It's time for a behind the scenes episode! Since I re-branded & relaunched my business back in June, there have been a lot of changes behind the scenes and I know that sometimes, hearing what other people are testing, experiencing and struggling with is just as useful as a new 'strategy' - so I wanted to share it with you!
In this episode we cover:* The 'post-launch' burnout which was a big lightbulb moment (or painful learning curve depending on your viewpoint!) * What stripping back to the bare minimum taught me and how I'm making changes to stop doing the things I was able to drop * The 5 things I've changed in the last 3 months including: * outsourcing Instagram & working on my messaging with Rachel Pearson * testing new lead magnets using Ads & using my £15/day Facebook Ad funnel * looking at my boundaries with clients * evolving my email sequences to stop the reliance on Instagram * batching the podcast to stop my resenting the time it takes * 2 things I'm focusing on having in place before Xmas to truly move towards more time & energy freedom

My own personal experience, and that of so many of my clients, is that starting, building and running a business and navigating motherhood are so intertwined. It's both the reason we want the flexibility and also the biggest challenge to achieving a version of success that makes it all worthwhile.
Suzy Olivier is committed to rewriting the narrative around what it takes to achieve success as a mother, so you can design your life and business to experience genuine success on every level - which meant she was the perfect person to have on the podcast to discuss this topic.
In this episode we cover:* Breaking the 'I'll take any money' mindset that often comes with starting a business when there's a baby in the house. * The emotional weight of treating your business like it's another child—and how to mentally separate the two. * How to roll with life's curveballs—like another little one on the way or a big move—while still keeping your business afloat. * The non-negotiable role of boundaries and why we both admit to skirting them occasionally. 😅 * Identifying what tasks suck the joy out of you, and outsourcing them—be it in your home or your business. * Scaling beyond £5k months without hitting burnout. 🚀
Suzy is a certified business coach, serial entrepreneur of over 16 years, military wife, and mother of 3. She combines all that lived in first-hand experience and expertise with her unrelenting optimism and overwhelming passion to help women realise their amazing potential and build the business & life of their dreams and genuinely enjoy the process without sacrificing time with their precious family.

If you are ready to evolve your business to give you the time and energy freedom to focus on the things you love to do or have been on your 'must do' list for far too long (write a book, do more speaking, spontaneous trips abroad) without impacting the growth of your business and actually getting MORE clients - I can help!
I asked Hannah to be on the podcast because I spent a day with her back in April and the work we did on my strengths and how they influence the way I run my business has had a big impact on decisions I've made since, including stopping my successful group programme.
Hannah is a 'Strengths based coach' and uses the Clifton Strengths test to inform the way she works with clients. You don't need to have done (or even heard of!) the test to get a lot from the episode.
In the episode we chat about: * What is the Clifton Strengths test and why is it different to other tests? * How your strengths can have a 'shadow side' and the impact this can have * Examples from our own profiles, including the reasons I restarted the podcast, why I 'failed' at having a VA for so long and how Hannah's people pleasing was the key to consistency. * How understanding my strengths has shaped recent decisions I've made to grow my business * The impact of not using your strengths on your business and your health.
Hannah Miller is a proud teacher by trade and she's been involved in leading three start-ups, including her current business. She is what you call a “Strengths-Based Coach” which is NOTHING to do with weightlifting and everything to do with personality and preferences. She has been trained to give her clients the tools to really get to know themselves, what they do best, what their contribution is, essentially, what their STRENGTHS are so that they are armed to make the right decisions and build a life that works for them.

What’s this episode about? In the 3rd and final episode of the Branding mini series, Helen and I talk about visual branding. This isn’t an episode that is going to tell you how to create a great social media graphic or what fonts to use. This is much more about how we convey our brand to potential clients, from messaging and the language we use to the feel our brand invokes when people look at our social media and website.
If you’ve always ‘made do’ with a simple logo, brand colours and some social media templates, but it’s starting to feel a bit disconnected and like it doesn’t represent your business, or you spend hours on Canva trying to make things ‘work’ and want to develop a more cohesive brand look and voice - this episode is for you!
Episode key takeaways:* Why branding is more than a font, colours and a logo (and what is really needs to include) * When to invest in support with branding (and not to) * The issue with using Canva for your branding * How having a clear brand can decrease your mental load and increase your sales * The ways your brand can attract dream clients (and repel ‘less than ideal’ clients!)

What’s this episode about? The second in our 3-part branding series, this episode delves in to personal brands with Rachel Pearson. Whether you think you do or not, you have probably created a personal brand whilst growing your business and this episode is all about being more intentional about how you develop and use it to grow your business.
We’re not talking about becoming an Influencer. We’re not talking about having to share every detail of your life - in fact we actually talk about sharing less but it having more impact. It’s a great episode to think about your business as a whole and how your personal brand is infused in to every element (so you may as well make it intentional!)
Episode key takeaways:* What is a personal brand and do all businesses need one? * 3 ways to start using your personal brand in your business (especially your marketing) * Why Sophie has really bright colours for her branding (hint: it’s relate to personal brand!) * How you interact with your clients or your customer service policy is linked to your personal brand * How to get clear on your personal brand and using it in your business.

What’s this episode about? This episode is a really honest chat between Ceri and Sophie about making money, feeling successful and how motherhood and our identity is wrapped up in it all. We talk about hustle culture, the impact of taking on other peoples goals (and not even realising it!), the push and pull of motherhood and running a business and how we have both been impacted by our corporate jobs when looking at how much we ‘should’ be earning.
Episode key takeaways:* Redefining what success looks like - and why that’s not always easy to do * Fighting against or succumbing to seasonality of business and your life * Guilt around not wanting to push harder in your business vs guilt for wanting to push harder and not having the time/space to do it * The importance of fact checking what you see on social media and your own business
INTRODUCING… CERICeri left a 12 year career in business development to embark on two big roles. Becoming a mother & launching a business.
A serial entrepreneur Ceri has started, scaled, raised investment and taken a business to sale.

What’s this episode about?Managing my finances as a small business was a big adjustment for me both practically (saving for my tax!) and mentally (you mean the price I charge isn’t the money I actually make?!). I had SO many questions when I started and couldn’t find anywhere to tell me exactly what to do, step by step. So in this episode that is what Anastasia and I try to do. We’ve gone back to basics and talk about all the really important things you need to know about your finances, especially in those first few years.
Episode key takeaways:* We answer common questions like: * Do I need a business bank account? * Is a spreadsheet ok or do I need software like Xero? * What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting? * When do I need to invest in a bookkeeper or accountant? * We also cover: * Why is it important to know your business numbers, especially with the current climate, * A simple system for receipts * What are tax-deductible expenses (and what aren’t!) * When should you be a sole trader vs a limited company (and what impact that has on you and your business) * Using Profit first to structure your finances
NOTE: This podcast was recorded in Summer 2022 and some of the specific tax thresholds or other information may have changed since the recording. We’d always advise you get specific advice about your financial situation from an accountant at the point you need it.

In the final solo episode of season 1, I talk about the 3 ways you can use Facebook Ads over the summer to keep your audience warm and give yourself the best chance of having a strong September. In this episode I cover: 1) Why boosting a post is something I recommend in some situations - summer being one of them. 2) How to boost a post and get the best results 3) Using a traffic Ad to get good quality leads on to your website (and why you need to optimise for landing page views NOT link clicks) 4) The two options you have to grow you email list using Ads. The pros and cons and who should be using each of the methods. If you really want to try using Ads over summer to free up some time but you also don't want to waste money, or just aren't sure where to get started - I have something for you. When I read this Instagram post on Lucy's grid, it reminded me so much of how I felt about my business last year, I knew I had to have her on the podcast. It said: “I had a business that was making me good money but I was often working evenings and weekends and my 'created for flexibility' business was making me stressed and distracted when I was with my family and friends. Also I didn't love what I was doing and questioned it all the time. It took me a while to realise that this isn't success and what I wanted was possible and something I was allowed to have (hands up if you're telling yourself stories about how you're lucky with what you've got and if you were different it would all be OK)” Todays episode is for anyone who has wondered if running your only business was really this hard, if you really need to be available 24/7 or of you wonder if it's worth the impact on your mental health. Lucy and Sophie chat about their own experiences and Lucy shares 3 strategies she uses with her clients to help them make positive changes to their lives and businesses. INTRODUCING: LUCY HARVEYLucy is a business coach who helps women achieve their dream job by creating or adapting their business. The third and final episode of the Get Set for Summer series! In this episode I share both my own and my clients experience of September, and how it can be a key indicator for the rest of the year. It might feel too early start thinking about September but, as I explain in the episode, a strong September is really key for both ecom and service based businesses. In this episode I cover: 1) My number 1 tip that I recommend to have the BEST start to September. 2) How to work out what you need to be focusing on in the first few weeks after the school holidays 3) Why the P.M.T Approach (focusing on the right people, with the right message, at the right time) is even more important in the period from Sept - Jan. Automating elements of your business so you only have to do them once is a GAME CHANGER! And it won't just help you in August either, once they are set up, they just keep on running. But with less than 5 weeks until the school holidays, you need to focus on the automations that are going to make the biggest difference to you and your business - and that depends on your goal for the summer. In this episode I talk through the key automations (and focus areas) for 3 of the most common summer business goals: 1) You want to maintain or drive sales 2) You want to build a warm audience for September 3) You want to stop your business for August This is a really practical episode so grab a pen and paper and map out your key actions and think about how you can do them little by little over the next few weeks. Here’s what I’ve noticed about growing a business: You can know everything you need to be doing to effectively market your services but doing it is really hard. No amount of content consumption changes this. And that’s the temptations isn’t it, to learn more, watch more, listen to more people. And the problem with this? It’s easy to get it wrong. It’s easy to lose hours on ineffective marketing, attempt a million different tasks and not do any of them that well and be thwarted for weeks at a time by procrastination and overwhelm. After many conversations and working with over 150 businesses in the last few years, I have noticed 3 core problems stopping you from getting the sales and give you endless overwhelm and make you second guess yourself. In this episode I share those core issues and give you 4 actions to take to start moving forwards. Episode key takeaways:You need to get in front of more people - but work out what that looks like for you depending on the answer to a very important question (which I tell you in the podcast, obvs). You can’t stay consistent if you try and do everything yourself. Fact. If outsourcing isn’t an option yet, then automation is what you need to do. I share where to start and 3 core automations you need in place BEFORE the Summer Hols. You’ve put all your eggs in the Instagram basket, and the basket has a hole in it (does that work as a metaphor?!). I share why you are not alone and practical step to moving building other baskets (aka doing things that are actually going to bring you sales). If you know you need to get your sh!t together and grow your business, but can't seem to actually take action - the Bloomin' Marvellous Marketing Academy is HERE - whoop!
