Welcome back to part two!
In this part we talk about Oxford university and how Kwabena found it all.
We start the episode by talking about diversity at Oxford and the backgrounds many of the students have. We dive into the world of class and what is perceived as 'normal' by certain groups in society. Kwabena shares his experiences and thoughts on 'Diversity and Inclusion' and how the university and wider society can be most welcoming to people of all backgrounds. It's so interesting to hear Kwabena's take on the relationship between the media and Oxbridge and how the media continues to present Oxbridge as a distant and inconceivable place for a 'normal' person to attend.
We talk about Kwabena's TikTok and how his first TikTok went lowkey viral! As Kwabena says, he's hopefully (he most certainly is!) creating TikToks he wanted to see when he was at school. It's so interesting to hear how much Kwabena's social anxiety has dropped because of the people around him and the support and encouragement he received from fellow Oxford students around him. We also reflect upon the realness of TikTok and how, if engaged with right, TikTok can really help users share advice and experiences. It's so amazing to hear that Kwabena's aim with him TikTok is to inspire and encourage people to apply to Oxford and make everything achievable. Truly remarkable stuff.
We also talk about university counselling services and Kwabena's experiences with it and how 2022 was the year in which Kwabena wanted to make a change. Kwabena shares with us some of his highlights from 2022 including being in the 150 most outstanding black students on the Future Leaders Powerful Media list magazine!
Towards the end of the episode we talk about Kwabena's plans of being a commercial lawyer and how despite his 'education buffet' which he loved he's now pursing this path. We talk vacation schemes, internships and networking & Kwabena being Vice President of the Oxford Law Society! Also, we couldn't have an Oxford episode without talking about the Oxford colleges and their personalities so get ready to choose your favourite!
And of course, as promised, we talk about Kwabena's experience with meeting King (Prince at the time ;) Charles!

I can't believe we're in 2023, honestly, I think as we grow up the years just go by quicker and quicker, it's actually quite scary!
Anyways, welcome back to This Is Not The Daria Show and welcome to our first episode of the new year! I'm super excited for this podcast because we talk about education, young people and what it means to be ambitious from a working class background today. Please can we welcome our first guest of 2023 drumroll ... KWABENA!!
Some of you may already know Kwabena from his TikTok @kwabena.hmk ;) where he shares relatable videos on being a university student and making the most out of opportunities, British youth culture and everything in between. Our podcast today is really Kwabena's story ; the story of everything being achievable with hard work, dedication and most importantly self-belief.
In this first part we get to know Kwabena's life before Oxford where he studies History and Politics. We talk about Kwabena's experiences of being at a school which he felt suffered from a lack of resources and ambition for its students and what that consequently meant for him.
We talk about Kwabena's Oxford application process and the support and guidance along the way. We cast ourselves back to Spring 2020 when the world turned upside down and the news of school closures and public examinations being cancelled caused great concern. We hear about Kwabena's unique experience of being part of the 2020 cohort and how Gavin Williamson's algorithm (ikr throwback) rejected him both from Oxford and his insurance. The anxieties felt by students whose futures lay in an algorithm which disadvantages those from certain backgrounds is one hard to imagine.

In this part we focus on the transition from education into the working world and how to get yourself to where you want to be :))
Cerys shares with us her application process into The Big 4 and how she secured her competitive graduate scheme. It's so interesting to talk about how companies are increasingly using digital technologies and their own aptitude tests to determine which candidates proceed to the next stages. We talk about what working life is like for Cerys at 'a leading global provider of audit and assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory tax, and related services' ;) Cerys really does give us such a real insight into what it's like to work at one of the world's largest accounting & consultancy firms.
We reflect on the use of Cerys' degree in her current working life (spoiler, it's barely anything) and consider what it really means to go to university nowadays. It's particularly interesting to hear Cerys talk about the 18 year olds who've just left school but learn alongside her and other graduates.
Towards the end of the episode we explore the idea and feeling of 'Purpose' ; knowing why you're doing something at a particular point in your life and having it feel right. As someone who took an unexpected 'gap year' it's so interesting to hear Cerys' thoughts on it and how she wished she had taken one - team Gap Year all the way!

Today's guest is someone who I personally really looked up to growing up and to hear that she's now a real fan of the show really warms my heart and makes me so happy. She's an icon and everyone who knows her knows it. Please can we welcome, the one, the only .... CERYS !!
Cerys has very recently undergone a massive life change. Indeed, only a few months ago, she was in her final year of PPE at Warwick university. Now, Cerys is living her 'best London life' after securing a job on graduate scheme with one of the 'Big Four', the nickname used to refer to the four largest accounting firms, aka every finance student's dream workplace ;)
In this two part podcast we talk about this transition; the transition from education into the working world. We dive into the world of personal and professional growth through the three stages; school, university and working life.
In this first part we talk about Cerys' experience at Warwick, the university culture and how she's now finding the big move to London. It's particularly interesting to hear how Cerys has found this move coming from the midlands where the price of a good night out won't cost you a fortune!
However, alot of this first part is centred around themes of friendship, self-development, understanding people & self-awareness. Towards the end of the episode we talk quite a bit about our experience of an all girls school and how it impacted us ( spoiler - it was a very positive experience :)

Welcome back to the show! This podcast's a bit different to our regular style because not only is it not in two parts - shock horror - but it's a real mix of personal life story, current anecdotes and general thoughts about GenZ culture and wider society. I'm so excited to introduce you to this week's guest ... the man, the myth, the legend himself ... ARDI ALEXANDER-SEFRE!!
In this hour and a bit convo we get to know Ardi's story. We talk all about personal growth, development and becoming a young adult and navigating the culture and society we live in. We also give an exclusive insight into what our family life was and is like - let's just say us being the youngest was very impactful on our development & character :))
Physical activity is not only a big part of Ardi's identity but also, how as he puts it, is the way in which he retains his sanity. We talk about this and specifically climbing both the highs and the lows (get the pun ;) But seriously, only a couple of months ago Ardi had a big accident where the President of Sussex Climbing Society wasn't "Getting High since 1964', in fact quite the opposite. We talk about this injury and the impact it's had on Ardi.
Mental health, especially men's mental health and the male suicide epidemic are issues that both Ardi & I feel passionate about. We talk about how important it is to have quality conversations with your friends and build meaningful relationships where friends feel comfortable and safe opening up about their real thoughts and feelings. Fully engaging in a conversation with not only your loved ones but with everyone you meet along the way is one of the biggest things that will change your life in the most positive and dare I say it, magical way.
Towards the end of the pod we talk about the relationship between passion & success with a focus on the creative industry. We talk about the "Do you have sisters?" question & how growing up Ardi didn't even realise it was a thing until people often pointed it out - Ardi has three older sisters btw! We discuss the interaction between guys and girls in the modern world and how Ardi's mindset differs quite a bit to your average boy.
We finish off with Ardi's final words and it gets beautifully magical and wholesome so enjoy :))

In this part we talk all about the journey of taking Kirsten & Aiyven's books from an ordinary word document into professionally published books; available to buy on Waterstones, Amazon and on their website ;) We dive into the world of 'Kickstarter' and the girls' next steps once the funds were secured.
Of course, naturally, we talk about everyone's favourite online retail giant ( & monster ) Amazon. Its shocking to hear about how little the sales from amazon finds their way back to the authors themselves - boycott Amazon!
We also talk about the girls' amazing subscription reading box business, 'Happier Every Chapter' ! We talk about the impact Covid had on their business and how in some ways, being stuck at home, a reading subscription box became more appealing. Its insane to hear about the stats & facts which provided the impetus to create a subscription box to include a diverse range of characters something which the publishing world severely lacks.
We finish our conversation with the future of 'Happier Every Chapter' and what to expect from these two remarkable girls.

Welcome back to the show! Sorry it's been a bit longer between our last episode and this one. The situation in Iran has been rather distressing and something that I've been preoccupied by.
In this episode we are talking to not only one young person but we are talking to two! Indeed, these two young girls may only be 13 and 14 years old but they are not only authors, they are published authors. Yes, you heard right, published authors!
In this part we talk all about Kirsten and Aiyven's relationship with reading. We learn that what started as a simple entry to the 'BBC's 500 words' competition turned into not only two fully published books but also inspired the girls' to create their very own subscription boxes ( more on that in Part 2 ;) As we discuss the girls' books, it's clear the girls are interested in very different genres and have strong opinions on each other's work!
We discuss young people's relationship with reading and the impact of social media like TikTok. It's interesting to hear Kirsten & Aiyven's views of TikTok and how the platform does have good in it with its authentic nature.

We chat about the differences between girls and guys when in the gym alongside their attitudes towards health, gym and fitness in general. It's so interesting hearing all about Mia's insight and gym experiences especially given that I'm not really a gym girl and am a bit lost in the gym world - I certainly learnt alot from Mia!

Welcome to Part 2 of this special three part podcast with Mia aka Mia Millie Fit !
In this part we talk all about Mia's gym journey and the creation of her instagram account. It's so cool and surprising to learn what Mia's initial intentions were for her fitness account not to mention the name of the account - let's just say she never expected the account to become what is it today!
However, as Mia describes, with followers comes hate and its upsetting to learn about the hate Mia receives and how she deals with it. It's so inspiring that Mia doesn't let it get to her as she continues to share her fitness and health journey with the world to show and inspire us that a realistic healthy student lifestyle is possible.
We also talk about how and why Mia decided to lose weight back in sixth form and how people reacted to her dramatic weight loss when returning to school from lockdown. Spoiler- the way society treats people depending on their size is truly shameful. Mia and I do talk quite explicitly about food, eating and touch upon eating disorders so please do skip this part if you think this will trigger you.

In this part we get to know what Mia was like as a child, her backstory. We learn about the the physical activities her younger self did and her attitudes towards fitness and life in general how this evolved growing up.
We talk about uni, the culture differences between school and university, University of Loughborough, why Mia chose decisively to study there alongside its general university culture. Mia also shares a personal anecdote of a night out which went very very badly wrong. Thank goodness everything turned out alright in the end but my goodness do we have to be very careful when going out.

In this part we talk more about Leo's success stories - so crazy that Leo as just a 19 year old student is pretty much financially independent & thriving, something super remarkable at our age and a testament to his dedication to this online world.
We talk about how Leo moved to the NFT world as it turned into 2022 and the notable ones he got and what sort of revenue they brought in. So interesting to hear that basically the whole sneaker kids gang moved over to NFTs as the latest trend in making money.
We also talk about Leo's science side and how UCL has impacted his interest in the subject and generally how he's found his course.
We discuss how this online world has affected Leo as a person, his personality & view of money. It's so interesting to to hear about how the sneaker industry consumed Leo at one point and resulted in him really losing his ability to properly engage with others aswell as generally the other sacrifices he made to be successful in this industry.
To finish off we talk about Leo's future and surprise its not sneakers !! haha, instead Leo would love to go into a super important industry that's becoming even more important each and every day, listen to find out ;)

Although he's just finished first year, has no degree or proper work experience he's making serious money move. Please can we welcome ... LEO KHAMNEI !!
In this part we talk all about Leo's childhood and how his friendships and environment at school very much developed his interest in the reselling sneakers industry. Little did he know at just the mere age of 14 his commitment and hard work would consequently go on to make his extremely successful sneaker business. We talk all about Leo's reselling journey, the failures, the challenges and the success stories and how much his work has impacted him as an individual.
As a complete technology grandma this whole online world is something which really fascinates but also confuses me so if you have absolutely no idea on anything then don't panic as we break it all down entirely! We talk all about the skills & attitudes one needs to thrive in the reselling and bots world. Its so crazy to hear about Leo's major successes with particular "drops" - Leo was able to repay back his whole first year university education just from one summer - mad!
However, we also talk about the negative sides of working in an industry which requires constant vigilance of new sneaker drops, admin and just all the major behind the scenes that go into the business. Leo describes that in term 2 he would literally spend weeks on end in his room at accom not seeing anyone instead just magnetised to his computer!

Alicia gives us the run down on how she captures her highly provocative and striking images and films and generally the behind the scenes to all her works. We also chat about the projects Alicia's been involved in and my goodness does she get us excited by all the projects which are yet to come out - ahhh stay tuned !!
Dance is something which I truly believe can change lives. Prepare yourself for my monologue about the power of dance and how transformative and liberating it is from the constraints of society and indeed one's own mind. Alicia's views on dance are so insightful and I personally really love this part of the episode, so enjoy & after the podcast go pop on some music & get grooving!

Welcome back to the show! Today, I am so hyped to share this conversation with you, indeed, today we'll be talking all things self-expression, creativity & authenticity with probably the most artistic person I know. Please can we welcome my friend .... ALICIA BENJAMIN !!
We begin our convo by diving into the journey of Alicia's self - expression. We learn how from such a young age Alicia would dress in a very particular way with the male's gaze very much at the forefront of her mind when selecting her outfit. She dressed in a manner which today shocks her because of its inappropriately provocative nature & being not for herself at all. Interestingly, it's only recently that Alicia has felt confident enough to use her appearance as a form of self-expression. Everything that she does now is an expression of her truest self & her current feelings day to day and it's truly beautiful to see.
We talk about how authenticity and genuine passion towards something (alongside integrity ;) are such attractive qualities which inevitably attract likeminded individuals. We discuss why, in our experiences & opinions, some people are more self-expressive than others and how important childhood environments are to developing this ( shoutout to everyone's favourite girl school environments haha ;)
We also deconstruct jealousy and how to transform that feeling into a positive and healthy one instead - inspiration. Heads up - yes you may think it's cringe but truly your superpower is YOU so just be your wonderful self always :))

Welcome to Part Two aka the more deep & juicy part ;) Prepare to hear all about the fame, opportunities, goals and dreams but also the hate, judgements and misconceptions that inevitably and unfortunately come along with being a successful Content Creator.
In this part we dive further into Ishaan’s TikTok career starting right from his GCSE French days which crazily was only a year and a half ago. It may have started as just a way for Ishaan to personally revise but it's turned into a massive part of his life & has gone on to lay the foundations for his future career.
Like in Folk and Spoke’s episode ( defo go check them out ;) we deep about how important it is to establish meaningful relationships with people as generally the energy you give to the world will come back to you. If you’re positive, ambitious and hard working then you will attract likeminded people who will help you achieve your goals as you will help theirs :))
We discuss how Ishaan makes money from TikTok but really its from his partnerships and projects with different brands including UCAS, The Financial Times and Public Health England! The projects Ishaan has been involved in is actually insane - damn boi! And ... he's met Olivia Rodigro & Billie Eillish !
Finally, we finish with the side that not many people will know about Ishaan and that is that the Revishaan brand is so much more than its TikTok presence. Although he's just 17 and hasn’t even done his A-Levels, Ishaan has his own limited company and trademark and is in the the process of setting up his own social media marketing agency with a team of professionals! I feel that Ishaan perfectly embodies the GenZ go getter. A young person who is maximising his social media presence to invest and aspire to even bigger things and venture into other areas.

Today we're joined by one of the most recognisable faces amongst our generation. He's one of the biggest TikTokers in Britain and indeed he is THE face of StudyTok. This remarkable seventeen year old hardly needs an introduction, you defo would have seen him on your TikTok FYP, please can we welcome … REVISHAAN !!
It’s an absolute honour to have Revishaan on the show and in this two part episode we dive right into the man behind this whole study empire. In this honest conversation we meet Ishaan, the person. Together we learn what Ishaan was like as a child, how he got into social media, the hate, the opportunities and his own personal and professional goals.
In this part we discuss Ishaan's educational environments and how he's always grown up with the expectation of top performance in exams starting right from year three which continued throughout his secondary - Ishaan was introduced to the French subjunctive right from year 7 - crazy! Despite being the face of academia, we realise that Ishaan himself wasn't a high achiever at school, in fact, for a long time he was in majority bottom sets. However, the academic pressure alongside him being the underdog were big reasons as to why Ishaan is who he is today, an extremely hard working and ambitious individual.
We talk about the very beginnings of what would become one of the most recognisable accounts on TikTok - Revishaan. Interestingly, it all started from Ishaan's dedication to improve his French as his account was solely his revision of GCSE French, he was Mr 'GCSE French'! As an extravert pretty much all my life, something which I've found, particularly in recent months, is that some people who don’t know me assume that I’m “crazy” because I truly love life and find 'casual magic' in it every day, thanks UnJaded Jade for the term ;). Chelsea makes a really interesting point that she's observed that quite a few introverts were in fact extroverts but because of the “too much” “loud” and “crazy” labels they toned themselves down to the extent they actually changed themselves to become introverted, something which doesn’t naturally align to them and their personality. Society, generally speaking, has become so judgemental and even from personal experience I can see why some people do change themselves as a result of the judgements.
Furthermore, something that I’ve realised doing this podcast is that the way society views a confident, outgoing and independent woman is very different to that of a man.
When a woman is outgoing she’s seen as weird or 'making moves' but when a guys does it, its a sign of manhood and an attractive quality. We also talk about how basic human interactions are increasingly being seen as 'weird' and 'not normal' - to many complimenting someone, chatting to someone on the train or laughing with the cashier is somehow viewed as strange and odd! We talk about how this behaviour can be seen as intimidating especially to men, erm well actually - boys ;)
We talk about uni social culture and how you'll grow to have a big network where "everyone knows everyone” but in fact everyone just knows OF people, their names, not them as individuals. Additionally, we discuss how some people will want to “ruin your vibe.” Please don’t ever let someone's internal battles stop you from releasing your pure, unique and beautiful energy into the world.
We also finish with the biggest deep thought & that is that some people just feel things deeper and more than others, a category which Chelsea & I most definitely fit into. It's really hard for me to properly express how I feel towards this subject but I feel so deeply & genuinely connected to humanity and this is something which either attracts people with curiosity or scares them away. This feeling is something which Chelsea also resonates with.

Today we are talking about a subject which I am super passionate about ; being an extrovert and more specifically the misconceptions of extraversion.
Chelsea is a very remarkable young woman who never fails to leave such a positive & lasting impression on everyone she meets. Indeed, this talent and skill was a key reason as to why Chelsea became Head Girl at school, big congratulations to her ;))
In this episode we get to know Chelsea and her story, right from birth on the outskirts of West London to her school & sixth form experiences. Chelsea and I talk about the importance of outreaching and welcoming new people and just generally being friendly and smiley! Indeed, we both love meeting new people and this is something we dive more into in the deeper part 2.
We also address how life gets a bit more complicated once you leave school and how society and even schools glamourise university. There’s so much hype before going to uni that it’s going to be “the best time of your life” when really there's such a difference between 'uni' & 'university' and the sheer fact that university is a just massive transition, in all aspects, tends to be hugely overlooked.

Welcome back to this super deep and insightful conversation with UCL's coolest mech eng guy, HD! Also, this part has some extra spice - we are also joined by one of my oldest friends ... Naseela!
In this episode we continue to talk about how you should consider what's best for you ('selfish') but to always be mindful of how your actions affect others around you. We also emphasise the importance of being proactive in life especially when it comes to university and interactions with academic staff.
In this part, we talk about what we consider to be a mature, respectful and kind way to end 'just' a situationship or an official relationship. As brutal as it is, the way someone leaves you really tells you alot about their true personality and feelings towards you.
Furthermore, we talk about how common it is for people to call individuals ‘crazy’ or 'delusional' both of which are very hurtful remarks which are most commonly used in a 'gaslighting' manoeuvre.
It's interesting to hear HD's response to this and how he sees alot of people ‘misrepresenting a situation because they're embarrassed’ or have no other words and need some justification to present to their circles. By describing a person in this way, in most cases, they skilfully divert any attention from their own personal actions from the situation and invalidate the perspective of that 'crazy' person.
Finally, as a super busy, proactive and awesome guy who has such a diverse range of commitments and hobbies HD shares with us his top tips of utilising your time to enable you to fit everything you want to do in. Spoiler - PLAN PLAN PLAN! haha.

Today we’re joined by one of UCL’s Biggest Names On Campus (BNOCs) and one of the coolest mechanical engineers in the game. It is a pleasure & privilege to introduce you to .... Mr HD!!
Today, we really enter the world of deep chats and de-construct the notion of 'selfishness' and 'maturity.'
Indeed, for me, I would say maturity is one of the most misused concepts we use in our society especially amongst GenZ culture. In fact, alot of the time, I've found it's used as a cop out. It is used as a way of refusing to enter a difficult conversation. 'Immature' is seen as the magic word to 'effectively' shut the chance of a conversation down with the inaccurate claim that the other party is not mentally able to engage in such discussion, something very cowardly.
HD and I dive head first into this and discuss the differences between maturity and immaturity and give our own personal encounters with these behaviours. We also recognise and appreciate how vital it is to actively seek to understand different perspectives especially those contrasting your own in order to be mature towards a situation.
We also talk about selfishness, what it is exactly and when, how and why is it acceptable. As you will hear, HD shocks me at first, when he says there is “absolutely nothing wrong with being selfish." However, as HD explains I appreciate what he means but together we also stress the importance of always being mindful and careful of others during one's decision making.
We diverge a bit about the incredible opportunities and possibilities here at UCL and how remarkable the students are carrying out projects which will truly blow your mind! Speaking of blowing your mind, we learn, at the end, that our very own HD is not just your typical mechanical engineer. Nope. Man is in fact a UCL KPOP ICON !!

In this part we compare the icons of Persian literature, Ferdowsi and Hafez with the music industry's 21st century kings the Weeknd & Drake - very very similar genres they both are haha! Inevitably, we jump into a jam lit sesh of the biggest bangers from 'Honestly Nevermind' and 'Starboy' & 'Dawn FM' and as you'll hear I just get way too excited by it all!
But, don't be fooled, we could never forget one of the Iranian community's most iconic artists, the one and only ARASH! Indeed, Arash has such a special place in my heart. He was the first artist who encouraged and inspired me to fully embrace and love my Persian heritage and identity as he skilfully mixes both Persian and English in his tracks - gotta love a bit of Helena khanom ;)!

Today we are joined by one of Britain's biggest rising superstars not only in terms of her music but also from her infectious, fun and loving personality. Please can I introduce to the Persian Queen and TikTok's very own BIG BATTY GYAL - ROMINA khanom !!
This conversation is probably our most fun, energetic and insightful one yet. Indeed, it's so good that for the first time ever we have it not last just an hour but instead a whole hour and a half in our special three part episode !
In this first part we learn about Romina's first interactions with music and how significant her first piano teacher was for her entire music journey and consequently career - big up Mr Wesley. We get a sneak peak into life as being a member of one of Britain's most talented, upcoming and saucy bands - YCHANGE which was formed from the hit BBC show 'Little Mix : The Search' which aired late 2020.
Romina tells us about what she was like when she was younger and the bullying she endured as a result of being 'overly energetic', Persian, hairy and generally from being the designated 'the annoying child.' However, interestingly, we learn that this greatly changed in secondary school where she soon became a big well-respected name as a result of her insane creative and musical talent which continued while she was studying at the University of Westminster.

In this episode, we talk all about the relationship young people have with social media and how even if one wishes to live a social media free life, it is extremely difficult.
We discuss about how an increasing number of young people are no longer interested in properly getting to know one another & how people are increasingly satisfied with just a headline.
We emphasise the importance of perseverance, working hard and being committed to a goal with examples from Eliza's tennis and my experience of English and Physics GCSE, (went from a 6 to a 9, with 100% on one English Lit paper ;)
We conclude the podcast by giving our general opinions on our modern British GenZ culture, our inspirations, aspirations and some pieces of advice that we've gathered along the way.

Today, I have such a special guest lined up for you. I've known today's guest for several years now, in fact, I really have seen her grow up into the fine young woman she is today. She's just finished her GCSEs, congrats ;) and now she's the youngest guest yet on the show - doing it for the school kids! Please let me introduce you to, my friend ... ELIZA!
In today's episode we have a fun and honest conversation about what it's like to be a teenager in modern day British society. We dive into the world of school, friendships, hobbies, relationships, social media and just generally finding yourself.
We begin by learning about Eliza's own personal growth and journey. Indeed, having always known Eliza as an outgoing and self assured young lady, I was myself surprised to learn she wasn't always like this. Primary school Eliza was in fact a very shy girl who barely spoke to anyone. But now, how times change, now she's an aspiring future barrister!
Eliza passes on some wise words about friendship and stresses the importance of finding people who accept and love you for being your true self and people who genuinely want you to succeed rather than being jealous of you, something which I strongly agree. Also, we talk GCSEs, their importance but also highlight the how GCSES do not define nor value you as a person, something which is extremely important to appreciate.
Being judgemental is something I personally cannot stand.
For me, a judgemental person is someone who continuously judges others solely based off of a social media account, an anecdote which 90% of the time is not even accurate or any other indirect encounters with their name but then somehow feel entitled to judge that individual's entire character. However, indeed, the only character of a person in all of this being exposed is theirs.
To conclude this first part of the two part hour podcast, I give a little story time of when Ranya & I basically gatecrashed a history event at KCL and ended up having the support and enthusiasm from the phd students and academic staff in the department. It is now a memory that both Ranya & I so dearly cherish, it was so wholesome, it is really hard for me to properly describe. Big up Kings College London !!

In this part we learn about all the small things most of us wouldn't think twice about but have such an impact on the transgender community like obtaining a passport, accessing medication, getting married and generally the lack of rights the trans community has.
Pippa talks about her work on making more Queer friendly pubic spaces as well as Pride Month, the relationship it has with capitalism and what the celebratory month shows about our modern British society. Pippa also tells us about her local area's response to LGBTQ+ pride, how she lives in an extremely conservative area and generally the relationship between Conservative voters and LGBTQ+ supporters.
We discuss the relationship Britain has with refugees and how these people are viewed by different members on society and how the state have portrayed immigrants and refugees. Pippa skilfully distinguishes between fact and fiction. The references Pippa makes to historical and religious trends and the significant events which impact today adds such insight to help us better understand the struggles members of the LGBTQ+ community face today.

Hey everyone - welcome back to the show! Today, we're in for something rather special and a bit different to our regular style. To celebrate and wrap up the official UK's Pride Month we have a LGBTQ+ special for you! Indeed, unlike before, we don't have a fellow GenZer but instead we have a highly intelligent and remarkable lady on the show, please can I introduce you to a leading historian at University of Westminster & LGBTQ+ activist .... PIPPA CATTERHALL! In the first part of our two part podcast we explore the historical interests of Pippa both when she was younger like religion and the Middle East as well as her current areas of exploration and projects. We also touch upon the politics and state of London Universities which is rather interesting and deserves its own podcast completely ;) During both this personal and academic podcast we have the privilege of learning about Pippa's transgender journey. We learn how just at the mere age of 4, Pippa realised that she was not born in the right body and how Pippa views gender as a spectrum. We explore the social construct of masculinity and how that relates to people questioning their gender and identity as well as the subtle things we don't realise that are all built with the male in mind, a clear example being toilets. We also dive into the history of gender and how pivotal Alfred Kinsey's 1947 report of gay presence in Britain was and how states sought to erase the LGBTQ+ community from mainstream society. Pippa gives us context into gender discussions in the 1950s when the world was on a verge of nuclear war, in a decade where the nuclear family was very much socially and state endorsed as well as her take on the supposed 'swinging 60s' social and cultural revolution. He may once have been a 'smol skinny boi' (nothing at all 'wrong' with being skinny btw!) and merely the brother of this British icon, but in recent years, especially during his gap year, he has undergone both a physical, emotional and spiritual journey and transformation. A journey which we all now have the pleasure & privilege to embark on in this two part one hour podcast :)
In this part, we talk all about Folk's childhood & upbringing, growing up as UnJaded Jade's brother, Folk's gap year adventures alongside how Folk more generally lives his life in what he aspires to be the most productive and positive way.
We particularly dive into how Folk greatly improved his confidence over the years and how growing up as an introvert Folk always sought to be an extrovert as he believed it to be the easier personality type to fit into society. I hope you're all well, positive & smashing your goals for the day!
Today's episode is rather different most obviously because there's no guest today, I know, devastating right - you'll have to endure my voice for half an hour haha!
I feel like it's a good time to generally talk about the direction and vision for the podcast alongside how it came about in the first place in the context of what was one hell of a personal health journey this last year.
November 2021 right until early March 2022 was an extremely low period in my life. Those months I wish to never ever experience again and I am confident I will never go back there.
I am now in such a good place and I am so grateful to my parents, family, friends, the people I befriend when going about everyday errands & interactions alongside you guys as listeners for genuinely making me so happy - thank you!
It took alot for me to publish this episode today as this story is still rather recent but it feels like it's the right time to touch upon what was such a dark period but also such an important part of understanding my story and how it did in fact play a big part in the podcast's creation - every cloud does indeed had a silver lining ;)
I really hope you enjoy this episode and learn something new, whether it be about the podcast itself, depression or the fact that you are not alone if you're struggling.
Trust me, I know the feeling of emptiness & genuinely feeling that you'll be stuck like that for the rest of your life.

Yes, that's right, today we are beyond lucky to have two individuals literally leading the way for accessible wellbeing and emotional health for young people in a way that's as easy as listening to your favourite music.
It is my absolute pleasure to welcome lead artist, public face & voice of Spoke, LEMZI & the CEO and Co-Founder (and my cousin!) ARIANA !!
In this two part conversation we talk all about how this pioneering mental health movement came about and how Ariana not only came up with the concept but also how she, alongside the support and commitment of others, managed to get it all up and running into a professional app, one which you should all go download on the App Store now!
In this particular part, we learn about the personal and professional journeys of both LEMZI and Ariana (Lemzi graduated with a Law & Criminology degree now he's an artist full time - mad!) aswell as the events which led to the creation of the movement on Ariana's part.
In the next part, we dive more specifically into the highs and lows of building a start-up, how to get investment and to ultimately find people who genuinely believe in the product as much as the founder does. To conclude, Ariana and LEMZI give us some good advice for young people looking to make their idea a reality and we learn what both LEMZI and Ariana are most personally and professionally proud of.

We’re back for Part 2!
In this part we continue our super stimulating and passionate conversation on our generation's most current issues.
We throw some shade to the SOAS Marxist supporters who don't genuinely hold Marxist views but instead join the movement to simply be perceived as "cool" or "edgy." We talk about the challenges and culture of university political discussion which regrettably does sometimes have a tendency to ostracise or even in some extreme cases "cancel" students and staff who hold more traditional conservative values and views.
We speak about the legacy of the USSR and Communism in Eastern European countries, particularly Romania, and how the Church and politics are still intrinsically intertwined in many of these satellite states. We discuss the modern history and politics of Romania and how despite a strong sense of national identity there is an extremely low voting turnout and young Romanians are so disillusioned that many don't see their future in Romania.
We express why young people should become politically engaged or active and why Laura believes voting is a fundamental civic duty to the extent it should be made compulsory if appropriate.
Finally, we look at how media has completely changed the nature of modern day politics and the works of politicians as well as the dirty world of politics, business & money.
I had such an awesome time recording this conversation & listening back to it makes me so happy because I'm so pleased with it - I do hope you're pleased with it too :))

Laura Ionescu (@laurraionescu ;) has just finished her first year at University College London studying Politics & International Relations and has strong political opinions and visions regarding both her homeland, Romania, and the wider global world.
During this first part of our super educational and insightful conversation, we firstly dive right into the Ukrainian and Russian war. We discuss how the politics and consequences of the conflict not only affect Ukrainian and Russian domestic politics & societies but also wider Europe, particularly for those ex Soviet satellite states like Romania. We also look into how Ukrainian and Eastern Europeans are now regarded by politics, media and society and how that compares to their presentation during the Brexit campaign.
This conversation consequently leads on the relationship between politics and media and why certain conflicts or issues are broadcasted, publicised or are actively spoken about and while others remain silenced. We also discuss how our generation has become almost obsessed with meaningless social media activism, "Slackitvism", where in some cases, users may repost an article having not even read beyond the headline themselves!
I honestly learnt so much talking with Laura. She exemplifies a remarkable young woman of our generation. Strong and committed to her values and views but actively seeks to hear other perspectives to broaden her full understanding of an issue. Can't wait for you to take a listen to Part 2 ;))

Like me, Ranya went to UCL back in Sept 2021 but soon realised with her background, expectations and having been locked away thanks to the pandemic we simply realised we weren't ready for university, And guess what? That's perfectly ok.
This podcast is in two sections. In the first we'll cover our expectations of uni life alongside how we found the academics and official wellbeing support once we arrived at UCL. In the second, we'll demystify what the culture and community is like at UCL alongside life as a London uni student and the accommodation situation. Finally, we'll wrap up with a few points of things we wish we had known before going to uni.
