The Accidental Farm: Recent Episodes

Dana | Farm Girl

In 5 minutes a day, you are immersed in the life of a little farm. The characters -- furry, feathered and human -- contribute to your escape. It's a break from your daily grind where lessons from chickens, strangely enough, apply to you, your friends, family and colleagues no matter where you live. Step onto the farm during your commute, in a break between meetings, while doing chores, working out or with your morning coffee. The farm's a simple place with complex dynamics that will leave you thinking about it well after the five minutes are through.

The Accidental Farm podcast has been touted as "bingeworthy" with "enchanted storytelling" that's "a cure for a modern life full of frustrating password resets and too many long customer service hold times."

It's important to explore and to encourage others to explore too. So, when we purchased this land, that's just what I did. I made paths, I connected trails, I made sure that little groups of chairs invited you to cross the property to see what was up. The plan was for Murphy and the goats to live together. The key word here is "was." That's not exactly how it worked out. And this fact has dictated a lot of how the farm runs. xoxo Want to know more? Find me on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl I am all ears for what you think and any suggestions you have.

Truth. The ducks are scared of me. And I am the one who cares for them, feeds them, etc. But that doesn't mean much with the ducks. Find out the other side of being a duck... from my perspective anyway. xoxo Questions? Comments? Ideas? Find me on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl and I promise to send you an answer or address your concern in an upcoming exercise.

This is a pivotal lesson of the Accidental Farm. The long view is a slow burn. It started in the garden. But it applies to every part of the farm... and the rest of life no matter where you live or what you do. Don't hurry. Take a long view.

It's will against will here. Sometimes you win and sometimes you don't. It's amazing how strong-minded a little donkey can be. And his Dutch door... just too much! Some animals here have names and some don't. Find out why. And see how we arrived at the goats' names. Some with intention and some more accidentally. As far as I am concerned, intentional or accidental are both fine ways. But I would not recommend the chicken naming strategy. Find me on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl and let's talk names. I have a few members of the AF that could use your suggestions.

Well, they don't come with an instruction manual. Ducklings are super cute, but definitely need help. They are super hilarious and this is one of their first lessons. Yes, they had more training. Find more about the ducks and the farm on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl and let me know how you like the podcast so far. There are so many stories to tell and so many lessons I have learned that I am passing on to you. xo

We use henpecked differently than it happens on the farm. But one thing's the same. You don't want to be on the receiving end of it. Chickens are endlessly fascinating. It's surprising actually. My first experience inside a beehive rendered me... the opposite of speechless. I was a driveling idiot blathering on about frames and stapler drawers and all those female bees doing all that work. Come on in. It's all about that first time... without any bees to sting you. xoxo Are you feeling the Accidental Farm yet? It is an unfolding story and we are just at the beginning. The characters are so complex and funny. Stick around and reach out to me on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl to let me know how it's going.

It is uncanny how a garden is just like real life. The real life that is not the garden. I have had my garden since 2010... eleven seasons. So many failures. So many unexpected surprises. And weeds. Weeds have a way of creeping in. Even outside a garden. I think you know what I mean. xoxo Let me know that you're here. Connect on Instagram @xoxofarmgirl Send me a message. I will be waiting for you.
