In February 1983, the Ohio Valley was struck by a terrible snowstorm which eclipsed any such storm in a forty (40) year history. Roads were impassible and power outages impaled the region. However, on February 13, 1983, just as the storm came to a bitter end, an elderly couple witnessed what they believed to be a mannequin that had been disposed of over a hillside off Route 250 near Littleton, WV. The “mannequin” was actually a human body, which had been discarded over the embankment in the pre dawn hours of the day. It was estimated that the body had been deceased around 48 hours prior to the discovery, but had been placed only hours before. Throughout the years, the case has been shrouded in mystery bringing forth a multitude of theories, but yielding no answers to our Jane Doe’s true fate. Join the Cold Case Crew and they delve into the mysterious murder of the Wetzel County Jane Doe. A cold case local to Wetzel County, West Virginia.

(WO)MAN OVERBOARD— On March 22, 2011, twenty four (24) year old Rebecca Coriam of Chester, England, failed to report to her job as a “Youth Worker” aboard the Disney Cruise Line, The Wonder. When both a ship wide and water search failed to provide answers, Disney contacted the Coriam’s, informing them that their daughter was missing. The official narrative states that Rebecca was washed overboard by a rogue wave while on Deck 5 in the early morning hours of March 22nd, but the facts of the case make this theory flawed. What truly happened to Rebecca Coriam? Join the Cold Case Crew as they discuss, “The Disappearance of Rebecca Coriam,” A maritime mystery from the depths of the Mexican Riviera.

She has the following identifiable scars: a Y shaped scar on the outside of her right wrist, a W shaped scar on her forehead, a 4” appendectomy scar and a 10” hysterectomy scar. “But what about my babies!”— It may sound cliche, I know, but as a mother, you rarely give a second thought to what would happen if you somehow found yourself forcibly taken from your children prematurely. You partially think this because so often that is not the case, that ‘It’s not going to happen to me,” but maybe too because you know that it is your worst fear realized and if you think on it too long it’s absolutely terrifying. But sadly it is a reality, especially in many missing persons cases. On July 19, 2006, twenty one (21) year old Melanie Metheny of Belle, West Virginia dropped two (2) of her three (3) children off at The Country Kids Daycare. Melanie was a devoted single mother, who had been making strides to become a nurse. Melanie made remarks to several individuals that morning that she intended to run over to the Garnet Career Center to pick up some transcripts that she needed for the upcoming semester. But Melanie would never make it to the Career Center and by the end of the day, Staff at the Country Kids Daycare contacted Melanie’s family, informing them that Melanie had never arrived back to pick up her children. Melanie has not been seen or heard from since. As clues began to unfold, the circumstances of Melanie’s fate became even blurrier and the events leading up to her disappearance shrouded in mystery. Join the Cold Case Crew as they re-tell The Disappearance of Melanie Metheny, a 2006 Cold Case from Kanawha County and the first in our Capital Crimes Comeback!#MelanieMetheny #UnsolvedDisappearance #UnsolvedMurder #Unsolved #Disappeared #Vanished #MissingPersons #2006 #CrimesOfOurCapitolCity #ColdCasesOfKanawhaCounty #WestVirginiaUnsolved #ColdCasesOfWestVirginia #WhereIsMelanie? #JusticeForMelanieMetheny

On the night of October 26, 1986, avid baseball fan John Phillips of North Kingston, RI, attended a World Series party at the residence of a friend to watch the Boston Red Sox take on the NY Mets. In the early morning hours of October 27th, John’s body was discovered in the parking lot of Golf World, less than a mile from where he left the party. He had been shot once in the head, and his death was ruled a suicide. For fifteen (15) years, there would be no investigation into the suspicious circumstances that surrounded John’s death. Banking Executive LaRoy Gorman seemingly had the world on a string. Gorman, a self made man who scaled the proverbial ladder of success, sat on the board of multiple charities and was a well respected member of the Charleston Business Community. On the evening of November 12, 1982, Gorman and his girlfriend were leaving the Steak and Ale Restaurant when he was struck by three (3) gunshots as he attempted to enter his vehicle. His assailant promptly peeled out of the parking lot, never to be identified. But what started out as a fairly straightforward investigation into one of Charleston’s most respectable citizens soon became muddled with confusion as revelations of Gorman’s personal life were brought into question. Who would want to kill LaRoy Gorman? Join the CCC for the final installment in our “Crimes of Our Capitol City Series” The 1982 “Murder of LaRoy Gorman,” a Cold Case local to Kanawha County, WV.

On the evening of Friday, March 16, 1990, thirty four (34) year old Lynn Parker Priestley went out with some friends and a man she was casually dating for dinner and drinks. Lynn and her date broke away from the group for a stint of time, patronizing the Tidewater Grill in the Charleston Town Center. Lynn agreed to meet up with her friends at a popular bar, Spanky’s about an hour later, but she would never show up. Despite the conflicting timelines of events, the facts of Lynns case are simple: she was last seen alive around 12:30am by a bailiff outside the Judicial Annex Building downtown. At the time of this encounter, she was said to have been arguing with a man who was presumably her date. Lynn’s nude body was discovered five (5) days later by a fisherman on the banks of the Kanawha River between Chesapeake and Cheylan. What sequence of events took place after 12:30am in the early hours of March 17, 1990? How did Lynn Priestley end up dead on the side of a riverbank? Join the Cold Case Crew as they re-tell “The Murder of Lynn Priestley” a Cold Case local to Charleston, WV and the second in our “Crimes of Our Capitol City” series.

Between 1962-1964 Southern West Virginia was being haunted by the presence of a seemingly “Mad Man.” Throughout the course of several years as many as seven (7) men disappeared while walking alone or hitchhiking in Fayette and Wyoming Counties. It wasn’t until the butchered remains of Mike Rogers were discovered in December 1962 that panic spread throughout the small Appalachian Community and the legend of “Mad Butcher of West Virginia” took hold. Though only two (2) butchered bodies were ever discovered, the whereabouts of the others remain a mystery. Come along with the Cold Case Crew as they re-tell the story of the “Mad Butcher of West Virginia.” In this Part 1, we will discuss the victims and the circumstances surrounding the disappearances and follow up with the investigation and suspects in our next episode.
