Felt aready a bit like "Will this Work?" when I tried for the first time to include a DIY video using another service other than 3Speak itself. And you know what? It did NOT work.

Anyways, the solution is easy, though I dont like this solution. Post yet another post, now using 3Speak service itself.

Anyways, I had a great time at this clubevent last May 5th. Listening for the very first time a houseset by techno master Etapp Kyle. Interested in the story around him and this event? Last month to one and a half has been super busy on the festival front for yours truly. Three multi-day ones, from 3 days up to 6 days. For all of them, I planned to create a video and write a post for you all. A perfect way to get an impression of what is happening around the world on the festival front. Three festivals with three totally different setups. To add some 'memento' element, I'll give you a glimpse into what I encountered from the last till the first of these three.

Starting with: LANDJUWEEL 2022

This festival is a long-time returning one that started back in 1975. It's regarded the oldest festival in our tiny country that resides (mostly) below sea level. The Netherlands for those that didn't get to somewhat cryptic reference πŸ˜‰ If I remember correctly, the first time I joined was in early 2000. Maybe 2001? or 2002?

Landjuweel: a bit of history

'Landjuweel' is a Dutch word in the English language: Land Jewel. Almost the same in both our languages. Not too strange, the similarities in our languages, since the English and Dutch had many encounters over the last few millenia, from wars to mixed royal houses. For those who are interested in history, Prince Willem the 3rd from the Dutch royal house of Orange was also King of England, Whales and Ireland. Ok, this was about three to four centuries ago, but still πŸ˜‰

Back in the 17-hundreds, Landjuweel was a competition for amateur poets and performance artists. That's where the name of this festival came from. These days, it's not just about poets and performance artists, but also about music. Music ranges from bands to electronic dance and much in between. These days on a pretty small scale due to the location being partially taken over by container and oil tank fields and companies.

Landjuweel is held in the tiny village Ruigoord. A village that has a special status. Although the big container and oil companies are taking part of the land around Ruigoord, the village itself they can't take over due to its special status. Since the 70s of last century, Ruigoord became one of the very few areas where freedom of mind, activities and actions are the norm. In general terms, Ruigoord is a place where artists and spectators/visitors can freely express themselves without government control.

Anyways, enough about the location...

Recording

The video reflects just a tiny bit of what Landjuweel has to offer. Mostly the music side of things as you noticed when watching. Though I was hoping I would shoot more videos and have more art forms recorded, I simply was too much in the moment. I don't think of anything like taking photographs or shooting videos in such a state. My memory serves as the anchor. Cool for myself, but difficult to bring across to others. Therefore am pretty happy I was able to get some video and still images done πŸ™ƒ This year, peeps asked me a few times: "Edje! What are you doing with your phone?" I'm usually the one telling others: "Your phone should stay in your pocket; Your memory serves as the reminder of the festival; No need for photographs and whatnot." I guess I changed after two years without parties πŸ˜‚

My Experience

Four days this festival lasted. Starting last Thursday and ending sometime in the middle of the night last Sunday on Monday. For four days I joined in. The video may suggest two days, but to be frank and fair: the collection is shot over four days and not necessarily in the order of editing. Though the first and last scenes are indeed what they are, the opening of the festival on day 1 and the (almost) closing of the festival on day 4. The rest is a bit of a mix regarding the timeline.

All in all, I had a great time! Again! The atmosphere created by all the peeps was simply superb. Very laid back and chill. Happy vibes all over. Great food. Super nice art. Not so good music, but okay, Landjuweel is never about music for me. Heard some okay-ish electronic music. There were a few okay-ish bands, but mostly it wasn't the sounds I liked. A festival I experienced with some of my closest friends; Perfect! Connected again with some friends I don't see that often; How nice! A festival that allowed me to make some new friends-for-a-day. The weather was beautiful. Blue sky, Sun high up, Temperatures between 20 (early morning) and 35 degrees (afternoon). Perfect! Well, sometimes a little too warm, but in the shadow it was perfect πŸ˜‰ Playing outside is so great in such weather conditions. Decorations and all the little display and performance art; Super cool! Most of it is not easy to discover, since they are tucked away in little corners and bushes. That makes everything even more interesting. It's a true adventure, this festival. After the festival was over and done with, I realised I missed out on some of those corners when I saw some of the other photographs of friends. Ah well, whatever, I had a blast and still today have a great feelings about all I did experience last weekend. And that is the most important thing to take home anyways πŸ™‚

Am able to write mucho more, but you may like to see some visuals instead of all those letters, words and sentences. I hope I can give you an impression through the photographs below. Obviously, the video also serves as the necessary and/or wanted visuals. Therefore, if you haven't watched it yet, just press the play button and chill for about 6 minutes.

I remember the first-ever festival under the name 'Awakenings' as it was yesterday. 20 years ago (no error, keep on reading). Two tents and a small chill area. Harder Techno, Softer Techno, Chill-out House & Disco. Techno lovers only; 8k of them. Super atmosphere. Last weekend it was quite different. Though same location, 7 or 8 areas. Gigantic tents. From ΓΌber the top hard techno to chill out techno and some house. Some techno lovers and a whole bunch of mainstream party peeps; 70k of them. Ok atmosphere... Time changes everything.

At first, I wasn't planning to write this blog post. I and my camera weren't too connected last Sunday. Hence, limited material. After a little push by @mipiano and two-party reports I've discovered in my curation round this morning (here and here), I got the 'energy' to hunt for material to try and bring something interesting to you...Be inspired! πŸ™ƒ

When I njoy festivals, I lock up miss Time. She is not allowed to come near me. It's all about the here and now. The moment. Carpe Diem. Looks like this post is a reflection of that. It was already in the evening when we had this dinner. Somewhere at the side of the festival, behind fences, a food truck was located operated by one of the best Italian cooks in Amsterdam. Today with the job to fill the stomachs of artists, I was fortunate to be with the right peeps at the right time. Delicious!

We could select from 2 set menus. However, Bruno (the cook) told us to sit down and be surprised. A bit of everything was the promise. I've eaten often at festivals (and in clubs for that matter), but never ever to the quality of this. By far the best part of the whole festival experience! πŸ€₯ {read further down for the other good parts, and the video of course πŸ™ƒ}

While 25 years ago no big screens, lights and all that, now everything is massive and done beautifully. The Dutch master of Detroit-ish techno with a minimum of 30, maybe 35 years of experience, on the board!

Trying to be artistic!

Massive tents! Not too busy (yet) since this and following photographs I took when we just arrived early in the afternoon. I must admit, the lights were done very well! {am repeating}

Yet another tent/stage.

...and another one...

It's not always the best or the most comfortable route across the festival terrain. Having the perk to be allowed backstage, these quiet routes we took more than a few times.

Back to one of the stages you've seen above in one of the other pics.

Though 20 years again the first Awakenings festival, 25 years ago the first Awakenings (indoor) event, it was 23 years ago I joined in for my first ever Awakenings experience. The location: 'Westergas Fabriek' aka 'Gashouder', an old gas tank build more than a century ago. For this anniversary edition, they 'brought' this gas tank to the festival. A great job, since I almost felt to be in the Gashouder. Music-wise it wasn't a success though. A kinda house sound, the moments I checked out this stage.

For a few hours, I had this view. Not that it's the best location to hang around, but the sound was more balanced back here. Awakenings events are known for the pumped-up bass that makes your whole body vibrate. All nice and all such sound-based massage, but mid-tones are pushed way to the back. Hence I had to 'climb' behind the speaker walls for a better sound.

I have no idea how many artists played at this festival, but the three I love, played all in sequence it the same stage. When Sterac started at around 17hrs, I was glued. Whatever happened outside, happened, but without yours truly. As usually, an amazing set he played! A few clips are in the second part of the video. After Sterac, Ben Klock did his thing for two hours. The opening was not too good, but when we came back after our dinner, he pleased my ears and mind a lot. Underground rave techno to the max! When he gave the controls over to the closing act, Speedy J, I felt like staying for at least another hour, but my friends decided they wanted to go home. I was too lazy to find other means of transportation and wasn't in the mood to walk home, though only 18 kilometres away from my cosy couch. There is always a next time πŸ™ƒ And many next times will come this year, am pretty sure about that.

Orrrr, it should've been the Day of Days. "Why?" you may ask? Well, thank you for asking. I'll explain...

It was the second Saturday behind us, I entered the area where this mini-festival took place. It carries the name 'Thuishaven', but more about that later. The first festival in what feels like a gazillion years. With the winter sun high in the sky, this day could've been the Day-of-Days, but it wasn't and it was not supposed to be. We had a great time, but more with our friends and other peeps than with the music. We knew this regarding the music (mostly boring) but joined in anyway. Possibly with the (unconscious) idea to do a warming up for the Day-of-Days.

And then, I almost missed the Day-of-Days! As you know, almost means not completely. It's very binary, either I missed it or didn't. And I didn't. Fortunately, since it turned out to be the expected Day-of-Days!

The warming up session gave me a nice little present. Being free of any virus for a very long time, some to more peeps at Thuishaven decided to get rid of some of their protein-coated DNA by offering a new home for them, the body of yours truly. "Thank you very much peeps!" Am not 100% sure, but It turned out to be a relatively normal virus we all know and encounter regularly, the one that turns are noses into waterfalls. Usually, a few days of trouble and then back in business. But it turned out that this army of DNA and proteins is a bit tougher to fight. Rollercoaster like adventures the two days before last Saturday made me almost miss the Day-of-Days. On the agenda: stay at home, in bed, feeling sorry for everything. Luckily I had some brain cells talking sense into me. It did help a lot a super friend di her job to get me enthusiastic. "I could not miss out on the Day of Days!" And so it happened, I collected all the energy I could find, did all the prep work needed (shower, dressing mostly) and dragged myself over to 'Thuishaven'.

What a Show it Was!

|| as it says on the board: Circus. Thuishaven can be described as a modern circus, where animals are replaced with artists...oopsy πŸ˜‚

In summer this festival is like a real festival, everything is outside: dance areas, bars, food bars. This time of year, it's dressed for wintertime. Basically, all dance areas are covered in tents, from modern to circus tents. With heaters inside, it's like a real summer festival at night. You can get an impression of this festival through earlier posts: here, here, here, here, and here. Pretty Perfect setup and place to be at!

Day of Days Getting to the core of this post, the reason why last Saturday was the Day-of-Days. It's very simple, the lineup, the artists spinning! Two names (Sterac and Speedy J) already guaranteed the Day-of-Days. One name (Albert van Abbe): First time hearing him in a live setting, a recent discovery through his latest album (here). And one name I didn't know at all but turned out to be quite interesting van Anh, a Dutch upcoming artist. For a minute or a bit more, you can hear Anh in the video. More names on the lineup, and I could all mention them but decided to share them through a tiny photo in the comment section. Self-service reading material.

The saddest thing though that didn't turn the Day-of-Days into the squared version of itself, is that I started to feel not too well when the evening progressed into the late evening. No more than 15 minutes into Speedy's live-act, I had to leave for home. I needed to prevent the virus army to enter the core of what makes edje, edje... but but but... rest assured... no complaints at all... I had at least 6 hours of extreme pleasure!

|| Some heavy 'machinery' with the DJ playing behind it. Not sure why this part of the setup. During the event, the fan did turn slowly. Wondering if it'll start turning really fast when some DJ suck?

|| A little opening in the cage. Was this made on purpose? Or did the fan try breaking out before?

Spread the Vibes Since I was already going against what others would do, njoying a festival while officially being ill, why not bend more rules? I have at least 5 invitations open to enter the Spread the Vibes thingy we have over at the tiny writing corner Q-Inspired. With my turtle speed of posting, this will take at least a few months before I can respond to all of them. So, why not combine this party video/report kinda post with a Spread the Vibe one with the happy result the 5 becomes 4 open invitations?

Intro: Creative Process involving Stupidity

Slowly, very slowly, I try and up my 'game' in video production. Not that I can be called a professional, not even an amateur, but more like a baby trying to learn whilst not knowing what I'm doing. After creating two videos with my iMovie app (free to download when owning a MacBook), I needed a fade-in and -out for the audio part for my next video, the one I'm sharing here. As a 'normal' guy, I tried everything, but couldn't find such a feature. Subsequently, as most men do, I tried another program I downloaded before, named 'DaVinci Resolve'. Much more complex software to handle. Much less straightforward than iMovie. After, again, an hour plus trying, I decided I was still too much a baby to master DaVinci. Back to iMovie again. But, this time the proper way: Google search for the solution {note to self: install PreSearch}. BAM! The answer was provided to me with the first search result, a question/answer in the Apple forum brought to me at first search attempt {at least I can define useful search strings}. I felt like an idiot! Hours were wasted because of my male dominant brains. In that process, at some point, I wanted to ditch this 'project' and was thinking: "Video production is not for me at all; I can't even handle a relatively simple video editing program! And then all the creativity that is required to get a decent video done that is interesting enough for others to watch." Anyways... Solution found and the project continued. I can't say if the result is decent enough, I leave that to you to decide.

Do I have brains? Wouldn't a properly working brain not decide to search for the answer first before spending hours and hours trying?

Club Events The last time I was in a club was more than two years ago, a small location called 'the Garage' somewhere in the north of my tine home city 'Amsterdam'. At least it felt like the last time, but to be honest, I'm forgetting the three afternoons/evenings in a row I spend in three different clubs during the last Amsterdam Dance Event held in October 2021. Back then we had this window of like 4 to 6 weeks in which club events were allowed. Before that and afterwards total lockdown on the club front. Now we are opening up completely. Two weekends ago, several clubs opened out of protest (which wasn't allowed still). Last weekend, clubs were allowed to open up to 1 AM. This weekend, back in full swing like the good old pre-Covid days. Opening hours as per license which for some clubs is just till 4 AM, others have licenses till 6 AM and some have 24hrs licenses varying from 1 day till a complete weekend. Such a shame that one of the two 24hrs weekend clubs in my home town, is not anymore! It closed its doors about two years ago. By far, my favourite club around is gone! When thinking of it, it's difficult not to start crying like a baby.

You see? Baby again! πŸ˜‚

My BAS/S Club Evening When arriving at the venue, we had a great laugh before we even entered the place. It started with my decision about what stairs to take. At first, we wanted to take the comfortable one, the not so steep one, but I said to my companion: "You see the number of peeps that we need to pass before we get to our entrance? Let's take those stairs back there!" So we did. Halfway I heard behind me with a somewhat giggling voice: "You made an excellent choice for us to end up in the water." Since I didn't made any pictures, I share one from the Internet below originally published in the online newspaper 'Volkskrant'. In our case, all the peeps were not at the top of the stairs but at the bottom to the right of the club entrance. The stairs are the ones we took. Fortunately, we didn't fall down. Even if we would've, we might've still ended up with dry feet with this little not too strong fence at the bottom.

originally published by 'Volkskrant' (source) For some reason the bouncers wanted us to wait for the stage manager to come and fetch us, so we waited outside. So funny seeing so many peeps coming out of the club whilst the clock was showing us a time around 9:30 PM. Are they already leaving? Must be. Then we saw many peeps in short-sleeved clothes standing in line, all smoking. Apparently, the inside smoking rooms are not allowed anymore. A new law was passed recently. Not that it is already summer, or even spring. Just too funny, none of them seemed to feel the cold! At some stage, I think I detected one individual that was not comfortable with the temperature. Just one, from at least 30 or 40 peeps out there nicotine-ing up their bodies. Officially only the legal drugs allowed (alcohol, and plenty of it), we all know all these peeps took something else otherwise they wouldn't be able to withstand the close to zero Celcius temperatures. It felt like being back in business! Clubbing full swing with everything God (and law) forbids. I have never been to this club, but all this waiting and watching the peeps in front of the club gave me the feeling: This might be a decent one. Peeps seem to be the nighttime ravers kind, no smuck, no brands, no 'air', no high (and even mid) heels. And the atmosphere was darn positive, even in the cold, laughter everywhere.

Deniro playing when we finally entered the club. Peeps enthusiastic. Regardless of their state of being, they let us through when noticing we wanted to pass. Sometimes with a little delay, hence the 'road' to the stage felt very very long. Not a 'bad' long, but still long πŸ™ƒ In reality the depth of the room itself is not big at all. Check the video and you can see for yourselves. The room is shown somewhere in the middle of the video and another time more towards the end of it.

originally published by 'partyflock' (source) At first, my idea for this evening was to enjoy the music to the fullest. Get my ass over on the dance floor and dance the hell out of everything. Turned out most of the evening I was having conversations. Nooooo, this time not with myself, but with others πŸ˜‚ This evening turned out to be similar to the so many club evenings/nights I experienced for years and years. Mostly reconnecting with peeps I know from the scene, and while reconnecting also meeting new peeps. Conversations go from serious to the absolute opposite, and back again.

When the lights went on marking the end of the night, it felt like the four something hours went like a split second! And it felt like: "Why? Why is it over yet?" I talked the night away. "I needed the music on big speakers so badly!" But so far it served more as background music. Not entirely true, but still. I think I spend just 15 minutes or so truly enjoying some of the music and making attempts to dance, which is more like wobbling in my case. The offer to move along to someone's home to continue the party, I kindly refused. "Why the hell did I do that?" I suppose because I try and be responsible like a grownup should be. The night is for sleeping, not for partying, right? Ah well, more of these nights will come my way. Sooner than later, I'm pretty sure of that. Enough time and occasions I can (and I will) act super irresponsible.

On our way home, we ended up talking about audio NFTs and Metaverses. A project is coming my way, I feel: Sharing my knowledge and possibly also my ideas and opinions with artists. Though I feel a noob in these areas, I also realise many artists have no clue at all about these topics. Can I help them? How should I help them? Just provide my knowledge? Shall I try and start some projects with artists I know? It's again one of those crazy ideas I have regularly. Usually, I shelf them immediately after I get them. The shelf is overloaded, I must admit. Every so often, I have to add new shelves. Let's see. Somehow it feels good to start new adventures with friends and acquaintances. "Baby steps edje! Take baby steps" {there is 'baby' again πŸ™ƒ}

Party Reports Back in the days, like 20/25 years ago, I was in the 'business' of creating party reports. Published and all. Very much amateurism status, but still. I liked it a lot. I was making photographs anyways and adding some text to it wasn't that difficult. After the 10th or so request by someone owning a super cool party website, I said yes instead of the usual no. For a few years, I was making my contributions to the scene, the music fans. The side effect was: I was able to get into any place, small, large, cheap, expensive, totally for free. Back then, hardly anybody was making photographs with decent cameras in the electronic dance side of the music business. Therefore they let me in for free, to get a little bit of marketing going for them.

Since the beginning of our blockchain, I had the idea of reviving my reporting activities in this respect. Though I tried a few times, it never evolved. While creating the video and writing this blog, again I feel positive about picking up this party report thingy again. Can't tell you if I will, since I usually end up enjoying a party rather than writing about them.

Are You in? What about you? Will you bring us your parties? I can promise you, I'll read them for sure. Love to! You may consider this tiny writing corner Q-Inspired; Be adventurous and click the image below. A perfect corner for such blogs, don't you think?

It is one of those weeks. Anything that can go wrong, did go wrong. Added to that, all the unforeseen things that required my attention. Earlier this week I received Mister Deadline, someone else decided she had enough of him and send the guy over to my doorstep. Luckily I was able to lock him up in a closet upon arrival. But it turned out, not for long.

nothing to add Miss Time was doing her thing: tick tack tick tack. My colleagues doing shit leaving a lot of extra work for yours truly. Crypto's doing its bear-ish thing requiring my attention. The city council decided to break open the road in front of my home, leaving me without gas and therefore leaving me without my necessary coffee to handle everything. My kitchen decided to break down in terms of blocked sewer drainage. Mister Deadline was able to break himself free and since that moment is nagging me constantly. It doesn't seem I can get rid of him.

Though I was able to silence him yesterday evening. When miss Time passed by, I offered both of them a nice romantic dinner which they took with all their available hands. Such a nice surprise! Leaving me with an evening with nothing to do other than chilling!

While chilling, I got inspired by this post (source).

Earlier yesterday I was sent a little video by my upstairs neighbours. Nothing new for me to see since I was looking at all the construction work for days already. With my desk facing the window, I'm seeing and hearing the workers all day long. And even when these peeps leave their tools to turn home for a free evening and a good sleep, I'm still 100% part of the construction work. Someone decided to tab the sewer system from the apartment block just beneath my bedroom window. That in itself is not a problem when they would not use some mechanical and electrical system for this. Not sure what they really do, but the water gets out of the pipes into a machine, into a BIG bucket of water, and is then directed towards the city sewer system. This machinery makes noise, quite a bit of noise! Ok ok, not so much noise as you can hear in the video part of the post of inspiration, but still: Noise.

Fortunately, most evenings my brains decided to knock me out while 'chilling' on my little couch. Far away from the noise (well! far away? enough far away that I don't hear the noise). Chilling in quotes since I found my laptop a few times on the floor, upside down.

my little couch ...am digressing, since I wanted to tell you the story about the video.

With all that happened to me last week, I was on the brink of madness. Chill time was in order. But even when I finally ended up in the circumstances I could chill, something kept me 'moving'. Was it the almighty 666? I have no idea! But what I do know is that the little 'free' time I was able to arrange for myself, resulted in spotting the said post and gave me the idea of remixing it. Just before my eyes closed with a big bang, like concrete doors, I was able to finish the production. No time anymore for a post, hence I did all I needed to do today to get miss Time to grand me enough time to write this blahblahblah 'boring' post to go along with my masterpiece video production {LOL) Keep in mind, I'm on the brink of madness; I'm not myself anymore; Therefore whatever I write I cannot take responsibility for. Compared to Steven Spielberg and Ricardo Villalobos, my creations are nothing. Although, I do wonder how the construction based 'music' will do in some underground club on a techno night.

There! You have it! Full madness mode!

The year 2022 starts unexpectedly special! Today, the third day of the year provides us with the magical number 3. Why magical? Well, check this post. Also, today I was able to get the footage to a long-overdue remake of the famous movie "The Birds" by Alfred Hitchcock.

Alfred Hitchcock: The Birds - Movie Trailer

Those who've seen the original movie, know the by Alfred 'designed' birds are pretty angry. Why they are angry, is something I don't recall anymore. As far as I can remember, I've watched this movie something like 3 decades ago {the magical 3 again}. But maybe it's like 4 decades ago {darn: no 3 here}. Probably it's somewhere in between. I was still in high school at the time which was in the 80s of the previous century.

Anyways...

In my remake, I did things totally different. I don't like angry birds, so I transformed them into a bit nicer ones. I don't like dark birds, so I did cast some more colourful ones {difficult to see due to light conditions, but they are mostly green}. The positive side effect of my actors is the more friendly sounds they make when speaking, playing and enjoying.

I am so fortunate a group of these amazing little creatures decided to come to one of their most favourite trees in the city in which I live, the city of Amsterdam. To top my fortune, this tree is just in front of my bed (and living) room windows. In spring they sometimes wake me up. Or better said, I wake up when they are singing. But even when they wake me up, am always pleased, since I love the sound of singing parakeets. Gives me the feeling of being in some tropical place, enjoying some chill vacation.

Unexpected...

Those of you who have some knowledge of my country, know we don't have a tropical climate at all. Bordering the North Sea, we mostly enjoy a very mild climate with lots of rain. Summers with something like 20 to high 20 degrees Celsius and Winters with something like -5 to +5 degrees Celcius. Not the best climate for these beautiful creatures to live in. How they came to Amsterdam is a big mystery. Though it could be just an act of nature, some believe our local colony of parakeets evolved from escaped parakeets held as pets in captivity in peoples homes. Others believe some rich peeps flew in a bunch of them to give them a new home in the public spaces of Amsterdam, a present to the peeps in the city. Many of them are found in our own Central Park, "The Vondelpark". This park is kinda around the corner of 'my' tree, just one block away, a long-ish block, but one block {something like 1000 meters?}.

Winter?

Since Amsterdam is located in the northern hemisphere, we are in the winter season right now. You may ask yourself: "Why are these birds not hiding in some place where they find some warmth?" Well, because the weather gods decided to change everything this winter. I think they decided it is about time to fool around with the Dutch. Since the beginning of this year, we experience spring-like weather. Temperatures at the end of the night of about 10 degrees Celcius and like 15 to 18 degrees {yes, again Celcius} in the afternoon. To top it all, no rain, but blue skies. Perfect conditions for these little creatures to explore and enjoy some chill time in 'my' tree.

What a Year!

I didn't know what writers block was until I found out trying to write this blog post. A week of trial and errors, more than multiple attempts, deleted every time the results. So bad, not even worth it to save to disk. The risks of damaging the hard drive was simply too large! Couldn't risk it, since my laptop memory banks where almost dying already from the BS it had to memorise for me.

{loud thinking} can one experience writers block when one can't write? and, can one think when one is in the middle of a writers block? ...euhm...maybe we shall not go that route, not for this blog post, I'll just bore you {sad-ish face}

Some time ago - 18 days ago - I was invited to partake in Spreading Vibes ("Spread the Vibes" as it is officially called). At the same time I was made aware I didn't pull through an already accepted challenge a few months earlier. In order not to fall down the rabbit hole, I simply had to make up for all what was postponed and in some way forgotten. Doesn't sound to hard work: two posts, two favourite music selections, two stories, two... And then came another challenge: Something to do with a secret musical instrument and the ability - or not - to play it.

challenge post: MiPiano & her Oboe Though MiPiano try to let us believe she can't play the Oboe, as she writes: it was just the instrument of a co-musician, I know for a fact - from firsthand experience - she is bending the truth. I was present at one of this events when she played the Oboe for the audience. A somewhat out of the ordinary audience if I may say so. Not the usual type of peeps. A gathering planned in utmost secrecy, held in far far away location; Hidden from the world in every aspect. Some of you may think of us being the Illuminati. Others may think of us being the shadow government trying the control all of you for our own pleasures. But nothing of that sort. Nothing like that exists! It's just: Us!

I do understand. When doing things in such secrecy, its unavoidable outsiders will start thinking in those directions. Not right, but understandable. Time to show you a little bit of what is happening behind the curtains. Certainly supported by MiPiano's post, but - to me - a long overdue brief explanation of what this groups of peeps - generally referred to as the Illuminati - is about. And at the same time, uncovering a hidden secret of the challenger: MiPiano plays the Oboe, very well if I may say so. But, to be fair, this sound is not for everybody. Actually, she is able to create such sounds from this high tech instrument, most of you will not be able to cope with the results. The gentle sounds she produces, the harmony she creates, messes with our brains big time. When not careful enough, one will fly away and never return. This essentially means, in the world we are living in, it's a one way ticket to the lunatic home.

But not this group of peeps. We may already be lunatics from birth, but let's say, we are different. Somehow we all experience what we refer to as "the super dimension". It's really difficult to explain, but we have the sense of being connected, all the time. When you think about it, it's super strange. But think of being one with the table in front of you, with the plant in the far corner, with your best friends at the other side of the world, and even with an Oboe. When we come together, we try to step away from this all compassing connectiveness thats is constantly part of us. We need a break from time to time. Feel the rest of just being with our own thoughts. And strangely enough, it are those Oboe sounds MiPiano is able to create, that can drive everybody else into madness, it's that sound that works like a medicine for us.

What most of you perceive as some dark forces trying to take over the world, the reality is that we are just bunch of peeps taking a small vacation from our 'normal' everyday lives in which we have the deal with everything and everyone in the entire cosmos, every single second to he day. Very exhaustive, I can tell you! When not for the Oboe, we may all be in the lunatic homes already, for quite some time.

{nodding} sorry you readers, not sure if I'm addressing the challenge. 700+ words down this post and having the feeling I'm totally decreasing. Really need to review the rules...

Rule 1: Take a photo with a musical instrument you DON'T play.

Potayto, Potahto {LOL} Am not so much of a photogenic guy, so you'll have to do with a kinda moving photo, an ever evolving photo. The video I mean. Shot in my own home. Object: well yea.

What is it that I was filming here? Let's leave that as a question to you. Let's call it a little challenge for you to guess what it is that I filmed. Leave your answer in the comment section. I'll leave you a few days. Those who guessed right, will be rewarded in one or the other way. The one who was first with the correct answer... Well, you will get something as well {blink}

Rule 2: Write an anecdote about how you managed to come to that instrument and/or why you have chosen that one.

I met my music instrument online. In a special corner called AIVA. I didn't found it, it found me. Well, maybe it was always with me. Remember? The all connectivness? This not only includes things of mass, or immaterial phenomenon's like the collective consciousness (or our own for that matter) but also all the - almost - weightless bits and bites.

Rule 3: Write some funny or interesting facts about that instrument, anything you think can make us understand better and learn in an interesting way about it. Or you can explain how the instrument works, how it gives the sound, parts of it, it is up to you.

Even if I wanted to, I have no clue how this instrument works. With a few clicks and some waiting time for processing, this instrument gave me a 100% unique piece of orchestral work that isn't too bad. Actually, I'm getting quite found of it. Ok, ok, I may have messed it up by playing all the features of adding, deleting, filtering, cutting and editing in the post-processing corner of AIVA. Five tracks I was given, and the sixth I added. Darn hard job to get all these different sounds in a harmonious arrangement. Though I may like the result, it is you that has to tell me your verdict. But don't be surprised when I blame the instrument when you have something negative to say. In the end, I only fiddled around a little with what the instrument created for me.

Rule 4: Share some famous / or less famous pieces composed for that instrument, any music genre, or try to play that instrument and record a video that you will upload for the post ;)

Honestly, I have no idea! Not even sure if I or anyone else can actually play this instrument. It's more like this instrument plays us. Just a few buttons pressed in series, and a few minutes later the instrument comes forward with its own interpretation in all its uniqueness. Isn't it amazing? What a wonderful world we live in! What's not to love from all this technology advancements?

... YOU? What about YOU! Let's all partake in this challenge. Why not? Get your instruments out the dustbin. Or just talk about your favourite instrument you never played. Give us your thoughts and stories. Let us Spread positive Vibes. We can't have enough of that within our HIVE community. Will you come and play with us? What about you @themagus? With your taste of quality music, you must have a taste for some great and maybe even forgotten instrument? And what about you @diabolika? Am sad to read about the difficult phase you are going through at the moment, but am sure this little challenge can set your mind to something positive. And you @empoderat? SEED may thrive when taking a little break from all the investment opportunity research and analyses you do for all SEED believers and holders. And don't we want to see a response from @trumpman as well? I know I do!

Almost by the day, new projects and blockchains are announced and born. Many of them sound nice but have little substance behind them.

KOINOS is different, in my honest opinion.

Why I think that? Easy! The team behind KOINOS blockchain is experienced in building fast and powerful blockchains. Thus far the team members showed they have decentralisation at heart. The way the distributing of the initial 100M KOIN is setup, shows they have fairness at heart. It doesn't look like a money-grabbing scheme at all. No ICO. No pre-mine.

Free Accounts, Transactions and Smart Contracts How can a blockchain offering free everything? Easy! Locked KOIN receive energy (so-called MANA). This energy is the currency to pay for the account creation, transactions and execution of smart contracts. Watch the video for a step by step explanation.

Stuff to Read: Those who follow me on HIVE and LeoFinance, may have seen my articles about KOIN. When not but interested, check the links below...

  • KOIN Buying Experience
  • KOINOS Elevator Pitch

Testnet: Coming very soon.

Opportunity: Regardless of what the team is able to deliver, the opportunity is there and dirt cheap. The maximum supply in the mining phase is 100M KOIN. Today the value set at the Uniswap decentralised exchange is between 10 and 15$ct. This means a total market cap of 10 to 15 Million US dollars only; Absolute nothing in the universe of crypto and blockchains imho :)

Disclaimer: Obviously, my message is not to be taken as financial advise. Do your own research. Read the white paper. Watch the videos on the KOINOS website and in KOINOS YouTube channel. Get yourselves familiar with the team. Only then, make up your mind and act accordingly :)

In this article, I bring forward a definition for Web 3.0 and more, in particular, a definition for SocialNetwork 3.0. While the definitions for the 1.0 and 2.0 versions are more or less accepted by many, no commonly accepted definitions for the 3.0 versions seem to exist.

By no means I declare the definitions for the 3.0 versions to prevail over others. Nor I intend to drive these definitions to become the defacto standard.

I do intend to provoke discussions around the topic of reward-based social networks in general and discussions around the future of the HIVE based blogging services more particularly. The later is not limited to the HIVE native blogging services (Hive.blog, PeakD, Ecency and others) but also applies to all HIVE based tribes (LeoFinance, StemSocial, StemGeeks, SportsTalkSocial, ReggaeJahm, and many others).

Web 3.0 While the English version of Wikipedia (source) is quite clear regarding the definition of Web 3.0 (semantic web), the Dutch version of Wikipedia (source) shows some of the different interpretations for Web 3.0: From a well-integrated web of applications and the ability to build the web with a different set of tools to the semantic web in which all text and media are connected and the concept of Web 3.0 bringing back the experts and authorities to the web (source: Andrew Keen).

It's this latter concept, I like the most. Maybe less tangible in terms of technology, but hugely important in case we like to successfully implement decentralised communities and societies and more specifically to the successful implementations of social networks.

Social Network 3.0 When we define Social Network 1.0 being profile-based (implemented by Facebook, Instagram and the likes) and Social Network 2.0 being content-based (implemented by YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and the likes), the definition of Social Network 3.0 can be defined as MIT already articulated back in 2005: "The third generation of social-networking is about content as much as contacts." (source).

While many of the existing social networks are dominant in either 1.0 or 2.0 versions, most to all provide tools to the user to experience these social networks as if they belong to the category of social networks adopting the other version. Following the definition for the 3.0 version by MIT, one can easily conclude, most to all social network are already social networks 3.0 in one or the other way.

That's maybe true, but I believe we shall give a more detailed definition to social network 3.0. A definition that is more in-line with the semantic web. A definition that gives us tools to support the transformation of our social networking experiences towards one that'll support our wish for more freedom and the building of decentralised societies with the successes we need.

For us to be able to deal with freedom on a grand scale, we need to up our game in educating ourselves, to not believe whatever we get served, to become more critical, to provide proof to our own statements and opinions, as well as to open our minds to those who think differently. Social network 3.0 shall address this topic and enable its users to transform from the naive and somewhat ignorant individual, towards an individual who makes an effort to create an opinion and embraces all that is needed to find the real truths instead of turning other peoples beliefs, opinions and facts into their own beliefs without questioning.

The Challenges with Existing Social Media As pointed out by Evgeny Morozov - in the video clip: a cut from a recording of a recent episode of Dutch in-depth research and the somewhat philosophical TV show "Tegenslag" (source) - many of the social networking companies we know drive content into our timelines that will benefit these companies the most. Revenues are largely based on advertisement. The larger the users value to the advertiser, the higher the value of the services and the company. Since the advertiser's value of a user is driven by the level of activity of the user, it's in the interest of these social networking companies to drive content into our timelines that is sticky, which seems to be easy to consume content as well as content that supports our beliefs.

The topic of the easy to consume content needs no further explanation. We all know how sticky that type of content is. How much we want to consume such content.

To the topic of the more serious content in our timelines: In 2020 we can see the effects of the algorithms implemented. 2020 is a year of great revelation, in that respect. It is the year in which we see social networks driving more extreme views into our societies. It is the year we count as many decision-makers as we have citizens.

Everybody seems to have an opinion regarding COVID19. Opinions largely formed based on the information we got served through our social networks (and mainstream and alternative media, but that is a topic for another article). Existing social media algorithms drive tribalism. In itself not an issue, as long as we are open for the opinions of other tribes. However, it is hard for an average user to stay openminded when over and over a specific 'truth' is 'preached' in our timelines. When we click the links supporting our government regulations, very quickly we see our timelines full of content supporting the truth of our governments. Similarly, when we click a few links bringing forward another truth, we quickly find ourselves bombarded with content supporting that truth.

What could HIVE blogging be? Can and shall we try to change the existing social media in a way this will empower as many individuals as possible in our societies to become more aware, to become more critical towards information, to become truth seekers? I believe the answer is a no brainer; Something we definitely shall fight for. However, it is questionable if we will succeed as long as the revenue models of the social media companies are based on advertisement.

With HIVE we have a BIG advantage over traditional social media. We don't have to rely on advertisement. Content creators and readers/curators are rewards for their attention, unlike in all the traditional social media. The service development teams are (or can be) rewarded through our own Hive Proposal System. Voluntary or mandatory (in-build) beneficiary feature can be used to provide others in the chain a percentage of the content and curation rewards.

Maybe we shall never try and build business models based on advertisement since this drives dependency and dependency drives algorithms that may not benefit societies in a world of maximised freedom.

With HIVE we have the ability to drive a social media experience that'll entice the users to become more self-aware, to become thinkers, to become truth seekers, to become the sceptic we need to become to be able to get rid of central governments and institutions and implement decentralised societies. No advertisers to please. No central entities to empower. No laws other than those we create ourselves.

Why not show the world how social networking can free ourselves from all the BS in, and institutions, kings and queens of this world?

A screenshot from the Website of The Syllabus - a creation of Evgeny Morozov (source) What if... What if we get rid of all the top x post channels based on monetary rewards? What if we don't implement top x posts based on simple parameters such as a number of likes instead? What if we build algorithms like Evgeny Morozov done with his The Syllabus project/service (source and video), to push posts into our timelines that entice us to think (again) about any topic we may need to form an opinion on?

I believe this can be groundbreaking for HIVE blogging. I believe such an approach is something the world needs. Many may not be waiting for it, but what one doesn't know, one doesn't miss. Therefore we shall create the need.

If we can pull this off, the establishment of a social network experience that is not based on external and internal dependencies like advertisers and money as well as free from politics, but a social network experience that drives the increase of self-awareness, the increase of truth-finding (whatever the truth maybe), the increase of meaningful debates, we may become a social network to reckon with. A social network of the future. One that can set a president in how a free and all-inclusive digital presence of the future looks like.

About the Video: I was contemplating for quite some time whether I would upload a cut of the Dutch TV show "Tegenslag" (source, since it is not my content and I didn't request for permission by the content owners.

However, for (obvious) consumerability reasons of the content, I felt I needed to create this 3+ minute clip and upload it. Not many users will watch the source, which is a 45+ minute long program, partially in the Dutch language. If it was YT, I could mark the start of the clip, but since its a bespoke service where this content is streamed from, without the ability to mark the start time in the video, I was more or less forced to create this clip.

Note: The program is public domain made available through a Dutch service owned by the Dutch public TV organisation. They offer this content for free to consume, to anybody (no paywall implemented, no login required). Added to that, this public TV organisation is paid for by taxpayers money, ie the public.

The HIVE blockchain is perfectly positioned to power person-2-person and even person-2-shop payments. HIVE is Free and Fast! The two key words!

  1. Fast: payment transactions are handled in 3 seconds
  2. Free: payment transactions are free-of-charge

The challenge is to get adopted by existing payment service providers and wallet owners: HIVE is a small chain and known for its blogging services.

But we can overcome these challenges by bringing forward a unique value proposition:

Enable direct digital payments while not connected to the internet Large part of the world is not very well connected to the internet. Even in parts of the world where people are connected well with the internet, the connections may be broken due to no coverage (think of mountain areas, remote locations) or bandwidth limitations (think of events with large groups of people).

What you think of such Value Proposition? We will need to get some development done: That's a given. We also need to get some (paid) marketing going, and we may even want to go out and about and sell the solution to the target audience through community owners and maybe even through businesses.

Feature for next HF? Even faster block times would be beneficial for the service. Maybe something for a next hard fork, eg HF25? @blocktrades @howto

With the 57 seconds in total, just a tat too long to be a true elevator pitch. I couldn't make it shorter though, unless I would've removed some of the highlights that bought me in.

HIVE to Tokenise Comments for (established) Brands, Companies and Services. Services includes (but not limited to): Review services, News services, Magazines, Company blogs, Community blogs and any Social Network, whether they are large or small.

When the Market doesn't come to HIVE; HIVE comes to the Market

HIVE is so much more than the Blogging services and the home grown services we all know, like @PeakD, @Hiveio, @Ecency, @Threespeak, @Splinterlands and @NFTshowroom. In one or the other way, HIVE tokenised these services in various forms. But, HIVE can tokenise so much more! HIVE has the ability to tokenise any service around the world that includes some form of social element. Though HIVE has this ability; HIVE is not easy to find for outsiders.

And believe you me: Most of the the 8+ billion people on our planet, and more than 300 million companies around the world, are blind to HIVE.

And even when HIVE is discovered, it is not easy to discover how HIVE works, to understand how to get the most out of HIVE, to figure out who to work with at HIVE, to determine what needs to be done to integrate HIVE.

When the Market doesn't come to HIVE; HIVE comes to the Market!

As with any startup company, onboarding of new services requires a business-2-business (b2b) approach in a well organised setup, with the ability to deliver everything a customer needs to say 'yes' to working together and making things happen.

Everything starts with bringing the right people together. With a team we shall organise ourselves to effectively launch a new startup initiative.

Though I believe the proposition as you can see in the video, is something companies and brands can be interested in, as a team:

we need to create the best proposition we can make

we need to convert this into great promotion and sales collateral

we need to actively approach launching customers

we need to run integration projects and add the technology that is required for such integrations

we may even need to drive support for needed but missing features on the HIVE chain

needless to say

we also need to find ways to fund the whole operation

Let's organise ourselves in ways we never done before.

Let's bring HIVE to well established brands, companies and communities, together.

It was last week I got a post in my Facebook feed from one of my friends sharing the Plandemic documentary by Judy Mikovits and filmmaker Mikki Willis. By then the documentary was already taken down at YouTube, Vimeo and various other video platforms.

I do not believe most to all information brought forward in the documentary, since I don't think COVID-19 has anything to do with an individual or parts of or entire medical industry to control the world population and to enrich themselves in whatever way possible by creating and spreading COVID-19.

But I do believe in Free Speech! Since the Plandemic video is hard to find on the Internet, and I wasn't able to find a copy on 3SPEAK, I got in contact with the 3SPEAK team to understand the terms and conditions with regards to third party video uploads. In a nutshell, I was told uploading such content to this platform, is allowed by the team when explicitly giving credit to the creators and owners. And here I am! :)

Now, I already mentioned I do believe in free speech. But in my honest opinion, free speech comes with responsibilities as well. Fake news is easily created and when done right, it may go viral through all the social media platforms we know. And when something goes viral, we all know the large amounts of individuals simply believing what the see and read, not questioning at all what they get in front of them. This leads to misconceptions which has the potential to become dangerous to the stability of our societies.

360 Degree View This share of the Plandemic documentary is my first attempt to support free speech, whilst give the reader more context and information about not only the documentary itself, but also about the creators. My aim - and attempt - is to provide a more 360 degree view to the readers and viewers. It'll be entirely up to you what you'll believe. But please promise me to carefully go through the links I provide you below, before making decisions for yourself what you'll believe, or what you'll not believe.

A short summary of Plandemic can be found on Wikipedia:

  • Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plandemic

Some A-class newspapers wrote several articles about Plandemic:

  • Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/14/plandemic-movie-discredited-dr-doctor-judy-mikovits-how-debunked-conspiracy-theory-film-went-viral
  • Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/05/08/plandemic-judy-mikovits-coronavirus/

An interesting video by Dr Zubin Damania:

For those who can read the Dutch language (my native language), the Volkskrant wrote a short but spot on article about how censored material go viral faster and uses the Plandemic documentary as one of the most recent examples:

  • Volkskrant: https://www.volkskrant.nl/wetenschap/censuur-mijn-complottheorie-moet-wel-waar-zijn~b42e6e2f/

A Quote from the Guardian article above:

The claims Mikovits made in the interview – about her own career, the possibility that the virus was engineered by humans, and the proper epidemiological approach to containing it – were serially debunked, not least in Science, which also did a sweeping 2011 postmortem on what led to the publication of her later-retracted 2009 paper.

and another quote from the same article

These include the idea that the virus was human-made, possibly in the Wuhan laboratory; that mandatory vaccination is a project by big pharma profiteers that will kill millions; that public health authorities (including Dr Anthony Fauci) are corrupt and not to be trusted.

There is no evidence for any of this, as many outlets have shown. In some cases, as with the claim about bioengineering, the best science indicates the opposite to be true.

A Quote from the Washington Post article above:

The film is so questionable that social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo on Thursday scrubbed it from their sites. A Vimeo spokesperson, for example, said that the company β€œstands firm in keeping our platform safe from content that spreads harmful and misleading health information. The video in question has been removed … for violating these very policies.”

I'm sure we will see many more responses to the Plandemic documentary, either in favour, or against the COVID-19 conspiracy theories of Judy Mikovits. I'll be dropping link in the comment section when I find interesting new ones. Please I invite you to do the same.
