Yet when one looks to possessions for comfort and security and thus places his confidence in what he owns, he sets himself up for disappointment. This chapter begins with the person who gathers and collects much but never can enjoy any of it.

Cult is defined as a devotion directed toward a particular figure or object and a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing. This can include oneself. Many have chosen to look to themselves for the answers to life. This is nothing new. Mankind has sought answers since the beginning of time, but very few have sought them from our creator, God. Therefore, a culture of self-love and self-reliance has increased in our world today. “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, ACT LIKE MEN, be strong.” Paul the Apostle made this proclamation in 1 Corinthians 16:13. The expression “act like men” is translated as “be brave” in many versions of the Bible. Where are the brave men of our time? As our society seeks to feminize men, many have lost their drive to provide for the home and to keep their families in the way of the Lord. Therefore, many young men have lost their faith, and as a result, the faith of others has suffered. We need strong, courageous men in the home and society, but most importantly, in the church. And we need men who will teach the next generation what it means to be men.
