For this episode we're talking about road safety and the road to recovery following a major car accident with Holly Scott. Although her recovery is still continuing today, Holly has come a long way since the day of the accident in 2017, when she was involved in a major car accident. She sustained many injuries, including a brain injury and has required multiple surgeries since.
Holly is now using her experience to help others. She is a mentor to those with brain injuries and in 2022, she was named the first road safety ambassador for the South Australian police. I have heard Holly speak on multiple occasions and we are very fortunate to have her for this episode!

Today we're talking about vision and driving with Professor Celila Chen.Celia is a neuro ophthalmologist, and I am excited to say, I think this is our first professor on the podcast. Celia undertook her ophthalmology training in South Australia and proceeded to a clinical and research fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Professor Celia Chen is a Clinical Professor with University of South Australia and consultant neuro-ophthalmologist/ clinician-scientist at Flinders University. She completed a prestigious neuro-opthalmology fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital. Celia is the current president of the Neuro-Ophthalmic Society of Australia. Celia’s achievements include :- Over 90 peer reviewed papers in leading journals.- Raised more than $800,000 in funding, including prestigious Australia National Health and Medical Research Council grants and fellowships - Contributions to the field include committee roles at national and international conferences. She has an excellent research record and is the recipient of both national and international scholarships and awards including the American Australian Education Fellowship, South Australian Science Excellence award, Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement awards. Dr. Chen is dedicated to providing mentorship and learning opportunities for young ophthalmologists in the Asia-Pacific region. She has been doing field work in Cambodia for over 10 years and providing fellowship opportunity, through APAO Women in Ophthalmology International Fellowship Program, Kim Frumar Schlarship and Eye Surgeon’s Foundation fellowship program. This has helped young ophthalmologist from a developing country to receive fellowship training in a subspecialty area of ophthalmology, at an international training centre of excellence. A charismatic person and a certified rev-head, Khoa is no stranger to speed and adrenaline. But everything changed after his accident back in Christmas of 2012. He was involved in a tragic car accident as a result of drunk driving.

Ali is the CEO of Mobility Engineering. He is a national Vehicle Engineering Certifier and works on various advisory thanks to his extensive knowledge and understanding of crash safety, transport regulations and standards. He is widely sought after for his expertise Vehicle Safety and Mobility Modifications. Ali Akbarian is the Lead Educator and Products Expert at Mobility Engineering, he holds deep expertise in Mobility Products, in particular, the broad range of driving controls available, not only in Australia but Internationally. He is regularly sought after by therapists for his expertise and sits on several transport advisory panels.
Brad is the CEO of Williams Occupational Therapy (Williams OT), an Occupational Therapy Practice specialising in driver assessment and training for drivers with a medical condition or disability. Brad opened Williams OT in 2011 after managing the Occupational Therapy driver assessments department at the Repatriation. General Hospital (Repat) Adelaide from 2008 to 2015. This experience was invaluable and developed his skills in assessment and offered him an opportunity to learn from leading industry experts. Brad and his business, Williams OT, are award winners in occupational services and have been featured on Today Tonight. He is sort after for talks and presentations and is involved in teaching future cohorts of driver trained OTs. Brad is passionate about creating the best possible outcomes for people with disabilities to increase their freedom and independence through driving.
Together, Ali and Brad have over 30 years of experience in areas of driving with a disability and vehicle modifications.
