Can it have been 4 weeks since Cheltenham! Time has flown but the extra week vs the usual 3 between Festivals has certainly letf us feeling fresh and ready to go. Perhaps horses that ran at Cheltenham will feel the same.
Here we get stuck in to every race across the first two days of the meeting with a dual nap for the Friday at 9/1!

Hello Folks - Ben & Bruno are back with you after a lovely little Cheltenham hiatus. What a wonderful and, crucially, profitable week it was and hopefully you followed us in antepost on the likes of Jango Baie and Air of Entitlement.
Now that the Festival dust has settled on Gloucestershire, it's time to look a bit further north as we prepare for Aintree's Grand National meeting. Next week we will have not one but TWO episodes for you covering all the 21 races post decs across the 3 days but, in the meantime, we have done a deep dive into the greatest jumps race of them all here for your listening pleasure. A slightly different format this week where we go horse by horse down through the top 10 or so in the market and rate their chances before looking for anything worthy of consideration at bigger prices.
A lot of fun and we hope to have helped you with your shortlisting!
Enjoy,
Ben & Bruno

Well can you adam and eve it, the 2026 Cheltenham Festival is almost upon us! As excitement reaches it's peak, we dig into each of the 5 championship races as well as share a best bet each for each of the four days.
Thank you for listening along with us this season and specifically with these antepost angle episodes. We've had a great time recording them and really hope you've enjoyed them and found some interesting angles for certain races and also some helpful punting perspectives for the biggest Festival of them all.
Good luck next week whatever you back and enjoy the visual feast that lies ahead.
Cheers,
Ben & Bruno

After a good few of our handicap chase selections have shortened significantly over the last few days, we're back with a deep dive into each of the 5 handicap hurdles. We look at the ideal profiles for each race and create some nice tight shortlists for with suggestions of whether there's antepost value or if it's a case of bet on the day. Patience and self-control will pay off atthe Festival, so don't feel compelled to lunge in unless you're convinced there's value in the current price. One or two from your shortlist can look a lot more attractive on the day once you know the final field, jockey, ground, etc.
Enjoy!

This Tuesday marked the official entry stage for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival Handicaps and so this week we have dedicated all our efforts to trawling through all 7 handicap chases (and 268 associated entries!) to create shortlists for each race, including some useful trends that can help bring a shortlist into sharper focus. We also discuss which horses to back now and which may offer similar value on the day.
This was a lot of fun! We hope you enjoy and agree with some of the selections!

We're back after a week's post-DRF recuperation and looking ahead to a good Saturday card at Ascot, where frankly the Grade 1 Ascot Chase and Jonbon's latest bid to finish either 1st or 2nd is the least of our punting worries. We find a pair of tasty naps in the handicaps and highlight a well bred bumper runner that's very familiar to those of us that can think back to 2018...
Enjoy the show and let's find some winners!

All 15 DRF races covered for your listening and punting pleasure. Let's just hope they pass the inspection on Saturday morning!
We have some strong fancies, particulalry in the Spring Juvenile, the 2m handicap chase and the Irish Gold Cup itself for the Saturday. Then on Sunday we're confident we've found the winner of the mares handicap hurdle, just as we did on our first visit to the DRF back in 2019, along with the Leopardstown Handicap Chase, the mares bumper and the Irish Champion hurdle!

What a day to look forward to.

Hello again Antepost fiends!
We're back for our second of this season's Antepost Angle series and this time we're completing the novice hurdle set with the Mares Novices Hurdle and the Triumph Hurdle, along with the Champion Bumper too (which surprisingly yielded a strong antepost fancy).
The mares race has not been one for favourites (nor are we convinced this year will be different), so is there value now or is it better to wait for value on the day, or both? We discuss. The Triumph is fascinating with new additions to the scene post-Christmas and one or two very highly touted horses yet to show themselves but possibly running over the next two weeks. We create a shortlist of those and give more than a nod to the importance of the Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival. Which we also do in the context of the Champion Bumper, a race that has often been won in recent seasons by a DRF bumper winner.
As ever, the plan with this series is to help create a shortlist of horses for the big races in March. We believe it's not always about taking the value now but about taking a position on a horse or group of horses early enough so we can be nimble as the markets develop in the coming weeks. Horses may shorten after the DRF but they can shorten more in the days following so early movers can be rewarded!
Enjoy!

It's the end of the working week and spirits are in the sky, as are hopes of a cracking mid-January weekend of jumps racing from Ascot and Windsor. This week we're focusing on Ascot's Clarence House Chase meeting card, including some excellent racing away from the flagship Grade 1.
We pick out a couple of strong fancies in the handicaps and Mr AI himself is back from his winter cyber break with his selections, including a bold nap!

Hello there racing fans.
We're excited to bring back our heralded and successful Cheltenham Festival Antepost Angle series with the first episode of this season looking ahead to the Supreme, Turners and Albert Bartlett Novices hurdles.
We start with the 2 miler and work our way up, as we think that trainers do when they have a good novice!
There's no getting away from it, it's a far murkier picture than it can often be in these markets at this stage of the season and even last week's Ballymore Novices Hurde at Naas left us with more questions than answers. So is it right to be playing now or are we likely to have good fields and big prices available on the day?
We discuss and help you find a shortlist to keep a close eye on over the coming weeks, particularly during the Dublin Racing Festival which should be perhaps more informative than ever.
Enjoy!

Wer'e back after the break and ready to get stuck in to Warwick's Classic Chase card this Saturday which, with a bit of luck, looks as though it will GO AHEAD after a week of weather watch.
What it lacks a bit in quality it certainly makes up for in the punting value to be had and we help you find a few for your shortlist, including a 26/1 double!
We hope you enjoy the show and the racing this weekend. Kempton looks good too.

Yes, we understand that 86 minutes is probably too long for a podcast. However, this episode doesn't just skim the surface. We get deep into the detail of each of the Grade 1s across both Boxing/St Stephen's Day and the 27th December with the Welsh Grand National thrown in for good measure. 8 races. Expert analysis. Seeing the wood for the trees, the objective.
We had fun doing this one and hope you enjoy listening.

Hello there pod fans and welcome to BADGER BEERS weekend at Wincanton, the site of one of our favourite race day experiences ever and a weekend we have a serious soft spot for. Maybe 'cos you're properly into November and it really feels like National Hunt season. Either way it's a great meeting and we have both that and Aintree's Grand Sefton meeting to look forward to this weekend!
Bruno, myself and Mr AI himself Andy Inkling get stuck into 9 races across both cards and find, once I recover from Bruno kindly bringing up the Blue Jays' defeat in Game 7 of the World Series.

After a monumental performance at HQ last weekend (if I do say so myself), we're back to look ahead to a cracking Saturday of action at Ascot and Wetherby this weekend, including the reapperance of some of the premier names in the sport that it's great to see out so early!
Mr AI himself Andrew Inkling joins us again as he bids to maintain his 100% strike rate on the show, having provided 3 winners from his 3 naps since he came into our lives. Between us, we look at 5 races from Ascot and the big 3 from Wetherby and, I don't mind saying, have a bloody good time in the process.

And what a two days we have in store. Big fields, old favourites and horses we've heard about all summer that we're finally going to get to see in the flesh. And all on ground that should hopefully be perfect and mean very few non runners. What more could anyone want?
We rattle through all 14 races, giving you a nap for each day, and we also welcome to the show for the first time a special guest in-form tipster who'll be be joining us each week going forwards to share their insight and tips...

Well let's be fair it's a slightly fallow weekend of National Hunt racing after the buzz of Chepstow last weekend (and what a punting start we had!) and before the first Cheltenham meeting of the season next weekend. So we've decided to have a bit of fun this week because it is, of course, The Munster Nash!
We look ahead to Sunday's card at Kempton before picking out our fancies for the big race at Limerick, also on Sunday, in the style of Bobby Pickett himself. We're only 2 weeks from Halloween after all!

We're back! Refreshed and rejuvenated after a cracking summer, we're ready to get stuck right back into a new season of National Hunt racing with you.
In this first episode of season FIVE (jeeze, how did we get here?), we pick out 3 horses each to follow for the season ahead. Could a forgotten Grade 1 winning second season novice chaser find his way back to the top? Could we have another northern-trained horse that will rise through the handicapping ranks to eat at the top table? Speculation. Rationality. Emotion. It's all here.
We then move on to look at the Friday and Saturday of this weekend's Persian War meeting at Chepstow. This is always a fun meeting but this year it feels like we have some particularly good fields, not to mention the extra day with the Welsh Champion Hurdle moving from Ffos Las to a Sunday card here for the first time.
It's great to be back with you. Enjoy and let's go find some winners!
Cheers,

This week we are incredibly excited to say that we hit the 100 EPISODES milestone!
We started this for a bit of fun in January '22 with no designs on where it would take us but we wanted to answer some of the many questions we had about the sport we love. And we think we did that in our "Deep Ground" sections of each episode which now, we like to think, cumulatively serve as a nice little reference library that you can dive back in to at any point should you want to know more about the different component parts of our sport.
Latterly we've pivoted to focusing the show on what we love, form study and race analysis with a view to some weekend punting and we continue to have a brilliant time putting these episodes together. Long may it continue!
In this epsiode, we get nostalgic for a bit then turn our attentions to the first 2 days of the Punchestown Festival on Tuesday and Wednesday. Keep your eyes peeled too as we'll be back later this week to cover the remining 3 days.
Thank you to all who have listened over the last 1,196 days! Here's to 100 more...

As the cold snap sees off Warwick and threatens Kempton this weekend, we've decided not to waste our time going through meetings that may not be on and, instead, focus purely on our first Antepost Angle segment of this season, specifically the markets for the Supreme, the Turners and the Albert Bartlett.
On the face of it these markets had a murky look about them, with the exception of one standout horse, but on closer inspection they take shape quite nicely and we pick out a knocking ew bet at 10/1 and a few at big prices for your shortlist to go with a Festival banker at a decent price!

We are back after our flat racing-induced hibernation, almost 6 months to the day since we signed off series 3.
This time round we are freshening things up, not least with an epic new bit of intro music which should get the blood pumping before we share with you our 3 horses to follow for the upcoming jumps season, and this time we've each approached the task in very different ways.
Then from next week we'll step properly into our new bitesize format of previewing one of the weekend's racecards in forensic yet snappy detail, hopefully landing on some profitable angles that will at the very least help break down the big racedays.

Every year it's the same. October and the Persian War at Chepstow rolls around and the buzz for the new NH Racing season is audible! We're selecting our horses to follow. We have the first HQ meeting. The Grade 1s start rolling by late November and before we know it we're staring down the barrel of the manic Christmas schedule! The Challow marks the end of the year and with the New Year we're off HQ to shakle off the hangovers then to Warwick for the Classic Chase before the end of Jan/early Feb Cheltenham/DRF melee. Then it's the Cheltenham Festival Preview Nights and we're all like children on Xmas Eve (/totally sick of the previews!) by the time we reach that week in the middle of March. And then it's done...just like that...and we're off to Uttoxeter for the Midlands National and then on to Fairyhouse at Easter and then Aintree for the race that stops the nation!
Before suddenly...it's the Craven meeting at Newmarket and the jumps season is nearly over for another year...How the hell did that happen?
It's always sad when the season winds down but it's been a hell of a ride this year and, in this season finale episode, Bruno and I look back on our highlights as we dish out the now coveted Talking Horses Podcast End of Season Awards - namely Best Horse, Best Race and Best Personal Moment.
Then we look ahead, as one must in this world, to the 2025 Cheltenham Festival and bring you a 5-fold acca each across the championship races. Just for a bit of fun!
And last but by absolutely no means least, we both just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you that have listened to us during this season. We both have full time jobs and Bruno has a young family. This is just a hobby for us but we love it and it means the world to be able to share our love for the sport with you guys and to have seen our regular listenership grow significantly as the season has progressed. So thank you...and we can't wait to be with you all again in October!
Enjoy Ayr, Sandown and Punchestown and have a great summer. We'll see you soon.
Cheers and much love,
Ben & Bruno x

We're back for day 2 and 3 of the Grand National meeting after landing a 4/1 NAP on the Thursday!
We get stuck in to a load more Grade 1s and some competitive handicaps, not least the big one - the GRAND NATIONAL itself, in which our mutual antepost pick at 25/1 is sitting pretty (still at 16/1 in places!) after receiving a verbal boost from her major owner on ITV today! Hopefully there are more winners to be found.
Thanks for sticking with us this year and let's finish the season with a bang!

This week we are getting stuck into the GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. Bloody hell that felt like an age to wait after Cheltenham, didn't it?
In this episode we go through an amazing Thursday card at Aintree (including FOUR Grade 1s!) with selections for each race including a 7/2 and 4/1 NAP.
We'll be back on Friday morning with our Friday and Saturday selections.
Enjoy the racing!

OK so everyone (it seems) has been banging on (far too negatively for the most part) about the Festival over the last couple of weeks but, within all of that, there is certainly a meaningful conversation to be had about positive change. This week, we compare notes on which races can be canned from our sport's flagship meeting to improve the quality of the races that remain over the week.
Then we look ahead to this Easter weekend's Irish Grand National in our antepost angle and, amongst others, dig out a 20/1 shot whose right-handed form far exceeds his left-handed. "Value!" I hear you cry. Oh yes.
Enjoy the pod and the fantastic Fairyhouse meeting this weekend.

Well that was fun wasn't it! Another Cheltenham Festival in the can. We hope it went well for you! Bruno and I had a great time (and are broken now!).
This week, we share a couple of brief reflections on our sport's biggest week both from a racegoer experience and a punting perspective. Spoiler alert - we're not winging!!
Following that we look ahead to the sport's blue riband event, The Grand National, and share our antepost shortlists including a couple on which we both agree at 14 and 20/1 NRNB that are almost certainly going to go off much shorter if they take up their entry.
Time to get excited about the Spring Festivals at Fairyhouse, Aintree, Sandown and Punchestown guys. The jumps are far from over yet!
Cheers and thank you all so much for listening.

Can you smell the Prestbury Park turf yet? Are you seeing Cleeve Hill in your dreams? Is everything you see starting to look like a pint of Guinness?
Oh yes ladies and gentlemen, the week that's better than Christmas for all National Hunt racing fans is finally upon us! Is there a better feeling in the world?
In this episode, we fly through all 28 races bringing you honest opinions on each including BIG fancies, races we can't make head or tail of, favourites to lay and, hopefully, lots and lots of winners. At the very least, we hope it brings food for thought as you cement your own last minute punting positions for the week ahead.
Enjoy. Gamble responsibly. And we hope to see some of you there!

After covering the Tuesday and Wednesday Festival handicaps in last week's episode, we're back this week to go through the remainder across days 3 and 4.
We look at some of the angles that can often help to find the winner of each race and provide a shortlist for each of the five races, including some stronger fancies for the Plate and the County Hurdle, plus there's a chance Bruno has plucked Chambard mark 2 from obscurity in the Kim Muir! We also appraise each race for whether it's worth having a bet now or waiting until final decs.
Some of the Festival handicaps are more devilish than others but they're races in which we've done fairly well in the past so fingers crossed we've found some more Festival winners in waiting for everyone here!
Look out for our final Festival run-down, out on the Monday morning of Festival week.
Until then, thanks for listening and enjoy the show!

With less than 3 weeks to go until the Festival and the handicap entries out this week, the handicap markets are about to go into silly season so this week we attempt to get you ahead of the curve with the horses to consider backing now before they shorten and indeed those that are already too short and there to be taken on.
We also discuss which races have a good antepost shape to them vs those in which there's bound to be tons of value on the day.
There are a few really strong fancies and a couple of firm lays so plenty to get the Festival juices flowing even further!
Enjoy the show and thanks for listening.

This week we tuck into the discipline of jumps racing that doesn't require any jumping, National Hunt Flat Races, otherwise known as BUMPERS.
We recap on why a lot of people (including us) feel there are far too many of them, and why the sport would be better off addressing that, before we then turn our attentions to the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival, which somewhat ironically looks like one of the best betting heats of the week, in this week's Antepost Angle. And excitingly, we align on two at nice prices including one from the preeminent trial for this race in recent years! Feeling very good about those two....
We hope you enjoy.

WOW...what a weekend in Dublin.
How do we come back from that, especially after putting up 7/1, 16/1 and 20/1 winners!
Well by crunching through ALL of the Cheltenham Festival novice chase antepost markets - that's how! We identify a banker for the Turners and a couple at nice prices in the Arkle, which is now wide open after Marine National bombed out last weekend, and the NH Chase which also looks pretty competitive at this stage.
Enjoy and hopefully this paves the way for some joy in March.
Cheers for now,

I mean Trials Day was one of the best in recent memory so just imagine a world in which the following weekend is EVEN BETTER. Well let us tell you, we're living that reality. It's Dublin Racing Festival Time!
This week we go through each of the 15 races across the two days at Leopardstown in a bid to count the number of WP Mullins and JP McManus winners and hopefully make a nice little profit in the process. We pick out 4/1 and 8/1 naps before we wrap up and run off to the airport for our flight to Dublin.
Enjoy what promises to be a cracking weekend of racing with some reputations enhanced, bubbles burst and some surprise results amongst some of the very best NH racing one could hope for.
Cheers for now. See you on the other side!

Wow! WHAT day we have ahead of us at HQ on Saturday. This looks to be the best Trials Day card in years and it's a cracker from both a quality and a punting perspective. So much to look forward to!
We crack through all 8 races and share our selections for each, including some bullish ones at good prices in the handicaps.
Enjoy, let's hopefully find some winners and most importantly of all, enjoy the smorgasboard of National Hunt racing that awaits us on Saturday at Prestbury Park.

Bruno got really annoyed last weekend after Firefox got beaten in the Lawlor's of Naas that this season's novice hurdler maybe just weren't that good. It got us thinking. How good a bunch (or not) are they and how can we tell? We take a dive into how you can compare groups of horses across seasons and discuss why it matters to punters to know as much as possible about what we're dealing with!
And this week we complete the Cheltenham Festival novice hurdles Antepost Angles (completed it mate) with the Triumph and the Mares Novices Hurdle. We both like the same one at the top of the market in the Triumph, albeit that race looks like it could be one of the races of the week in March.
Looks like a quiet weekend of racing ahead. Why not spend your time listening to this.

Well bugger all happened last weekend didn't it. Ah early January....
To fill the void, we look this week at ideas that could really move our sport forward in 2024, including crating a qualification structure for the Cheltenham Festival races and hanging awnings in space to deal with fences being "dolled off" at Aintree due to low sun.
Then in the second of our 2024 Cheltenham Festival Antepost Angles we look ahead to BOTH the Ballymore and Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdles, agreeing on exactly the same 3 for the Ballymore (surely one of these wins!) and hopefully narrowing down the perennial minefield than is the Albert Bartlett.
Great weekend of racing ahead this weekend too so lots to get excited about. The Festival Antepost markets are properly active now so pens and paper at the ready!
We hop you enjoy the show this week!

Happy new year!
Wow what a 2 weeks we've been treated to on the racecourses of the UK and Ireland. You'll be please to know however that this isn't yet ANOTHER review episode and, instead, we're tackling something we think is altogether more interesting in this week's deep ground. Cheltenham Festival winners of recent years have either started their careers in point to points, bumpers or novice hurdles in the UK and Ireland or in hurdles or flat races in France. But which of those have produced the most winners in recent times and for what types of race? We look at the last 6 years and crunch the numbers to see if they can ultimately guide us towards this year's festival winners and what they might tell us about the direction of the sport.
Also, this episode sees the return of our Antepost Angle segment and indeed the first of of this season to focus on a Cheltenham Festival race, namely the Supreme Novices Hurdle which looks at this stage to be dripping with value! We agree on 16 and 33/1 shots and thrown in an additional one to consider backing NRNB and an apparent second string that has achieved way more for his stable than the supposed number !
Thanks as always for listening and do give us a rating if you're feeling generous. Go on. You know you want to...
Much love and happy racing,

Every year, we're left feeling dazed and bewildered by New Year's eve as we try to keep up with and digest the barrage of Christmas racing. This year...this year it can and will be different and the Talking Horses Podcast is here to help!

Remember, enjoy it and don't get bogged down in it. You don't always have to have a bet but you can make notes and build a clear picture for yourself for the second half of the season!

Bruno is back from his week in NYC and thankfully he still has a show to come back to after my solo effort last week. Probably because I tipped a 5/2 and a 7/1 winner on Saturday at Newbury! Remember, this is not a tipping podcast. Or is it.......
This week, we review the status of our horses to follow as we near the busy Christmas period before getting stuck into this week's Deep Ground in which we ask off the back of I Am Maximus' Drinmore success last Sunday, how did the Irish National winner win a Grade Novice Chase 8 months on and is it OK?
And in the return of our Antepost Angle this week, we take a look at the next big 2m handicap hurdle of the season which comes in the form of the Betfair Exchange Hurdle at Ascot's Long Walk Hurdle meeting the weekend before Christmas. Will the Greatwood form come to the fore or are there other form lines to consider? Bruno nearly made it 3/3 in the first Antepost Angles of the season with Mahler Mission last weekend and he's really keen on one here too. Don't miss it.
Enjoy another cracking weekend of racing at Sandown, Aintree, etc, this weekend (they're coming thick and fast at the moment with Cheltenham next week too!).

This week we look at what can be done to ensure races don't get swamped with declarations from a single yard after 15 of the 22 runners in last weekend's Troytown Handicap Chase hailed from Gordon Elliott's Cullentra yard. We look at why that ain't the best thing for racing and a solution that could make a big difference to race competitiveness and the balance of power among Irish trainers too.
Then, in the latest of our series of Antepost Angles, we get stuck into our first Grade 1 of the season which is the King George on Boxing Day at Kempton Park. After recent performances form this segment of the show including the winners of the Paddy Power Gold Cup and the Greatwood Hurdle last weekend at Cheltenham, you might want to check this out!
There's good racing at Ascot and Haydock this weekend so we briefly look ahead to that although weekend selections will follow on the social platforms. We've put up a 5/1 winner and 14/1 each way place the last two weeks so keep your eyes peeled!
Thanks for listening and please do give us a quick rating if you possibly can on whatever platform you listen on. We'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

This week we dispense with our usual Deep Ground and Antepost Angle features and dive head-first into the forthcoming 3 glorious days at HQ. We take a look at the races that are likely to have the greatest bearing on the rest of the season, in particular at the Festival in March, and highlight one or two horses to keep an eye on this weekend including a Grade 1 horse surely masquerading as a handicapper in Sunday's Greatwood Hurdle!

This week in Deep Ground we discuss race pace. Why is it important? How can you spot how fast horses are going in race? How does that heighten the enjoyment of watching a race and improve your chances if you're having a bet? And is the viewing experience as good as it could be? One thing is for sure, it's great way to get more of an idea of what goes in the minds of those in the saddle!
Then in this week's Antepost Angle segment we take a look at Newbury's showpiece event, the Coral Gold Cup. It's a historic race (of course formerly the Hennessy) with a breathtaking recent roll of honour including the likes of Denman, Bob's Worth, Many Clouds and Native River. Who will follow in their footsteps in 2023? We have two each for you that we think are going to have a serious chance of being on the premises.
And lastly we have a little look ahead to what's on this weekend. It's a mighty three days across Exeter, Newbury, Aintree, Wincanton, Down Royal and Kelso!
Thanks for listening and enjoy a wonderful weekend of National Hunt racing!

This week we take a look at the well publicised changes to jumps racing's biggest prize, the Grand National. We review the debate as we left it at the end of season 2, highlight the changes that the Jockey Club announced in mid-October and review how they've been received and what impact they may have moving forwards.
Then in this week's Antepost Angle we move on from last week's segment by a single day to the second showpiece of Cheltenham's November meeting, the Greatwood Hurdle. We each highlight a shortlist of 3 and agree on 2 at double figure prices! Hopefully the winner lies among those 4 but are they worth punting now or waiting? We discuss.
Lastly, we finish with our weekend selections from the same race on an excellent card for Ascot's jumps season opener.
Let's hope the weather behaves itself and we get both Ascot and Wetherby tomorrow!
Have a great weekend.

This week in Deep Ground we decided to have a look behind the curtain at just what the hell goes on across the pond once a year that justifies the likes of Gordon Elliott, Shark Hanlon, Willie Mullins & Nicky Henderson sending top horses across to compete. It's the American Grand National! It may have come and gone for another year but in this episode we're serving up some facts and figures to paint a bit more of a picture of this enigma of a race.
And this week also sees the return of our Antepost Angle segment for the new season, kicking off with the Paddy Power Gold Cup on the Saturday of Cheltenham's November Meeting. We suss out a few for the shortlist and agree on one at 12/1 that looks to stand out as an unexposed chaser that could be the answer to this year's renewal.
Lastly, we finish with our weekend selections, both from Cheltenham's October Meeting this weekend! God it's good to have racing at HQ back...
Enjoy the show!

We're back for another wonderful season of NH racing and our 3rd season of The Talking Horses Podcast! Thanks to those that have been on the journey with us so far and welcome to those who are joining us here. We're super excited to be back!
We kick off the new season of the podcast as we did last year with our horses to follow for the season ahead, except this year we've extended it from three to FIVE horses each! Ben thinks he's found the Supreme winner and, in the same colours, Bruno has his eye on a juvenile that could make a splash. There are some exciting handicap projects in there too and Bruno fancies Lucinda Russell apparently. It all gets a bit off topic at one point. It's fine though.
We then wrap up with our first weekend selection each for the new season which will hopefully get listeners off to a great start!

It's been a wonderful season of jumps racing and this week we look back at it through the medium of our inaugural end of season awards! But not before we reflect on the debate that's emerged in the last week about the Grand National and whether, ultimately, it can continue in its current guise in today's world.
We hand out awards to horse of the year, race of the year, trainer of the year, professional & conditional jockeys of the year and personal moment of the year before we finish by highlighting some horses to look out for next season, including our picks for the championship races at the '24 Cheltenham Festival.
Thank you SO much to everyone for listening throughout this season of the podcast. This week we follow on from last week's point to point episode with a bumper episode...and no that does not mean a particularly long one but in fact an episode in which we focus on "bumpers", also known as National Hunt flat races. We ask what they are, why they exist and why there's an increasingly strong voice to reduce the number of bumpers or even remove them from the National Hunt racing programme.
We then look ahead to Friday and Saturday at Aintree for our 3 best bets each from each day as Ben seeks to haul in Bruno's imposing lead in the tipping challenge. Hear what his two double figure priced NAPs are as Bruno bids to hold him at bay with two NAPs that the markets suggest hold every chance.

This week we ask ourselves, what is the point in Point to Point racing? Where did it start, what exactly is it and how does it differ to what we see on TV, where does it take place and which horses from Point to Point backgrounds performed at the very highest level at this year's Cheltenham Festival?
In our antepost angle, we then have a look ahead to Good Monday's Irish Grand National. We identify the key trends for finding the winner in recent years and, in the likely absence of a future Grade 1 performer lurking in this year's field, it looks as though it could pay to look at experience stayers this time around.
We then finish with a couple of horses to consider backing this weekend at Fairyhouse's cracking Easter meeting as Ben attempts to reign in Bruno's handsome lead in the tipping challenge. Top class National Hunt racing is back this weekend - enjoy!

This week, we get stuck into the meaty topic of National Hunt pedigree including the leading NH Sires and the rise of the French Stallions, particularly evident in their dominant showing at the Dublin Racing Festival. We discuss the differences in the profiles of the leading Stallions in the UK/Ire vs France, the impact of gene pools and prize money, and why it might be that there's a reticence in UK/Ire to send "entires" over obstacles which happens a lot more in France. We also have a look at the leading Sires in terms of Cheltenham Festival winners and look at those most likely to make their mark in two weeks' time.
We then have a look at our top Cheltenham Festival handicap fancies in our Antepost Angle segment, sharing three each that pique our interest more than any other, before wrapping up as always with our weekend selections, this weekend coming from Navan and Kelso.

It's one bumper preview special after another at the moment!
Straight off the back of last week's Cheltenham Trials Day preview special, we're back this week with a look ahead to another delicious weekend of racing at Leopardstown in its own right but certainly with a view to the Cheltenham Festival too.
We get stuck into 8 races across the two days, discussing Willie Mullins bingo, form lines and how they relate to others with big Festival targets and even possible Irish Champion Hurdle jockey tactics!
We also bring you a best bet each at 7/1 and 8/1!
Enjoy! Gamble responsibly and good luck this weekend.

This week Ben & Bruno get stuck into this weekend's monster 9 race Trials Day card at Cheltenham, highlighting the races that tend to be pointers to big festival performances in March and some horses to take seriously on Saturday.
They then have a look at the three mares races at the Cheltenham Festival - the Grade 1 Mares Hurdle on the Tuesday, the Grade 2 Mares Novices Hurdle on the Thursday and the Grade 2 Mares Chase on the Friday - creating a nice shortlist for each including one that Ben really fancies for the Mares Novices Hurdle at 10/1!
Finally, they wrap up with a selection each for the weekend from Cheltenham.

This week Ben & Bruno try and unpick what's at play with a meagre three confirmations last Monday for one of the premier races of the National Hunt calendar, the Clarence House Chase at Ascot, now hopefully being rescheduled to Cheltenham Trials Day after Ascot was abandoned during the recording of this episode!
They then try and unpick the complex tapestry of the novice chasing division ahead of Cheltenham, identifying an overpiced 25/1 shot for the Arkle and two they'd hang their hot on in this division.
Finally, they wrap up with a selection each for the weekend (hopefully!) from Haydock and Navan.

This week the boys consider syndicate ownership – What is it? How does it work? What syndicates’ silks might you have seen on big race days without knowing? What’s the attraction?
They then look ahead to the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham in March with a couple each for the shortlist, one of which is mutual and makes plenty of each way antepost appeal, before wrapping up with their weekend selections, both from Warwick, fresh off the back of two big runs from their big-priced selections last weekend.

In this week's "Deep Ground" we discuss the concept and merits of doing your own "tissue" for a race and have a go at doing our own for this Saturday's Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown, hopefully finding some serious value in the process!
This week's Antepost Angle features the Novice Hurdlers Class of 2023 and the names we have at the top of our lists for the Supreme, Ballymore and Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdles at this year's Cheltenham Festival.
And lastly, as always, we finish up with a tip each for Sandown on Saturday in this week's Tipping Challenge!

In this week's "Deep Ground" the boys are trying to get under the skin of what makes a great ride. They look at three examples from previous Cheltenham Festivals and try to identify what made those widely acclaimed rides so special.
This week's Antepost Angle features the 2023 Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. In light of recent news that all is not 100% for short-priced antepost favourite, Allaho, the boys try to find some alternatives at nice prices that could have you in a nice position come March and settle on two that can be backed at 16/1 and 25/1 respectively.
And lastly as we're pre-declarations for Boxing Day, they wrap up with two horses each to follow over the bumper Christmas racing period.
Have a wonderful Christmas!

The boys are back and in this week's "Deep Ground" they're taking a look at antepost betting - What is it, why is it so popular and how does one go about making it pay?
Fittingly, the "Antepost Angle" feature returns again this week and the focus turns to jumps racing's blue ribband event, the Cheltenham Gold Cup! Ben and Bruno pick out three each to consider at this stage with prices ranging from 7/1 to 25/1!
They wrap up with a selection each from Cheltenham on Saturday with Bruno fresh off the back of banging in Noble Yeats at 6/1 last week.

This week the boys endeavour to lift the mist that can descend over the Christmas period where the racing comes thick and fast. It's often said that "the picture is clearer after Christmas" and so Ben and Bruno pick out the top level races from either side of the Irish Sea that are likely to have the biggest bearing on the second half of this National Hunt season, including an antepost pick each!
They then wrap up with a selection each from this weekend's racing, one from Aintree in the Many Clouds Chase and a double from Sandown!

This week the boys dedicate the entire episode to three of the best days of jumps racing in the season, the Cheltenham November Meeting.
Bruno has done some sparkling research to give us a fascinating background on the history of Cheltenham Racecourse and this meeting in particular, following which the key races of the meeting are scrutinised in terms of those which are most likely to produce horses to follow and, crucially , Cheltenham festival winners based on recent history.
The boys also recap on the trends for finding the winner of the Paddy Power Gold Cup (Saturday) and Greatwood Hurdle (Saturday) before finishing with a selection each from the November Meeting.

This week Ben & Bruno discuss the problem with too much racing, in light of last weekend's farcical walkover for Pentland Hills in a novice chase at Huntingdon, and what's being done about it
They then follow up last week's Antepost Angle with a look at the other of the two big Cheltenham November meeting handicaps, the Greatwood Hurdle, won last year by West Cork in the form of a classic Skelton plot job. Will there be another this year or is the winner likely to come from elsewhere? They pick out the key trends for finding previous winners before providing a selection each from the 40 entries.
And lastly, the Tipping Challenge wraps up the episode with a selection each from Saturday, from Aintree as Ben looks to wrestle back the advantage from Bruno!

This week Ben and Bruno discuss this Monday's news of the Jockey Club announcing the Cheltenham Festival, jump racing's flagship event, will remain at four days (at least for now) and not be extended to five as many feared it would. They look at some of the reasons given, the wider reaction and some of the improvements that the Jockey Club might have in mind (or should!) to improve the Festival.
In the first Antepost Angle feature of the new season, the lads look ahead to the Grade 1 King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day. They highlight some of the key ten year trends, leading trainers and the likelihood of Irish travellers before sharing a long range selection each at 16/1 and 40/1!
And lastly, the Tipping Challenge wraps up the episode with a selection each from the Friday and Saturday of this weekend's Showcase Meeting at Cheltenham - one at 11/4 for a trainer that always targets this meeting and another at 7/2 for a very familiar trainer and connections.

After a summer break, Ben and Bruno are back with a brand new season of the Talking Horses Podcast in association with Roudee Racing!
This week Ben and Bruno review horse racing's answer to Drive to Survive in the form of "Horsepower", the new 4 part documentary released on amazon Prime last month that tracks the fortunes of Oisin Murphy and the Andrew Balding yard from late 2020 through to Royal Ascot 2021. They assess whether the programme fits the brief of making racing more accessible to the mass audience.
As it its now the beginning of the jumps season (woohoo!), they also bring you their "Three to follow" for the 2022/23 season including an exciting juvenile and a very well handicapped staying chaser. Hopefully there are plenty of winners to be had between the six selections!
And lastly, the Tipping Challenge returns with Ben and Bruno providing their weekend selection from Market Rasen and Newton Abbott respectively as the smaller UK jumps tracks prepare to welcome some exciting horse as they begin their long and hopefully successful seasons.
