Back With a Straight Razor This past week I’ve been back on the straight razor kick. I’m really happy with the results. This week I used my Dovo AOS straight razor that was gifted to me for Christmas 2011. I touched it up on the hones and had some great shaves. I’ll tell you why starting the day with a straight razor (or safety razor) really sets the tone for the day (at least for me)

Honing: My Progression I honed two razors this week and went back to my usual honing regiment. I’ll tell you exactly what I do:

Here are a few rules that should be followed when posting on a forum:Remember, forums are a great place to meet some new people with similar interests, and it can also put a bad taste for a certain hobby.

Don’t -Commenting on older posts where the OP has already received the needed advice, sometimes 10-15 years prior.

-Giving advice when you yourself just started wet shaving (The 6 month wet shaver) especially with straight razors and honing.

Hey guys, welcome back to the podcast and happy Labor Day weekend to you all. I know Labor Day is today, the day the show is is actually coming out, recording this a little bit in advance to enjoy the weekend. But I hope you all had a great Labor Day for the for those neighbors to the north. This is kind of like the last hurrah for summer.

So I know summer is technically this summer season's over and a lot of kids are going back to school up north down here in Florida. It's kind of like the start of the rapid hurricane season. I'd say a lot of hurricanes are coming out usually around this time of the year is when it gets really busy. So we kind of consider this almost like the start of the intense, severe hurricane season. But for those of you celebrating, have a great day. Enjoy the time off, have a barbecue. And really, it's like the last stint of summer before we get into full out pumpkin spice season. Like to call it or fall. That's right. I am a pumpkin Spice fan. I love it.

I go to all the initial releases, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, you name it, I'm there. I love kicking off the fall and the fall season. It's just it's a lot of fun, especially with with wet shaving because you have so many fall sense. Yes, I already started using my pumpkin spice soaps and my my fall season scents. So looking forward to continuing that for the next couple of months and then getting into well before we know it, it'll be the holidays. So there we go.

So today on the show I spent a week back with the straight razor really, really happy with with that and having a good time. Just getting back into the old groove of using one. Haven't used one in a while actually for it's been some time on and off here and there, but haven't really primarily used a straight razor in quite some time. So it's been great. I'll tell you a little bit about my my experience with it, what I've learned and how it makes you, me personally feel. Going to work in the morning after getting a really good straight razor shave or safety razor shave in that in that sense a honing.

So of course with coming back to straight razor shaving, you have to hone your razors or make sure that they are sharp. I had a few issues with that this this week. The first shave did a couple drops, noticed that my straight razor was not 100% sharp and had to take it back to the Stones. So I'll tell you a little bit about my progression and what I found to really work actually quickly and really effectively. Probably one of the best honing progressions I've ever done. I'll tell you exactly what I did and also per a listener request who actually asked me about a honing, just kind of kind of coincided. It was kind of a coincidence. So it really didn't I didn't realize that I would be doing that in the same week when I got this email. So this is for you as well, Mike T

he Feather Museum in Japan. I had no idea that there was a museum in Japan based on really knives and a lot of razors, straight razors, safety razors. There's even like a 8 or 9 foot safety razor model in this museum. So I have a few pictures of that. Tell you a little bit about what I learned from that museum. Didn't go to it. I haven't been to Japan, but if you are in Japan and if you're in the area, probably a good area to check out if you're which maybe one of the best displays of of vintage and modern, what shaving gear I've seen via the website and wet shaving forum etiquette. So I noticed when I was going through some wet shaving forms and, you know, reading through the forms which I do daily, a lot of people are doing some weird stuff.

Again, I know there's a lot of people, a lot of new guys out there. I'll tell you proper what shaving forum etiquette and posting on either, you know, Badger and Blade, a straight razor place or, you know, those type of places or even Facebook and and and read it. So I'll tell you about proper etiquette. So guys, without further ado, let's get on with the show.

So this past week have been back on the straight razor kit. Guys. I really was happy with the results. I've been kind of putting it to the side. Been very, very busy. I haven't been able to dedicate too much time to it. And also be honest with a little one around the house, it's a little dangerous, so you don't want to make sure you don't want him to slam into the door or slam into you when you're using it or pick it up or anything like that. So I'm very, very careful with my straight razors. I make sure that they're locked up and safe just so the little guy doesn't get to it. It's also way above his reach. He can't even get to it, even if he tried.

But I use my straight razor, which was gifted me by my wife in 2011. So I've had this razor for well over ten years. It's got the most shaves on of anything I've owned, probably about 1500 shaves. I used it primarily for years and kept it sharp and I've only set the bevel twice on it, so I've only had to really hone it twice with that many shaves. A lot of people don't believe me, but I was able to maintain it without going through a full bevel restore but only done it. I've done it twice in that time and when I touched up on the hones I got it was a little bit dull, had a little bit of an issue.

One thing I noticed about straight razors, if some reason if you let them sit for too long, I don't know if the blade oxidizes or something, it just doesn't come out right. And even if you strop it on pace, it just didn't come out right. So I actually did the full honing progression on this one. And another razor of mine and I had a couple of vintage razors that I was able to just get going right off the bat. So I did try a few, but I did primarily use this one this week, put a little like a Shutterstock picture from the website. It's on the show notes.

This was given to me for Christmas. I was using old razors at the time I was in school. I didn't really have too much money to buy one, so my wife was able to give me this and a brush for Christmas. I've been using it a lot, so it's very special to me and it's really a great razor. I mean, I love double razors, but really the whole thing is like the experience you get guys when you do traditional wet shaving in the morning before you go to work or whenever you do it. It's it's kind of like a little bit of a skill or a little bit of something that you've accomplished in the day prior to going to work.

Now, a lot of people say, Hey, make your bed before you go to work because that's a great way to start your day. You start your day, something accomplished, something clean. You look forward to it. You know, I may not be the best at that, but I can tell you that I think I feel the same, if not more, by using a straight razor or safety razor traditional wet shave in the morning because you've already done a skill that's requires practice and is actually very complicated and tedious prior to leaving. So you've accomplished something very big that 99% of the people that you know don't do unless you are best friends with a bunch of wet shavers.

And you guys are doing this every day for the most part, I'm the only person that I know in my group of friends and family that uses these things on a daily basis. So feeling that sense of accomplishment, when I was done and looking at my face and just kind of like putting on aftershave, I was like, wow. Like I already started the day doing something hard, right? Doing something that not everybody else can do. And I feel I just felt good. It gave me a great week going to work actually using this the straight razor every day and just being and being able to, um, to do that have an accomplishment prior to going to work. So if anybody asks you, you know, you're crazy for using the straight razor or safety razor or anything in that sense, brush and soap. Tell them this, you know, say, Hey, look, I've accomplished something that 90% of the people that I know can't do. And it's a hard skill that not every that takes practice and patience. And I was able to do it this morning and now I can really accomplish anything, you know, doing something hard before you go to work. It makes it work day look a lot easier, doesn't it? And it also gives you a lot of confidence.

And I got to say, I had a couple of, you know, executive visits this week and stuff in the location I work at, and I did very well. And I was very confident, not because I changed anything, I guess maybe because the the straight razor shave boosted me up and gave me a little bit of skill saying, Hey, I know I did this. You guys didn't. And this is why I feel good. I guess. I don't know if that's if that's a good way of saying it. I guess it's a little competitive, right? And maybe a little bit of an ego straight razor ego going out there. But hey, you know what? If you guys use a straight razor or safety razor and traditional wet shave every day, you deserve to have a little bit of an ego when it comes to shaving, right? Because you're already doing it better than 99.9% of the population out there. And probably everybody that, you know in your inner circle and outer circle.

So I know that's a lot and it sets the tone for the day. And I know it might be a little ridiculous to certain people, but to me I felt really good and I felt very accomplished and had a great week. I don't know if it's got a straight razor. I don't know if it's just because I it put me in a better mood or just made me think that I can, you know, climb mountains. But it was great and I really enjoyed it. And I'm going to keep it going. Now, I got to say one thing. Love the straight razor, one of my favorite things to do, but I still really love safety razors as well.

So I'll be using everything, you know, just getting the collection going. I love using a double edged safety razor. I think they're great, especially three piece just well, I don't care. Whatever it is, I it is fun and but I do I know I'm glad I put the straight razor back in the rotation after a certain amount of time. So back in the game I'll be using this, adding a lot more straight razor content because I'll be getting more active in there. And also I was watching a lot of videos to watch some old videos of Lynn Abrams, you know, watching him honing and stuff. It was great to relive that stuff. And, you know, after, you know, being able to speak to Lynn so many times and seeing him, I know he's retired now and he may not be listening to the podcast, but if he does, you know, Lynn, you have some great videos out there.

Even though they're older, they are still very relative and I'm still watching them. So thank you very much for all that content and everything that you've accomplished in the wet shaving world. So honing my progression. So I've messed with honing for over ten years. And I can tell you that I have done everything wrong in honing that you can do. I have gone from shaving or sharp trying to sharp trying. I said a straight razor with a knife sharpener with the wrong hones with sending it to a knife shop. I've done everything wrong that you can do. So if you need to learn how not to sharpen a straight razor or hone a straight razor, talk to me. Because I've done everything wrong. I have done stuff to where my face was all irritated because I wasn't sharp enough, because I wanted to jump into it. Everything.

So I went back to my usual honing regiment, added a few things to it, because I had to set the bevel on the the dovetail because the devil was really out of it and I just couldn't get it with the my touch of hones and my and paste. I couldn't get ItrillionIGHT. So I said, you know what, I'm going back to the old school, going back to the bevel. I'm going to set the bevel and I'm going to get it right. And really, believe it or not, this progression I use did not take very long. Within one hour I was pretty much shave ready Now, again, this razor wasn't damaged or anything like that. And I've done I've honed razors, especially wedge razors. I've gotten my my even and son the razor that I have from the 1700s. One of them I have 2 or 3 from the 1700s. It was chopped up like Swiss cheese on the bevel.

And what I had to do was I had to like actually butter knife it, which means you go on the hone and kind of cut that bevel down to nothing, right. To even out the where and get those holes Swiss cheese out and then re hone it from the ground up starting at like a 325 grit stone going all the way up to a, you know, up to pasted straps, which actually the razor shaves very well to this day. But it was I'll tell you, the honing that razor probably took me maybe two weeks of working on it. A lot of work, probably at least 20 hours. I mean, it was a lot of work. Hence why I'm not a professional at this. And I don't do this for for a job or for anything. I just do it for a hobby because I don't think I could have done another razor like that. I've done two wedges in my life and two of them were really damaged and I don't think I can do it again.

But it is nice shaving with Razor that's over 200 years old, I'll be honest, but it's just a lot of work. So I own two razors, went back to my usual honing regimen and and exactly what I do is so I set the bevel on a 1000 grit King Stone, which I have. It's about it's probably about three inches wide. It's a water stone. So I soak it in water, keep it in that. And then I set the bevel. Now, when you're setting a bevel on a razor, I think you spend about 75 to 80% of the time on this stage because you got to get that bevel right. So I set the bevel on the on the on that and got it to where it was basically cutting arm hair, right? You get it to where you get it nice and sharp at first, you know, it's very dull. You don't get it. It's not cutting anything. And then to where it's starting to grip and then you take your thumb pad and you kind of just pinch into it a little bit, like you would check the sharpness of knife. You don't want to go vertically, you want to go or horizontally, you don't want to slice. You want to just touch, right?

Scrape and just to see if it bites down a little bit. And you can definitely feel the bevel on that and that if it shaves arm hair, you're working you're you're doing well it might pass the hanging hair test at this point, but it doesn't matter if it doesn't as long as you got a nice clean bevel, nice even edge and it's nice and ready to go, I'll then hit it up on the 4000 Norton, which is A22 sided stone, Very popular. Could not believe the price on these. They've gone up a lot in price, but they're about $100 now. But at least I think I paid 60 or 70 for mine some years ago. But they they last a while. One will last you a long time. And I used that for about maybe ten minutes on that one. I got that to where it was really getting clean, nice and nice and sharp and was cleanly cutting hair and just starting to touch that hat, which is the hanging hair test. I then went to the 8000 Norton for about five, seven minutes maybe, and just went on that nice and made that so it was almost shave worthy on there.

And then I have my favorite stone, one of my favorite white shaving possessions of my dark blue etcher stone, which is, um, very nice. I wish I had the yellow, green or green one, but I know those are a little bit better, but I it's hard to find. They're really expensive. But the, the dark blue is very nice and hard does do a nice finish. I use it on that for about maybe 8 to 10 minutes. And then my favorite stuff to do is I use like paste, I use I've been using diamond paste and get them on Amazon for very reasonable and use an old. They have an old vintage beat up strop that's really not used usable for the leather part, but the linen is good. So I do one linen with 0.5 micron diamond paste and I'll do about 40 straps on that 40 to 40 up and downs on that one. And then I go on the other side. I put 0.25 micron paste.

A lot of guys don't do this, but I find it gives it that keenness and I like the razor to be sharp and I'll do that for about the same strap on leather for about 60 times. And this razors pop in hair like, you know, with the hanging hair test. Like it doesn't even like it. Like it's scaring the hair to pop and gave me unbelievable shaves. Now, a couple of things. I have a little bit of a beard now. So prior to back in the day when I used to do videos and stuff, which I actually been asked to do again, I'm going to start bringing that back because a lot of people have been asking about some new videos, some new stuff. I'm going to start as soon as I can get some time. Uh, I have like a little bit of I grew a little bit of a beard and I like it so I don't shave as much. I don't shave my cheeks as much, but I do shave my neck. And like, I got to edge it out and really great shaves, man. I mean, right on the neck.

My middle, my next usually the hardest part to shave. That's where my hair kind of grows all funny and it just plowed through it. Now, prior to honing this razor, I just dropped it. I used a paste and I thought I was going to get a good shave. And it was terrible. It was tugging and I was like, Oh man, this is going to hurt. So I guess when it comes to honing less is more when you do that, especially on the one K, spend the time on the one K, but don't spend an eternity on it. And this goes through the progression and see how it works and then shave test. It may be more or less than you think you need to do, especially with the razor that's in pretty decent shape like mine was. It wasn't too bad. So Mike, I know you wrote me a letter and excuse me email and you were asking about this and just so happened that I was doing it anyway.

So thank you for the email and this is what I do. I just let you guys know I got received an email from a listener, Mike, and he said to, Hey, what do you how do you hone Razor? I'm trying to get in his honing razors. What do you do? This is kind of what I do. So this is in a in a nutshell and also some of the great, uh, some of the articles that I've written as well. And on honing, you can see on Sharpologist, and I'll give you a little bit more of an insight, be a little bit more for than one podcast episode to see that.

Moving along the Feather Museum in Japan. This place is incredible and I had no idea it existed until recently when I just saw it on a guy post about it on Badger and Blade. Now the website. I did leave the show notes in the show notes, the link to the website, and it is in Japanese, so you have to kind of translate it to English and stole a lot of the writings in Japanese. So it's hard to read, but you could see online a lot of pictures. There's a whole straight razor room of different straight razors from all over the years. It's two stories. They have old barber chairs. They have old safety razors, they have soaps, they have everything, pictures. They even have a life like a huge wall that looks like a safety razor blade that I put in the show notes. So you'll see the picture all made from safety razor blades from feather blades. Incredible.

I don't know how many thousands of blades it took to make that, but that was really nice. And then there's like an 8 foot or 10 foot tall, like replica safety razor feather safety razor in this one room, which I also linked to. I'll put a picture on the notes. So I was really interested in this and I'm like, Hey, if I'm going to Japan, I'm hitting this up. I think they also have a store. You can buy some stuff. It's at the Feather Factory or whatever area. It's I think there's some offices in there, but it's a two storey like exhibit, and there's a lot of really interesting stuff that I never even knew existed in all this time of what shaving.

So, you know, guys, if you have one, if you have an interest in it, show notes. Got the link to the museum itself, do a Google search to find some more stuff because you have a lot of Americans actually went to this place. And if you are a feather blade fan, I'm sure you can get some blades here as well. I mean, I love using feather blades. I think they're awesome. I think they last the longest. I think they're incredibly sharp. The only thing they might be a little too sharp, especially with shorts. So I use them primarily with like Jill, like milder safety razors, like a Gillette or, or I actually love it on my on my BBS one razor. I love it on that. And that's what it was really designed for to use that one. So I think it works great.

And also one of the best safety razors out there is, is that a plastic? I think it's called the personal feather. It's like 8 or $9 you can buy it on on Amazon. There's also some places online and that's one of the best head shaving razors I've ever used, too. If you're into head shaving, you want a safety razor. Are you primarily use that plastic feather razor for years and I thought it was great. Now I don't shave my head all the way down. I just kind of buzz it. So but it works really nice. No nicks cuts really clean. It's like almost like using like a cartridge razor without using a cartridge razor with one blade. So. So, yeah, if you get a moment, take a look. If you have any interest in that, let me know if you've been there. And yeah, have fun with that one because that's that is pretty awesome.

Or moving on to wet shaving etiquette on forums and websites. So I noticed a lot of new things that people have been causing a stir and a lot of a lot of the older guys are more experienced. Wet shavers on those forums have been kind of pointing it out. A few rules that you should follow when you're doing when you're in a form. Remember not forms are a great place to meet new people. It's all similar and just all but a bad taste for a certain hobby. I don't know if you guys have been listening. I had a bad experience on a watch forum. I am also into watches. I love watches and I love vintage watches. New watches. You know, I've been really into it. I don't have a very big collection. I don't have much of a collection and I don't plan on it, but I'm just still interested in it. I had a really bad experience in a couple of forums which actually caused me to leave because I thought it was ridiculous.

But I really it was probably the way I conducted myself and the questions I asked because I didn't do much research on it. So here's something here's some don'ts that you shouldn't do on there. Don't comment on older posts posts where the OP or the original person on the person that started the actual. Our post has already received the needed advice and sometimes this can be 10 to 15 years prior. So the worst thing to do is start searching through website, through forums and then commenting on something that's been, you know, closed out for over ten years, 15 years.

There was one on Badger and Blade the other day, 18 years. The guy commented on it like it was still relative. What this does is this takes that and brings it to the front of the forum, right? There's a good chance that the people there 18 years ago are probably not active on the site. If they are, they're going to be like, whoa, what's what's bring who's bringing this back? So, I mean, in that amount of time there were joking like, hey, this the OP could have actually had a a son and the son would be wet shaving for several years now in the amount of time it took from that from the last post to the new post. And I get it. You know, a lot of people get excited and they see it and they want to comment on it. But what you do is you start raising up stuff and they start really kind of I mean, you're setting yourself up to get basically, you know, kind of made fun of a rag down a little bit because the OP doesn't really might have been asking a question and they're not really interested in probably seeing something 15 years, ten, 18 years prior.

Giving advice when you just started wet shaving the six month wet shaver, I call it, especially with straight razors honing and with blade choices and stuff. Guys, if you are just starting out, I get it. It's exciting. You learn something you want to really like share your your knowledge. But here's the thing. You're on a website where there's people that have been doing it now for, you know, some of them almost 20 years. And the last thing you want to do is start giving advice out that's wrong or you might not have experienced enough yourself. I could tell you right now straight razors, it takes well over 1 to 2 years to learn your how to shave properly, and that's doing it often. And I was one of those guys that used to do the advice thing and say stupid things back in the day because I learned how to do it and I was really not doing the proper way, right?

So don't start giving advice, but do like offer suggestions or offer websites of where they can find more stuff or people that do know it. Don't be that guy for advice when you just started out. You will. It won't look good and you may not. And really after like three four months, you really don't know what you're talking about anyway. So at least I know I didn't. So yeah, just be be, uh, be cautious with that kind of stuff. Giving advice and being that mentor when you just literally started yourself. I've seen that a lot. And it's really, it's tough because a lot of the guys are, you know, their intent is good or they're trying to get, you know, you know, popularity or make friends or something like that. But it really the guys that have been doing it, they know and they don't want any part of it constantly having to justify that, you know what you're talking about or saying you completely vouch for somebody.

Look, if you know what you're talking about, you don't need to vouch for anybody or vouch for yourself or say, Hey, this guy can vouch for me. It just sounds like you're really trying to prove something that you may not know much about or it just doesn't sound good. So if you have to constantly say, Hey, this guy can vouch for me or I have been doing this for five years or something like that, and I know what I'm talking about. You're getting in an argument that you're not going to win and you shouldn't probably be in any way let the other person take care of it. You don't need to justify what you've done in wet shaving and just say, Hey, this is the way I do it or this is what I think and that's it. And that's all that you really need to do. I do, though, ask questions and advice for situations that you're in. Be be open to ask questions, ask a lot of questions. There is no stupid question. Comment. Whether you agree or disagree and have a compelling reason to back it up. If you don't agree with somebody, say, Hey, look, I don't agree because this didn't work for me or I noticed that it didn't look. How did you make it work? Ask more questions. Share your personal experiences of what you've seen and heard in places that you've been. Share it. Tell everybody what you've done. Hey, I had a great experience with Art of shaving soap, right? I had a great experience with a wolf whiskers brush share that. You know, that's great. People want to hear that. They say, hey, the quality of this was really nice. I love it. It looks good. Don't say the quality is great.

I've been wet shaving for 20 years and this guy can vouch for me because this brush is great. Now just be really genuine. Don't be that person to say a lot of stuff where it doesn't make sense. Hey, guys, welcome back to the podcast on this beautiful start of June first podcast in June we are halfway done with 20 and 23. I can't believe it if you're wondering what I have so much energy. Well, there's a lot going on in South Florida right now. If you watch sports, we have two major teams in the finals. We have the Panthers, the Florida Panthers are in the Stanley Cup finals and the Miami heat are in the NBA finals. So if you're living here in South Florida right now, Southeast Florida, it's a lot going on.

Personally, I work down in the area where the Panthers play about one town over. So a lot of stuff going on, especially when you're in the alcohol business. You know business has been booming. So it's been really exciting to be in South Florida, especially in the last six months when we had, you know, we had a lot of college basketball going on. We had the Owls school that I actually went to. They made it to the now to the final four right in that area and then you had Miami University in Miami for basketball also made it. So it's just a lot going on with sports.

So I mean it's just been nonstop, especially if you're in the retail business. You haven't had much of a break every other week. It's like a holiday. So yeah, I'm pumped up, I'm full of coffee, all that good stuff and and yeah, we're we're really excited down here.

But let's talk about some wet shaving, because we have actually a lot of exciting things going on the wet shaving world. Currently we've got two brand-new razors that came out, one that I kind of gave to the last on the last podcast case I just found out about. It literally allows recording, and another one that came out from a longtime producer that has made a comeback, as hasn't made arrangement about four years. They're back now too. We have another french razor company that's that's making beautiful razors with beautiful presentation. They've done a couple of pass around in the forms and now readily available for custom purchase only, and then another major wet shaving soap. Well very well known brand no longer using Tallow, Mitchell's Wool Fat is no longer using Tallow in their base. I'll tell you a little bit more about that, and are you mocked for wet shaving? What does that mean? I'll tell you my thoughts and what I found online during the week. So guys, without further ado, let's get on with the show.

So I've mentioned this company several times in the past and I'm very excited to see that they've actually they're back in the game. They're they're actually doing razors and they came out with the new Razor Paradise, which is Razor american razor company. That, if you haven't heard of them before, I think they were the last. The last one they made was in 2017-2018. They made three major razors. They did Stanley steel razor, they did titanium razor, two versions of titanium razor and a couple of other. Those there, three main razors, and then they did a few other ones.

I own a paradise to titanium to have when I bought it, when it was new and when I got a chance to get one it was only limited to like an 100 pieces. It's an awsome razor. The finish is great because it's actually a polished titanium razor and these razors were all machines in the United States by one producer who had a background of machining and I think he forgot. I'm sorry, running a blank on his history because I haven't haven't talked to him for a while or talked about the razor in a while. And now they came back with a new razor that is called the salon, the salon. This razor is based on CNC machine and it's a 100 and $19 so their razor is used to be about two or three times, but this one is actually made in China under the tolerances of Paradise. It is a tolerance of about point millimeters. Critical tolerance is on the on the gap and it's a double-edged solid guard bar. It is currently sold out.

On the initial release it came out. I believe it was about a week or two ago and just seeing some of the reviews on line, a lot of guys have not received it yet. Come of them are getting it. Belie. They're being shipped out on the fifth of June. So they haven't actually the day that this this cast is coming out. So nobody's seen it yet. But it does look like a very basic kind of off their design. It's not fully polished so it's really more of a affordable piece that you can get now a lot of guys, I saw a few people in the forms talking about: hey, it's made in China. Aren't you making the United States anymore? Well, I get it, the contracting it out, but it's also it's only a 100, an 20 bucks compared to, honestly, I think the as 400 when it came out and I was back in 17-2018. You know a lot going on there, for the value gives everybody a chance that you can actually purchase Paratime razor and you know what if the talents are the same and it's working well, you know I'm pretty sure that it will be a great piece to add to your collection if you get into it. So Paradime Wealth, you welcome back to the game. Looking forward to seeing some new stuff on the horizon.

From what the, from what your website says, it does look like. There is something coming up. So we're really excited to see the next, the next step in the Paradine journey in wet shaving and a little bit of a teaser from the last show. I didn't have a slide for it, but I did just find out about it literally that morning. It's the Wolfman four, which is based on the Artists Club style blades. That razor has now been released. They did action on it last weekend and I believe that there is now the ability to order one. If you are on the waiting list and you do the order form, you can actually get one for those of you don't know, Artists Club is a modern style safety razor made popular by the Cobra back in 2000 and 122 and 13, maybe 14 and 15 a little bit later. The Cobra razor was the first razor to use it and then very popular with the Mongoose. The Mongoose razor, one of my favorites, actually made in my home town here where I live, where I'm currently living. The Mongoose razors were made.

The aluminum ones were made in Delray Beach, Florida and the Stanley steel ones were made in Miami. So another South Florida brand and then a couple of other brands have come forth and made this design. The Colonel razor was that it was a good one. I think a couple of other companies have made it, but those are really the two that made mainstream. That made it like a thing, with the Mongoose making it the first three-piece design and the coper making it like an injector style, which was really a nice razor. And they still think, believe they still make the cobra. The mongoose is no longer made.

So Wolfman's got their their version of this out. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a great piece. You know everything he does is very high quality, very good fishes are always always nice, might be a little late to the game on this one because I know these razors were very, very popular back in like 2015 to 2018. So we'll see what happens. And good luck to Wolfman on that. On the new release and now now razor company that actually it's been around for about a year now, a little bit less or a little bit more here there and it's it's a french safety razor company that's basically the story is a gentleman, was a machinist. Cousin came to him, said making safety razor, made a few prototypes and enjoyed it, and now he's making razors as well.

So Alter, Alter All Durdan, we'll call it is a french company based at the South of France. One guy, Show one Machinist making some safety razors from. You know the basic medals. You have stainless steel, titanium copper. I think he's doing something. I think those are the three he's using right now, different designs. He's got a double-edged safety razor and he's got a single edged Artists Club style safety razor design as well. But this honestly, the quality in these razors look awesome. I was looking at them on line. I saw the passion they did on the form they did: one on Badger and blade as well. So positive reviews.

These razors have high gaps, so they're like around point to 1.5 or something like that. It was very, very high gap for safety razor you know, usually for for me I like you, know that 155. Actually you know when it comes to the gap it doesn't really matter as long as the blade exposure is right and you get a good shave. I mean some of the razors I have have a massive gap and they they have very mild. But for the most part, when you see a larger gap, blade gapped, you think more of agressive razor. But these razors, from what I've been seeing, are not that aggressive. I've been hearing nothing but positive reviews on it. He's been tweaking the design and now has a pretty decent website with a nice set up. You can buy parts, you can buy head, you can buy, you know, to cap everything. It is fairly expensive. I think the razors started around €300. So they are up there.

But there every single razor is made to order. So if you order it he's saying it's about six to nine weeks before you get it. So it's that's how long the backlog is on it. Every razors machine to your tolerance. And also there is a beautiful like display box that you can get two made out of wood. That looks really nice. I thought was probably one of the nicest boxes. I've seen solid wood box but it's an additional €200 to be included. So if you're really into the customer razor game and you want something different or you're looking to buy that next high and razor you got a few $100 to you know in your budget this would probably be the one for you again. I have not held one or seen one yet. Hopefully maybe some of you guys going to the magar meet up or we're at the mage meet got to see one. If you do have one or if you've used it, let me know. I'd like to know a little bit more about it and get some more insight and just seeing you now on the form. There's a couple of videos out on it, but there not much. If you're interested. Guys, look at that a brand-new french razor. I left it in the link shows. I left it to the, to the form on the shave form so you guys can check out the the review and it's about seven or eight pages long, can go through the whole process interested in seeing some more people with them and seeing some more pictures of these in the shade of the days.

And I don't know how I'm going to be able to tell you guys this but Mitchell's Wolf. It is no longer tallow based and at first I thought this was a joke and I saw online and then I started doing some research and it is true: the new label does not have the first thing, is not the first ingredients not tallow anymore? It is not allow it. If you're looking at right in the show notes it's sodium plate which before it was like in the old label it was sodium talma. So it doesn't look like there's any tallow in the new Mitchell's Wolf fat that people have been getting. So I mean I'm personally a fan of Mitchel's would, I think, have a puck. An older one that I've been using actually was using it a lot lately and it's got the tallow in it and it's just amazing. You know, I mean it's wool at it's Michael's Wool. We've all, everybody's been wet shaving for a few years, have tried this soap en I first started in wet shaving. This was the big thing. Everybody was going for it before. There were artisans, because you know there was maybe three artisans when I started what shaving back in 2010-2011 and Mitchell's wolf was a big know. It was a big, big thing. Then you know a lot of people had to have it to see this change.

You know, i'm pretty sure they're probably going to have good performance. A lot of guys on line have been lathering the new one. A lot of people are upset, but it does look like the performance is still there side by side comparison, probably the best bed, but I have a feeling you won't notice much of it. But why did they? I mean it's a wolf, that's what they've called it. So it's really, if you think about it's supposed to have tallow in it. Are they going to change the name or they going to call it something else? I don't know, but the same design.

Remember this. This recipes been out since the 1930, so almost a 100 years, and now they've just decided to change it so it could be, it could be cost, it could be something else, who knows, but no information really from the company. Yet I did email them. So I'll let you know if I find anything. But yeah, Mitchells Will Fat is now seems to be no longer tallow based soap. So hope. Hopefully we get some more information on that. Maybe it's just a fluke, maybe something different, maybe we'll see. Maybe they ran out. I don't know. But maybe well, hopefully we'll see the old version or the new version might be just as good.

All right, and also, are you mocked for wet shaving? What does that mean? What am I what I mean by that? So being mocked by wet shaving means, do people like don't care? Do they just say hey, you know you're this is a dumb hobby, wasting your time or something like that. Now I was recently going through my usual like routine. I go daily, I go into the forms, I lock it, I just kind of read what's going on. I look for posts that are different, right. Look for stuff that I haven't seen like I've seen. Help me decide to buy safety razor or help me buy a new brush, and I see that every day for years. You know, you see that. So II kind of go through those, but when I see stuff like this, you know I kind of look at it and I said: well, you know I'm really thinking this apply to me, so being mocked for wet shaving. Personally myself, believe it or not, guys, I don't I've been wet shaving for a while and I've been writing and and buying stuff and and stuff like that.

I don't really talk about it outside the forms and this podcast. To be completely honest with you, you know, I don't go out in the street and try to like say: hey, guys want to be a wet shaver, here's a watch, here's a safety razor, in fact that most of the people that I know don't even know that I am in the wet have. I guess it's something that I've used myself and I keep it to myself because it's my thing right, it's my hobby and I have my separate life. I guess I have my wet shaving friends and stuff and then I have my, my family and stuff like that and I've never really try to bring both of it into it. You know I think I've discussed it several times, but really it's kind of like people like, oh, that's nice, you know that's great and then okay.

So next is the Miami Dolphins, and I mean that's kind of looking more minstrel hobby. If you look at playing like shooting pool or playing tennis, you know a lot of parts, a lot more people can relate to it. Wet shaving is is bigger than it's ever been. Don't get me wrong from compared to the when we first started, it's just kind of like a, like a small hobby that I don't know. Some of us just get into it on our own. Some of us get into it because somebody else showed us. But being mocked for wet shaving, I think one is it. It's kind of. It's kind of weird because like some people say, hey, I'm a wet shaver and one of the guys on a thread said yeah, I mentioned it, but never was like, oh, that's nice, or they say hey, why would you do that? Why would you shave with old shaving gear? Or why would you buy somebody else's razor?

You know that's something that a lot you hear a lot of, but they don't realize like what the hobby is about it. And how first would clean them mean? Let's be honest here we do clean our razors and they are sanitary. You know some people don't don't think that. You know, they think that all those are just razors. You now I just use that for a task and then throw it away like I have one razor to tell somebody, you have a 100 razors or 10 razors and 60 shave so they might look at you like you're crazy right. So don't feel that way. We're all in this together and if you, you do know that you have a community out there that you can reach out to that. We do understand. That's what's so beautiful about wet shaving forums, wet shaving groups and stuff like that.

There are a lot of people out there that think like you and me and say: hey, look, I need more than one razor and one I need more than one soap or I'm interested in how this shaving brush performs compared to that one. Or you know the history of what shaving, the history of vendors and and just talking about it. So it's weird. I mean, I don't know if this makes any sense, but I kind of like always separated the two just because I don't think other people would understand it and I just don't know if they want to. You know, discuss it right. So I have, like my very good group of friends. I've been friends with some, the group I've been with for over 20 years, some of my friends, and they don't even know. We've discussed it briefly, but they're just not into it.

So I don't really bring it up any more, but then I also have some wet shaving friends that all I do. You know we we talk about everything and wet shaving and they kind of understand. Hey, look, did you try this razor or did you try that blade with that razor? How do you feel and they're like, oh yeah, yeah, I did this. Or did you see that soap or whatever you know, kind of discussing it like that like you would like? You would talk about sports or something like that. So I don't know if anybody's felt that way. If you have, if you're listening. But if you did, you know, send me, send me an email. If you like to discuss it, I'd like to put it on the show. If you, if you have a moment and let me know if you've been in that situation or how you handle it. Because usually for me I just kind of just don't mention it or I'll talk a little bit about it. You know sometimes one thing is I do for me with with what have I do, a lot of emailing?

I do a lot of like forum posts and stuff like that. That's kind of like how I used to communicate and get out and learn more about it. But if you like, very rarely will you meet somebody else that's into it or that you know is into it just in passing. I think since I've been doing this podcast I've met a couple of people and I was actually one guy saw my name on my name tag at work and said: hey, you do you are you lowrider? Do you do podcast? Go wow, yeah, so I mean that was really cool. That was great and we got to talk about some some wet shaving and stuff like that.

But usually I just kind of go about my day and don't really talk about it, which I don't know if it's the wrong right thing to do. But yeah, this really got, as could see. This got my head the while in my head turning and I was really thinking about it and reading it. So check out this part of the podcast, guys, and if you feel like you have, you feel the same way. Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the podcast on this beautiful May Day. Yes, we're I can't believe it, man, we're almost that memorial day here this year is just flying by. It's really hard to believe. We're almost that memorial day a little bit.

Some news just came up. While I was just really just scrolling through this morning I found some stuff, wasn't able to put it into the show notes, but I'll be able to talk about a little bit. I'll start the show off with that after we go over a little brief view review of what we're goin to be doing so today on the show we've got, art of shaving is giving away something big for Father's Day.

I mean this is, I've never seen them do anything like this. It's a massive, massive thing going on, so massive gift. So you're not going to want to miss it. Even left the show notes in the show. Actually it's next week, so really looking forward to hearing all the great stories about that. I wish I could go to it, but this time, but I think I won to go. Definitely on. Next year

I got appreciate oil recipe that I've used before and I've shared before I got another one from another website that's even simpler and works actually really well. If, if you're in depreciate, oils know a lot of us aren't but some of us are.

So I've got a decent recipe to share with you there and one of the most interesting three I've ever seen in a wet shaven form definitely want to go over that with you guys and father's days around the corner for gift-giving and little bit of a guide of of what to do and what not to do when giving a gift for for your father or for you're listening from significant others perspective. An you're want to get something for your, your husband or something around that line or your you're actually in. Get something for your dad here is what to do and what not to do in the wet shaving world. So, guys, without further ado, let's get on with the show,

so not included in the shows, just was looking at, just scrolling through this morning and found a few things just didn't have time to be able to put it into because the shots already done and sent wolfman razors have created the forehead which will be auctioned off this Memorial Day weekend. They'll have about three or four of them. That will be on the live action on the website and then starting next week it will be available for order. This is based on the Artists Club Blade. So if you're familiar with the Mongoose, the Cobra razor , the, the colonel bunch of those other ones out there, this is what it's going to be, based off of orally interesting concept, what they're doing there with. That didn't see this one coming.

I didn't think that Wolfman was going to end up being in that part of the game, but I love the Artists Club razors. As you guys know, I'm a huge fan of the Mongoose brand, which which is still around. But I have a couple of Mongoose razors so I'm good for probably for the rest of my life. But I mean for everybody else out there. If you do get a hand, your hands-on Artists club safety razor . There are a lot of fun to use and they are very, very efficient, great blades and everything. All the blades are pretty good quality, the few that are out there but really exciting to see that James out of out of Canada is coming up with this. This concept, it's it was really this, I'd say the artists club razors were really peaking in 2015 2016, where everybody was going nuts over them, but they're still very solid razors and actually based on an original design. So I mean they're not you now double-edged razor that's just been rebuilt, which is Joe. Get me wrong, it's really nice.

These razors are all you kind of like, the modern wet shavers safety razor right, that's what we have, that's we've brought in one of the races that we have, that that will be with our generation. So good to see that another one of those coming out look, Wolfman, always makes some great quality, always speak positively of love myself. So I'm sure that this razor will will be awesome and will definitely be up to their standard as well.

So Father's Day promotion, guys at Art of Shaving, you're not going to believe me when I say this. I've talked about Art of Shaving. I actually went to the last brick-and-mortar store in the world. That was, it's actually in Disney, Disney Springs. So you don't need to buy a ticket to Disney if you're there. So you, if you are, you've never been into art of shaving store and you've been doing this only since 2020 or 2021 or whatever, just never been in one and you and you with your family on vacation. You owe it to yourself to take a 10 20 minute break and go see this and go into the store and just walk around, because what was once a brick-and-mortar store that everybody used to say it's the overpriced proctor gamble, whatever it was, it really originally wasn't proctor and gamble.

It was of a different company with privately owned company that was sold to them and now the product is available on readily online with promotions. At first Art of Shaving, there were no promotion, there was never a sale. I remember going in there and there was never anything on sale. Only on Black Friday if you bought something, was full price and now you see on line they're doing 20 and 30% you know I got some stuff from Christmas from from a relative this year, you know. So I actually use it. I think it's great and I would do miss the Brigand Motor Store. So if you are on vacation and you go to Disney World in Florida and Orlando, Disney Springs is right around its right on Disney property, it is just a shopping area and my wife and I like to call it like Disney World without the ticket, because it's basically got everything Disney has except the rides. It's got a bunch of stores. If you just like shopping, it's great.

If you like good food and stuff like that. It's great and it's got that disney vibe. You owe it to yourself to break off from the family and take a break because as stressful as vacations are, you can just walk around. The store is very relaxing. It's very quiet inside it, just like an art of shaving and it just it's exactly set up like the old ones, where it's still get the barber shop and everything in there. So definitely check the amount of ore in the area. But this year they're giving away free straight Dove straight racer with the purchase of a full-sized kit. Left click on the picture on the show notes and that will get you directly to the site right now. This is not, you know, Chavette or anything like that, is a real dove straight razor. It's like giving away a $100 or something. I don't kno if they have too many straight razors, but I've never. I mean I would never think in a million years that somebody would do that. I'm actually thinking about taking them up on this just to see if it's real. But I have. I mean it can't not be real and it's still been going on. S

o it's Father's day bundle, it ends on father's day. So you got a couple of weeks to think about it with a free straight razor, a dove straight razor with purchase of any full size or travel kit. So you're loking to spend about maybe an 100 and $50 on this. So, guys, if you are looking for a gift for your, for somebody, for father, for dad out there and they like straight razors, they want to take or they're on the brink of taking, of using a straight raise, this is the one they get because the dois good, it's good straight raiser.

Right, it's a good razor. You're going to not have any issues with it. And also the kid comes with a brush, comes with all the soap, pre shave, all that stuff. Art of shaving is good stuff. It is good quality and, I think, for the price, with a free straight raiser. I don't think you. It gets much better than that. So I'm I'm definitely very excited about this. So check it out. All right, so Maggard, their annual meet up is next week coming up. I believe it's the week, the first week in June. So next weekend it's been three years since they've done it. So if you are not aware of Maggard company Maggard, it's it's which started off smaller as a small razor company. Believe Brad Mager and his wife were. He was restoring straight razors and stuff and selling, you know, vintage stuff, and now it's they. They purchased a really vintage building in an Arbor, Michigan, I believe, and it's turned into like a big online store with a brick-and-mortar store.

So, if you're any, they're open from Wednesday to Saturday and of course they're open every day now for online orders and stuff where they probably do the primary. Primarily, most business is probably online. I mean, remember us, we Shavers. We're spread out all over the world, but they do meet up around this time, the first week in June every year, and they've been doing it for several years. Pandemics slowed them down a little bit. They've stopped since 2020 and now they're ringing it back. There is an ability to buy a ticket. To get in. The ticket includes a bunch of stuff like you get, meal voucher and everything. They're doing: an after party at a local hotel. They've got special pricing on hotels if you're going, if you're going in that area, so I mean they. They. They do their work on this. They do that. There's a ton of of vendors. He's on a ton of guests, but it's also limited to about 200 people and the last time I checked he had about 35 seats left.

So I'm sure they still have a few left her. As this podcast is coming out, just make sure you go and check it out if you're in the area it is going to wed. Shaving meat up is a lot of fun, guys, I mean honestly. Every time I go to one I always meet a bunch of people that I never would have met and you know just passing and to find you know that it's not like when, when you go to work every day and come home, you find people that are talking about it, like if you're if you're into watches or if you're into, you know, shoes or something like sneakers or something like that. Usually you can find people in the areas that you're you're in every day that are into it right. It's very popular.

So if you're into like mechanical watches or if you're into luxury watches, chances are you can go and see somebody and talk to somebody else in person on a daily basis. Right same thing with. If you're into Jordan or if you're into sneakers or something like that, there's a good chance you can go out there and find somebody because there're a lot of people wet shaving, not so much. I think we're still. We're still a little bit more scarce. I mean definitely leaps and bounds from where we were 10 years ago, but right now it's still kind of a smaller area. So when you get to go to a meet up and meet up with a bunch of people with similar interests and that you can actually talk lingo with what saving lingo with it's fun. You know I've been to a couple of them. I've enjoyed them and I always meet somebody that you know becomes a new friend and never really lose that friend in what shaving and you you never. You get to see the products and stuff in person.

You know Magards has a lot of stuff, so you'd be able to see in person, you'll be able to purchase whatever you want and they're having a nice after party afterwards. There's a bunch of restaurants. From what I've heard heard, it's a very nice area and you've got a lot of people going through a lot of what she and vendors and stuff. So you'll be able to see some cool stuff. So if you haven't gone to meet up and you're in this area, I highly recommend doing it. And if you, if you aren't you know, create a meet up, you know, make a meet up yourself, have a few people locally, come meet up and you'll never know who you're going to meet and the new lifelong friends that you're going to make.

So for a long time I've never really been into pre shave oils. I don't use them too often, although when I first started wet shaving I bought, you know are shaving kit and I came with the oil and I used it and I do like it. I mean it does work nicely. It. I wouldn't recommend it too much straighter. Having only reason is because you need your, your face to be a little bit. You know little, not dryer but a little bit not as slick, because you don't want to slip in and cut yourself and you want your hands, your fingers also to be dry. So that's why you use the look, the loom block, for attraction. B

ut with regular shaving definitely works, especially with safety razor shaving. I've found a really good recipe that I've been sure I tried online. I've been using one that that was claimed to be art of shavings for for many years and this one is about the same thing. The actual feel of this compared to the art of shaving pre shave oil is spotted on almost the same. The only thing is I don't use the sense because I don't have essential oils. I just use the oil base.

So it's two and a half to three ones of castor oil which you can get anywhere. You you can get it on Amazon, you can get it in a grocery store, you can get it like Walgreens or drug store, one ounce of olive oil and then, if you know the optional thing, I kin save essential oils which is like 15 drops or so, and this is, if you want to, you know, sent it so you can buy good essential oil. You can get it at some store. You would recommend getting it from a reputable online vendor just because I don't know anybody in person that sells them of any scent that you like. So if you like something like, you know if you want sandalwood or something like that, you can go get that. That's optional, you don't really need it and then you have, you know they. They recommend putting vitamin oil in it just to give you a little bit of protection from the sun and a little.

Give a little optional, like shine to your face. But really it's just the castor oil and olive oil. That's it. This one's very simple. I tried it out. It smells the same as the unsent art of shaving oil and works spot-on the same. If you want to add sent to it, you can. If you don't you don't have to. It's olive oil, castor oil. That's it and works great. It does really work nicely and it has the same feel. The smell is not too bad. It's very neutral smell if you, if you again, you could put the essential oils if you have it, if you don't don't need it and if you want to use the vitamin oil, that will just give you little little bit more of a dig, protection from the sun, little bit more, so little a little more, a little, just another way to get some vitamins into you as well. I guess right, you know, so try that.

Get a little glass bottle. You can buy those little glass bottles we use it for, like whiskey, tastings and stuff. If you, you know, if you have whiskey, friends or or scotch, we get these vials online. You can buy em really on Amazon, the very, very inexpensive it works great for for for like, for like aftershaves and stuff. Just get them online, get a couple of those go and you can make this and one bottle will last you like six months. I mean it's great. So there it is probably one of the best pre shave and simplest preciate oils I've seen ready for you. So the recipe is right on the show notes, just in case you want to copy and paste it and go right ahead and make it. And let me know how your results on that.

Moving along today is one of the most interesting threads I've ever seen on a form. Recently I found the thread, your most unpopular controversial shaving opinion on Badger and Blade. So I read this and I could, and it started up only a month or two ago and there's like 40 pages of it. So I'm like this is interesting. Let me through this, read-through several of the pages and just kept on-going what other people say. So what does that mean? What are the most unpopular controversial shaving opinions? So what do people always say? You know. So 11 guy wrote, I copied and pasted and I hope I'm sure they won't care what one guy wrote.

He just did it really easy and he put five things of what he said right. One person posted, like the first one you posted was most people I've seen don't have sensitive skin and a coarse beard and their technique just sucks. I'd say yeah, that's pretty spot-on you know talking about, I have sensitive skin and stuff like that. Yeah, I'd say 9080% and 90% of the newcomers that have problems don't have really bad technique and they haven't perfected their technique. That's why it's really important. I mean Mantic has that book to read. It's a great read. You have to take the 30 days or so and learn how to use a brush. Trust me from the guy who did not do that and thought the same thing where I was shaving for years and thought I didn't have sense of skin, then said: oh, I have sensitive skin, I didn't I just really didn't know what I was doing.

There are zero science. Making a decent later. Those patent techniques are just are just crap. Well, I'd say that that is. I'd say there's science to it. Probably not. I say just really just practice makes perfect on that one and then a couple of other ones he writes: is it's it's pretty funny. So I mean I left the link for it in the show notes. You have to go through it and you'll get a good laugh, especially for you guys have been doing for a while. I really enjoyed it and I'm going to give you mine here. So I wrote what shaving will save you money and wrote in parentheses: if you're listening to this, then you know if you are listening to this podcast and you, you understand what shaving will save you money.

Yeah, no, I never did for me. You can adjust your shave with an adjustable raiser, but no one does. I think that's pretty spot-on because every adjustable raiser I use I find 11 link on it and I just keep going with it. So if it's a Gillett, you fat boy or whatever, I'll I'll put it on three and I keep it out of three. I never ever adjust it mid shave or or what I'm doing above or against the grain or with the grain. Pointing with natural stones provide better edge. A lot of people will say that for for the most part my edges work well with just synthetic stones. I haven't had any problems with synthetics. I think it's easier with synthetics. I think Natural Stones is just more. You know more of a craft, but will you get a better, a better edge with a natural stone than a synthetic stone? No, you will not. Not, in my opinion and justification post for not having expensive gear if you don't want it, don't bash it. That's what I'm that's in parentheses, wrote that justification post for not having expensive beer like a lot. Excuse me, a lot of people say: oh, I will never buy this razor, it's 400 down. Would you buy it when you now a razor works just as fine. All right, I'm all four guys. We know you don't want it. We know you're not going spend the money.

But why are you bashing somebody else's work personally? For me it's the same thing you see on like watch forms and stuff like that. You'll say: well, I will never buy a Rolex watch because it's ridiculous. A casio $20 watch does the same thing. Yeah, we know everything like that in life. The same reason why people buy rolls-royce and some people buy a shave cruise. You know the same thing: a base model car will get you that point and point, just like a luxury car. Well, luxury watch will tell the time, just like a cheap watch and a cheap razor will usually shave you just as well, if not as expensive raiser. But I can't stand seeing this form saying always. Why would I spend my money on that?

And and do this when I get perfect shapes, you're not reinventing the wheel. 1000 other people have said this already. We get it. You now try and do something different like, hey, I found this raiser. It works really well for me, and this is why because, as you could see, like that other guy wrote on his probably are probably don't know. You're prep yet if you're talking like this, you know or whatever, it's just, it's just hilarious. So those are mine that I could just come up with. I think I could get more too, but I thought it was just I thought was interesting. If you have your most unpopular controversial shaving opinion, I would love to hear it. I mean this is one of the things that got me.

I'm like smiling right now because it's awsome. I just kept reading it, and just this is something that if you want to just send me an email, you dont even have to put any content in it, just some bullet points of what you think. I'm going to share it. If not, I'll share it on Badger and Blade if you want. But it was. It was really awesome and it just made me laugh a lot of the stuff. Some of it was really funny, so those are mine. If you have yours, please feel free to share it.

Really looking forward to hearing from them, and I'm going to continue to read this post and and and get a good good laugh for the next few days. All right, Father's Days around the corner. This is the second largest wet shaving holiday of the year. You have Christmas being the first one with gift-giving and you have Father's Days being number two.

So a few tips for giving the perfect gift are sorry. Scroll down here. One know what he likes. Please don't just purchase items because you see them. This is a big one. I say that's a lot if you go to Marshall, if you go to tax all those second stores whatever, and you see that they have a brush and soap, just don't purchase it unless you know they like it right. You're going to purchase it and get it for somebody. They're going to be like. Well, you know I use this razor and that razor.

This isn't something that I'm going to use or whatever, but it's it's a nice, you know, gift to give, but just be careful because some of that stuff is junk and a lot of people don't like it right, especially with some of the soaps and brushes and stuff like that avoid such as marshes and tax, which is what I said before. Plan it out. You'll need to order soon to get it on time. So remember, you've got. You know a lot of these vendors are online. You're going to need least a couple of days to get it here, if not longer.

Plus supplies are limited on a lot of the artisan stuff and really simply just ask him, ask him what he likes what he's looking for. Ask for links. You know, ask him. Can you send me a link to what your favored Wet savoring site is? You know they'll send you Phoenix crimes or or barrister or man or something like that, and he'll send you the site and say: hey, look, this is my favorite, my favourite artist and my favorite site. You, anything you order here will be great, or this is what I'm looking for, but really understand what what he likes and knows what he wants. Avoid big target stores or whatever like that unless it's something that they like and then planned it out.

Make sure you get it on time and just ask, ask them. Ask him if what do you want and you will have great Father's Day? Well regardless, yu'll have great Father's Day now, because the gift is the thought right. The thought is more important than the gift. But if you looking for that special gift, especially for the newcomer for the wet shaver, you know here it is. Just follow these four steps and you'll be completely fine.

Types of Single Edge Razors

End of an Era Brush maker Brad Sears has announced his retirement. He’s been making brushes for the past 11 years under his own and the Morris and Forndran lines.

We’ve been seeing several long term artisans retiring, which brings in a few interesting points. I’ll tell you my thoughts.

Types of SE Razors -GEM Style:

-Artist Club: These are modern razors that take the Feather Artist Club blade. The blade is longer and very sharp/lasting. Notable models : Mongoose, Cobra.

-Injector Razors: Although many will identify this style with one particular make, injector razors have been an alternative to DE razors for over 60 years. The Schik injector being the most popular and one of the razors to survive the Gillette Wars. The blades are injected in the razor and out through a special mechanism in the blade bank. Today, Schick injectors are still plentiful and the Supply wet shaving company makes their own version which was featured on the show Shark Tank.

-Vintage Star Shaving aka Shovel Head: These razors received their nickname by their design (looking like a shovel) and were the inspiration behind Gillette’s invention of the disposable blade. Deemed a safety razor, these beautiful pieces of art came in a case with a strop and required maintenance much like that of a straight razor.

-Rolls Razor: in a class almost by itself, the Rolls Razor is still popular amongst wet shavers alike. It features an all in one sharpening/ honing case and comes with a non-disposable blade that’s designed to stay sharp for years.

-AutoStrop: One of my favorites, the Autostrop razor has the ability to be stropped with a set of gears that allow the blade to flip on each side. They are readily available and fun to collect!

-One Blade: The Oneblade is in a class by itself. It’s a modern razor that is unique to it’s own design. We’ll talk more about the Oneblade in the next show.

Meet Up At Razor Emporium This past weekend, Razor Emporium hosted a meet up at their storefront/shop in Arizona. Several demos and neighboring vendors made up for this awesome day. There was even a TV spot on the local news for the event!

Charcoal Goods is Retiring

Brian from Charcoal Goods announced he is retiring, and liquidating all razors and parts. The website is no longer in service. Brian turned a lot of heads with his razors, and started off making them with a vintage machine finished by hand for the first few before switching to a modern CNC machine.

Why Titanium?

As we kick off Titanium Month let’s first go over why?

Well, there is no real reason to purchase a titanium razor. I mean, they're expensive, hard to come by and don't shave better…right?

Titanium for my Straight Razor?

Titanium may make a great safety razor but it’s not suited for straight razors, unless you just want a titanium handle. Titanium tends to be more brittle/softer than steel thus forcing it to lose it’s edge faster and will not stand up to the abuse of carbon steel.

I’ll tell you mine.

Shave with a Straight Razor at least 2x per week.
Sell several items that no longer get use.
Try at least 1 new soap per month.

How To Add Wet Shaving Stops When Traveling1, Once you know where you’re going, google “wet shaving +closest city name”

Add a stop on your trip ( if you’re traveling with family this could be difficult)
Post in a forum that you're visiting that area and ask if there are any wet shaving places (best approach)
Plan your stay, how long you’ll be there and reach out to the place to make sure their open.

How to Give the Perfect Wet Shaving Gift Giving the perfect wet shaving gift can be a very difficult task….especially for spouses!

Here is a quick guide on how to get the best wet shaving gift!

Know a few things about the recipients interests Ask yourself these questions:
1. Do they like vintage or modern gear?
2. Synthetic or natural brushes
3. What vendors do they currently already own?
4. Have they mentioned anything they were looking to get?
Phone a friend. If the recipient is active on forums or facebook there is nothing wrong with contacting a friend and asking them what they want.
Contact the artisan or vendor they frequently use. Look through their collection and check out the sites of the stuff they already use. I’ve heard of stories where spouses have even contacted an artisan and asked what to get.
Simply ask. Yep, just ask the recipient what they want.

Do not just purchase a kit at stores like Walmart, Marshalls etc. The true wet shaver ( even the beginner) has probably already tried anything they can get at a brick and mortar store and this ill collect dust.

And today is July 4th, 2022. Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Wet Shaving Talk podcast on this beautiful summer day. That's right. Happy Independence Day, USA, guys. For you. For all of you out there celebrating. I hope you have a great having a great holiday with your families and and having a good barbecue and all all the above and having just a blast today. So happy Independence Day, USA. So today on the show, guys, we do have a lot of new information coming out and some really good news that I'd love to share with you. First off, the Wet Shaving Talk podcast is now available on Amazon music. So that's a big step there. I do want to talk about the giveaway winners. We had the most participation out of any giveaway I've ever done with this podcast this last week. It made it so I had to add winners, so we had more than one. I'll talk a little bit about that and we'll start talk going over. We're actually going to talk about one of their stories as well.

First thoughts in the high noon razor. So I was telling you guys I was going to pick up a new razor. I'm going to tell you of the first thoughts and we'll have a full out, full scale review coming up in the near future. And how important is Prep really? Is prep that important with what shaving. This has been coming up and I did have an email about this last week. That's why I wanted to talk a little bit more about it, about how important shaving prep is and how it might be even more important than the razor that you're holding in your hand. And what shaving stories. Abby story. So Abby is one of the winners from the from the contest. And we're going to feature their stories in a segment on the podcast for the next few weeks. So we'll talk about his story in which shaving world. So without further ado, guys, let's get on with the show. All right. I think I'm a good level in my wet shaving products now and my my inventory that I'm good and I'm exactly where I want to be. So I'm pretty happy about that. I got I got the collection down to a manageable level of stuff that I use. So thank you all for participating in the last several giveaways that we've had in the last few months.

But this one was great because a lot of I got a lot of entries and it was really hard to pick a winner. So the grand prize winner was Abby. He sent a great a really good story, but also the runner up Brian, runner up Bill and runner up Chris all sent out great stories as well. So I definitely want to showcase their stories in future episodes. So we have Abby is going to be this week at the end of the show, we'll talk about his story and then we'll feature the other three in the next few weeks. You know, one thing is I do really enjoy reading about your watch, saving stories and just learning more about you guys out there and what you've gone through and what's shaving and how you've gotten to that spot to this point, how you made it to this podcast, right? How do you listen to what shaving and how did you get into, you know, all this all this this world of of that we're into today? So thank you all for for participating. And you always can continue to send me your stories or if you're your questions or anything like that, please let me know. If I don't know the answer, I will find it. Also, if you if I have some more giveaway stuff, I definitely will be able to send you something or or try to.

And yeah, I mean, it was just a lot of fun. So I really enjoyed reading the stories, a lot of participation. I was able to respond to everybody that participated so great. And if you didn't win, you know, it's nothing against you. It's just honestly, I got a lot of I got a lot of I try to, like, really send everybody something I love. I love to send it even. Even if you don't win, I want to send something. But I mean, I just I'm kind of running out of stuff. So I did, I did my best on that, but I really appreciate all the participation. It was really fun. And, you know, always send me something if you have it, you know, just send anything you want to share, anything, any questions you have. And I will answer it as soon as I can. And if I don't know the answer, I will find the answer for you. So, guys, thank you again for the participation and and keep on shaving. So I recently I just picked up the Western High Noon razor, which is by it's actually I talked about it in the previous shows. It's an it's a made in USA razor that's priced under $50 or around 50 or $60. I'm sorry. And I just received it.

And I'll tell you my initial thoughts. I got a few shaves in it. The build quality is is what is to be expected. I think around that price point it is not staying. At least I couldn't tell if it was stainless steel look like Islamic covered metal but but the polish was nice and even it is a big razor. So it's probably about, I'd say almost five or six inches long. It's probably maybe about a close to 100 grams. So it's heavy. It's a solid razor, really good razor for beginners. It's very mild and is be a great razor for beginners. So if you're looking for something that's made in the USA and and uses all biodegradable packaging and all that stuff, you look for something like that. This is a good razor to set you up with a beginner. Now, for you guys out there that are pros, I've been doing this for a long time. Want something a little bit more aggressive? Something that's going to take a little bit more thought and using probably want to pass over this. You probably don't want to get this razor. This is not really for you this is not for the person that's using a point h six gap wolfman razor open comb razor right this is for the or Tradare open comb original first gen right. You know those raises are very aggressive that's probably this razor wouldn't make.

Wouldn't make you really smile or anything like that. I mean, they said it would probably be more for the beginner. Good head shaving razor. Very, very, very mild. So I'm still learning it. So learning how to use this razor. Have you only use it a few times. So I don't really have that big of a take on it yet. You know, I like to use it for a few weeks, primarily before I can come up with, you know, a good review for it. And I have some more information coming out on this razor in the near future. But I mean, if you're looking for a razor for under 60 bucks, you know, this is probably one of the the better ones out there to get quality wise. It's definitely a good razor. But I mean, also, if you're it is mild. So it is a very mild razor, too. So it's a lot of fun using this. I love it when new stuff comes out and I get to try it. And yeah, I mean, it's just something that I'll have a little bit more information, just my initial thoughts because I just haven't used it long enough with the, you know, different scenarios yet. More for that. More. Excuse me. More on that in the near future. Any questions on it? You know, always email me at send me a or anything like that.

I could give you some more information in the future, but we'll definitely have a full scale review coming out to it. All right. How important is shaving prep? Really? Okay. So we've talked about this on several occasions, right. How important is shaving? Shaving prep is extremely important. And I was talking to a couple of guys online recently, actually got an email about prep and I'm like, what's the FA advice? A lot of a lot of new wedge chasers. There's a lot of believe it or not, COVID created a lot of new wet shavers out there. There's a ton of them, right? Everybody started it. You know, when we're sitting around doing nothing, we're emailing stuff. Hey, look, what about wet shaving or straight razors or something like that? You know, just listening to a few videos and stuff. A lot of people talking about how much the the I think it was sharp. I'll just said that the straight razor search was up like. Felt like so many thousands of percent like it was up a percent during during COVID, because everybody's just I mean, you're sitting there doing nothing, sitting at home bored. So a lot of guys have started shaving and a lot of them have jumped in, got to got some gear and they haven't really perfected their prep yet. And the picture in the show notes shows you terrible prep this guy is how happy using and I picked this picture for a reason and this dude on on the show notes here and I don't know him personally I never met him it looks like just it's just a stock photo is lathering up his face and probably the worst way you can it's not done right.

He doesn't have enough lather, not enough water. And his brush, you can definitely tell, is not loaded up. So this is just a stock photo for somebody to take a picture. But this is what not to do when you lather. You know, we talked about this in the past a few years. You lather with a bowl, you lather with the, you know, base lather. Whatever you're doing, you got to get it. Really, really. You got to spend a little bit extra time with it. So my advice out there when you when you're new to what shaving is, first off and everybody, a lot of guys will agree with me. A lot of the old timers and I say old timers because some of us have been doing this for years now is prep is key. So add prep to your shaving routine with your current form of shaving. If you're using a cartridge style razor, add a brush and soap to it for at least I'd say 50 shaves two months maybe before you even venture out. And I'm telling you, this will benefit you tremendously when you're lathering, use more water and more and lather longer than you think you should.

And I'll say it one more time. Use more water and lather longer than you think you should. When you're starting to lather in a bowl and you think you've got a good you think you have a good lather. Go another minute. If you think that you have enough water in there or if you're brush is soaked enough, just dip it in water a little bit more. I learned this from an old time wet shaver a long time ago when he noticed how my prep was like our friend here in the picture. And if sorry guys, if this is one of you guys out there, I apologize if you're listening to this and this is your picture, but this is a this is a I have the rights to use it. It was a free stock photo on online. And you could definitely use you could definitely use some help with this anyway. So I hope you're listening. Anyway, sorry about that. And he showed me when I was blathering, he was like, Dude, your, your lather is bad. Like, you're not prepping your face, right? Get your face. Of course. Hot water, of course. Did that, right? We had that done. When you're prepping, it's like I started lathering my face and it was like very dry. So get it wet or sit there and take your time with it.

Spend another minute. You know you're going through this, the motions of wet shaving, enjoy it. And I did that and my lather came out with my soap and my face. I came out the best it's ever come. I couldn't believe it. And all I did was sit there and add a little bit more water and spend another minute longer than I usually would. Maybe, maybe, maybe 2 minutes. And I just sat there and lathering it in there and really spent a lot of time. I used more soap than I usually use as well, which is fine. You have enough soap in there? Trust me. Don't worry about being conservative of soap. A lot of guys like to scoop their soap. I'm not into that. And this gentleman showed me, he said, don't do that. He said, pour little water in there like bloom the soap out and just really go to town on the on the brush, load the brush, load the bowl a couple of times and then go at it. And the lather is so much better. It's such a better shave. I'm telling you guys is a night and day difference. I do it now. I really beat up the soap when I get one, you know, I probably go through three or four times the amount of soap I used to use back when I first started, when I when I actually learned how to do it.

And the prep comes out better and you will get zero irritation, if not less, and no cuts, no nicks or anything like that, because your face is really prepped up, right? Really lather your face and lather it more than once. Like get a really good lather all over your face and then stop again, look at yourself and then do it again. Right? Go in there. And consistently when you're if you have a bowl or if you're using a puck or if you, you know, loading right off the soap, add a little bit of water to it and get that the brush tips it wet again. Right. You know, feel it, get the feeling, get it really creamy. So where it looks like a cream, right? Not just just a little bit to wear a little bit on your face to where it's like, okay, it feels like a soap. Make it look like a cream when you do it, even with soap or creams and then make sure you're covering up all the stubble, you shouldn't be able to see the stubble on your face when you're lathering up like this gentleman here in the picture. If you look at it, he could see the stubble. It's just a very dry lather. It's not going to be a good shape. You can just tell right now.

It's going to be a terrible one. It's going to be very dry and it's going to hurt. That's why you want to get nice, wet, so hot and also very rich lather on your face in a workout perfectly. You'll be so much happier, I telling you so for for those out there that we're asking about prep in the last few few shows and I did get two emails on this you know on this new wet shaving my my recommendation is spend the time on your prep and really practice on that before you get into the razor. It is 75% of the technique I think is in that when you use a safety razor or a straight razor, prep is very important because you need to get that glide with the razor. If you're using a cartridge razor, it's not that important because hence why you can use a KANGOO That's that's not really that good, right? And what it does is that dries up your face and just makes it easy just to glide right through it. It doesn't look at, you know, honestly, the the later on effects, right? Later on when you go out, when your face starts breaking out and stuff because you get too close to the shave. So my advice, get a good prep spend and all I can say is knock it out in a few words, spend an extra minute longer than you think you should whenever you're doing anything.

And what shaving always when that when you're loading your brush spend an extra extra couple us swirls on the on the soap and if you're lathering your face spend an extra minute doing it and I guarantee you you'll get better results. Even though I, I do a long prep, I'm going to add another minute to my review, my excuse me, my prep and I'll let you know on the next show how it worked out if even if, if I can get even better results than I'm getting now. He's converted new and old friends. He's been he took his father for his first straight razor shave. And he's traveled on great things and touched in the past. However, his favorite what shaving story is when recent, when he helped his folks down downsize and move them into a retirement and retirement community recently. And he found his father's 1963 shave bowl and shave brush. His mother gave it to him, and he was just ecstatic to have that being in the wet, shaving, wet shaving world, to have his father's vintage shaving bowl and brush. Now, if you see in the pictures, it's a it's actually he said he actually said that it may be junk to some people, but it's a valuable heroin to him, which I really agree with, because that is one beautiful shave ball. I mean, I'd never seen one like that before and the brush too. So definitely keep that as a heirloom. That is a beautiful bowl. You don't want to to lose that. And that is a priceless piece of what? Shaving cream, of course. Shaving, excuse me. Collection. So I agree with him. I'd say that's a I think it's beautiful. So I don't think it's junk. I think it's really nice. So he decided to keep transitioning his to his children. So he's got his kids in the in the to a handsome, mild razor. So he bought his teenage sons Henson razors.

And I'm sorry, teenage kids. He had his daughter. He gave the red for his daughter and blue for his son. So they both have one and they seem to love it. And even and it looks like his whole family's been getting involved into it, too. And even his wife has been borrowing one of his razors as well. So, I mean, this is a whole family doing what, shaving. So I don't know if he can get much better than that when you start, what, shaving, converting friends and now you have the whole family in it with some classic gear and some new stuff as well. So, Abby, thank you for the story. It was great. And and enjoy your grand prize. And next week we'll we'll feature another one of the of the winners of the runner ups. First off, I wanted to say I apologize for missing a show and I think I'm late on the second show. So it's been about a month, a little bit over a month since I've been on the podcast. To be completely honest, I had a few health issues. I pulled my back out really bad a couple of weeks ago. If any of you that experienced back pain, you definitely can feel my pain on that one. And I feel yours. Because when that happens, you can't do anything. You can't even like look at your phone, let alone a computer screen. And yeah, that happened a couple weeks ago.

And then my son was sick from school and had a stomach bug and ended up giving it to me and my wife. Conveniently around his birthday. So it's been a rough couple of weeks for me health wise, but I am feeling tons better and really happy to be back on the podcast to do this again. Really, I've been missing it and I had a couple of things done for the show and I had to change it up a little bit.

So I apologize, guys, for being out, but you know, things happen here and there. And remember, always remember, health is first your and your family and all that stuff always comes first. So always make sure you take care of yourself and try to stay healthy. Even though COVID is kind of dissipating in the world, it is still really important to make sure you're still washing your hands and stuff like that. So yeah, it was a pretty well, pretty cruddy two weeks there for me. But you know what? Everything's back to normal or getting back to normal, and I'm feeling good and really just happy to be talking shaving, to be honest with you.

This is a really a fun part of the week for me or every two weeks just to be able to talk shaving and be able to research and and read up and talk to some vendors here and there. It's a lot of fun and it brings it back. You know, perspective is just being a great overall hobby and way of life. I think that's what I like to call what shaving. I used to call it the sport of what shaving.

But I used to get so much like not hate but like comments online regarding Oh, what do you mean? It's a sport, you know, it's not a sport. You know, just people just, you know, I like to call them, like, keyboard bullies or something like that, just to say something like that and that in that area. But, you know, it is what it is, right?

So whatever, I guess you could say. So today on the show we want to talk about, we did have the giveaway. We had somebody win the giveaway. So I have a picture of it. And he received all this stuff. I'm glad he did. I have another giveaway that I'm giving out the second place winner too. We did get a good couple of good emails regarding their collections and stuff, so I was really happy to see that guys and I did get a few other emails regarding just life in general, a couple people asking if I'm okay, I'm just because I missed a show or two.

And I just want to say everybody, just to answer that, I'm perfectly fine. Nothing is wrong. I'm back to normal. Just, you know, a couple of things happened in, you know, one after another. So it was a very rough few weeks there for just health reasons. But, you know, nothing major, nothing going to, you know, lingering on or anything like that. Everything's back to normal. So talking about the giveaway, then we have the replica toggles from global shave or shipping. Now I haven't seen any pictures yet or anybody out with them, but they are starting to ship, so I've really wanted to focus on that a little bit this week.

Also, Global Shave came out with the JFK shave set from like a replica from the JFK, the famous JFK Gillette. I believe it was an old type or I forgot what it was. And that's coming out as well. That's out there, the shave rescue razor, cleaning brush. Now, I've seen a lot of that online. I'm not too sure, not too well versed with it, but I've been hearing a little bit about it. I did see the brush itself here and there, and I thought it was pretty cool. And honestly, I mean, I've been using just a regular brush, like a toothbrush, but this brush seems to be a little bit more in-depth, can hold in your palm and everything like that. So I'd like to talk a little bit about that.

And a new supply is razor. So the new razor from supplies is really coming out now. It's a little bit bigger, has like a little open comb and advertised with the next stop technology. So pre-orders already started a couple of weeks ago, so it would have been on the last show and I haven't seen anybody with them yet, but they should be shipping out, I believe, in the summer.

And shave brushes from Badlands shaving. You know, I've been really I've been looking for different brushes here and there, but I always use the same few brushes that I do own. And just to see this, I was really interested in some of the black and some of the actual handles they have and the and the knots and everything. Very interesting, like little hybrid knots, excuse me, hybrid handles. So just messing around, searching around. I found this this vendor, and they're actually very reasonable. The brushes start around 70 bucks, so and we'll talk a little bit about that as well. So without further ado, everyone, let's get on with the show.

So just though, just to talk a little bit about the giveaway, you know, congratulations, Joseph. Listener A relatively new listener. New what? Shaver. We got them started with a nice setup, as you can see in the picture, in the show notes, I got him set up with a Crown King, set a little scuttle arts of shaving starter kit with a nice badger brush, some blades and a nice the actual double edged razor that comes from a Los Angeles shaving company, which is the inspiration for the BBS one, one of the inspiring pieces for it.

That was one of the razors that John sent that was sent to the Wolfman well before I'd even started to make the boobs one, which is my personal leaf, my favorite piece of what shaving equipment that I have. You know, that is definitely one of my favorite razors, and I know we'll never be made again and there's only a certain amount of them out there, but I use it quite often, probably more often than anything else.

And I do enjoy it. I mean, it is it is a great honestly, it's a great razor. But so I was able to get him something. So that was great. I'm really happy about that and just being able to help out and be there for a fellow wet shaver. And you know, honestly, I've got so much stuff just sitting there in my my collection. It's just it's okay to let it go, you know? And that's where I was talking about in the last couple of shows, just having so much stuff that you don't really use anymore and wanting to bring in more, but just knowing that, hey, I'm out of space, so that's why I'm going to do a few more giveaways here.

I've been giving away stuff too. I gave something to my neighbor the other day and everything like that because honestly, I want to start trying some of these new artisans, but I can't when I got my whole cabinet full of soap. Right? So yeah, that's where we stand with that giveaway. I'm glad you got it. And glad, Joseph, you know, thank you for the for the submission and, you know, telling me a little bit about your wet shaving story. You're a relatively new wet shaver, only has a one razor, one brush.

And, you know, that's that's what it's all about, guys. You know, it's just it doesn't matter if you have a huge collection with a lot of soap and every type of mug you can think of. It's just matters that you are enjoying the wet shaving hobby and way of life and just, you know, building upon it, you know, keep going and keep having fun because it really is. It is a lot of fun.

I will definitely be working on getting you something sent out in the mail. Like I said, I do have a few things left and I will definitely start doing some more giveaways in the future too as well.

So these replica toggles have started to ship from Global Shave. Now Global Shave is a company overseas that's been I guess they've been producing razors I guess through CNC machining. They did the fat guy, which is a fat boy replica. And actually at first I was I was very skeptical on this razor, but I have been hearing somewhat decent, happy reviews on it. Now it's a relatively it's under $200 a piece. I mean, it is expensive and you can still get a fat boy for under 100 if you really look around, you know, and it may not be in the greatest shape in the world, but you can get one. And to be able to see a toggle, I think these are going for around $200. I'm not too sure on that, but be able to get that.

I thought that was really, you know, a good value there. And what they're doing is they're taking, you know, they're replicating the parts and making it closer to the original as possible. So, yes, you are getting a toggle per say. We do know that Janus Razors did come out with a toggle. A few hundred pieces or 50 pieces. I'm sorry. It was and it was a little bit mixed reviews. I tried one very aggressive, but it was. But the foundation of it, the build of it was really good.

You know, it was definitely a quality piece. So, you know, to just to see that this is one of the hardest razors to replicate. I think it is one of the most most of the like, most parts and most complicated safety razors I've ever seen. And I know that after talking to a couple of guys that work on these things, they say two. Yeah, the toggle is pretty intense. You know, it's more intense than the bottom dial and very similar to like the red dot. You know, these razors are not easy. And also they weren't really meant to be taken apart. You know, these newer razors now you see, like, for example, the Rex ambassador, you know, that razor is designed to come apart, to be cleaned. Right. You know, and that's what Matt did when he built it.

He knew everything from working on thousands and thousands of razors. You know what will make these things last longer? And one, he did stainless steel construction, too. He made it so it can be disassembled and cleaned. And and three, he made it so, you know, one, he would have the ability to make parts for it or fix it himself. So he's like the one, one man, one stop shop for that razor. You buy that? And in five or six years, you have a problem.

You can send it back to get service and they'll fix it for you and they'll and what better way to do it than the person who invented it and built it, you know? So that's. Kind of where we stand on that. So with this toggle, really interested to see what the reviews will be. I have a feeling they'll be pretty. It'll be a good, good piece to add to your collection. For those of you that got in on the on the beginning and the pre order and a good price point too it's under 300 under I think it's not a $200 but I really awesome. I mean, I'm a huge toggle fan myself. I love the toggle.

I know it's not the most ample design and it's very troublesome with the doors closing and everything. Everything needs to be kind of perfect on it. But still a fan. I still have one and I still use it quite often. It was the it used to be the holy grail of a lot of us wet shavers out there. I mean, I can tell you right now, back when I started always seeing a toggle, it was like, wow, toggle. One day I'll get a toggle and you still see it today. Someday I'll have a toggle. Someday I'll get that. And then some guys say, Oh, I found one in a, in a flea market and a tool chest for and I got it for $4. Well, I've never been that lucky, but for those of you that were congratulations, that's really awesome.

So also global shaving. Now, while I was looking at the toggle, I notice that JFK replica set now the replica the JFK set is one of the most sought after most googled. Believe it or not sets that I learned from a couple of of what shaving friends write. A lot of guys are like, oh, a lot of people ask about the JFK set. A lot of people are obsessed with what presidents, past presidents used in their routines. You know, example, you'll hear a lot of people talk about pens that the presidents used, their shaving sets, what watch they wore, what suits they wore, what cologne they wore.

They were right. A lot of people are interested in that. And believe it or not, a lot of presidents really just use basic Gillette razors. It wasn't really that. And I'm sure today, you know, the presidents of today, they probably use the same thing. Maybe they're using a mock three electric. Who knows? I don't know if they're using safety razor. It's not really one of the things they speak too much about. But, you know, past leaders, this was a big deal and a customized shave set for JFK is very sought after. I mean, honestly, you see a lot of people talk about it and want to see pictures of it. And this is a replica of this set, which is it looks like a basic Gillette three piece tech that's gold plated. So, I mean, honestly, it's nothing special about it.

If it's very expensive, I probably would hold off on it. But it did have a little, little container with JFK's initials on it for his brush and a soap stick. So yeah, very cool. I'm looking forward to seeing that. A couple of those in the wild as well. I haven't seen anybody posting about that yet.

So supply. Supply has come out with a new SC razor. And this SC razor is is honestly advertised with next stop technology. So there's like a little open comb, guard, guard on it and it's engineered.

So then if you go to shave a little bit more aggressively or on your head or something like that, it will stop the nicks and won't work and won't make you. But pre-orders started last month, about a month ago. So around the last time we were supposed to be on the show, it was going to be live. And it's again composed of the same equipment, same stuff, stainless steel as like the original supply razor.

Now I have a supply razor. I've been very fortunate to meet the supply team and before they went on Shark Tank, which is actually if you're a fan of Shark Tank, it's one of my favorite TV shows. Honestly, I watch it every Friday, like religiously when I'm not working.

Usually I work late on Fridays, but if I'm not, I'm always watching it or I will watch it the next day. My wife and I love Shark Tank. I mean, we really are a big fan of it. And I was able to see that. I remember when they were on, they were actually advertised, not advertised. They were on the show of Shark Tank a couple of years ago, which is really cool just to see one of one of our own, you know, on TV, which is really one of the first times I've seen one of our vendors or one of our artisans on TV, and they were talking about this, the original supply razor.

And and, you know, I don't know if they made a deal or if they did, but, you know, still it was on TV and and that's an awesome thing to happen for them. So this new SC with next stop technology should eliminate up to I guess 80% of your nicks or something like that and composed of the same equipment. So it's still stainless steel, still really, you know, a high quality piece and a price point, I think a little bit over 100 bucks or around $100.

So, you know, in line with the last, with the other, with the other supply. If you are a supply fan, if you've used a supply injector razor, then this is definitely for you. This will be something that you'll enjoy using as well. So looking forward to seeing the reviews and seeing when these things get sent out and let me know if you've got one or if you've tried a prototype or if you have, you know, if you're on the list so we can stay in touch and I can hear more about it.

So moving along, guys, just to talk about a little bit on the shave rescue cleaning brush. Now cleaning your razor is something that one I never really did because I thought, hey, I use it with soap, I rinse it. It's not a big deal until you really look at it and take your even if it's a three piece razor. Now, if you have an adjustable razor, any adjustable razor, you got to keep it clean because honestly, guys, you will get crud and stuff in the middle of the mechanism, especially for those vintage Gillette. They don't come apart easily.

Now, if you get honestly, if you have like one of the older fat boys. Where it has a two notches and you can actually unscrew the bottom of it with a modified pair of pliers or screwdriver. Those are probably the best fat boys to have or best because you can take it apart and it will take out the the the doors, the silo doors. And you can actually wash and rinse the inside a little bit better and clean that little mechanism and then put it together.

I mean, I'm not one to like taking apart my razor, but if you have a one that's got one of those punch pins or those punches that are put in there, and you can't really take it off that easy unless you have like a hammer or something like that. I would hold off, but these razors get dirty and nasty, so just to see a specialized brush for it, you know, I think that's a great idea.

Now, what I do to clean my razors is I use to be completely honest, I use dish soap, Dawn dish soap, and I also use a toothbrush. And what I'll do with my adjustable is after I'm done using it first, I thoroughly rinse it and then I'll drop a couple of drops of dish soap in there, you know, periodically scrub the scrub the the base, the base of the razor down, scrub everything down on it and let it or I'll just kind of run water through the mechanism with the silo doors open.

You can do that or you can you can put it into a ultrasonic cleaner. If you have one of those, you can get one very reasonable or a good one for 50 to $100. And that's a great investment if you plan on, you know, restoring anything, really, if you're doing anything that needs like micro cleaning or razors are great watches, pens, all that stuff. If that's your hobby, you can use that for for a lot of things and you can just put it in there like every ten uses or so for a little bit and let that clean it out because really it's preventative maintenance, the crud it gets in there.

That's what makes these 90% of these things fail. So, you know, a big deal with that, that now the shaving brush itself is just the shave rescue shaving brush. It's just a basic brush. It looks like it's got softer bristles. I've never used it, but I can tell you that it is. And I'm looking it up right now to get a good picture of it while I'm doing this. It's it's kind of like fits in the palm of your hand. It looks kind of like like something you would use to, I guess, clean like tires on a car if you ever had a tire brush that would fit in the palm of your hand.

And you just scrub the scrub the outside tire. That's what it looks like. So the rescue brush is actually it works well with with the excuse me, the cartridge razors, but I think you could probably use it on a safety razor as well. You know, looking at it, it's advertised. It's supposed to get all the crud out of there, all the oxidation, everything like that.

And it is made actually in the United States. So that's pretty cool too. It's made in America and it's engineered that you can use it. And I think I'm sorry, I think it's got a suction cup on it. So and you can put it right on on a on a countertop or something like that and you can just scrub a clean and that's what it's advertised to do. It's got a little, little areas where the water will drain and everything like that and keep that blades nice and fresh and clean and thus prevailing. So it's really it's advertised for four cartridge razors, but I was looking at it to use on a safety razor and I think it would work just as well.

But you've got to maybe do a little softer and just go easy on it. $25 is the price. So I mean, yeah, you know, it's a lot. But if you're into the specialty stuff, try it out. If you do use, I guess, what you call cartridge razors, it might be a good, good investment for you. Or you can use a toothbrush with your regular safety razors, too. So, I mean, that's something that, like I said, it's been working well for me. Soak it in in a in a bowl full of hot water and dish soap for a little bit and then just scrub it clean.

I don't even use any micro polishing compounds or anything like that just to keep that unless it's like a honestly, it's a solid stainless steel razor or something like that with those old Gillette's I don't do that because the plating is very thin. So check them out, guys. Shave, rescue, cleaner, brush, American made and it's $25 for one. And you can actually buy a big pack if you want if you want to do resale for about $300 or send you a bunch of them.

All right. And moving along, we have new shave brushes from Badlands shaving, badlands shaving. Now, this is a vendor I didn't really I never really heard about until, honestly, just looking around. I've been looking around for razors. I've been looking around for a new stuff to talk about. And I found these new brushes and a picture on the show. It shows you the like it's a a dual like a wood slash resin handle.

So I thought I've seen some vendors doing this before and I really think that at the price point, starting just for the handle 70 and you could start with a knot for around $90. Yeah, it's really cool. So I'm not sure where these blanks are coming from or where these these handles are coming from or how they're doing it. I haven't really looked that much into it yet, but honestly, really cool designs. And I thought it was really I just wanted to share them with you guys today because I thought it was really nice and very interesting.

So yeah, kind of a of a quick show there today. A lot of information. Sorry, I had like two weeks of information for the same amount of time, but honestly, just really, really happy to be back. I can't tell you how much and talking what shaving. So guys, a couple of things I do want to say. Now, I did get an email from somebody. I forgot who it was recently and they asked me, say, Hey, how come you don't do Joe? How come you don't do interviews? And the reason why I just don't do interviews is not because I don't think the listeners would enjoy it. I think they would. It's just there's so many other areas where those those interviews have been done. It's just hard for me to justify doing another interview for an artist, and that's been interviewed four or five times in the last year and a half. You know, they're going to hear the same thing from here. It gets very repetitious.

You know, there are a couple of other, what, shaving? You know what's shaving excuse me, podcast out there. And I've seen that they do a lot of interviews and they do like a meet and greet and they have a couple of guys that have co-hosts and stuff like that, and that's something that I would probably look into in the future. The thing is, one for me is timing. I do this around weird times because I do work a lot, but hopefully that will change someday and I won't have to work so many crazy hours. And I could do something where I could just focus on, you know, a regular schedule like like a normal person. Right.

So, yeah, we'll see how that works. I'm definitely working on some new content and stuff like that coming up here soon in the next few few months. All right, everyone, welcome back to the podcast in this beautiful April day, April 11th can't believe it four months, and I always say that on a podcast. But it is hard to believe because you know we do this show every two weeks and time does fly. It really does, especially when you're using shaving soap. So few things I'm going to get right into just going over the outline of the show notes of the show this week. First I want to talk a little bit about having just a little bit in general of what's going on in the industry. I'm going to start off the show with just what's going on and what I've been seeing in the forums and online and stuff like that. So it's a brief little summary of what's going on.

We have a new launch of brass razors from chiselled face and I have to say I am constantly impressed with the work that they're doing over there, chiseled face, after a few years of working on them and building these razors, prototypes and stuff. They are very impressive and they cease to amaze me with new items here and there. So I'm just really enthused to see this and be able to bring this couple couple of pictures on the website now. They're doing all their orders made to order too. So all the excuse me, the raisers made to order now, so you'll actually be able to get a chance to get one without having the weight in the cue or anything like that. Oh yes, we'll talk a little bit about that, that company in general.

I actually used up a whole shave soap. No, not all in one sitting. I'm talking. I used one up and I actually have an empty one and I have a picture to show you and I posted it on Facebook just to see what the reaction was. And I got a lot of comments and a lot of pretty cool information from people asking me how many shapes it took and how long it was. How long did I have the soap? And I got to be honest, I haven't really used the soap all the way through like that, probably in like six or seven years when I used to have like five or six soaps, when I used to use them up and then buy a new one. Now, since I have a pretty sizable collection, I don't think this happened. So I mean I'm really I'm just like in a about it. So I'll I'll tell you little bit more about that in detail. I've got a spring cleaning give away. So, yeah, you don't want to miss that. There's two packages at the end of this coast that you will want to listen to. But yeah, checked that out at the end of the show and the new supply or single edged razor that's out. I saw the article on Sharpologist and a few few guys out there using it. There's a preorder. Lot of people talking about this razor. I'm a fan of the company, so I want to talk a little bit about that in detail as well. So guys, and I've got a Jampac show for you this week.

So without further ado, let's get on with this show. So what's shaving 11? Just talking a little bit about what's going on? You know I was thinking this week on how to open up the podcast and how we can just really sit there and just talk about something different every week.

And, to be honest, just talking about, I think you know just what's going on in the industry really works. I think it keeps keep on, it keeps me in the loop and too it keeps probably everybody else in the loop and it gives us little little ice breaker to start off. So few things I've just noticed in the wet shaving world there's just a lot of, you know, a lot of new releases coming out again. Now we're starting to see a lot of new razors coming out.

We're seeing some companies that have, you know, concepts and stuff like example, we have the new supply razor that came out that's actually available for preorder and you know that was a company that that was on shark tank and all that stuff. You know we just saw so much come from that vendor and now they're coming out with new items and just I saw a bunch of new releases for soaps and you know I saw some really cool concepts this year so far that I thought was just really, you know, just really innovative for the for the industry in general.

You know, for example, know talking about. I just was looking just searching through vendors and I saw that Phoenix artists and crimes have a flare tip, basically flair tip, double overhead, open come double open. Come excuse me, which is a design that was from the cave, came way back. I think in the 19 fifties or sixties or maybe even in the forties, where they used that double open. Come know concept and you know for Douglas Smith from from he's a big fan of this concept.

You know and he he really stands by it and just to see him come out with different ideas and he took like that flair tipped style razor and then put a new head on it and put a head like I thought that was pretty innovative. I thought that was really cool. I have saved. I do own a from. You know I've had it since they came out. Maybe one of the first releases the nickel one. So it's not too. I think it's pretty much know. It's an older one and I do bring it. I love travelling with this razor. You know I do usually travel with it and I use it here and there and put it on. You know I keep it on the original handle and stuff like that. But just to see that concept put on the flare tip. I thought it was a really nice touch.

So I thought it was cool. So I wanted to give a little bit of a shout out to for that and then just seeing that a few more different sense like the the passion fruit sense coming out from you had the shave shop. Do it and you know the the Passiflora, like homage soap. These guys, if you guys know the Passiflora story, we've talked about it so many times and just to see now you know, Barrister Man came out with a version of Passion Fruit and then the shave shop came out with it and and those actually bought both those releases. Just because I'm such a fan of the Passiflora style, the passion for soap, that I just thought it was really cool that that came out this year too. So I mean just right now. I think what shavings in a really good, strong are lot of great things happening and I think a lot of people get along too. So that's really good. So you don't see any any fees or anything going like that, especially on line.

The only thing we're missing is those meetups, but I see that they're starting up again. We're going to start seeing some more. So looking forward to seeing some meetups and all that fun stuff too. So guys, that's just a little bit of what shaving one. And on my thoughts this week, you know, I take, I really like I start on Monday, I start researching, I look and what I do is I have like a little open file on my phone on the notes. If you have an Iphone, it has like a little note option. I just put my notes in there all week-long and take pictures and I put it in there. You know what I'm going to do for the cast and for for two weeks and now this is just some of the notes. I have been thinking about just the innovation and stuff, so really exciting stuff in the wet shaving world. And just guys, keep it up, vendors keep it up, you know block riders keep it up, youtubers keep it up because it just really just helps this industry go all right.

So moving along, I want to talk about that new launch from Chiseled Face. Now Chiselled Face is a long term vendor with software. Excuse me, so they've been making soap. They actually make really good soap and different different types of sense. You know I do have a couple of their sense and stuff I've had. I've used their soap and thereafter shaves. I think I've always been a fan of that, the product. But you know the concept where they came out with the razors. It's something that it's been in the works for years and finally to see it come to life. It was a big deal and you know we've talked about these raisers in the past, but now the new brass ones just came out and I just was like okay, I saw them and I was like wow. This is this is the real deal.

Now this is a 100% made in-house I believe it's made in safety razor, had finished and now, if you look at the picture, I put in shoots just with that design, this is really shown some nice artisan machining. I mean this, I know it's all CNC machine, I believe, but still I mean this is a lot of time and effort put in these raisers and they are beautiful and they're under, I believe, under $400 or under three, thin there, like 200 something. So guys, I mean honestly, you know, if you're looking for a high-end raiser, I got my eye on one of these and as soon as I get some space in my cabinet I can justify another one. I'm getting one because I think this is really something that's really special and I think it's going to continue to be around for a while.

You know I do think I do think these guys, I think his face. I'm I'm not sure what the back log on the razors are. I don't I don't know if it's as bad as Wolf Man yet, but this is the next. This is the new Wolfman. I mean, I'm honest, honestly, reviews have been great on it with the with the, with the shave performance from them. But I'm going to tell you guys, I now the look in the field, these raisers, I'm sure of it. I can't wait to get my hand on one because I'm going to really try. Just it's just there's so many good designs, it's hard to pick. So looking into that, guys, I think this is definitely going to be the new fad, definitely on. You know it's going to be a fad coming up and it's goin to be a big deal. And I think if you're going to get it, get it on-the-ground level if you can, because they just they just look amazing there getting better and better.

So if you have one of these razors and you want to talk about it, you know, please please please send me an email, love to talk about it with you and and so you can justify my decision in getting one, because it's taking me a lot not to love them. They look great moving along. So I talked about in the beginning of the show. I used up a soap now. To most people in the world they're robe like. Okay, that's not news. But to you guys that are wet shavers, there's a bunch of you right now saying I feel I feel you, Joe, I understand where you're coming from, because it doesn't happen that often and when it does there's a sense of accomplishment and a sense of sadness because the soap is gone.

But luckily the soap I used to doppleganger from is still available, I believe. But man, man that last shave. As you could see in the picture there like a little slipper, I did use one more shove out of it and barely got one out. It was. It was definitely monumental. It was one of the top because I was like wow, I just I've never really used too many soaps that fully before, all the way to the end. And this is the first one in a long time. I think I used to use Vanderhagen a lot back in the day, when I first started and I was in school and didn't really have you know much much knowledge on wet shaving and just I knew why I could get, you know, Walmart and that smell, that scent of Vander Hagen still very much in my nose like, even though my smell has been muted by lot by about 75% as I had COVID last year, which is sad. You now have not regained most of my sense of smell yet, or I may never.

But I do remember that scent and I could tell you I went through a lot of those, not a lot, maybe like three or four Vanderhagen soap soap dishes, the old ones back in the day. But this is a big deal, this the first one in a very long time for me, and it was a sense of accomplishment when I and then I gave the container to my little guy who is learning how to open jars and stuff now. So it was really good kind of good timing on that. So he has that now it's probably in his toy box or something. Who knows where it is.

But yeah, it's definitely a sight to see. It's something to remember and I'm sure all of you guys, when you do the same thing, you take a picture of it because it doesn't happen like often now. The question is: how many shares did I get out of it? I got to say I used the soap a lot, probably about a few years ago when I first came out. I used it quite often and I got to say I got a probably over 60 to 70 shapes easily on this puck. Now a few things that will alter that. If you're face later, you're going to use more soap than a guy that uses a lather that scoops it now. If you say now, if you load directly on the puck, I do that you're going to use up more soap. If you bloom your soap, which I'd like to do too, you're going to use more soap and you know there's nothing wrong with that, because that's what this is all about: using soap.

But if you're one of those guys that has like a little spoon, like a little ice cream sample spoon or or or a regular spoon, and you like to scoop out a piece of it and throw it in a bowl in the bowl, lather your soap will last. Maybe you might get 60, 70 shaves when you're doing face lathering, you'll get like 90. If you do it that way, because you're not, you're not getting the soap wet, you're not getting the soap. The soap won't start to melt a little bit. It won't you, it won't it won't like disintegrate faster right it won't it won't melt and you send-up your using less because our control and more control. Now for me I love to lather. I love the leather heavily on myself.

So what I usually do is I bloom the soap. Yes, I do bloom, then take you know, just load my brush with it and then I put in a bowl or my scuttle. I have a big scuttle and I use that and that's how I basically you know bowl leather, my stuff, and that's how I have lately and I use a lot of soap and I probably go through them faster. So I would say now, if I'm shaving like that, I might get 40 to maybe 40 to 50 shaves out of a soap. If I'm not doing like that, if I'm doing it like a regular brush later, probably 60, and then I would say better than that you can bob, get 80 if you're if you're doin the scoop method. So that's just what I saw on that and a lot of people were asking me that on facebook, like oh how many have do you think it was? And I said, you know I'm thinking about.

I really don't know, because you know I've had the soap for several years, so it's hard to know. It's hard to determine how many I used. But I could definitely say vouch for at least 60, I'd say, because I used it a lot. I used it primarily for like at least three weeks. I know that for a fact and it was still pretty full and the after shave I still have a little bit left. So that's funny how that works. Usually I have extra aftershave after I used up the soap.

So now that is my cologn for the week, until it's gone and then I'm going to go to another set and I'm going to start using my stuff up, mainly because I just got too much stuff, guys, I really do and I just want to be able to enjoy you now. Ten to 15, maybe 20 soaps at a time, 20 razors, instead of having such a collection that I can't even touch half of it in a year. You know. So it's a little bit that's for another show, but that's kind of what I've been doing and and well, it's definitely an accomplishment and it's got some happiness and sadness too all at once. But yes, I did really use up a whole soap, so spring, clean away, give away, guys all right. So if you look at the pictures, there's two pictures there already package these up and are ready to go.

So as soon as somebody wins, I'm going to be able to send it out. But guys, I have a lot of stuff in wet shaving and I've been very fortunate to be able to have, you know, a decent collection and be able to use it. But here's the problem. I can't use this stuff anymore and it's going to end up going to waste, and that's something that I really don't want to do. So I'm going to start really. I'm going to do this here and there. I'm going to start doing some give way and just start letting some of the stuff go and, you know, make room for new stuff because honestly I was looking at my collection. I got a whole boxful of seasons and I have a whole, but my whole cabin is full of regular stuff and it's like I can't justify buying more stuff just to have it sit there and have this collection get massively bigger and then have it start going bad. I had a couple of soaps, oil out.

They start getting oily and stuff and I had to throw em out because I didn't use them for like five years. So this is something I'm going to do. This is a small set up. So the first riffle, not ruffle, the first give, is going to have a little sample set of art of shaving products like the pre shave, the cream and everything. It's got a shaving stand from West Coast shaving that can hold two brushes and two raisers. Art of shaving. Medium-size badger brush, the crown king Scuttle, the original one that came out a long time ago.

Yeah, it's great scuttle and I really love it. I love the logo being in the front. 100 blades from Rockwell and then a double-edged safety razor from Los Angeles have company, which is actually what they based off the bone. This was the one that they got the inspiration from the article that I wrote several several years ago. So that's one of the raisers used they got the the inspiration from, so that is available. The next one is a King Gillette razor with Vanderhagen soap, Vanderhagen mug, a vintage bad badger brush with a black badger knot and then some Gilet blades and a cover for the safety razor, leather safety razor, cover for travel and then brush stand, a little clear brush, and so these two raffles giveaways are set up, ready to go.

So guys I'm looking for is just I really would like to see some really nice wet shaving stories or reason why you would need it or or if you want to give it away to somebody or something like that. I really would like to give you know, somebody, to give us some good content for the podcast as well. So if you have something nice you want to say about the podcasts or what shaving in general have a great story. Now feel free to send it to me and I will and I will pick the winners after on the within the next two weeks and I will send this to you wherever you are in the continental US. I'm sorry, international guys, it's just too hard with you after shaves and stuff and it's it's really expensive to send it out and just the risk and all that. I'm just not not something unwilling to do at this point at this moment, but there will. We might have something international coming up in the near future. All right guys, and in conclusion this week we have the new Supply Raiser. You know if you guys are are familiar with supply. They were on the show. Shark Tank, believe it or not, a few years ago. I actually really love that show and I watched this episode quite often because I actually I feel kind of close to it because you know it's it's Wed shaving guys. I mean, come on, it's us.

You know it's everybody listening to this podcast that it was one of us that made it to TV basically, and even though it's a bigger vendor, mass-produced stuff, they're still part of the team. You know part of the group. So it was really a big deal watching that. Sorry about that, take something. I think I had a little bit of a technical issue on the laptop a few seconds ago, but I do apologize, also looking at this supply raiser, you know the original one is actually pretty, pretty nice. It's very well built, but this new one has some different features to it now it's a razor, an injector style raiser.

You guys, you guys, now that right, you know we've all watchers here, so we know what an injector razor is by now. If you don't you know it's one of those raisers, but you can inject the blade right into it. That's what the style is and it has like this new system which is called it's it's called the Nick stop technology, which is basically saying that 75% less chances of getting a nick and less aggression but still with a clean shave. So I was really impressed when I heard that. So that's basically like the injector point injector supply. Excuse me, like it's very similar to the 2.1 the last rays were they came out. I actually have that one and I think it's really nice. It is in my rotation but it looks like a little bit more guess, milder, but it's supposedly more efficient.

And looking at the reviews I read Amantis article. He gave a really decent review, said he tried some of the prototypes and the actual final raiser was much better than the prototype. So that's great to see that they actually listen to the feedback from the team, from the from the team. So it sound like my work from the customers. Just listen to the feedback and we're able to fix it. But I think it was all in all it's more of a sensitive like. Like, like he says, you had a classic style. So it's little bit one, probably on the lighter side, with aggression but still very efficient, really interested to see what this razor does. It is on preorder. It's got like a little. One of the other supply designs that they change is. They've made it like an open come or like a comb type guard instead of the regular solid guard. So yeah, it does look like it's going to be a little bit lighter, a little bit less aggressive. Milder razor with the, with the, the blade guard, fins and the and the actual geometry of the blade were the gap and everything like that. The exposure looks like it's a little bit muted, but this razor will be on preorder, available for Peter on the 17th.

All right, everyone, welcome back to the podcast, as they say, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. That's right. Spring is right around the corner. So this is the final week technically of winter. And I know a lot of places out there are feeling very much like winter right now.

So it's time to use up those winter scents, all those cold scents and time to get ready for the spring. So if you've got that rotation like I do the winter stuff, I get my last little kick with them right now this week, and then I go right to the spring scent stuff with, you know, damp wood or soil, all those type of scents with new or fresh floral arrangements as well, you know, just just to really kick off the spring season.

And, you know, before we get into the show notes, that's what I really love about wet shavings. All the seasonal stuff that's out there. You know, you have some really good seasonal stuff. You know, we have St. Patrick's Day coming up this week, and there's so many Irish like tweed or Irish spring type scents out there from of vendors and artisans.

You know, it's very hard not to to get hooked on that kind of stuff, right? So I mean, it's great as you can buy a soap and an aftershave and will last you for a couple of years. So example, I have my seasonal stuff and I keep it year after year and it's still really holds up. I mean, probably two or three years, it might be the max for, you know, for the soap scent, but the aftershave is the last, you know, the soap performance still stays scent. might dissipate a little bit, but the aftershave, so I really look forward to actually using it properly, like during the time of the year when you're supposed to.

So like, I have all my fall scents. I put them into the back of the cabinet, all organized and then I have my spring scents and then I have my, you know, all my winter and summer stuff as well. And I just like to kind of use them in a rotation.

So I really look forward to putting them to the side for a few months and then revisiting them, you know, when they're when the proper season is here. So I don't know if that's just me. I know there's a few other wet shavers that do that as well. I kind of keep the same rotation when it comes to that, and I love I love seasonal stuff. So looking forward to the start of spring after, you know, I know a lot of people out there have been having a rough winter. I know right now it just we got a little bit of a cold snap down here in South Florida. So looking forward to enjoying this cold snap because usually around this time of the year, it's the last one or two more left. And then that's it.

Now we go right into the heat. So actually, yeah, so yeah. So we're looking forward to to enjoying some of that cold weather right now and then probably not seeing it again for a while.

But anyway, regardless of the weather today on the show, we discovered some wet shaving products available at gas stations. That's right. A couple of viewers and listeners in the wet shaving world have been reporting to see these out in the wild here and some wet in some gas stations here or there. I think there's a couple of larger gas station convenience stores that have it. They have a little wet shaving set up. I'll tell you about my thought on the products and even have a really cool picture out there for you guys in the show notes.

If you're very if you're familiar with wet shaving or if you've ever been to the Manhattan area of New York Pasteurs pharmacy has been the wet shaving mecca for brick and mortar shops all over the world. And now you can get there a lot of their exclusive stuff on online from their shop, so their online shop has been expanded. Talk a little bit about that, about that place there and what that does to the what shaving community.

A little salute to Ukrainian products. There are a ton of Ukrainian products out there. I wasn't really honestly didn't really know much about them until I started doing some research. So we want to salute the Ukrainian products out there.

And another chevette that's built like a straight razor that got my interest made in Sweden, the $2 chevette. Really, it's called the Essence Razor really got my eye, my attention, and that's really one of those Chevette style razors that actually look like it might actually work. I'm not a big Chevette fan myself, but this one might really feel like a straight razor. And from the reviews I saw very positive. I'll talk a little bit about that razor as well. All right, guys. So without further ado, let's get on with the show.

So talking about what shaving products at gas stations? So if you take a look in the show notes and scroll down, you can definitely see there's a couple of displays here with some wet shaving products. You got a strap, some straight razors by union and a couple of other products, a kit safety razor brush.

And you know, just when you thought getting gas was going to be a bad thing with the increased price right in the last couple of weeks, we've seen a huge jump in gas in the last few weeks and last year or so. Now there's a reason to go to the gas station and to be and have a little bit of time to yourself and take it in right after you fill up to go, take a look and spend some more money if you want.

Now you need straight razors and stuff. Our guys are going to be completely honest with you. I mean, I think it's great that they're there, but they're they're junk. All right. I'm going to be honest, there are made in Pakistan. I have tried one of the Union razors. I saw one at a barbershop one time and I bought one just to see if I can get it to shave and it I could not. I honed it and honed it. I went on a I actually went on on a Norton 220 grit to start off to set the bevel on it. And then I went up to progression. I went all the way up to my my actually my Etcher , a dark blue horn, which is what I finish everything on. I did the cardinal. I did everything like that when I was honing this razor and I could not get it to shave our hair. I'm sorry, I tried and it is. One hundred is a stainless steel razor. The on and everything. Just it's just I couldn't get it to shave. And those drops are no good either.

But. I'm sure somebody out there can get them to shave just not me, I guess my skill sets, not there yet. And, you know, just looking at great packaging, great to see our good is just take a look and maybe just, you know, kill some time. But I don't know if I'd recommend buying the straight razor, the strap, maybe the safety razor looks like a well, she I don't think you can go wrong with the safety razor. I think that would be fine.

And, you know, I don't know about the blades either. Or the brushes, probably OK, but I would stay away from a straight razor, but it's really cool to see this at a brick and mortar convenience store, right? And just just really cool to see it. So when you just, you know, just when you thought, did you seen everything you know, a couple of listeners went and they said, Hey, I just saw this at a gas station. I couldn't believe it. I didn't buy anything. But, you know, I got a couple of emails. I actually got two emails this week asking, Are they good?

And when I saw the Union name, I'm like, Oh, no, no, these are not good, so don't buy the straight razor. It's not worth it. I'd much rather buy a vintage razor that needed to be honed or something like that and send it out to be honed, to try it yourself. Because the the razor, these just I mean, personally, it just didn't work for me. I couldn't get them to work. And I don't think a strop like that with inferior leather is going to be very good at probably do more harm than than good when stropping it. But you know, it's there and I'm sure somebody can get it to work.

And if you have, you know, feel free to email me, but really interesting seeing that in a store and really cool. As you can see, there's like a little glass case with the stand and everything like that. Remember, you can't go wrong with a stand or bowl, right? You can't. Doesn't matter where that's made. You can get something really nice there if you want that set and just try it out. So if you guys have tried the union razors and you've gone to work, hey, let me know. Give me some advice there, because I can't. I can't seem to do it.

So Pasteurs, guys, a little bit of history Pasteurs for the newer listeners out there. Now I've talked about past tours many times in this podcast and over the last five or six years now that we've been known to us. Excuse me doing this pastors, is they as a pharmacy in New York? There's two locations. It's both in Manhattan. One is right. Several blocks away from the Empire State Building. So if you could see the Empire State Building, no, that past stores is right down the street. It's right on right by in between the Macy's and the actual building over there. So you can on 34th Street. A lot of fun to go visit.

And you will spend a lot of time in there and you probably going to meet a new friend or two while shopping. But for those of us who can't get the Pasteurs and, you know, during the pandemic, that was definitely a reason nobody's traveling. And, you know, traditionally Pasteurs was a brick and mortar only. There were no actual items that you could buy online. You couldn't see what they had online. You couldn't even see what was in stock without giving them a call or showing up. But now past stores has done a little bit of their homework, and they've gotten an online shop now. When they first started about a year ago, they only have like 10 or 15 items on there. Now they have hundreds. So I'm I'm thinking that this is something that they're going for for the future. And Leon and his team over there and past stores is really looking to supply the whole wet shaving world with his products. So that's really exciting.

And also to see that Pasteurs exclusive products are now available online. If you go on their little on their website, go to the exclusive products and you can get to the only where they're only there. So there are some artisans just making soaps for Pasteurs and you can go there and purchase it directly from them. Now, I will be honest, I think the website's really good, but I know if you get there, you're on your own, you're going to find something that's not on the website that you've been looking,

For example. I mean, I remember the first time I walked in, I've only been to pastors twice, right? And I've been there the first time I went in there. I was really, really getting into, you know, software and stuff. And I was like, Man, this is just this is like the showroom. This is like the Amazon showroom. Like when you go to buy a TV at Best Buy and you go, you go there and then you go purchase it on Amazon. Because at Best Buy, it used to be called the showroom for Amazon, right?

That was this Pasteurs. Was the wet shaving showroom, right? Every artisan, every name brand, you know, from from hardware to software to blades to straight razors to two brushes. I mean, they had more Simpson brushes than I've ever seen. Even stuff that wasn't even currently being produced and that was the best part. You go there and you're like, Oh, this artisan soap is sold out, and then there it is.

And the only other place that was as impressive as past stores was the Old Old Town shaving company, which was in Pasadena, California, which I was very fortunate to go to as well. And there it was a little bit of a bigger selection there, but they're gone now. They've retired and shut that place down. So they're really there's just pet stores now.

And it's unfortunately, it's on both sides of the country. So you have one in California, one in New York, but they are very both stores were very Pasteurs are still very impressive. So just to be able to see their stuff online now, you too, you can go and actually purchase stuff from the wet shaving Mecca without having having to step foot in the store. Although I will recommend if you are in the New York area and you can get there and you are a wet shaving fanatic like the rest of us, get over there because you will go when you're shopping in that store, you will meet another wash area and you will see somebody that's going to have a great story.

I mean, when I was there, I met somebody from Dubai. I still have been in contact with that person up until about a year ago. I remember he was emailing me here and there. So it was great. I mean, it's just so much fun to see somebody, and you might even see a local, a local guy there as well that will tell you all the ropes and tell you, Hey, he's got this over there and all that. I mean, it is just a great place to be and give yourself at least an hour. If you're traveling with your family, tell your family, guys like, I'll do whatever you want. Give me an hour and hear about myself so I can take a look or bring your, you know, bring your children, your wife, your family with you as well.

Because it is, it is worth it. But just to be able to purchase it online is awesome. You know, Leon, thank you very much. If you're listening to this, that we really appreciate it because it is a blast to go to Pasteurs and now to be able to purchase it online. The exclusive product, at least it really is. It makes it that much more special. So thank you. Salute to Pasteurs because they are the wet shaving mecca and now available for anybody who wants to purchase it all over the world.

So Ukrainian products have been, of course, the talk of the town for the last few weeks and rightfully so, with everything going on in the Far East. It's been a rough month or so, to say the least. I don't want to get too much into it because I don't like to keep politics. Or you know that many current events involved in a podcast like to keep strictly shaving.

But, you know, with everything going on, it made me think about, are there, you know, wet shaving products made by you, by Ukraine in Ukraine that I didn't know about. And I really never thought about products made in that country up until recently because of the events. So I looked it up and I found that there are some really awesome products there.

You have Elly's Wonder Shop, which is a soap company. Artisan Shaving Soap, which is available at several online retailers, are really look good. Good reviews on that, too. The smart helix Apollo razor, which is a it's actually a straight up, excuse me, um, safety razor. Which I'm going to click on the link right now, I left the links for this in the show notes to show you guys can just click right on it. Take a look at it. And this is me. It's kind of like the Apollo. It's called the Apollo Series, and a lot of them are actually. Most of them are almost out of stock, if not are. By this time, I know what I saw now. Two or three of them are now out of stock off from this morning, but it comes with a nice stainless steel razor, some stands and stuff like that, too. So just taking a look at it, really unique design, beautiful razors as well. Beautiful presentation.

Unfortunately, I don't know if they go out of stock, if they're going to be able to fulfill the orders, but they are still taking pre-orders so you can order them on if they're out of stock or you can then actually pre-order it. Some submit a form and actually get it. So it's called the smart helix. And there's several, I'm sure sorry, the company's called smart helix and they're the Apollo line of razors.

Now, I don't think it's the same Apollo that was made in Germany back in the fifties and sixties that are still, you know, still, few of them are on the, you know, like the Apollo Micron and stuff. I'm not sure on that. I didn't really see that on the website, but you know, there are quite a few people using them and posting them on the shave of the day. You got few few guys actually on there right now.

Few videos on the website is also comes in a beautiful wooden display box. So I thought that was really cool, too. This is a real display piece with a stainless steel stand. Definitely. Take a look at it when you get a chance, it looks really cool and gives you a chance to support to Ukraine as well. Night also night blade guards with a little hole cross drilled holes in there. I haven't seen that too often, so it really did dissipate the lather a little bit and doesn't, might, may or may not get clogged. But it does look like it might be a little bit more difficult to clean, but otherwise really cool. The design great gripping on it and noodling on, and it was well, and I really want to try one of these myself.

Actually, I think the price points rights are starting about two hundred dollars, but they're handmade. I mean, they're seeing see machined and they're solid stainless steel.

And also there's another razor on here called the Lezzo razor, which I actually thought was I didn't know it was made in Ukraine. I thought it was somewhere else. I actually thought it was made like I thought it's in a different country on another European country, but the Lezzo razor is a cartridge razor that is really they make it for men and women.

And there's they're kind of disposable with all the blades are made in Ukraine and everything and also has a plastic handle, and they're they're disposable and they have a couple of other products and novelties on there as well. You could take a look at most mainly for women and men and all of it being disposable. Two blade cartridges.

So another great product to take a look at. I've never seen that before up until just really looking and looking at up and researching it, but I got to say that smart helix polymers are really looks solid. I mean, that looks like some cool stuff, and I wish I knew about that sooner because I probably would have picked one of those up back in the day or or saved up for one of them.

Because the design, the the actual the blade guard on it really looks cool. So it's something that really got my attention. And and Well, see for yourself. I love it again. I love the links in the show notes, so you can take a look at it at your Sephora and let me know what your thoughts are if you own one to send me an email because I'd love to hear more about it. I've never seen one in person. I've tried it, so it sounds really, really cool.

All right, and the todlas razor, this is another another really different razor that I saw just looking up stuff, you know, recently. This is a chevette. But it's commander of a completely stainless steel, so feels like a straight razor when you pick it up now looks like a artists club. Kind of like a custom mysteries of the Tang is really long on it, and the detail is actually really like sharp and slick and the razor itself. The scales are definitely, definitely odd to look and might be a little bit difficult.

Looks more like a custom that you would buy from, like, you know, Charlie Lewis or somebody like that. And these razors are just really impressive, a lot of people even giving them some good reviews. And one thing it can take a double edged blade snapped in half or an artist's club style blade. So there's a ability to take all of those type of blades when you use this razor. And this is actually 100 percent made in Switzerland, so this is a Swiss laser.

Again, you can get it here in the United States direct from the website. I didn't see any other retailer selling it, but there might be some out there. I didn't really look too hard, but from what I saw, it's just direct from the website comes in beautiful packaging, very well balanced from what I've been reading other reviews online. And it's one of those shavettes that, yeah, it's I think about 250 to 300 dollars for one of them. But I mean this, it's a high quality shavette . It's not a cheap one that you can get at the barber shop or barbershop supply store that you would do. You know, the barbers, you just just to shave. So I mean, again, with Chevette, I'm very hesitant. I'm one. I cut myself very badly on one one time. I don't use them myself. But you know this feather artist club razors and this one too. I hear nothing but rave reviews, so maybe one day I'll try it. But for right now, I'll stick to the conventional fixed blade razors.

But yeah, really interesting on this one. Take a look at again shownotes. I'll do a quick Google search. You can see some reviews on it as well. So if you don't want to take my word for it, but it really looks like an interesting wave of the future they're actually advertising, is it being a the only razor of its kind of that design to where it's like a straight razor with a Chevette style, but it's not. It's the first ever straight razor they're saying with disposable blades, so they're considering it a straight razor instead of a chevette.

All right, guys, well, that concludes all the notes for this week, you know, it's been a little bit of a slow week lately in the wet shaving world was stuff. I mean, and usually it does mean a lot going on in the world right now. So I know a lot of people are slowing down on production and stuff.

Also, with the cost of goods and all that and other shipping issues, you know, I've been hearing a lot of vendors just being behind a little bit, but also been hearing a lot of great things too. Like I saw a couple of great announcements. Barrister And Mann had one finished in. Phoenix Artisan accoutrements are still on top. There's still like really coming out with new releases and stuff. They haven't really missed a beat. You know, had that meet up a few weeks ago back in Phoenix with Rex and pour himself or, you know, Razor Emporium r, I'm sorry. And they were just they were just like, really all over it. So I mean, I think to watch him world's coming back to normal. I did buy the Passiflora from Barrister And Mann and, to be honest, delivered for a set with a soap and aftershave was 50 bucks. So I mean, honestly, guys, it is going up in price.

But you know, the soap is going to last. It's going to last a very long time, you know, when you get a good set, so you support new artisans, you know, have a good, you know, shave of the day for St. Patrick's Day. Make sure it's green. Enjoy this stuff, guys, because it's so much fun having you know a little bit of time to yourself every day to do what shaving, especially with everything going on from Colvin now to the stuff going on in the East, it's like, Man, we can't just get a break, you know?

So, but there is a break for us and it's stirring our morning shave. So think about that next time you pick up your razor and always just remember to have some fun when you're doing it, because that's what it's all about. It's a lot of fun. Even though I grow a little, I grew up a little partial beard myself, still shaving my neck and, you know, trimming myself up, so I'm still using my stuff. I probably need to take off this beard so I can enjoy more, right? So but now I'm enjoying it, having never had a beard before, as you guys know and keeping it, you know? Yeah, about number three on the adjustment. So it's kind of short for my works. I look good. I enjoy, you know, just having a good time with the journey. All right, everyone, welcome back to the podcast, and I have to admit I am late yet again. On Sunday of last week when I usually record the podcast. I mistakenly had a problem with, my hard drive, my my passport, like a little external hard drive I use for the podcasts and everything has everything on it. And I dropped it and didn't realize that it was a problem went online tried to troubleshoot it and everything like that. And just, well, I'm not the best in the world of that kind of stuff. Found out that I broke it and it was going to cost, well, a few hundred dollars, I think, like five or seven hundred dollars to get it repaired. So I said, OK, whatever, I don't really have that much stuff on it, so I know most of it was backed up. So I'm very fortunate there. So I had to go redownload everything, buy another one and get all that going. But it was the troubleshooting part that took forever because I went in, bought a cable. I went online trying to see if it was wrong, and it turns out that it was just I dropped it actually. While I was moving my stuff to record the podcast, I dropped it on the ground and that's the end of that.

So well, we're back to normal, got everything back, went through a lot of stuff to try to fix it. I'm not going to lie. I'm not like I said, I'm not a computer guru or anything like that. But I ended up reinstalling windows on my laptop. I got a cable for it. I went through a lot of stuff. So sorry about all that being late a few days late, but it's still got some good content going here for what shaving world this week. A few things that happened was one. Now I know I mentioned previously about releases, but this one really got me going and I bought it and I went in on it. Passaflor from Barristan man has been rereleased, is out until the end of March, so I went ahead and purchased that. I'll tell you a little bit about my thoughts, them and what I did with that, with that soap and aftershave this week. How much fun I had with it, actually.

Mongoose love. That's right. I have been using my mongoose razors for a while, have put them down there, were actually collecting dust on the stand, decided to pick them up. I had blades for and everything like that, so I decided to start using that and a little bit of my thoughts and how much I actually forgot how good of a razor the mongoose is.

The personna new angle 70 or a.k.a. bbs0 got some really good information on that razor. We featured it a few times, a few as being a really awesome vintage. Razor actually got some pictures of some of one within the original packaging and found out the name of it. So we actually know what it is now. A little bit more information, and I'll share that with you as well.

And the focus R50 single edge, straight single edge razor, something that I just noticed recently and thought it was really cool to take a look at actually believe it's made in Italy and 100 percent stainless steel. So we'll talk a little bit about that as well and a few other things here and there regarding what shaving and oh, there's a big meet up that happened over the weekend in Arizona, one of the first meet us we've had since the pandemic started. So great to see. Everybody had a great time there. I really wanted to go. I just could not make it to that one. If I could have, I would have been there because that's one that I really wanted to see.

All right, guys. So without further ado, let's get on with the show. So before I get into the actual release, the passive floor release, I did want to talk about that meet up that happened. I mean, one, this is a big deal for the what shaving community and for the whole world, you know, with with the COVID cases coming down and a lot of other things are happening. It's been it's been getting better to travel and a little bit safer. And I think people are just more open to it now. And to see that they had an actual meet up in Arizona at Razor Emporium, that was really something special to go, to see that to, to see all of the, you know, all those booths and stuff like that. And I have no affiliation with the company, but I am always interested in in how things work and how they fix things and have all those machines and stuff. So it's been a great tour. I mean, I really wish I could have gone. Maybe I'll go to the next one if I can, but a really cool if you got to see that and how they actually restore razors, build new razors and all that stuff. I mean, the company has gone from one person basically fixing Gillette razors in his garage to now real, you know, an actual company and warehouse and stuff. So a really cool to see that and I would have loved to have been there. This is a great thing to see in the wet shaving community. We were going to actually see more meet ups, which is something that I'm looking forward to, to going to and possibly seeing everybody, all of you guys again haven't seen anybody. And so in almost over two years now, I haven't seen any what shavers in over two years have been on meet up, having met up with anybody. So basically, it's either me online or talking through this podcast and then basically purchasing things here and there and using my stuff, my collection. That's really the involvement I've had with others within the shaving community. So looking forward to everybody getting back together and hopefully getting to go to a meet up here and seeing everybody again just to talk and. Person about shaving, it feels like been forever and really has been, so I'm looking forward to that, guys.

So the passaflora release now we've talked about passaflora as being probably one of the most unobtainable or most desirable collectible soaps out there. The original passaflora was it was a collaboration between barrister, man and the club or the shave shop by. Well, anyway, long, long story short, because we've talked about it so many times, I don't want to be repetitious here. You had two issues with with two guys working together on that didn't work out. There was limited edition, I believe, of only a few dozen soaps, maybe 30 or 40, 60 soaps or whatever like that of passaflora, which went out. Awesome passion for Lucent. There have been some other ones that have come across from Barris. Man have been similar to it, but nothing with the same namepassaflora. So passaflora was one of those soaps that was unobtainable. It's probably one of the again one of the most desirable soaps to get. I know some guys are paying up $300 for a puck of this, and this is about four or five years now that this has happened. So I guess these soaps are out there now. I haven't seen anything for sale for a long time, but now passaflora is now released by barrister man. When I first saw the email from them on their email list, I got really excited and I just jumped in. I bought the soap in the aftershave because originally the original passaflora did not have an aftershave and I can tell you from smelling both this was really close, if not the same thing I'd say. It's very, very close. I don't know if I could tell you a difference between the two, but a very, very close, in my opinion. I know other guys are going to say something else, but if you're looking for that unobtainable soap, this is probably the one to get. This is one of the releases that I was. I was really didn't even think twice about pulling the trigger on. Right? I mean, I love good quality shave soap, and I really love stuff from from closer from smaller vendors and stuff like that. It's just it's awesome, but this one was really exciting, so I'm really happy to see it and using it now. And honestly, I mean, trusted being in performance. If you guys have used it before, you know, you know, that's good stuff. And the scent is great. You know, my scent is coming back. I'm not 100 percent yet from having COVID back in August, believe it or not, but within the last month or so, I've been getting my my smell back here and there, and I've been starting to be in small things again. I could tell you that I could start to smell, and I could definitely tell you that this is very close because I actually did side by side with a puck of passaflora from from. I actually have a little sample of it, and it smelled pretty much similar to the same. Again, my smell is not 100 percent, but to me, the performance is also very, very good. So I mean, I can't complain here with that. But to me, it's very, very close. I mean, honestly, very close from what I can. Again, my scent , probably about 75, 80 percent back. So really close. But if you guys know if you have them both side by side, let me know your thoughts because I haven't seen too much online about it yet. It is going to be made until the end of March. So if you want to jump on it, I would do that pretty soon. And I think for a set delivered, I just got the set was like $50 USD, which is a little bit on the pricier side. Both again, we talked about prices and stuff, but you know, you get a whole year out of it if that's the only thing you use. I mean, it's a it's a good, it's a good quality soap and really fun release. I'm really happy to have that.

Mongoose love. That's right, guys, I have been using my mongoose. I actually have two Mongoose razors and I've been, you know, I was looking at it, my shave den the other day and I was just like, You know, I need some to try something different, get a little bored, you know, with what I'm doing here. I was using a rotation of some double edges with some straight razors, and I just picked up the mongoose, blew the dust off and started using and how great of a razor was, you know, I really do miss this, this razor company. You know, I was able to meet the one of the facilitators of this company. But his name is Bruce Weber about, I think it was about five or six years ago. Actually, the razor company itself is based out of Boca Raton, Florida, and I live in Delray Beach, which is one town over very close. And and I was able to go and visit him and talk. We had lunch together and we talked about he actually was very, very, very kind to gift me one of the stainless steel mongooses that he let me try out of his own personal collection, which I got to use and stuff. And that's really awesome. But I also have the one of the blue aluminum ones, which is a limited edition which I use on a daily basis. I got in a trade and I used it for a daily basis, sorry for about six or seven months or so. And then I kind of put it away and you know, you know how it is when you have a decent sized collection or even, you know, a rotation of about seven or eight razors, sometimes you get a little particular, you know, I do like when I'm using double edges. I do love to use, you know, I do use my BBC One quite often. I use a couple of other razors here, and I even like to use some of the old Gillette's. I do like the this morning. I actually shave with a double ring, you know, my my double ring just because it was there. I'm like, You know what needs to get used? It's 100 years old. Yeah, one hundred and fifteen years old. Yeah, you know what? You need to get used every now and then. It's still razor and it gave a great shave. I mean, it actually really does. Well, it's a little aggressive, but it's really nice. So I got I forgot how great the Mongoose razors are, and then I went to look to see if any, if there was, you know, still being made. And they're not, you know? And I haven't contacted Bursty, the owner yet, but I have a feeling it was just like a side. It was a side job. And, you know, they sold about, I think about fifteen hundred or 2000 razors, maybe a little bit more. So there's still quite a few of them out there. But if you have a mongoose show some mongoose love, try it out. If it's collecting dust, pick it up. Get it going. Because these razors used to be like the thing back there was about 2014 2015, when they were just trading for like thousands of dollars. You know, nobody can get enough of them, and they were kind of forgotten. And now you could probably get one for a song right now. So check out the mongooses if you haven't try one out. If you have one, give it some love. But yeah, I had a really good week with it, with both of them that I have, I got to do a little rotation and a lot of fun using them, so definitely going to keep that in the rotation. So it usually goes when I before I do the podcast, about three days before I come out of the podcast, I start researching like, I'll start. I'll be honest, I'm pretty active on looking stuff up, not as active as participating in forums and stuff in groups. I'm not really a very active participant. But I do read a lot and look a lot, and I start searching. So I go on Facebook and I go on, you know, all the major forums just looking at, see what people are talking about and seeing what's going on, and then I'll researcher myself to get some content.

So I was just searching around on eBay and I found the persona BBS Zero, which is a razor that I love, which is a vintage razor made by persona. It's an English razor, and it was really it's just a basic edge like kind of similar to the BBS One. I mean, from from Wolfman. Very similar to that. Actually, the parts are all interchangeable with that and also with the Gillette Tech. And I shaved with one and I loved it and I knew a guy that had one and he put it up for auction. So I bought basically all the spots in the auction. It was, I think I paid maybe a little bit over one hundred dollars for it, and it's it's really a staple razor. So I never knew what the real name was for this thing, and I did a lot of research on it. And finally, just recently, this last week, I found the Persona New Angle 70 in a package and this is that razor the BBS Zero package. And I guess the name of it was the Persona 70 new angle or New Angle 70. So looking at, I share the pictures with you. I did some snips on it to show you actually how what the packaging set on, and this is one that's new in the package on eBay. So if you don't, if it's still available, guys buy this. I mean, I'm telling you if you're looking for a vintage razor that's going to shave great, this is the one to get. This is an awesome razor now. The quality's not 100 percent. I mean, there is the handles aluminum. Everything else is a plated brass, I believe, and I think the top cap is is like galvanized steel. To me, it's not the greatest thing in the world. Like, quality wise. I mean, honestly, mine is kind of beat. But looking at this, if I didn't already have on, I would already bought this, but I can't open it out of the package. I mean, that's just something that I can't can't do. So if I bought it, it would be it would stay in like, like ever like some of the guys say it needs to belong in a museum. I think Matt Pisarski says that it does need to belong in a museum. This is a razor. But if you want one brand new, that's going to be like, you know, brand new, this is the one to get. You don't have to restore it or anything like that. So this is really exciting, guys. And I'm just like in awe of it, just watching it and seeing and it's something that I've always wanted to to know more about. I did so much research on this when I was doing some articles. I never could find anything. And just now, today just pop to me. So really unbelievable on that. So check out the pictures and if you haven't bought one yet, are looking for one. I would see that as of what I'm doing this podcast, it was still available. Jump on it because this is a razor you're going to want and you're going to regret not having because it is really awesome.

So again, guys, I was just searching and I found the Focus R50 single edge razor. And this is a razor that really it's it's something that's called the dynamic. And this is it's it takes a double edged blade snapped in half. So we've seen razors doing that. You know, nothing crazy in that aspect, but from the reviews and see too much on it. But I did see some good stuff a little bit on this razor, very mild. They also do a a slant, the double edge of razor slant, which was really interesting. I think the raises about one hundred and fifty dollars solid. It's a hundred percent stainless steel and made in Italy. So this is something you definitely want to check out. And and if you haven't yet, if you're looking for like a single edge or you're looking to just try a single edge, this might be one this two to, you know, at least put on the radar. It definitely looks. Just looking at the picture on, it's got like a little handle where you put your finger on. It looks kind of like, actually, it doesn't really list the handle itself. Looks like it would be almost held like a straight razor when using it. But when I looked at some of the some of the reviews, it's just to put your thumb on to rest. It really does look nice. I looked at the website, read a little bit about the company. They do have other products as well that the slant looks pretty interesting because I'm always interested in something different. And the design on this razor really is something I haven't seen before. So worth a shot if you try to, you know, let me know and see because I might be picking one of these up. Some really interesting razor, though really, really looks like fun to use, and I'm always looking for those new things.

So besides talking about a little bit what's on the show notes here, guys, I did want to go on to a little bit more on the wet shaving world side. You know, looking at the world with things going on, you know, we do have some some stuff going on and in overseas. If you're in the United States, you know, this may not be a, you know, this is going to affect really everybody all over the world what's happening in Russia and Ukraine and stuff. And just to keep everything cool with with wet shavers online, just be very, you know, a lot of people are talking, a lot of people are very, you know, emotional and that's OK because you never know what's going to. Happened and you never know what other people are going through. But one thing I did see in Facebook and I saw, excuse me, kind of really, really kind of turned me off a little bit to it, to this one particular group was people were just going, I'm going to throw out all my stuff and other people saying, you shouldn't and you should and all that. You know, guys, I think maybe that's kind of stuff like if you want to do whatever you want to do. You know, that's that's that's for it. I mean, I'm all for that. And I think, you know, it's nice, but be just be respectful to each other with the comments because this is pretty, pretty ugly content. I mean, this is a pretty ugly. And this is on a Facebook group, well known Facebook group. I won't put the name in there, but you guys, if you if you're listening or if you're part of that group, you know, there's a several thousand members and I was a little bit like a little turned off by that by seeing all these everybody bashing each other over whether they want to keep products or not. Well, all I got to say is whether or not you keep them or not, you know, just make sure that you hug your loved ones tight tonight. And for those of you being affected and anything over there, over overseas are over in the in the Far East, you know, I hope everything is is going to be OK. I definitely the thoughts and prayers are every night with my family here. We want to make sure you know that you know that we support you. And if there's anything we can do to help you, you know, or anything you know that you want to send me an email if you just want a kind word or something like that, or if there's anything else, you know, I just know that we're thinking about you out there and that hopefully everything will be OK soon. And for everybody else out there, just be mindful to each other's comments because this is what shaving guys. This is supposed to be fun. It's not supposed to be political, it's not supposed to be, you know, all that other stuff. It's about that we're all supposed to get to come together with this kind of thing. And that's what made this comment. This this this whole hobby so great. You know, we're wet shaving and stuff, just talking about shaving and nothing else, right? When I first got into this, you know, several years ago, it was like, Man, the group is, they're so strong here, like, they're so strong about what shaving they send you stuff. If you need help, you know, example. When I first started, I don't have any. I was in school. I was a later student. My story is long when I'm keep it short, but I ain't really have any spending money at the time and somebody was like, Hey, you know what? I'll send you? I got I want a little like a raffle and I got like a feather that one of the saves you're a feather persona are personal or personal raise or sorry. That was like the plastic feather. And I used it and I thought I was great. And you know, a lot of guys came together, and that's what really makes this community great. So let's keep it that way. You know, at least that's my my opinion and my thoughts on it. And for those of you that are being affected, you know, I really hope everything works out because I've it's been a rough couple of years and to see something like this happen now, it's just unfortunate for so many people. You know, COVID all this and that, we're just kind of getting out of the cove and now we're getting into something else like us as people. It's been a long ride. It's been it has been so nothing but positive thoughts out there, guys and girls listening and hoping for all the best. And remember, you know, there's always there's always a support group with what's shaving. That's something we all come together with. And let's continue because every time you shave, you can kind of take away or what I like to do is when I do, when I like to watch shaves, I kind of like, let everything else go and just think about that and think about, you know what? I'm using the scent and all that stuff and just having fun with it. And if you can't and you know, I fully understand there's always good times to just go online and just search or just talk about it, you know, it's really good.
