Rio Hondo Prep Football is one of the best brands in Southern California and has a proud tradition that includes 14 CIF-SS Championships. Rio Hondo Prep will leave the great State of Texas with a 7-0 record after defeating defending back to back State Champion First Baptist Academy 49-28. Noah Penunuri ran wild for 261 yards and 5 Touchdowns while the Kares rushed for 465 yards as a team. Rio Hondo Prep represented themselves well on the field under the Friday Night Lights of the Lone Star State, but it was the overwhelming support from fans, families, and alumni that were in attendance in Dallas that really showed the exceptionalism of California's most unique program. On the player portion of the podcast we will be joined by Senior OL Jacob Gomez and Senior DB Adrian Mendoza who each made huge contributions on Friday. Head Coach Mark Carson also makes his weekly appearance to recap his team's unprecedented trip across the country in yet another new chapter of Rio Hondo Prep Football.
Rio Hondo Prep (6-0) has never traveled out of state to play a football game. In Week 6 the Kares will be under the Friday Night Lights of Dallas, Texas to take on First Baptist Academy (4-1) in front of their Homecoming crowd. The Saints are defending back to back State Champions in Division 4 of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Our special guest this week is FBA Head Coach Jason Lovvorn who couldn't be more excited to host the 16 time CIF Southern Section Champions from California. Both schools are two of the smallest enrollments out there that play Championship level 11 man football and have more in common than both fan bases may realize. It's the Golden State vs the Lone Star State this Friday night in an unprecedented matchup of small school football programs that accomplish big things on and off the field.
Rio Hondo Prep defeated St Anthony 52-17 on Homecoming and improved to 6-0. The Kares seem to be playing their best football as the weather changes while they make the transition into another chapter of the promising season. There is no telling what this team can accomplish if they continue their consistent climb to greatness. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps another memorable night at Kare Park and discusses the upcoming road trip to take on First Baptist Academy in Dallas next week. It's time for Homecoming at Rio Hondo Prep as the Kares host the St Anthony Saints from Long Beach in Week 5. Although both teams have had very different seasons so far, you can toss out the records and expect a competitive contest under the brightest of lights this Friday night. Our guest this week is 1991 Rio alum David Joe who was a fierce Linebacker for the 1990 CIF Champions. He has been a huge supporter of RHP Football over the years and is a very close friend of Head Coach Mark Carson. Joe takes us down memory lane for some unique stories and shares how playing football at Rio Hondo set him up for his very successful career path.
Rio Hondo Prep improved to 5-0 with an intense and physical 36-7 win over Bellflower High School at Ron Yary Stadium. The Kares led 36-0 at Halftime and came away without any additional injuries at the midpoint of the Regular Season. Despite some early energy from the host Buccaneers, Rio took control of the game early and really delivered a true statement win on the road. Head Coach Mark Carson breaks down all the action from Friday night and sheds light on why RHP Football continues to be played with specific expectations. Seniors Blaize Torrez and David Reyes also make an appearance on the show to discuss their experience with the program.
Rio Hondo Prep is 4-0 and will officially be at the halfway point of the regular season after traveling to Bellflower High School this Friday night. The host Buccaneers are 3-0 and would like nothing better than to avenge last season's blowout loss to the Kares. Our guest is 1982 CIF Champion Scot Moore who was one of Rio Hondo's greatest Running Backs in its illustrious history. Mr Moore was a longtime Leader for the Atlantic Pirates of Kare Youth League where he coached countless future RHP football players. His son KJ was a CIF Champ as well on the 2008 and 2011 teams. Mr Moore's father-in-law Mike Dowd was Rio's first ever football coach, and his wife Lori Moore has been the Principal at Pearl Prep for many years where most of our current team's players spent their elementary school days before moving on to Rio Hondo Prep.
Rio Hondo Prep improved to a 4-0 record with a 49-20 win over the Marquez Gladiators. Head Coach Mark Carson was back on the sidelines this week, and the Kares seemed to have really found their rhythm offensively. We will hear from HCMC for his weekly recap of the game and his excitement for the steady progress of his team. Senior WR/DB Tyler Dang checks in on the pod after scoring 3 Touchdowns for Rio last night. Additionally, Junior OL/LB Troy Seto makes an appearance to talk about how fun it is to play football at RHP.
Rio Hondo Prep will host the Marquez Gladiators on Friday night at Kare Park where both teams will bring 3-0 records into Week 2. The Gladiators have blown out all of their opponents and are averaging 46 points per game. Marquez travels well and you can count on a good showing from their pep squads in Irwindale. Rio Hondo fans have a tailgate planned for 4:00pm so it should be a great environment for high school football. Our guest this week is 2008 CIF Champion Tim Esquerra. He was a smooth Running Back for Rio, and he now runs Esquerra Chiropractic in Pasadena. Esquerra also works with NFL players during their off-season in Hollywood to recover and prepare their bodies for the grueling challenges in Professional Football.
Rio Hondo Prep improved to 3-0 with a dominating 43-0 win over Maranatha on the road. The Kares played inspired football due the absence of their fearless leader Head Coach Mark Carson who was dealing with an unexpected medical issue. Not only did Rio play a complete 4 quarter game, but they did so with contributions from a wide range of players. Today we are blessed to have Coach Carson on for his weekly appearance as he shares the challenging 72 hours that he and his family experienced. Additionally, we are joined by Senior RB Deven Gomez and Senior LB Ethan Lo who continue to make the most of every opportunity in front of them playing football for Rio Hondo.
Rio Hondo Prep makes their first road trip of the season on a short week to face the Maranatha Minutemen on Thursday night. Both teams are 2-0 much like last year's matchup and each have their own contrasting styles. The Minutemen have one of the area's top quarterbacks that could potentially be a major problem for the Kares if they cannot get to him to disrupt his rhythm. Rio needs to find some consistency on offense and force some turnovers on defense for them to be successful against a very talented opponent. Our guest this week is 2005 CIF Champion Kurt Coulter who was a fierce warrior on the gridiron and one of the best to ever suit up for Rio Hondo. Coulter shares some incredible memories from his playing days and explains the great work he is doing today helping those in Recovery of substance abuse.
Rio Hondo Prep improved to 2-0 after a 28-21 victory over the Quartz Hill Royals. The Kares trailed in the 4th Quarter and had to put together two decisive drives to retake the lead on both of their final possessions of the game. Head Coach Mark Carson shares his excitement for the fact that his team is responding to adversity in the best way possible. HCMC is confident the team will continue to grow going forward. Our player portion of the podcast features Senior Quarterback Yanick Diaz who is a Team Captain with the determination to lead Rio Hondo into unprecedented heights.
Quartz Hill makes the long trip from Lancaster to Irwindale this Friday night to take on Rio Hondo Prep. The Royals might be coming off a tough loss in their opener last week, but this program has seen plenty of great success in recent years with Southern Section Championships in 2017 and 2021. Our guest this week is Jake Lyons who graduated from RHP in 2020. Jake played a part on one of Rio's biggest ever Offensive Lines and competed in some memorable Playoff Games during his career. Lyons has recently moved to Hawaii to continue his education in college and even though life on the Island could be considered Paradise, you can bet his heart will be back on the Mainland under those Friday Night Lights.
In the opening game of the 2025 Season, the Rio Hondo Prep Kares answered major adversity with a resounding response. After trailing the Schurr Spartans for most of the 1st Half and without their best player, RHP flipped a switch that led to suffocating defense pressure and 3 explosive Touchdowns on offense. The Kares took the game over in the 2nd Half and came away with a 20-9 victory. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the hard fought win and how his team pushed forward despite some early setbacks. Senior RB/DB Calogero Chico checks in as well after leading Rio with 118 yards rushing on 9 carries and 1 Touchdown.
The long wait is officially over. It is game week for the Rio Hondo Prep Kares as they host the Schurr Spartans in what many could argue is the most anticipated Opener since Rio took on Arcadia back in 2012. Our very special guest, Tarek Fattal, will help us kickoff the 2025 Season with a bang. You can find Tarek on CBS alongside Jim Hill on Sundays as Fattal shares his thoughts on high school sports across the Southland. Additionally, Tarek Fattal writes for Sports Illustrated and has been covering high school athletics for a decade. He and I have a long discussion about the noise Rio Hondo Prep has made the past few seasons as well as where they stand among other successful programs. Tarek Fattal has also started a YouTube show every Monday night dedicated to the best high school football coverage in Southern California. You will be ready to run through a brick wall after this episode, but we will settle for you coming out to Kare Park in Irwindale as the Spartans and Kares go at it with the utmost respect for one another and a pride in their schools that could hold its own amongst the best in the area.
We are just one week away from kicking off the 2025 Football Season. As we close out our Senior Sons episodes, the parents of Yanick Diaz and Tyler Dang take us across the finish line. Both of their sons are Team Captains this year and have made massive contributions to both Championship runs in 2023 and 2024. Diaz and Dang have hit on plenty of big plays in the passing game over the years as a Quarterback and Wide Receiver duo. Their connection through the air and their leadership on the field should put Rio Hondo Prep in a great position to do something historic once again in their Last Dance.
As the boys are back on the practice field, we hear from another couple of moms and dads from our Senior Families. Today we have the parents of Easton Jara and Jacob Gomez to discuss what the past 3 years at Rio Hondo Prep have meant to their families. Both young men arrived at RHP under very different circumstances, and it goes to show you just how special the Rio recipe can be with a wide range of ingredients. Gomez has been plagued by season ending injuries the past two years, and he couldn't be more hungry to finish things off in the strongest way possible. While Jara is a dedicated Soccer player who will end up competing at the next level in College, he is embracing the opportunity to contribute to Rio Hondo Football and might end up making a bigger impact than he or his family could have ever imagined.
In another edition of our Senior Sons episodes, we are joined by the parents of Elijah Gavia and Jace Frary. Both families share the importance of how Rio Hondo Prep has helped in the development of their young men and how the program sets itself apart from anything else out there because of everything it offers. Elijah Gavia has been the big man in the trenches for his whole career at RHP and has been a force to be reckoned with for the Kares. Jace Frary might just be one of Rio's tallest players on the field which will certainly come into play on both sides of the football in this season.
In the latest edition of the Senior Sons episodes during our Summer podcasts, we are joined by the parents of Calogero Chico and Diego Raygoza. Both of these young men have been with the program for the last 3 years and are poised to get their name on a 3rd Banner in the Stivers Center down on campus. Chico has been one of Rio's best pound for pound players all around and is a gritty tackler. Raygoza has worked hard in the trenches on both sides of the ball and has some real opportunities to step up big this coming season. You will once again see that when it comes to football players at Rio Hondo Prep, their families are the ones who embrace the endless possibilities and also love seeing their sons pushed to be the absolute best they can be.
As we continue our Senior Sons episodes, we are joined by the parents of Rainn Pollock and Nathaniel Shine. Both of these Seniors have played Varsity since they were Freshmen, and their families have plenty of fond memories to reflect on over the past three seasons. Rainn and Nathaniel have made several huge plays on Defense over the years but don't be surprised if they put up some numbers on Offense in the final chapter of their playing career at Rio Hondo Prep. Rainn Pollock and Nathaniel Shine each have big smiles than can light up a room, but their intensity on a football field is no laughing matter. When it comes down to it, both young men know how to step up in a big way when the lights shine brightest.
As we begin a string of episodes with the families of our new batch of Seniors, the proud parents of David Reyes and Noah Penunuri get things started. Both families reside in the city of Glendora and I am proud to call them neighbors. We reflect on the past two incredible football seasons and how excited they are as their sons begin one final chapter of their playing careers at Rio Hondo Prep. When you look at the respect and humility that our players carry at all times, look no further than the parents that raised them.
The boys are back in town from their 4 week Tour of Europe. The Rio Football Team traveled all over the Continent as their journey took them to England, Germany, Czech Republic, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Italy. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps "The Trip," as it is known among the RHP Family, and takes us behind the scenes of a month that is not comparable to another experience any teenager around the country will take part in with his teammates. The spiritual growth, historical knowledge, mature responsibility, and brotherhood bond learned on these Trips are just some of the reasons that set Rio Hondo Prep apart from all the rest. Rio Hondo Prep opens the 2025 Season with a highly anticipated showdown against the Schurr Spartans from Montebello on August 22nd. This is arguably the biggest matchup of all the Week 0 games in the San Gabriel Valley. Austin Montoya is the new Head Coach at Schurr HS after serving as an Assistant the past few seasons. His first game will be against the back to back CIF-SS Champion RHP Kares and he couldn't be more excited for the early challenge. Coach Montoya discusses the history of his program and why they wanted to get this game on the schedule. In exactly 7 weeks, the Spartans and the Kares will meet between the lines for what many expect to be a huge opening test for both schools.
There were roughly a dozen players on last year's championship team that got their start playing football under the coaching of Mr Don Mosher who has dedicated his life in service to Kare Youth League. Mr Mosher is as humble as they come and today we honor him as our very special guest to celebrate the 4th of July. Don was drafted in 1969 and served a tour in Vietnam as a Sergeant and Squad Leader. Although he will say he was just doing his duty and following God's plan, his brave effort and dependable leadership make him a shining example of the countless veterans we owe a debt of honor to that can never be repaid. Please join me once again this year in reflecting, remembering, and respecting all of those who have helped pave the way for our Freedom.

You can find Jeff Fairley on the Rio Hondo Prep sideline every football season. He intently observes the action and patiently stands at the ready in case his services are needed. Dr Fairley specializes in Physical Therapy and is one of the highly qualified members of the RHP Medical Team. As a 1992 Rio grad himself, he knows just how committed the Kares are to fighting for their team. We discuss why Rio Hondo football is special, the road to recovery for athletes, and how his path has led him exactly where he was meant to be. Dr Fairley works with patients at The Body Center in Claremont and teaches future Physical Therapists at Western University in Pomona.
Doug Walsh has been the official Team Doctor for Rio Hondo Prep Football for countless decades. As a Rio alum himself, he understands just how important the program is and why it continues to be so special. Dr Walsh was a key contributor for the 1977 CIF Champions who defeated Montclair Prep in the legendary Triple Overtime thriller. He talks about his days playing along some memorable teammates and what propelled him to become a Physician. Dr Walsh also discusses his 4 year stint as a Missionary in Kenya as well as the challenges that go into tough decisions for treating our student athletes.
Jason McMains has been the Head Coach at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside the past 4 seasons. In the 2nd Round of the 2024 CIF-SS Playoffs, his football team squared off against Rio Hondo Prep. Coach McMains was not sure what to expect that night. He had heard of RHP before, but like most teams out there, you need to battle them between the lines to truly understand their program. Coach McMains recaps that playoff game from last November while offering his insight from the perspective of a recent Rio opponent. He discusses the respect he has for Coach Carson and how impressive it is the way the Kares go about their business.
As we kickoff the fourth season of the Charge To Keep podcast, there are countless blessings to reflect on. The 16 time Southern Section Champions are coming off back to back titles and a loss in the State Final by 1 yard. The one question to be asked of the Rio Program is: Are You Satisfied? Head Coach Mark Carson helps us kickstart another season of Rio Hondo Football with some insight into the summer schedule and the expectations moving forward this fall. In somewhat of a surprise ending to today's show, we reveal some special messages to Coach Carson from family members, former players, and current coaches as he celebrates his 50th birthday this weekend.
Rio Hondo Prep will take on University High School from Irvine in the CIF Southern Section Finals this Friday morning at 10:00am. Although RHP is the designated home team, the Trojans will feel right at home with the game being played at Deanna Manning Stadium just 3 miles from their campus. The Kares reached the Championship Game only one previous time 46 years ago back in 1979. The 2025 squad could potentially make history and hang a new type of banner in the very crowded rafters of the Stivers Center back in Arcadia. Our special guests today are Juniors Janna Taflinger and Madison Burl who both possess the energy, enthusiasm, and humility that embodies the true meaning of what it is to be a Kare. It is up to the faithful fans and passionate alumni of Rio to get out to support these young women early on Friday morning as they represent the proud tradition that is Rio Hondo Prep.
For the first time in 45 years, Rio Hondo Prep is back in the CIF Softball Semifinals. Rio's best finish ever was as a Runner Up back in 1979 as well as a return trip to the Semis in 1980. After three big wins this postseason, the 2025 Kares are among the final four teams standing in the Division 6 Southern Section Playoffs. Rio Hondo is coming off a dramatic 12-11 win over Katella in the Quarterfinals that displayed just how gritty this team truly is. Joining us today are Ryen Covey and Allie Scott who are Team Captains that have demonstrated tremendous leadership all throughout the season. They are poised to continue this magical postseason run and give the RHP Faithful something amazing to cheer for.

The Rio Hondo Prep Girls Basketball Program is ready for its Postseason appearance after another successful year on the hardwood. The Kares are a young group consisting of only Juniors and Freshmen. Rio is led by Tara Riley who has been a standout in all RHP Athletics for the past 3 years. Tara is our guest today to tell us a little bit about herself as well as shed light on the Rio Hondo experience. In other big news, the Rio Boys Soccer Team has been selected to the CIF-SS Playoffs for the first time in school history. The California Division 3A State Championship was an Instant Classic and came down to the final play in Overtime to settle the score. Vanden from Fairfield defeated Rio Hondo Prep 42-41 after the Kares were stopped at the 1 yard line on their 2 Point Conversion attempt. The game featured countless lead changes and was full of drama. Vanden threw the ball all over the field while Rio Hondo ran wild inside and outside. Both contrasting styles of offense scored 35 points in regulation were the only teams out of the 15 State Matchupsthis weekend that went to OT. Head Coach Mark Carson joins us for one final time to recap a truly heroic effort from his team that unfortunately ended in heartbreak. It’s difficult to say goodbye at the end of a season, but we will do our best to thank countless people as we wrap up the third season of the Charge To Keep podcast. Rio Hondo Prep has won 16 Southern Section Titles throughout its illustrious history. On Saturday night at Long Beach City College, the 2024 Kares (13-1) will compete for a chance to capture its first ever State Championship and will do so against the Vanden Vikings (12-2) who are making the long trip down from Northern California. Both teams are riding 8 game winning streaks and are polar opposites on the Offensive side of the ball. The Vikings love to throw it; the Kares love to run it. These two very different styles will collide on Saturday at Veterans Stadium for a 7:00pm Kickoff to see whose brand of ball can shine brightest in the Golden State. Getting us ready for RHP playing on their biggest stage ever is our guest Casey Clevenger. He played in Rio's first ever Southern Section Final back in 1972 and has been a Teacher there for countless decades while keeping a close eye on the football program he loves dearly.
Rio Hondo Prep overcame some significant adversity early on in Saturday night's Division 3A Regional down in San Diego. The Kares were tied with the host Poway Titans 7-7 at Halftime and eventually pulled away for a 28-14 gritty victory to advance to the school's first State Championship Game in their illustrious history. Rio Hondo is one of only thirty teams in California that get to play football next week out of nearly 1,300 schools in the Golden State. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the emotional win and how his team continues to answer the bell with every challenge set before them. We also have Junior DB Calogero Chico on the show who made a few huge plays for a Rio defense that continued their rough and tough performance throughout this memorable Postseason.
After winning the school’s 16th CIF Southern Section Championship last week, the Rio Hondo Prep Kares (12-1) will travel 120 miles down to San Diego County to take on the Poway Titans (6-7) in the California Division 3A State Regional. The Titans have caught fire in the San Diego Section Playoffs scoring 18 touchdowns in their final two games. However, the Kares bring a staunch defense into December having only allowed six touchdowns the past four postseason games. Something has to give when both teams kickoff on Saturday with dreams of a State Championship Game appearance so close they can taste it. Dayna Rivera is an RHP graduate whose husband Colby is Rio’s all time passing leader that won CIF-SS Titles in 2011 and 2012. Her father, Richard Sanchez, is a Coach on Poway’s staff. Dayna joins us briefly to react to the very unique matchup for her family and the various emotions going into the big game. Additionally, we are joined by Brian Reed-Baiotto from 210 Prep Sports for an extended conversation on the Rio Hondo Prep Football Program.
Don't tell the Rio Hondo Prep Kares they can't compete with someone. For countless generations, Rio has outperformed their expectations. The Kares showed on Friday night that they back down to absolutely nobody as they defeated Warren High School 43-16 in the CIF-SS D7 Final to capture the school's 16th Southern Section Championship. This game will be immortalized as a night where RHP stood up to the new playoff format, the impossible odds, and the literal giants from a very large school. The accomplishment for Rio Hondo was as eye opening as it was dominant. The small school in Arcadia made its biggest statement in their illustrious history that their program is not only unlike any other but also a consistent championship contender wherever, whenever, or against whoever when battle lines are drawn. Rio Hondo Prep has slayed countless Goliaths over their 57 year history on the gridiron. The Warren Bears from Downey are a giant among giants and the biggest challenge RHP has ever faced. The 3,635-120 enrollment discrepancy is the elephant in the room, but the Kares enter the 2024 CIF-SS Division 7 Finals with the brotherhood, toughness, and discipline that is unmatched throughout Southern California. Year in and year out, when Rio Hondo is counted out, they deliver results that no script writer could come up with. Let's see what the program that has withstood the test of time can stand up against when it matters most just one more time...... our special guest today is Mark Herrera who is better known on social media as "Mark The Shark." Herrera does team rankings and player watch lists all throughout the now year round coverage of high school football. Shark first took notice of Rio after they beat his nephew's Charter Oak team in 2021, and he also took in his first game at Kare Park last week in the Semifinals. Mark The Shark reacts to Rio Hondo Prep's eye opening win in person last week and why they are now among the elite programs in the San Gabriel Valley. The Rio Hondo Prep Kares are headed back to the CIF Southern Section Finals. Rio defeated the West Torrance Warriors 42-21 in front of a capacity crowd at Kare Park in Irwindale after six consecutive Playoff Games on the road dating back to last season. The Kares played with a violent passion and deadly execution that can only be described as "Rio Hondo Football." Head Coach Mark Carson discusses the iconic win that will send his team to their 22nd Championship Game in the school's history as they pursue a 16th Banner. Junior RB/DE Nathaniel Shine makes a return to the show from his previous appearance after last year's Semifinal to share how he and his teammates are locked in with laser focus. Rio Hondo Prep has one of the smallest enrollments around but the presence of the alumni from various decades is something unmatched by any other program, and it will be needed again next week with a continued Championship Effort.
Rio Hondo Prep (10-1) will host West Torrance (10-2) in the CIF-SS Division 7 Semifinals after six consecutive postseason games on the road over the past two years. This is arguably the biggest home playoff game in school history and the most significant moment at Kare Park since Rio began playing their home contests there in Irwindale. Our special guest is Chris Fore who is the Principal at Mojave HS in Hesperia. Twenty years ago, Fore was the Head Coach of a Linfield Christian team that took on the Kares in RHP's first ever 11 Man Semifinal in a game he will never forget. That night Coach Fore learned just how special the small school in Arcadia truly was, and he has been a fan of RHP ever since. Chris Fore has written multiple books on successful coaching and continues to be a major advocate of high school football in California through many different avenues.

For the second consecutive week, Rio Hondo Prep traveled to Riverside and took down the home team in the CIF-SS Playoffs. The Kares played their sixth consecutive postseason game on the road and defeated Martin Luther King HS 28-7 to advance to Division 7 Semifinals which will now be arguably the biggest home playoff game in school history. The Never Say Die Rio Hondo defense was phenomenal all night long while the offense was led by Noah "Noahvember" Penunuri with over 200 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Rio Hondo Prep (9-1) will travel back to Riverside in consecutive weeks to take on King High School (8-3) for the 2nd Round of the CIF-SS Division 7 Playoffs. Both the Kares and the Wolves are coming off of 1st Round upset wins on the road in which both defenses not only shutout their opponents but also caused a plethora of turnovers. Rio Hondo is on the road for their 6th straight Postseason game and are relishing the opportunity to reach the Semifinals in the highest division they've ever competed in. Tim Lunney is our guest this week who is not only a teacher at Rio but also gives of his time on game days to capture all kinds of great photographs of RHP Football. Tim's father was the late great Defensive Coordinator Gary Lunney who we all loved dearly for his humorous yet intense approach to coaching up the Kares.
Rio Hondo Prep completely dominated Ramona High School in Riverside for a decisive victory in the 1st Round of the Division 7 CIF-SS Playoffs. The Kares played extremely physical on defense and executed their offense to near perfection as they frustrated the previously unbeaten defending State Champion Rams. Ramona suited up more players than Rio has boys in the entire high school and yet the Kares refused to back down from the highly anticipated fight. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the gutsy performance from his team as they will travel back to Riverside in the 2nd Round to take on the MLK Wolves. Rio Hondo Prep (8-1) will travel to Riverside for the 1st Round of the CIF-SS Division 7 Playoffs to take on the Ramona Rams (10-0). The game features two Southern Section Champions from last season in Division 9 and 11 respectively. The Rams also won a State Title and are a very balanced football team. Rio is an underdog on the road once again and wouldn't have it any other way. Our alumni guest is Ryan Westervoorde (RHP 2002) who was a two time CIF Champ in 2000 and 2001. Ryan is a dedicated fan of his alma mater who almost never misses a game in person. We need every man, woman, and child to match his energy this Friday out in the Inland Empire for some Playoff Football! Win or Go Home........ It is Selection Sunday for the CIF Southern Section Football Playoffs! We react in real time as the brackets are released with Head Coach Mark Carson. The Kares will travel to Riverside for a 1st Round matchup with 10-0 Ramona High School. The Rams not only won a Division 11 Southern Section title last season but were also crowned State Champions as well. Rio Hondo has a tremendous challenge in front of them but are enthusiastic about the incredible opportunity. We are also joined by Senior Captain OL/DL Ivan Tkach to chat about his experience playing football at Rio.
The regular season is in the books as Rio Hondo Prep defeated the Brentwood Eagles 42-22 to capture the Gold Coast League Championship and an automatic bid to the Southern Section Playoffs. Rio will enjoy a week off as they patiently wait to see what division they will be placed in on Selection Sunday next weekend. It has been 1,106 days since Rio Hondo Prep has defeated the Brentwood Eagles. The past 2 seasons have been a humbling experience for the Kares when they have lined up against their league rivals from West Los Angeles. In the last game of the regular season, RHP faces BHS one more time with the Gold Coast League Championship on the line as well as the only automatic bid to the CIF-SS Playoffs. Former Rio great Alex Tayco joins the show to talk about the 2 Championship Teams he was on in 2008 and 2011. Alex is currently an Ambulance Operator and has also served as a Firefighter in the Forest Service as a Hotshot in the past. The Tayco family name is one of the most iconic in Rio Hondo history, and Alex is the perfect guy to get us in the right mindset for the biggest game of the season.
Homecoming is always a special night at Rio Hondo Prep and this year was no different. The Kares were victorious over the Viewpoint Patriots 54-19 as Kare Park in Irwindale was filled to capacity with fans and alumni. The Halftime Show included an enthusiastic performance by the girls of Kare Youth League as well as a humorous Snow White themed skit by recent graduates to reveal the Homecoming Court. In order to keep the party going, we are joined by Senior Homecoming Queen Sam Montez, Senior Defensive Back Josh Curtis, and Head Coach Mark Carson. It has been a memorable season thus far but now all eyes and attention shift to the incoming clash with the Brentwood Eagles in the regular season finale.
Rio Hondo Prep (6-1) welcomes the Viewpoint Patriots (5-2) into Kare Park for Homecoming and the Gold Coast League opener after both teams had a Bye last week. With only 1 automatic qualifier from the 3 team league, it is fair to say that the Playoffs unofficially begin right now. Ryan Wiley is a rather distinguished RHP alumnus who not only won two football championships in 2011 and 2012 but was also the leading scorer on Rio's first ever basketball title in 2013. Wiley continued to play hoops in college and now works as Behavioral Health Specialist down in the Temecula area. Let's see as many Kare fans as possible the next two weeks for the final home games of the season!
Rio Hondo Prep made the 360 mile trip to Northern California and came away with a 24-0 victory at The King's Academy up in the Bay Area. The Kares and the Knights played a very physical game after some pleasantries and fellowship the night before. The Rio defense played their best game of the season as they forced 3 turnovers and recorded 3 sacks in a shutout performance. Head Coach Mark Carson fills us in on the unique road trip and how Rio Hondo played in their final game before league play begins. Additionally, Senior OL/DL Zach Burl (AKA Big B) joins the show from his hotel room at the Embassy Suites to talk about a memorable football weekend on the road.
In a battle of Northern California vs Southern California, Rio Hondo Prep (5-1) will travel 360 miles up to Sunnyvale to take on the King's Academy Knights (1-3) in a game that will be the furthest RHP has traveled in their history. The Kares look to rebound immediately following their loss to Torrance last week and are poised to get back on track. Many players, coaches, and families will also be attending the Cal game in Berkely on Saturday as Ryan McCulloch and the Golden Bears host the #7 ranked Miami Hurricanes. Our guest today is 2000 Rio graduate Matt Heady who was a Football Champion in 1998 and Baseball Runner Up in 1999. Heady shares some fond memories from the past and why it is a "great time to be a Kare."
Rio Hondo Prep fell to 5-1 on the 2024 Season with a 28-21 loss to the Torrance Tartars at Louis Zamperini Stadium down in the South Bay. The game featured two defending champions who did everything they could to not give up their Title Belt. Rio battled mightily all the way to the end and appear to be ready for any fight that comes their way down the road. Coach Carson reacts to the first loss of the season and what it means in the big picture for his program. Junior RB/LB Noah Penunuri also swings by to discuss where the team is at and where they want to go.
Rio Hondo Prep takes their 5-0 record into Louis Zamperini Stadium on Friday night to face the 4-0 Torrance Tartars. The two schools are both defending CIF-SS Champions from Division 9 and 10 respectively. The matchup has the drama, buildup, and storylines of a massive Title Fight with the Unification of Championship Belts on the line. Rio legend Mike Whiteside joins the show to share some memories from a very special era at RHP and the close life long relationships that resulted from it. Rio Hondo Prep improved to 5-0 with a 44-6 victory over the Bellflower Buccaneers. On Senior Night, the Kares honored their 4th year players with starting spots and a ceremony before kickoff. Rio scored in all 3 phases of the game, and it was once again won with key contributions from the entire roster. Coach Carson talks about the near flawless performance and presenting a game ball to dedicated fan Dave Heersema on his 70th birthday. Senior Quarterback Landry Johnson also joins the show after throwing a touchdown pass and catching a touchdown pass in last night's win.

Rio Hondo Prep travels to Huntington Park for their first Friday game of the season as they face off against the Marquez Gladiators. The environment should be rather electric and a true tough test on the road for the Kares. Dean Sloan is our featured guest this week and shares his thoughts on how Rio Hondo Football sets itself apart in many ways. Mr Sloan is a successful businessman, former Army Ranger, and major contributor to KYL/RHP. He was awarded the 2024 Kare Service Award which is presented to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the organization. Dean Sloan is also on the Board of Directors for Kare Youth League and provides a unique perspective in doing so. The Kares were nearly flawless on both sides of the ball as they rushed for over 400 yards and stifled their opponent with intense physical play. Six different Rio players scored the team's eight touchdowns on the night. Rio Hondo Prep (2-0) hosts Maranatha (2-0) at Kare Park this Saturday night in a highly anticipated matchup. The kickoff of a new season has arrived. The Kares open their 2024 campaign with the visiting Francis Parker Lancers from San Diego this Saturday night. It has been a summer full of anticipation and the wait is finally over. Joining us today is long time football official Bob Gordon, who will discuss some points of emphasis this year in regard to the rules. I had the privilege to work many games with Bob in the past and this will be his 50th season on the gridiron. Another guest we have is RHP alum Evan Foor, who led Rio to its first ever Baseball Championship in his Senior year of 2019. Evan is currently an All Conference Pitcher at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and shares fond memories of his experience as a Quarterback at Rio Hondo Prep from just a few short years ago. Rio Hondo Prep held their Meet The Team event on Friday night for families, fans, and alumni to get their first look at the 2024 squad. Kare Park in Irwindale was in midseason form as spectators flooded the concourse to take in one of the best high school football environments around even it was a week early. We tried our first remote podcast right on the field to bring you all the sights and sounds of the evening. Kyle Horton, Josh Taflinger, and Colby Johnson all stopped by for short discussions about the new season and continued high expectations of the program. You get to meet each member of the team individually as they get in front of the camera for their player profiles providing some brief information about them. The 2024 campaign is officially underway, and our first pregame show will air this Thursday.
Rio Hondo Prep wrapped up their first week of Fall Camp with a practice in full pads on Saturday. We have you covered for the sights and sounds of the boys back on the grass at historic Kare Field. The instant promotion to Senior is full of serious responsibilities and final possibilities. Over the next few weeks, we will be joined by the proud parents of the young men who will lead the way for Rio going forward. One thing we can all agree on is that it will be over in the blink of an eye, so you should cherish every second. Happy 4th of July! Major Bill Lee spent 20 years in the United States Marine Corps and completed multiple combat deployments to Iraq. He is a proud alumnus of Rio Hondo Prep and won a CIF Championship back in 1990 alongside one of his brothers. Bill embodies the giving spirit of the great Lee family in their life long service to others. Back in 2005, Bill was the Strength and Conditioning Coach as well as the Offensive Line Coach for Rio Hondo Prep's first ever 11 man championship. Coach Mark Carson considers Major Lee one of his closest friends and a shining example of what RHP graduates can become. It is truly an honor to have a humble hero like Bill Lee as our very special guest to celebrate another Independence Day. Thank you to all who have served and protected us throughout our history.
Rod Heaton was one of the fiercest football players in Rio Hondo Prep history. His intimidating presence and intense athleticism put him amongst the all time greats to ever wear the crest on their helmet. Back when I was in 4th grade, Mr Heaton was in his 20s and served as an assistant coach of mine that had a tremendous impact on me and my Gator teammates. He would pick us up for Church and take us on all kinds of fun unique outings. I used to love hearing stories from his high school playing days as we rode around in his pickup truck listening to the latest movie soundtrack music. Mr Heaton was a joy to be around, and I smile often when I think back to some of the best times with him when I was a kid. I really wish I could have seen him play on the field. Rod's team made it to the 1987 Title Game in his senior year. Wally Ashby is a Patrol Sergeant with the Arcadia Police Department and a proud graduate from Rio Hondo Prep in 1993. Back when he was a Senior at Prep, Wally coached me and my 2nd grade teammates on the Gators in Kare Youth League. The first time I ever went to a Rio football game was to watch Coach Wally on the gridiron. We chat about the impact on KYL kids when they go watch their assistant coaches play for Rio Hondo and then dream about following in their footsteps. Wally has also been a high school basketball coach with successful stops at St Lucy's and Bishop Amat as well as La Salle where he currently coaches. Back when I was in 2nd grade, I wanted to wear the Rio Hondo Prep uniform someday just like Coach Wally.

Greg Bolinger was one of the original founders of the Glendora Gators in Kare Youth League. He was also a member of two championship teams at Rio Hondo Prep in 1977 and 1979. Mr Bolinger was my first Leader in KYL back when I joined the program in 2nd grade. We reflect on some great memories at Wingate Park and his playing days at RHP. I attended my first Rio football game for a Gator team Outing as has become a tradition for many clubs over the years. Mr Bolinger has a deep connection to Rio Hondo Football. His son Clark is the play by play broadcaster on the NFHS Network, his daughter Darcy is the Cheerleading Coach, and his late father-in-law was the legendary Coach Randall Johnson. Greg Bolinger also made one of the biggest tackles in RHP Football history in the 1977 Title Game.

Gary Shintaku was my Leader for most of my time in Kare Youth League. He coached me in 3rd-5th grade on the Gators and taught me more lessons than I can count. His attention to detail and ability to challenge our teams at such a young age absolutely prepared us all for bigger things down the road. Mr Shintaku played in the famous 1977 CIF Championship against Montclair Prep that is nearly unanimous as the greatest Rio Hondo Prep game ever played at Kare Field. We discuss his teammates from that incredible era of RHP Football and why the great tradition has stood the test of time. Gary Shintaku is one of many coaches I had in Kare Youth League that sparked my passion for Rio. In this Spring Sports Special, we acknowledge all three Rio Hondo Prep teams that will be competing in the CIF Playoffs at the same time. It will be an exciting Tuesday with the Softball Team hosting Southlands Christan at 3:15pm followed by a home game at 6:00pm for the Volleyball Team which takes on Samueli Academy. The Baseball pairings will be announced Monday morning, and we could very likely have all three of our teams playing on the same day. It's postseason time once again for the Rio Hondo Prep Girls Basketball Team. The 17-7 Kares are headed to Whittier this Thursday night to take on the 13-14 La Serna Lances in the 1st Round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3A Playoffs. Our special guests are Emma Carson and Sydney Diaz who are both Seniors and Captains on this RHP team. They were also Homecoming Queen and Senior Princess back in the Fall on the Homecoming Court. The ladies talk about the contributions from their teammates and the overall team chemistry their special group has in playing together. They are all excited to keep their journey going into the Playoffs, and we the Rio Hondo Family can't wait to get out and support them. Go Rio!

Rio Hondo Prep's magical season came to a close up in Central California in the Division 4-A State Regionals. The Kares fell 29-14 to Mission Oak of Tulare in a back and forth game that could have gone either direction. The 210 Prep Sports media outlet named Head Coach Mark Carson as its Coach Of The Year; it also named Noah Penunuri and Nate Curtis as Co-Players Of The Year. Coach Carson makes one final appearance to recap the season and honor the Seniors from his team. We also discuss what lies ahead for the program and some thoughts on next season. It has been an honor to write the lyrics for the incredible music that the program has produced over the past few months. May we continue to create more melodies and harmonies in the future forever. Rio Hondo Prep is 13-1 and won the CIF Southern Section Division 9 Championship last week and was selected into the Division 4-A State Playoffs this Saturday. The Kares will travel 185 miles to Tulare, CA to take on the 9-5 Mission Oak Hawks who were the CIF Central Section Division 3 Champions. Rio Hondo Prep won its 15th CIF-SS Championship in school history with a 29-27 instant classic on Friday night over Santa Monica High School. It came down to the final play and was witnessed by thousands of RHP faithful both in person and watching the online broadcast. We could not be prouder of the young men who have grown before our very eyes and represented countless generations with poise, class, and grit. The Rio Hondo Prep football team had their final practice this morning in preparation for the CIF Finals tomorrow and we could all not be more excited. My dad, brother, and I reminisce about some RHP football memories and why the program will always be special to us. It's time to eat! Enjoy the family, fellowship, and of course football. Coach Steven Gholar is a Professional Athletic Performance Trainer that has worked with countless athletes over the years at all levels. The past few years he has enjoyed working with many athletes from Rio Hondo Prep and is impressed with their character, work ethic, and perseverance. The Rio kids he has trained with has made him a huge fan of the program, and he wants to continue the relationship going forward. Coach Gholar was a former Boys Christian League member in the 1970s and his children played in Kare Youth League not too long ago. Mike Dowd has dedicated his entire life to serving others in Boys Christian League, Kare Youth League, and Rio Hondo Prep. He was the first head coach for RHP football and led the Kares to their first title 50 years ago in 1973. Throughout his coaching career, he has not only pushed young men to be the best they can be but also impacted them to carry on the tradition of serving others through leadership. His subtle fingerprints can still be found throughout the Rio Hondo football program to this day and is one of the many reasons it continues to be among the most special stories out there. It all began 50 years ago when Mr Dowd raised Rio's first blue trophy, and the stage is set for the Kares to hoist it again for the 15th time out of 22 championship game appearances.

Rio Hondo Prep is headed to their 22nd CIF Final in school history after their 31-14 victory at Vista Del Lago in Moreno Valley. The Kares played with poise and passion in their conquest of a 15th football banner to be raised in the Styver's Center on campus. Noah Penunuri led the team with over 170 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns. The stifling Rio defense bent but did not break all night long and intercepted the Ravens 3 times. Head Coach Mark Carson recaps the big night out in Riverside County and soaks up his first trip to the Finals since he has been Captain of the ship. Sophomore RB/DL Nathaniel Shine made a splash return to the field with a 30 yard touchdown run after not seeing the field for 7 weeks due to injury and joins us today for our player segment.

The 2023 football season will be the end of the road for the seniors from the Class of 2024. Every one of us know what it’s like to take that helmet off for the last time. This 2023 season will be the 50th anniversary of Rio Hondo Prep's first CIF Championship in school history. Back in 1973, the Kares were coming off of a heartbreaking Runner Up finish the year prior where they scored more touchdowns than the team that beat them. They played Six Man Football in those days, but the program has come a long way since then. Rocky Seto was on the coaching staff for the USC Trojans and Seattle Seahawks under Pete Carroll that won back to back National Championships as well as Super Bowl XLVIII. In 2017, he left coaching to serve as the Senior Pastor for Evergreen Baptist Church of San Gabriel Valley in La Puente, CA where he still preaches to this day. Coach Seto will return to the sidelines this upcoming season as a Chaplain and Consultant for Rio Hondo Prep. Benjamin Jacobs spent 12 years as a Navy Seal. He is still active duty for the Navy as an Under Sea Medical Officer. BJ has gone on countless deployments and defended our country admirably. Before the military he played football at Rio Hondo Prep and graduated in 1998. BJ was on two CIF championship teams in 1996 and 1997 as well as a runner up finish in 1995. As a total team guy, he contributed any way the team needed him. Personally I have fond memories of watching BJ Jacobs as gritty punt returner who made big plays in the biggest moments. Working primarily as a Sniper in the Seals, BJ shares his journey through the harshest training imaginable to become a member of America's most elite fighting force. He gives high praise to his experience at Rio Hondo Prep and how God directed him as a lifelong learner to better himself every step of the way. Coach Will Torrico contributes greatly to the scouting of opponents and picking up tendencies. Most of his work is done in the film room but on game days he is vital to the coaching staff by being their eyes from his position high above in the press box. Will has always been a guy who tries to stay one step ahead in competition. He was the quarterback of Rio's first 11 man championship in 2005 which was led by an incredible senior class who finished as runner up the year prior. Will has a great mind for strategy and looks for every advantage possible to put the team in the best position for success. Anthony Juliano Corsini is the most passionate assistant coach on the Rio Hondo Prep staff. His energy and antics are second to none. AJ provides the hype and intensity for every young man on the team. Under his watch, the defensive line will always put up a fight and hold their ground. He never holds anything back with his unique approach to getting as much out of his players as possible. Pound for pound, AJ Corsini was one of the toughest players in RHP history and coaches the exact same way he played. His senior class led Rio to the school's first 11 man championship game appearance in 2004 and propelled the program to new heights. AJ loves football and pushes the boys he coaches to their maximum potential.

Ed Drain is an Assistant Coach on the Rio Hondo football team working primarily on the defensive side of the ball as well as in the kicking game. He carries on the legacy of his father Ken Drain who led RHP into the 11 man era winning four championships and finishing as runner up two other times. Ed was a CIF Champion as a player back in 2008 and was a big part of arguably one of the best runs Rio ever put together. Throughout the rest of the summer, we will release episodes weekly on Friday nights with plenty of fun content to get fans ready. Coach Carson discusses the upcoming summer trip, when practices will start, and how his team looked in last week's 7 on 7 tournament at Los Altos High School. This is the 56th season of Rio Hondo Prep Football and the 50th anniversary of the school's first CIF Championship back in 1973. It's never too early to talk Rio Hondo Football! In this special edition, Coach Mark Carson and I release the full schedule for the upcoming 2023 season! As the Athletic Director, Coach Carson takes us through the details of what went on behind the scenes to make the games official. There are plenty of new opponents and some unique road trips. The Kares will kickoff their ten game season on August 18th and will utilize their Bye in Week 7. We will have plenty of Football content all summer long in anticipation of another autumn on the gridiron but keep an eye out for some occasional coverage of the spring sports before then. The Rio Hondo Prep Girls Basketball Program will open their pursuit of another CIF-SS Title this Thursday with a 1st Round matchup against visiting Whittier Christian. The Kares will be competing in Division 4-AA and have a very balanced squad that has been battle tested. Assistant Coach Tiffany Horton joins us for an instant reaction to the playoff placement as well as a recap of another successful regular season. Coach Horton discusses some of the key contributors on the team and encourages all of the RHP family to get out and support the girls in the Stivers Center amongst the Kare Crazies. Senior Ryan McCulloch gave a verbal commitment to play his college football at the University of California, Berkeley in the summer before his final high school season. On Wednesday, he made it official by signing his National Letter of Intent to play for the Cal Bears next fall. Ryan completed the paperwork in front of teammates, coaches, and fans in the Stivers Center at Rio Hondo Prep. He shares his emotions on the entire process and how special it was to open that first Christmas gift. Ryan also reflects on this past season and why he is so grateful for his experience at RHP. He will go down as one of the greatest players in Rio's history not just for his performance on the field, but how he consistently carried himself and always led by example. Rio Hondo Prep's 2022 season came to an end on Friday with a heartbreaking 28-27 loss to Norwalk High School in the 1st Round of the Division 10 CIF Playoffs. The alumni, parents, and fans could not be prouder of the incredible effort from the Kares against an intimidating opponent. After trailing early, RHP rallied to tie the game in the 2nd half and take the lead with just over six minutes remaining. Although Rio lost the game, they gave us hope and pride in the football program we all love. We cannot thank the outgoing seniors enough for their relentless effort and exemplary leadership. Rio Hondo Football is in great hands going forward and we cannot wait for August 2023. The season may be over, but as Coach Carson always says, we're just getting started....

Rio Hondo Prep (8-1) is headed south to face Norwalk (9-1) in the 1st Round of the CIF Playoffs. The undersized Kares will have to step up big time defensively to slow down the Lancers and their high scoring running game. As is often the case, whoever controls the line of scrimmage should have the best opportunity for success. We have two great guests for this special playoff edition. Brian Reed-Baiotto is the Sports Editor for 210 Prep Sports and has covered Rio extensively. He shares why Rio Hondo stands out amongst some of the other great programs in the area. Rio Hondo Prep defeated Campbell Hall in Week 10 to improve to 8-1 and earn an automatic berth into the CIF Playoffs. The Kares have now reached the postseason in 27 consecutive seasons. Ryan McCulloch had the game of his life with nearly 200 yards rushing and all 3 of RHP's touchdowns. Rio Hondo will travel to Norwalk HS (9-1) for the 1st Round of the Division 10 Playoffs and face a team that averages 350 yards rushing per game. Head Coach Mark Carson reflects on the big win from Friday night and looks ahead to a very challenging opponent. Also joining us is Junior OL/DL Colby Johnson to talk about life in the trenches and carrying on his family name on the gridiron. BREAKING NEWS: Rio Hondo Prep is placed in Division 10 and will travel to Norwalk High School on Friday night in the 1st Round of the CIF Playoffs. The Norwalk Lancers are 9-1 and have rushed for over 3,000 on the season. They feature a pair of thousand yard running backs and run and old fashioned Wing-T offense. Rio will only have to travel 20 miles down the 605 freeway but will have a huge test slowing down a team that scores at will. We can't wait for the opportunity. Rio Hondo Prep is 7-1 headed into the season finale on the road at Campbell Hall who is 8-1. The Week 10 matchup will determine 2nd place in the Gold Coast League and an automatic bid into the CIF Playoffs. The losing team will have to hope for an At Large berth which is unpredictable and unlikely. For all intents and purposes, THIS IS a playoff game. Our special guest is Citrus College Tight End Alex Vazquez who recently graduated from RHP back in 2020. He won a CIF Baseball Championship while at Rio and was a big part of multiple deep playoff runs on the gridiron. Alex talks about his team's 7-0 start and what it's like playing alongside former Rio players Johnathan Guerrero and Royal Young who are now his college teammates. Rio Hondo Prep has a Bye in Week 7 while the students enjoy Science Camp as part of their curriculum. They have three tough games remaining in Gold Coast League play to finish out the regular season. Our featured guest is Jacob Blake who was one of the greatest athletes in RHP history. He played on three consecutive CIF Champion football teams and led a special 1999 team to the Finals in baseball where they eventually fell. There will be no Week 6 game for the Rio Hondo Prep football team due to a cancellation by Glendale High School. It is rather upsetting news but the program will have to move forward. Rio has a bye next week in addition to science camp so they will be off the field for quite some time. Despite the disappointment, we are joined by John Lee from the Class of 1992. The Kares are 2-0 on the season and are making their first road trip of the season to take on the 2-1 Boron Bobcats in the high desert. Rio will travel over 200 miles roundtrip on Friday in what will be their first of three straight games as the visitor. They have worked together for a few years now and have been the voices that Rio fans hear on Friday nights in the fall. Both Clark and Kyle played football at RHP and love contributing to their alma mater. What started out as just a way to help the team has become a first class operation. The 2022 season will mark the 20th anniversary of Rio Hondo Prep Football kicking off a new era. The Class of 2003 had the honor of leading Rio into the first full season of 11 Man Football in school history. Fresh off of the school's last 8 Man CIF Championship in 2001, the 2002 team was poised to show that RHP could compete at a higher level. Today, five seniors from that team will reminisce about what a very special year it became. Without a home field to play on, the Kares would beat eventual champion Pasadena Poly and were knocked out of the Playoffs by eventual runner up Grace Brethren. It was full of many sweet victories and a couple devastating losses, but it paved the way for a program that would soar to new levels of success at a rapid pace. Ryan McCulloch is not only the best player on the Rio Hondo Prep roster for his upcoming Senior season, he's hands down one of the top performers in the entire San Gabriel Valley. Ryan has played on the varsity since he was a Freshman and has had a huge impact on the program's continued success. He has been recruited heavily by many Division I colleges and will make his decision of where he will continue his playing days very soon. Ryan is not only an exceptional student and athlete, but he is an example of someone who has embraced the entire RHP experience.
