projects her design firm did was transform a spare bedroom in her home into a tranquil

Steve Gurney founded Retirement Living SourceBook in 1990. Drawing from the experience of observing his family caring for Steve’s aging grandfather, he created a comprehensive publication to help others in the same situation.

Steve is a competitive endurance athlete and certified level 2 Adaptive Snowboard Instructor with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI), a certified level 2 Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor with the American Canoe Association (ACA).
In the winter he instructs with Blue Ridge Adaptive Snow Sports at Liberty Mountain Resort, and for over eight years he led operations and a team of instructors at Surf Reston Stand Up Paddleboarding, which he turned over to Reston Association.

Vision changes is one of the first declines we experience with the onset of aging. Visual impairment can occur as early as 35-40 years of age.
The best way to ward off more serious eye problems is through early detection by a doctor. Visual impairment accounts for one out of the four leading causes for falls in older adults.
The other 3 causes are taking medications incorrectly, hazards in your home, and decreased strength/muscle weakness.

As our life expectancy continues to increase, so does our likelihood of developing dementia. Dementia **is a condition characterized by progressive or persistent loss of intellectual functioning, especially with impairment of memory and abstract thinking, and often with personality change, resulting from organic disease of the brain. Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and frontotemporal dementia, are just a few diseases that fall under this large umbrella. Tracy Perez has navigated tremendous challenges since Sept. 29th, 2017 after her husband, Juan Perez was involved in a motor vehicle accident where a train hit the car he was traveling in, while on a business trip in Amsterdam. Juan's injuries were severe. In addition to multiple physical injuries he also suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Both Tracy and Juan's life, as well that of their two children and grandchildren, changed in an instant. Tracy shares her courageous and inspiring story with us and dives deep into how to navigate Worker's Comp Insurance and how she assembled a "dream team" to create top-of-the-line facilities for Juan.
Travis Camerio, CPHB, CAPS of Camerio Builders, occupational therapist, Peggy Freedman, Jane Norman, nurse case manager, and equipment specialist Garol Orr owner of 101 Mobility, all played a vital role in bringing this project to life. This project spanned over 3 years. That's how long it took to create a space that was not only accessible and functional for Juan, but one that also took into account future needs that may arise as part of the natural aging process. In addition to this, a state-of-the-art sensory room was created to help Juan recover from his TBI.
