Ep 93---

Historian and author Paul Connolly joins Carlo for what turned into a proper local history lesson.

It starts with a ruin across the road from his national school in Mount Talbot, and a teacher named Sonny Cronin who had his pupils naming spring flowers in Latin and Irish decades before anyone used the word biodiversity. It goes on through sixteen years of senior hurling, and the void that opens when the matches stop.

Then there is the day that changed everything. Paul took a day off work, drove to Boyle, walked into King House and introduced himself to Tommy Egan. Three or four hours later he drove back to Galway with a whole book formed in his head.

In this conversation: the night Rockingham burned in 1957 and the local people who saved what furniture they could. Why King House is standing today and Moat Park is not. The Quakers of Frybrook who fed the starving from their own kitchen. Castle Island, the McDermotts, and the castle Yeats never built. Why the gate lodges survived when the mansions did not.

And a question worth sitting with. We are the most photographed generation who ever lived, and we may be the one that leaves the least behind.

Ep 92---

This week, Carlo chats with Nicola Wynne, who grew up on the Carrick Road and went on to live a life you would struggle to believe.

She spent five and a half years with the United Nations in former Yugoslavia during the war. She was also based in New York on September 11th 2001. She built a 20-year career in real estate in New Jersey. And when she lost her father and her American visa in the same year, she came home to Boyle for three years during COVID that she still calls some of the happiest and most healing of her life.

Nicola lives in Mallorca now, but this conversation is a love letter to Boyle and to what home really means.

Have a listen, and share it on to someone who would appreciate it.

Ep 91---

Carlo and Florence sit down with Vincent Beirne, originally from Plunkett Avenue in Boyle, now living in the west of Ireland, for a wide-ranging conversation about life, loss, healing and the path he has taken since losing his father.

Vincent talks about growing up in Boyle, his father's profound influence on his life, losing a property at 21 through adverse possession, the shamanic practice he trained in and now works with, his understanding of soul loss, the man he helped over a 22-year alcohol relapse, the election he stood in as an independent, and his vision for bringing a rambling house back to Boyle.

He also talks about the fire, the importance of looking within, and what he would put on a billboard in the town.

Ep 90---

Carlo and Florence sit down with Dolores Sheerin, a Termon woman with a life full of stories.

From working as a telephonist in Galway in the late 1970s, where she answered a bomb threat during the Troubles and climbed onto the roof of the telephone exchange to watch Pope John Paul II bless them from his helicopter, to raising three sons in Boyle, joining the Moylurg Writers Group and discovering she could write, and travelling to Bosnia in 1994 with 26 suitcases of aid during the war.

Dolores also shares memories of characters and corners of Boyle that have largely disappeared, her deep faith, and the poem she wrote for the Moylurg writers simply called Boyle. A warm, funny, moving and genuinely memorable conversation.

Ep 89---

Carlo sits down with David McGee, a young man from Boyle who has quietly built one of the most niche and impressive YouTube channels in Ireland.

Blue Star Line, his channel dedicated to historically accurate 3D ship animations, has over 127,000 subscribers and a single video with close to 7 million views.

David talks about growing up beside the boys school in Boyle, his grandfather Dick McGee's influence on his love of photography and storytelling, making short films on a Nintendo 3DS, his obsession with the Titanic since the age of four or five, and how a school musical called All Shook Up set him on the path to technical production.

He also covers commissions from Italian documentary companies, drone footage of the hot air balloons at Lough Key that went viral, working on the film "Ann" in Boyle, and what it takes to render a 20-minute animation that can take a month to produce.

A genuinely fascinating conversation about creativity, craft and a passion pursued quietly but brilliantly.

Carlo sits down with Mairead Cogan, the youngest of six children raised on a farm in the Curlew Mountains, who went on to play GAA, break her leg and ankle in 2019, discover a passion for coaching, and found her own fitness business, Supple Fitness.

But this episode is about more than fitness. Mairead also talks about two volunteer trips to Africa with Plant the Planet Games in partnership with Self Help Africa and Warriors for Humanity. A warm, honest and genuinely moving conversation about hard work, community, perspective, and what really matters in life.

Ep 87---

In towns like Boyle, a post office was never just a place to buy stamps or send parcels. It was where news arrived before phones ever rang, where pensions were collected with a handshake and a chat, and where generations crossed the same threshold week after week. The red brick building on Shop Street stood quietly at the centre of it all, watching the town change while somehow staying the same.

For decades, people stepped inside carrying letters, savings books, worries, and good news. Behind the counter for the past few decades stood a familiar face who saw Boyle through its busiest days and its quietest moments, through the shift from handwritten envelopes to digital screens, from queues at the counter to a changing world outside the door.

Today both Florence and I are sitting down with the last postmaster of the old Post Office, Paul Forde. This is a conversation about community, memory, and a place that meant far more than its walls ever suggested. Because when a post office leaves a building like that, it’s not just a relocation. It marks the end of an era in the life of the town.

You’re very welcome to the Voices of Boyle. This is episode 87 with Paul Forde.

Ep 86---

Maria Liddy's story begins in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, where her parents ran a restaurant in Dalkey while the family lived up in the mountains. When Maria was 8, they made the leap to Boyle, taking on the Lakeshore Restaurant at Lough Key Forest Park. It was only two and a half hours away, but it felt like a different world.

Growing up with 800 acres as your back garden turns out to be as magical as it sounds. Maria describes watching deer graze on the front lawn by lamplight on winter evenings, the mist over the water on September mornings, and the chaos of the ballooning championships when the whole park came alive. Her mother insisted she and her brother learn to swim at Doonshore so they could wander freely without anyone worrying. The whole family washed dishes, worked the shop, and waited tables as soon as they were old enough.

School life in Boyle left a deep mark. Maria arrived at Scoil Chriost Rí with a plaited Heidi hairstyle and the unusual surname Le Hiff, and was briefly assumed to be German. She threw herself into school musicals under Frank O'Mahony, who she later nominated for a Gay Byrne Person of the Year award, landing her first-ever radio interview in the process. She credits both Frank and Boyle itself for giving her a rounded foundation she drew on for years afterwards.

Her twenties were full of movement: social studies in Sligo IT, three months in New Zealand with her grandmother, two years working with adults with special needs in outer London, and then a return home prompted by her grandfather's death. Back in Ireland, she worked with young offenders through the Youth Action Project in Sligo, completed her degree, and eventually pursued a master's in criminology at Maynooth, with a thesis on the youth justice system and the experience of families within it.

The pivot came in 2012. On an empty stomach in a Dublin dental hospital waiting room, a penicillin reaction sent Maria into anaphylactic shock. She describes what happened in the minutes that followed as a near-death experience, a slide toward something warm and beautiful, before the adrenaline brought her back. It took a year for the message to land fully, but on the anniversary of that day she left her relationship, packed one suitcase, and walked out. Six weeks later she met her now-husband Arlo, a man she had briefly hidden from in a kitchen at sixteen because he was simply too much for her.

She and Arlo have one son, Ruan, who Maria says announced himself before he was conceived. She has also had two miscarriages, in 2020 and 2022, and speaks about them with the honesty and gentleness of someone who has done the work of acknowledging them fully. Those losses, combined with her training as a death doula and family constellations facilitator, led her to create the Lily and Max miscarriage care packages: locally sourced, biodegradable boxes designed to give families something tangible to hold during one of the hardest experiences a person can go through.

The episode ends with Maria talking about the hot air balloons returning to Boyle last September, chasing one all the way to Highwood, and feeling, as she put it, really, really lucky to have been brought to Boyle and to still be living here.

Ep 85---

David Cryan grew up on a farm in Cloonloo, in a household where after-school hours meant feeding cattle, mucking out sheds and drinking raw milk straight from the cow. He went to St. Mary's secondary school in Boyle, mitched exactly once and got caught, and remembers the morning assemblies with Father Lavender or Father Early before everyone headed off to class.

From there, the conversation moves through the Boyle of the late 1980s and early 1990s, a town David describes as a place that was genuinely buzzing. He talks about working behind the bar in Parkers nightclub as a 17-year-old, the nights when you could not get through the door of the Moylurg before half nine, the factions and the fighting that were somehow just part of the culture, and the busloads of people coming over from Carrick-on-Shannon because Boyle was simply the better night out.

Then, in 1992, everything changed. David was involved in an accident and left paralysed. He was 20 years old. In the years that followed, he faced the reality of his situation largely without professional support, which simply did not exist in the way it does today. Alcohol became a way of coping, and he is honest about how that played out over a long stretch of years, until the death of a close friend became the moment that changed his direction. He gave up drink, started counselling, and began to deal with things properly.

David also touches on his brief but enjoyable time in local politics, filling a vacant seat on behalf of a cousin who passed away. He talks about his electric drive-assist wheelchair, the freedom it has given him to get around, and the gaps that still exist in accessibility across the town. He ends with a clear message to younger listeners: you have one life, and you are better off living it as yourself.

Ep 84---

Florence sits down with Georgette, a Somerset-born creative who has been living just outside Boyle for the past ten years. Georgette grew up in the English countryside, left home at 17, worked in Egypt as a teenager, and spent years moving between cities before eventually landing in rural Wales and then Roscommon.

Now she works part time at Leitrim Design House and has recently launched Crack and Crackle, a small handmade business producing quality sauna hats from her home. The conversation covers her love of craft, why sewing is a life skill the next generation is being denied, the explosion of sauna culture in Ireland, and why she believes handmade will always beat mass produced.

A warm, honest and genuinely entertaining episode about creativity, community and following an idea all the way through.

Ep 83---

A lovely double episode this week as Carlo and Florence sit down with Colin, a Boyle native from Termon Road, and his partner Aethel, who grew up on a farm in Galway, spent ten years living across four American states, and eventually found her way to Boyle almost by accident.

Together they cover childhood memories of Boyle in the 1990s, from the Round Balls and Hares and Hounds to Ballinagare disco and the floodgates, Aethel's journey through Las Vegas, Utah, Alaska and California, Colin's bodybuilding competition in 2012 and what it actually takes to get on that stage, Lulu their Thai rescue dog, the return of the hot air balloons to Lough Key, and what both of them would put in a time capsule for Boyle. A warm, funny and wide-ranging conversation between two people who clearly love the town they call home.

Carlo sits down with Martha Higgins, a writer from Keash, Co. Sligo, who has just published her debut novel Hiding from the Heart. Martha grew up on a small farm in the 1960s, went to secondary school in Boyle, and has lived a wide and varied life since, including two years in South Africa during the transition from apartheid.

In this conversation she talks about farm life in Sligo, her vivid memories of Boyle as a market town, her writing journey and the discipline it demands, the story of her debut novel, and her next project: a historical fiction based on the life of Jimmy Gralton, the only Irish man ever deported by his own government. She also talks about walking the length of Ireland, five days in the Sierra Nevada, and her deep belief in the importance of spending time in nature. A thoughtful, wide-ranging and deeply personal conversation.

Ep 81---

Today’s guest is Dorothy Shannon and we talk about all things King House Tea Rooms.

Dorothy grew up between Ardcarne and Cootehall, and talks about her vivid memories of coming into Boyle as a child – the turkey market, the buzz of the town, and the shops that she loved to visit.

Travel opened her world up when she was younger, feeding her love of food, flavours and the joy of creating a variety of dishes from scratch. Catering and hospitality always felt natural to her, so when the chance to take over King House Tea Rooms came up nine years ago, she trusted her gut and grasped the opportunity with both hands.

Since then, Dorothy has turned the café into a place known for homemade food, local ingredients and a feeling of genuine welcome. For her, the tea rooms are about community as much as cooking – a space where people meet, chat and keep the heart of Boyle beating.

In this episode, she reflects on her journey to where she is today, the people that make her job so rewarding and her plans as the café heads towards its ten year anniversary.

On this episode of Voices of Boyle, Florence and myself chat with Anna Marie Jehorek. Anna shares her story of her deep connection to Boyle—despite being born and raised in the U.S.

Her family roots reach back to Croghan and she reflects on her fond memories of visiting Boyle since the 1980s, as well as the friendships and traditions that shaped her affection for the area.

It was a result of these visits that Boyle became the backdrop for her two novels.

From travel inspiration and pen pal letters with her grand uncle, to Irish dancing championships and her recent foray into podcasting, the conversation with Anna Marie is packed with stories of heritage, creativity, and the enduring magnetism of Boyle. We hope you enjoy the episode.

For episode 77 we have Sean Nicholson for a chat that’s heartfelt and full of laughs. Sean takes us back to his childhood at the foot of the Curlew Mountains, growing up in a house steeped in music, stories, and a fair bit of mischief.

From there, the conversation meanders through rambling houses, lively sessions, and unforgettable characters, before following Sean to London in the 1980s and 90s, where the Irish community and music scene brought both challenges and adventure.

Along the way, Sean talks about learning his first instruments, playing in bands, life abroad, and the characters you’d meet gigging in Irish pubs. We also hear about brushes with fame, lessons learned, and his later involvement in creative projects back home, including the ‘Oh No Somalia’ charity album.

It’s a lively trip through memory, music, and community....told with all the wit and warmth of one of Boyle’s own.

Enjoy!

It’s great to see such entrepreneurial spirit alive and well in Boyle — and even better when it’s coming from two people who are passionate about what they do. We wrap up the conversation with a few laughs and some great memories of growing up here.

Have a listen — this episode is a brilliant insight into two locals taking an idea from concept to reality.

Our guest this week is Nathan Haynes, a thoughtful and insightful young man who made Boyle his home just over a year ago. With a Master’s in Psychology, Nathan brings a fresh and compassionate perspective to some of the most pressing issues facing younger generations today.

In this episode, we explore the power of human connection, the importance of collective sense-making, and the emotional landscape young people must navigate in today’s world. Nathan works in residential care, supporting teenagers aged 16–18 who, for various reasons, don’t fit into the traditional foster care system.

This is a deep and thought-provoking conversation, and Nathan has a remarkable gift for breaking down complex ideas in a way that’s accessible, relatable, and full of heart. So, I hope you all enjoy the episode and enjoy the rest of your day.

In this episode, I sit down with Lucy Egan and Jane Suffin, two members of the newly formed committee - The Friends of Assylinn.

Their mission is simple yet so important: to restore Assylinn Cemetery into the peaceful, clean, and well-maintained resting place that the deceased—and their families—deserve. Jane and Lucy talk on behalf of the committee members and share the inspiration behind forming the group, the challenges they’ve faced getting it off the ground, and their vision for what Assylinn can become with the community's help.

You can support their efforts by donating to their GoFundMe:

gofund.me/3d1b3fa8

They’ll also be holding a church gate collection at St. Joseph’s Church next weekend, and have community clean-ups planned in the coming months. Every donation, share, or helping hand makes a difference.

In episode 67 of the Voices of Boyle podcast, I sit down with Dermot Beggan, a familiar face to many around town.

Dermot grew up in Smoterna, just outside Boyle, with Lough Key practically in his back garden! He shares his journey from leaving school to working his way up to becoming General Manager of Lough Key Forest Park, a place where he first worked many years ago. It’s a real full-circle story.

We chat about the current activities on offer at the park, the exciting developments planned for the future (there are some amazing plans in the pipeline!), and how he played a huge role in bringing the Balloon Championships back home to Lough Key.

For many of us, the memories of those crisp September mornings, watching the colourful balloons rise above the Boyle skyline, are something special. Now, with a week-long festival planned that includes two flights per day, there’s a real buzz about seeing the balloons fill the skies once again.

Lough Key is the perfect setting for the balloon championship to take place, and Dermot gives us all the details. Finally, we talk about the importance of Boyle town in Lough Key’s existence and how it’s the support from local people that will help the park to continue to thrive.

Enjoy the episode!

Welcome to episode 66 of the Voices of Boyle and this week I'm delighted to welcome Jack Fallon to the podcast.

At 95 years old, Jack is the oldest guest we’ve had on the podcast so far, and with that comes a wealth of experience and insight.

From his childhood in East Galway to making Boyle his home, Jack’s journey has been shaped by history, education, and a deep commitment to preserving local heritage. A dedicated teacher, he has taught across Ireland, Africa, and China, witnessing the evolution of education on a global scale. In this episode, Jack shares his reflections on life, learning, and the changing world around him.

It’s not every day we get to sit down with someone who has lived through nearly a century of history, and it’s truly a privilege to share Jack’s stories with you. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Episode 54 takes us on a trip down the Regan family lane with local photographer Mary Regan.

Mary’s not only known for her own work as a local photographer but also for being the beloved wife of the late Christy Regan, one of Boyle’s most renowned photographers, who captured the spirit and essence of our town for decades.

Together, Mary and Christy created a legacy that resonates with so many families in Boyle and beyond (most households locally have a photo that was taken by a Regan family member!).

Let Mary take you back to her early days growing up in Elphin as she talks about her memories at home with her parents and going to both primary and secondary school. Christy soon comes into focus in our conversation as Mary gives us a glimpse into their special moments of meeting, going on their first date and later getting married, moving to Boyle, opening the business and having a family. We’ll dive into her memories of working alongside Christy, their family’s involvement in continuing his legacy and Mary’s own career as a photographer for the Roscommon Herald.

We’re thankful to Mary for giving us a great insight into the life of her husband - the man behind the camera - whose work not only documented local life but also became a cherished part of countless family memories.

We finish up talking about the Regan family’s journey of compiling ‘Through Christy’s Lens’, a two-volume book filled with Christy's remarkable photographs, making it a true visual record of our local history.

Enjoy the chat with Mary as we reminisce, reflect, and honour her own work, the Regan family’s contribution to capturing local life with photos and, of course, the incredible life and work of her husband Christy.

You can purchase ‘Through Christy’s Lens’ on Enda’s website https://endaregan.com/collections/through-christy-lens.

You can also buy the books locally in McGees Jewellers, Kelly’s Londis and Una Bhan (in the grounds of King House).

Ep 28---

Should women have to sacrifice their careers for parenthood or to achieve physical and mental wellness?

This is the topic of conversation in today’s episode as I sit down with a good friend of mine, Alison Clarke.

Alison reveals how she conquered her own health and fertility struggles by making some major and minor changes in her lifestyle. We talk about some of these lifestyle changes and how they made a big difference in her own journey to eventually getting pregnant and becoming a mum for the first time.

DoTerra and the power of essential oils comes into focus as Alison tells us the difference between DoTerra’s products versus other brands of essential oils. We talk about the importance of education when it comes to using oils and why Alison created a holistic program called the Life Switch Co with the aim of empowering women to make positive changes in their own lifestyles.

The challenges women face in the workplace when dealing with fertility issues and the importance of hormonal health also comes up in conversation. This leads us onto the transformative workshops, support, and guidance provided by her new venture, Fembition, and how the program is designed to optimize fertility and manage stress in relation to work.

We finish on the power of community and support, and the profound connection between emotional and physical well-being.

We hope you're doing well and enjoying the latest episodes of the Voices of Boyle!

In our latest episode, we had the pleasure of hosting a special guest, Ciaran Sheerin, who shed light on the exciting developments taking place in Boyle town center. Ciaran is the current chairman of the Boyle Town Team.

Ciaran introduced us to the dedicated town team responsible for implementing the Boyle 2040 vision. This team consists of local individuals representing different areas in the town, working closely with the local government to bring about positive changes. Their focus? Revitalising the economic heartland and promoting town center living.

During our conversation with Ciaran, we learned that the Boyle 2040 vision is a detailed plan divided into three structures: the overarching 2040 vision, a 3-5 year plan called LECP (Local Economic and Community Plan), and a yearly plan referred to as the plan of works. This breakdown allows the team to tackle the implementation in practical, day-to-day efforts.

What sets Boyle apart is the availability of a guiding document that many other towns don't possess. The town team stresses the importance of working collectively towards achieving the vision outlined in this document. (This document is available to view in the resource section of this post). And to spread the word effectively, they have created a brochure that not only promotes the 2040 vision but also provides information about available grants for renovations. This brochure will be distributed widely, ensuring that both residents and visitors are aware of the exciting changes coming to Boyle.

/span>

As you can see, there are exciting developments happening in Boyle, and we're grateful to Ciaran Sheerin for sharing his insights and updates with us. Make sure to listen to the episode to get all the details and hear directly from the town team chairman about their vision and plans for the future.

Stay tuned for more thought-provoking conversations on Voices of Boyle, where we continue to explore the stories and initiatives that shape our town.

Welcome to episode 20. I'm joined by both Dermot & Paula Lahiff for the first duo on the podcast!

In 1985, the Lahiff family moved to Boyle and took over the Lakeshore restaurant in Rockingham. They remained there until 1995, becoming fully integrated into the local community and participating in various town organizations.

During their tenure, they played a significant role in marketing the forest park to attract tourists from all over the country. The foundation they laid during their time in the park has undoubtedly contributed to its major success in recent years.

The Lahiffs were not only business owners but also genuine and kind people who were committed to the success of Boyle. While I have my own fond personal memories of them from their time in Boyle, their impact on the town speaks for itself.

It's a great episode that highlights the Lahiff family's contributions to the town of Boyle and some of the lifelong friends they made.

Cian takes us through the journey of hearing his Cancer diagnosis, the surgeries and treatments that followed and we talk about his eventual news of getting the all clear. His account of those few years of his life is very open and there are some lessons in there that we can all take inspiration from. We finish up with Cian’s life today and how getting a tracheostomy tube in his neck was one of the hardest things he went through.

We then talk about his return to the pitch and his joy at getting to live out his dream of managing Boyle Seniors. Oh and it wouldn’t be a proper chat if we didn’t talk about last year’s mammoth journey to getting to the county final against Strokestown!

We hope you enjoy this episode and we thank Cian for being so open and honest about his journey.

Join us as Teresa takes us on a nostalgic journey to her childhood in Elphin Street. We discuss the family's travel business and its significance in the town and county during those times, when everything was done manually without the convenience of modern airlines like Ryanair. Teresa shares amusing anecdotes about her father and the good old days of the Old Fair Days.

Her exceptional attention to detail will make this an unforgettable experience, and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with Teresa and gain insight into her life growing up with her family in the heart of Boyle town in the 1960s and 1970s.

Ep 11---

www.voicesofboyle.com/marycretaro/

Today we chat with Mary Cretaro! We've been listening to Mary's great stories from times gone by for years so I'm delighted that we finally convinced her to come on air and chat with me.

Mary spent her early childhood growing up in Killaraght with her mum, dad, sisters (Monica, Pauline and Una) and brothers (Gerry and Vincent). She takes us back to those days and gives great details of attending the local national school and coming into Boyle for big events like the fairs and the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoils (which took place in 1960&1966).

She then takes us on a journey through her time in boarding school, moving to Dublin in her late teens/early 20's and then we get to her move to Boyle in 1976 when she opened the Little Chick with Loreto.

Mary definitely has a way with words as you'll hear when she talks about old Christmas traditions and later memories of working over the festive period in the Little Chick (we're all still longing for a curry chip!!)

We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane with Mary.. I'm sure it will spark some memories of the past in your own life.

Before we sign off on this post, Carlo and myself would like to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and New Year. Thanks for listening to the episodes during the year and thanks to the guests that have given up their time to chat to us. We have lots more planned for 2023!

Welcome to our latest episode, where we will be sharing our recent chat featuring a special guest from the town of Boyle: Tony Conboy.

Tony is a longtime resident of Boyle, arriving in 1972 to take up a teaching position in St. Mary's College.

In this episode, I had a great chat with Tony about his experiences growing up in Castlecoote, his memories, and his insights on life in Boyle.

Since coming to Boyle in the early 1970's,  Tony has been a prominent member of the community, serving as a teacher for 29 years as well as been involved in a number of different groups and organisations. He has also written a number of booklets on local history and about the history of Roscommon GAA.

We hope that you will join us for this fascinating conversation with a true Boyle local.

Welcome to Episode 6 of the Voices Of Boyle Podcast!

Today we're joined by Mr. Pat Murphy! Pat is originally from Dundalk in Co. Louth and he is, in his own words, a Boyle "blow in!" Pat has been living here in town for the past 5 years with his partner Geraldine.

Pat has been on a journey that not many people get to experience in life and it's this adventure that forms the bulk of our chat today.

We take things back to the year 1999 when Pat and his wife Olivia set sail on a 4 year circumnavigation of the world in their beloved sail boat. The trip ended up taking 9 years in total and the experiences the couple had are worthy of a movie!

We talk about;

  • The reasons for doing the trip

  • The logistics of planning

  • Swimming with crocodiles in the Panama Canal

  • Spending time with a tribal family during a 9 day storm

  • Travelling through Pirate Alley off the coast of Somolia

  • The highs and lows of being on a boat for such long periods of time

Welcome to Episode 4 of the Voices of Boyle podcast.

Today, I’m chatting with Melissa Doohan Beirne.

Having moved to Boyle when she was just eight years old, Melissa is a well-known name and face throughout the town.

We chat about Melissa’s love for running and how it has changed her life in so many ways. We talk about her involvement in Park Run and how her passion for it led her and a small group of people to take action and set up Boyle Athletic Club.

Boyle AC has gone from strength to strength since its foundation, and Melissa talks about the people that have been instrumental in that success.

We also talk about Darkness Into Light and how the foundation helped her get through a very dark time in her life.

I really enjoyed the chat with Melissa and I’d like to thank her for giving us her time. I’m sure little Alba will enjoy listening back to her mum in many years to come!
