. In fact, there are lots of things you need to ADD to your diet when you want to lose weight.

In this episode, Amanda and I give you three things to actually ADD into your diet to achieve the results you want to achieve. We also throw in a bonus tip, so stick around until the end ;-)

Sleep plays a crucial role when it comes to overall health and quality of life. What happens when you are sleeping contributes greatly to how you feel when you are awake.

In children, sleep also helps support their growth and development. Over time, getting inadequate sleep can increase risk of long-term issues: heart, respiratory, immunity, as well as brain function.

These are just some of the reasons why I wanted to bring on my friend, Kaley Medina, to talk to us all about the importance of sleep and give us some tips on how to get more quality sleep.

Kaley Medina, is the Founder of Live Love Sleep, the nation's leading Pediatric and Adult Sleep Coaching Agency. Kaley partners with families worldwide and teaches healthy sleep habits to newborns, infants, children, and adults. Through her unique sleep consulting program, Kaley takes a new approach to traditional sleep coaching and empowers her clients to lean in and love parenting as much as they love their children. Through customized sleep coaching programs, sleep consulting, and shifts in habits, she can help children love bedtime and sleep through the night. As a mother of two, Kaley founded Live Love Sleep out of a void in her postpartum journey to support & educate new families on the importance of sleep. She credits sleep as the foundation needed to be strong and healthy for her family.

"I deserve some ______________"

What do you fill in the blank with?

Ice cream, donuts, chocolate cake, a bag of chips, a big bowl of pasta?

When do you tell yourself this?

After a long day at work? After you put the kids to bed? After dealing with "those people" at church, the grocery store, the ballpark, etc?

Well... this way of thinking is causing you to gain weight, my friend.

And it's time to stop the excuses and start losing the weight you say you want to want to lose and finally feel good in your skin!

Instead, let's talk about what you really DO deserve! (And it isn’t to continue feeling the way you do right now)

It's time to tackle the myth that weight loss is linear.

When you start losing weight, it actually doesn’t go down at a nice steady pace. Weight loss is a rollercoaster. The better prepared you are for the ride, the more you will enjoy it and stick with it.

On today’s show, Amanda Kaldor and I break down the stages of weight loss, including the ones where most women quit and why those stages are actually the WORST times to do so.

How do you take thoughts captive and what does this even mean?

Taking your thoughts captive means you choose what you allow to take up residence in your mind. It means aligning the desires of your heart with what God desires for you and then believing what God desires for you. There’s a huge difference in having that head knowledge and truly believing what you know to be true.

It is not God’s desire for you to condemn yourself, constantly criticize yourself, and speak negatively toward yourself. Our thoughts have such a massive impact on our lives that it's important to be able to discern between what God says and what the enemy is trying to lead us to believe.

So how do we do this?

It’s all in today’s episode.

Did you know that 80 PERCENT of people walk around living in fear, making reactive decisions that are keeping them stuck? Instead of forward projecting about what they really want their future to look like, they are driven by fear and avoidance. This can pertain to anything - starting a business, continuing to work a job you hate, letting other people dictate your time so you never have time to invest in your health, living in people-pleasing and growing resentment…the list goes on and on…

In this episode, I dive into the truth that your future self is depending on your current self. Literally every decision you make has an impact on your future self in some form or fashion. The food you choose to eat. The amount of sleep you get. The way you spend your time. The media you consume. It all has an impact.

“No matter what you do, there will be bystanders outside the arena who criticize. They will doubt you. But staying outside the arena means you’re overthinking, caught in paralysis by analysis. You’re letting fear win.” - Dr. Benjamin Hardy

Will you step out in faith today? Your future self is counting on you.

Have you been “on a diet” for as long as you can remember? Jumping from one diet to another, seeing success for a while and then stalling out? By continuing this diet cycle and eating less and less, you may actually be CAUSING your body to hold onto the unwanted weight. It’s time to talk about going on a “reverse diet.”

Reverse dieting is often referred to as the diet after the diet. It is a way to gradually increase calories over a few weeks or months to allow you to eat more food after you’ve been restricting calories or not eating enough. It increases your metabolism and prevents fat gain.

I know what you are thinking — wait, ladies…eat more?! Yes! When you go through restrictive periods, it is common to see weight loss plateaus. When you decrease your calories and can’t anymore, your body stalls out. When you limit the amount of fuel you are taking in, you experience hormone changes and this is where your body will start to suppress or release hormones. Your body is literally saying “feed me!” This even causes your digestion to slow down to absorb nutrients and calories. Your resting metabolic rate decreases which causes your body to redirect all focused energy on vital organs to keep you alive. This is why you will often see brittle nails and hair loss. Your body is focused on keeping you alive, not thriving. Your energy will also deplete.

The good news is you don’t have to stay there. If you want to eat more without gaining weight or are someone who has been dieting for a long time and you’re ready to maintain your current level of body fat, then the reverse diet method is right for you.

The hardest part is the mindset. We have been told to restrict and over-exercise and this is simply not how God intended us to be. God created your body to work for you and not against you. Guel your body properly, take care of it, and it will respond.

If you are in a weight loss plateau and feel like you can’t restrict anymore – book a call and let’s chat more about. It. Amanda and I would love to help you learn how you can actually eat more (fueling your body properly) and not rely on a restrictive lifestyle.

Thank you for tuning in! I hope this episode helped you. I’d love to chat more about it on Instagram (@rachelmeigsking)!

There are a lot of positive things about social media and being able to connect online. It can be such a great way to keep in touch with loved ones and stay in loop about what’s going on in your area, as well as news around the world. As much as I truly love social media, there is also so much negative energy on it. Negative digital experiences can trigger anxiety and depression and affect self-esteem.

Doing a digital detox is a great way to find out if technology is holding you back from truly living the life you were designed to live. The results of unplugging can expand to multiple areas, from being more productive at work to deepening your relationships with God, family and friends.

Here are just some of the benefits of taking some time away from the digital life:

  • Sharper focus: During a digital detox, you may find that you are more tuned in to your surroundings.
  • Less stress: For some people, too much information can be stressful and overwhelming.
  • Better social interactions: When you eliminate digital distractions, it creates more opportunities to pay attention to those around you.
  • More control of your time: Taking a break from digital devices or media helps you combat compulsive use.

There is ZERO judgment here if you’ve let the online space and social media creep in a bit more than you’d like these days. In this digital age we live in, it’s really easy to do. I can’t wait to hear which version of a digital detox you will do and what steps you will take to improve this area of your health!

In this episode, I cover:

  • Signs that it may be time to digitally disconnect
  • Benefits of taking some time away from the digital life

Episode 30: Debunking Common Weight Loss Myths

If you have known me for a while, you have probably heard me share about how my husband and I love to watch crime shows, particularly Criminal Minds (we’ve been watching the series since the world shut down in 2020 - life with a toddler, right?!). There is something so fascinating about watching them debunk certain theories and get down to the real truth of the matter. So I thought it would be fun to do that on the show - debunk some common weight loss myths and share the facts with you instead.

There is SO MUCH misinformation floating around on the internet, and much of it has been proven that it doesn’t work or has yet to be proven at all, so it’s really understandable why you may get overwhelmed, frustrated, and ready to call it quits before you even get started.

Let’s take a few of these common myths and debunk them: once and for all.

  1. All calories are equal: All calories are indeed units of energy. That’s what a calorie is. BUT this does not mean that all calorie sources have equal effects on your weight and weight loss. For example, calories from protein are different from calories from carbs or fats.
  2. Supplements will help you lose weight: The weight loss industry is completely saturated with juices cleanses, magic diet pills, fat burner pills, weight loss wraps, detoxes, and the list goes on and on and on. There are a few vitamins I do recommend to my clients, but as far as actual weight loss supplements go, very rarely will you find one that is truly effective.
  3. Carbs cause weight gain: Most of the food that God gave us that grows in a garden, on a tree, etc (beans, potatoes, fruit, grains, vegetables) are classified as carbohydrates. These types of carbs given to us by God are incredibly healthy and shouldn’t be taken out of our diets. God gave them to us for a reason.
  4. Fat makes you fat: As with anything, eating fat in the proper portion is good for you: it’s essential actually for optimal brain and heart health. Your body needs fat.
  5. Eat less, move more: You can only keep this up so long - it eventually gets too restrictive to maintain. It works initially, but soon your body’s metabolic rate will slow down and your weight will begin to increase.

These are the BIG ones I see when I talk to clients and potential clients. Weight loss doesn’t have to be as complicated as it’s made out to be - it can actually be really simple. If you’d like to have a conversation about how to make it simple for YOU, fill out the application on my site and let’s have a conversation! Most of all, I want you to be well equipped on your health journey and know WHY you do the things you do.

Since this is the first episode of a brand new year, I thought it would be fun to dive into something on the forefront of most people’s minds…new year’s resolutions.

Did you know that almost 50% of people who make resolutions on New Years want to lose weight? Making resolutions is easy, but keeping them is much harder. Typically 80% of new years resolutions fail within the first year with 20% of those being broken in January alone. So if you’ve made resolutions in the past only to break them within a few weeks…you are not alone.

This is such a vicious and tiring cycle though, isn’t it? There is nothing new about a new year if you continue to repeat the same methods over and over and over again. Nothing changes if nothing changes. And you HAVE to be committed to change to begin to see results.

In order to actually keep your resolution this year and for years to come to achieve lasting weight loss, we have to discuss some of the reasons that weight loss resolutions typically fail:

  1. You aren’t planning: The plan doesn’t have to be hard - in fact, it shouldn’t be. It should be something simple and sustainable that you can stick to daily!
  2. You aren’t committed: Motivation is fleeting. Clearly define your “why” for doing this and find something that truly makes you committed to do the work.
  3. You don’t have support: Without support, it’s hard to gain momentum and keep the consistency going to follow through.
  4. You set unrealistic goals: When you set unrealistic goals, you set yourself up for failure and disappointment.
  5. You forget about grace: Everyone messes up. Don’t beat yourself up - just acknowledge the situation, evaluate it, and get right back on track.

Now that you understand why failure is so common, let’s discuss how to actually keep your weight loss resolutions this year!

  1. You have to track: If you don’t track, you don’t have the data you need to evaluate to make the necessary changes.
  2. Make sure you are eating enough protein! You are doing your body a disservice, both healthwise and in how you want your body to look, by not eating enough protein.
  3. Eat more fiber. Fiber helps keep you full and it helps keep your blood sugar balanced.
  4. Limit added sugars.
  5. Don’t be afraid of carbs. I did an entire podcast on why you shouldn’t be afraid of carbs, so if you haven’t already, please go back and listen to Episode 12: Carbs are not evil!
  6. Keep a journal: 99% of the time, the problem isn’t actually the food, and until you find the real root of the problem, the behavior will continue.
  7. Hire a coach. And not just any coach, but a good coach. There is no one size fits all approach for everyone, and a good coach knows this. If you would like to explore what it would look like to work with a coach, I encourage you to watch my program video and fill out the application.

“Can I eat intuitively and still lose weight?”

This is one of the most common questions I get as a nutrition coach. Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach that helps you become aware of your body’s internal hunger signals and helps heal any relationship you’ve built with food. It is completely understandable that someone would rather choose this approach, especially if they are tired of the restrictive lifestyle that accompanies most “diets.”

In today’s episode, my friend and co-creator of “Feel Wonderful In Your Skin, Amanda Kaldor, dive deep into what exactly intuitive eating IS, what it IS NOT, and our thoughts on using this method as a weight loss strategy.

Weight loss surgery is a controversial topic.

Weight loss surgery has become very common in recent years. However, it’s important to understand that this is a tool among many that still requires you to make many lifestyle changes to experience the results.

In today’s episode, Amanda and I discuss weight loss surgery from a Christian viewpoint: why it’s done, who it’s for, the risks involved, what you can expect, and the mindset shifts that have to happen no matter which route you decide to take.

In this episode, we talk about the journey to positive body image. God made you in an amazing and wonderful way! He sees you as a work of art. He does not look at you critically, but with deep love. Our bodies are His workmanship.

I am a creature of habit. I wake up at the same time each day, follow the same morning routine, eat the same thing for breakfast, etc. I love routine. I thrive on it. It brings me comfort. And boy, don’t we love to be comfortable?!

Routines are created and habits are learned. We continually seek comfort in material things: shopping, alcohol, drugs, social media, FOOD. Yet, these things will never bring us true joy. True joy is found in Christ alone.

In this episode, I invite you to spend some time with the Lord, reflecting on YOUR source of comfort and joy. Are you spending your time seeking false comfort or are you investing in things that bring about true joy?

Is this one area derailing you from seeing the results you desire?

In today’s episode, Amanda and I tackle this obstacle head-on. We often hear women complain about having to cook, not having the time to cook, how long it takes to cook, and on and on…and that stops them from losing weight.

Take a listen to our perspectives on the subject and how to move through this if you find yourself thinking the same thing.

“Can you just write me a meal plan?”

I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve been asked this question, and I get it. Logically, it makes sense. If you have someone telling you exactly what to eat, it should take out the guesswork and you’ll just eat what’s on plan. But that’s not how it works.

For the majority of people, meal plans do not work. Meal plans are a tool, just like a number of things that CAN be used to lose weight or achieve a desired health or fitness goal. But if your goal is to figure out how to eat right for your health or you have a certain body composition goal (meaning you want to lose fat, gain muscle, etc), then depending on a meal plan is not a good idea.

I’ll explain in this episode…

How many times in the last week have you said, “I just don’t have time!?” In this episode, I sat down to chat with Kristen Van Horn about some common misconceptions around time management and ways to take some precious time back.

Kristen Van Horn is a time management coach helping women check off their to-do lists so they can focus on what matters most. Kristen is a former physical education teacher and running coach who longed for more time in her life. She felt like she was missing out on the important moments in her kids' lives and was looking for a way to take control of her time and have the flexibility she desired. She decided to create and build an online business in her "free time" that allowed her to create the schedule she desired and bring her home from her full-time job to pursue entrepreneurship full time while being a mom.

In this episode, we chat about productivity tips, strategies, and hacks to help control our calendar and finally rid ourselves of the excuse "I just don't have enough time!"

Each and every one of us have different responses to different foods. And while food is in fact the best medicine and can be used for healing, there is also a ton of confusion around food allergies and sensitivities.

The two most powerful ways of treating or even reversing hundreds of common diseases are discovering hidden food intolerances and allergies and eating real, whole foods.

In this episode, I discuss the process of treating your body as one functioning system and not just treating the symptoms with a band-aid style approach.

Morning vs Evening workouts. Some people love morning workouts. For those people, working out is part of their morning routine. Other people cannot possibly fathom waking up any earlier than necessary - especially to work out. These people love using their end-of-day workouts to destress and decompress from the day’s events.

So does it really even make a difference at what time of day you choose to workout? Yes and no.

In this episode, I discuss the benefits of both morning and evening workouts and provide clarity on which one is right for you.

A big problem so many people struggle with is knowing how to deal with uncomfortable emotions in a healthy way. Oftentimes, emotions are dealt with by overeating, emotional eating, turning to drugs or alcohol, distraction, avoidance, etc. In this episode, I sit down to chat with Dana Vanwoerden Skoglund about true emotional self-care and how to deal with uncomfortable emotions.

Known as the teacher’s teacher and community leader, Dana Skoglund has been teaching yoga since 2005. However, she realized that in order to help people feel better outside of the

yoga class, she needed to help them transform their daily habits and mindset.

Dana’s passion is contagious. She embodies a warm, light-hearted, and genuine approach in sharing lessons learned as she guides you into living a more intentional, aligned, and self-honoring life.

In this episode, we chat all about emotional self-care, ways to effectively change destructive habits, ways to cope and heal from past experiences, and how making yourself a priority helps not only you but those around you as well - proving once again that self-care isn’t selfish at all.

I truly feel like we as a society are the most stressed out we have ever been. We live in a go-go-go world. It’s like we are punished for taking time to slow down and rest. Hustle culture has taken over, and if we have a free moment in the day, we are pressured into thinking it needs to be filled.

Stress can be a double-edged sword when it pertains to sleep. In this episode, I cover how stress affects the body AND how to break the vicious sleep-stress cycle.

A lot of times reverse dieting is referred to as “the diet after the diet.” To make it simple, a reverse diet is a way to gradually increase calories over a few weeks or months to allow you to eat more food after you’ve been on a “diet.” This increase of calories also increases your metabolism and prevents fat gain or regain. This is how I work with most of my clients to restore their metabolism and push through weight loss plateaus. I know what you’re thinking. Rachel, that doesn’t make sense. You’re telling me to eat MORE and I’ll finally begin to lose weight. Yes. I am. I will explain in this episode ;-)

One of the biggest reasons I see clients fail to succeed when they commit to a plan is because of “people-pleasing” eating. This episode features Christian Weight Loss and Life Coach, Amanda Kaldor. Amanda loves to be curious and explore the amazingness of God and all He’s created. She left her position as a registered nurse to be of greater impact in supporting women in caring for their temples; mind, body, and soul. Now, Amanda coaches women to reclaim their self-control around food so they live life to the full with confidence and joy.

What is “people-pleasing eating”? Why do we do it?
- eating food not because we are physically hungry but because we want another person to feel a certain way
- we do it actually not to make the other person feel that way (out of our control) but so that we can feel a certain way

What are the solutions?
-Self-confidence
-Knowing what you can and can't control
-Giving the gift of kind/honesty

Our mindsets shape our reality, who we are, what we believe to be true. And this is true in every area, our spiritual lives included. Your mindset can either help you grow in your faith and in your walk with Christ or it can keep us stuck in old thought patterns. It is so important to look at how your own mindset is impacting your life, your physical and emotional wellness, and your spiritual growth. I can’t wait to hear what is revealed to you through this episode as you begin to reframe your mindset and implement these shifts moving forward!

“Eating fat makes you fat.” That has been the school of thinking for most Americans for more than two decades now. It’s a theory and myth that has kept our nation’s people sick and overweight. Fat isn’t bad on its own and there is no reason to fear it any longer. So if you banned fat back in the 90s, or if you are still holding on to the belief that eating fat will make you fat, it’s time to jump off that derailed bandwagon ;-)
