EP70 - Wanting to be a healthy, happy mum - Claire's Weight Loss Success Story

When Claire said she had been worried about being an embarrassment to her son, I could hear the worry in her voice at the prospect of it being true if she hadn't of decided to change her life.

My special guest today found herself rationalising her declining health and weight gain after having a beautiful baby just before lockdown. Take-aways became a regular habit, needing clothes 2 sizes bigger and worsening Asthma meant that Claire had started on a path that was leading her to life of low self confidence and poor health.

Like many of my guests, Claire reached a point where she was concerned for her future and fed up with being overweight. It was impacting her self esteem and ability to do the normal daily activities a young mum would need to be doing.

After phoning her mum for support. Claire discovered Slimming World and attended her first session.

"Being in the group just felt like a nice, big, warm hug." Claire told me, smiling into the microphone as she remembered that first day. From there she went on to lose an incredible 3 stone and reclaimed her heath and self confidence.

Claire shares other areas in which her life has improved including a new found love for fitness. I hear about "Clubbercise" which includes glow sticks, amazing music and dancing your way to a healthier body.

Another major success in Claire's journey has been her decision to help others and become a Slimming World Consultant. In our conversation I hear about the process of Claire taking this step, encouraged by her Consultant Jane because she felt Claire would be a great leader to help others.

You can read more about Claire's journey and see everything she is up to on her Instagram. Click here to follow her account - @claires_losingit.

I'd like to thank Claire for being part of the show and officially becoming a Weight Loss Warrior!

EP69 - Weight Loss Warriror Birthday Special - Part 2 - The story of the WLW Podcast

As part of the celebration for WLW turning 1, in this episode special host Claire is back to help me tell the story of the podcast, from it's initial seed of an idea and through the first 12 months.

I share how I originally felt the urge to start a podcast despite never trying anything like this before, and the steps I took to get started. As some of you may know, I've been extremely fortunate in meeting some amazing people along this journey and I feel grateful for each and every person who has helped and supported the journey.

You will also hear how I struggled at certain stages and even came close to stopping WLW all together. I am very glad I didn't give up and things are now the strongest they have ever been.

I also talk about the next steps for the podcast and my plans for the next 12 months. I am currently in the stages of studying to be a fully accredited coach and am already working with a small number of clients. My aim is to focus on this alongside the podcast to bring as much help and success to the WLW Tribe as possible.

Thanks again to Claire for being an awesome host, and thanks to you for being part of the first amazing year.

EP68 - Celebrating 1 Year of the WLW Podcast - My Journey

Today is a big day and one I am proud to celebrate. It's exactly 1 year since the podcast went live and I thought to mark the occasion I would share my own story.

Since becoming a teenager I have struggled with being overweight and still battle elements that so many of my guests have shared in previous episodes. I wanted you all to know that I too face similar challenges and that I have my own story to tell.

I won't lie, I feel a little self absorbed and egocentric being the guest of my own show. The idea of this platform is that people share their success, and I ask the questions. However I am asked from time to time how people can learn more about me so decided to battle my imposter syndrome, face the fear and do it anyway!

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this amazing journey during the first year. You can read a more detailed reflection on the WLW Website by clicking here

This episode was also recorded and shared on Youtube so feel free to watch the full episode by clicking here

I'd also like to take the opportunity to encourage each of you to join us and become part of the growing WLW Tribe community on Facebook

There are some amazing people who share their story and support each other. I truly believe this journey is easier when you are surrounded by people encouraging you and who most importantly understand the challenges you face.

Thanks again and let's see where we can take the podcast in year 2!

Today I welcome Sophie Steele to the show to talk about her success and transformation in pretty much area of her life. It's a powerful message to anyone who feels stuck or that change for the better is impossible.

Sophie found herself in the position of having no self confidence, turning to alcohol to cope with social events and with a poor level of health. A spiral of circumstances had left Sophie feeling like she didn't even recognise the person she had become and knew that change had to happen.

Despite failed attempts to lose weight over the years, Sophie explains how something in her mindset shifted and gave her the glimmer of hope she needed in the beginning. From there the momentum began and positive changes started to appear. Sophie explains how with weight loss her confidence increased and how much better she felt for it.

Without spoiling the surprise, Sophie is now embarking on a journey that she admits wouldn't have been possible or even something she would have considered before her transformation, but is excited to begin helping others who are currently in the situation she found herself in a few years ago.

Sophie has documented her full story from day 1 on her Instagram and she shares a real account of daily life without sugar coating it. Click here to follow her. EP66 - Catching up with previous Weight Loss Warrior Emma Luckman

Please note that this was originally recorded as a Video Podcast Episode, and you may notice a small difference in sound quality.

FULL VIDEO EPISODE AVAILABLE HERE ON YOUTUBE:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZ_sBCIjMNs

Back in April, I made a promise to pop round and visit Episode 50's special guest Emma who lives in my hometown of Braintree, Essex. Well, true to our word, we met for a cuppa and a chat to find out everything Emma has been doing over the last few months.

It was amazing to hear about Emma becoming a brand ambassador for TWO different businesses, along with a new focus of becoming a Personal Trainer in the future.

We shared many laughs, but on reflection I realised just how much important and helpful advice Emma shared during our conversation.

Check out Emma's original episode sharing her full weight loss journey:

EP65: How opting for a Fitness and Sobriety Lifestyle changed Jake's life

Today I welcome Jake, a charming gentleman from just outside Newcastle to share his story of transformation.

Jake and I first spoke at the start of the year and he explained to me he was on mission to lose weight and get healthy. We agreed there and then that when he was happy with the changes made and his progress, he would be a guest on the show.

Well, he did exactly that and recently contacted me to share his amazing progress and achievement. I could sense his level of pride in reaching his objective and I couldn't wait to make him an official Weight Loss Warrior.

During the episode we discuss the changes that Jake made, combining different elements from previous failed attempts at maintaining a healthier lifestyle. The key difference here has been that Jake was setting his sights on a long term and sustainable way of living, realising that fad diets and being too restrictive wouldn't last.

Something I loved speaking about was the decision Jake made more recently to stop drinking alcohol. He shares his apprehension of doing this and why he felt it was important as part of his journey. I found that his experience is extremely common among many of us and am sure it will resinate with many listeners.

Jake offered to answer any questions and would love you to follow his journey on Instagram. His account name is @jake_f_s_l

Also, you can find Jake and many other Weight Loss Warriors who have appeared on the podcast in our WLW Tribe community on Facebook. It's a free group created to help each other, get advice and meet likeminded people. Click here to become part of the conversation now

EP 64: How to reach your goal and maintain it - Jo's story

For many, the act of losing weight is actually the biggest challenge but instead knowing how to stay at the weight that makes you feel happiest and healthy.

My special guest today is Jo from Lakenheath and she has not only lost more than 3.5 Stone, but maintained her goal for 2 years.

I hear how Jo had found herself feeling disheartened and unhappy with her weight after many months of not paying close enough attention to her health. Like so many of us, life circumstances that occur created a lifestyle that didn't serve Jo and resulted in a significant weight gain.

Once her mind was made up to make some important changes in her life, Jo set about losing weight and reached her goal in August 2021. We discuss how Jo has been able to find a balanced life and set mini goals to allow herself to keep focused on the weight she feels best at without the constant feeling of being on a diet and the tricks she uses to stay in control.

Jo is actually fairly new to Instagram, creating her account to offer support to others and show them her journey to provide help. You can click here to follow her - @jojo_myjourney

EP63: How Jonathan lost 21 stone and saved his life

At his heaviest, Jonathan Hodgson from Barnsley weighed 40 Stone. He joins me today having lost an incredible 21 stone to share his incredible journey.

What's special about this story is that it started by accident. Jonathan had written and deleted messages to a personal trainer multiple times, not able to find the courage to take that first step. Eventually, fate took control and a message reached his now coach and friend by complete accident.

I hear how Jonathan created a persona of being the "big lad" and used this to make himself and those around him more comfortable, but on the inside he was living a life of embarassment, low confidence and a loss of hope for something better in his life.

Being completely honest and when looking back at his situation, Jonathan admits that had he not have taken action when he did, he might not be here today.

Luckily, and due to the twist of fate in sending a message to Pete at @barnsleybarbell - a journey that would quite literally save Jonathan's life from food addiction started.

We talk about how it can be hard as a man to admit that you need help regarding weight loss and Jonathan and his coach are taking amazing steps to bring more awareness to this and encourage more men who want to lose weight to get started.

On September 22 2023, they are hosting a live event in which Jonathan will share his story in full detail, along with a special Q&A and his coach sharing an important insight to how it's not too late to change your life.

If you are interested in this event, click here to get full details.

The WLW podcast is all about inviting real people to share their journey of self discovery and success. I love how Jonathan himself is a more "traditional" type of person, and so it was interesting to hear how his views about topics such as depression and mindset have changed during his journey.

A special thanks to the "barnsley bomber" (Look out Tyson Fury) for sharing his special story and becoming our latest Weight Loss Warrior!

EP62: How Johdi lost over 75lbs and started saying YES to new experiences

My special guest today is Johdi from a beautiful part of the UK, Ribble Valley near Burnley.

Johdi has lost an amazing 5.5 Stone (77lbs) during her weight loss journey and joins me to share how much happier she is for making the decision to transform her life.

I know it can sound dramatic when we talk about "life changing" weight loss, but when you hear all the positive changes that come as a result of losing weight, you start to realise just how much better your quality of life can become.

For Johdi, she explains how she now has the confidence to try new experiences and I love how she almost laughed in disbelief of herself when talking about going for a 10k run.

I think when we find ourselves in a difficult situation and feel unhappy, it's so easy to begin to believe there is nothing better waiting for us and we should just accept our fate and struggle through life.

When listening to this episode, you will hear how Johdi refused to accept that as her reality and how important it was to her to make positive changes to become a fitter and healthier mum for her son.

Make sure you check Johdi's Intagram and follow her. Her account has a lot of really delicious meal ideas and you can see photos of her latest Magazine feature!

Thanks Johdi for being our latest Weight Loss Warrior!

Also don't forget you can join our Facebook community "Weight Loss Warrior Tribe" where Johdi, other Weight Loss Warriors and a growing community of amazing people on their own weight loss journey come together to support each other.

EP61: How Sarah lost 19 stone (266 lbs) and her journey to maintain a healthy weight

My special guest today has proved that weight loss plans can work, if you follow their plan.

Having experienced success during her journey of losing 19 stone with Slimming World, Weight Watchers and Calorie Counting I have the pleasure of hearing how and why Sarah switched it up along with the pros and cons of each.

After I finished our interview, I stopped and let it sink in just what an incredible achievement this was. I will be the first to admit that losing even a few pounds after a holiday can require determination and discipline, so to turn up for yourself week after week, month after month to lose 19 stone is simply incredible.

Sarah shares the emotion of being able to buy clothes in high street shop for the first time and some other amazing changes she has experienced as part of becoming slimmer. We talk about confidence, health and how now Sarah feels she can live her life to the max.

I also learn how Sarah has used a powerful shift in her own mindset to overcome emotional eating when a situation or person upsets her. I think it's a really powerful way to use the negative emotion to drive a positive result so urge you to try it if you find yourself in a similar situation

I caught up with Sarah at a moment in her journey where she is just starting out with a Coach to help her adjust to her new life and maintain her weight loss. We talk about how after hitting her lowest weight, a lack of consistency led to regaining some back. This is something I believe so many people have an experience of and I feel it can often be related to not having that next objective, or perhaps even after so long of restricting yourself at some level, allowing that release of pressure.

Sarah shares her story and lifestyle on both Instagram and Youtube, make sure you find out how she's getting on:

EP60: 8 stone weight loss, managing PCOS and a few surprises along the way - Kayleigh's journey

PLEASE BE AWARE: On this episode, we discuss the pain of miscarriage and I realise for some this could be upsetting. There are happy endings to this story but I'd like to give you the opportunity to decide in case this is something you may not want to listen to.

There is literally so much to Kayleigh's journey it won't fit into a single episode title. In fact, we barely had time to cover everything during our conversation so I imagine this could even be the first of a two part success story.

I absolutely loved talking to Kayleigh and hearing her journey.

Having been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome at 19 years of age, Kayleigh had to manage the upset and pain of perhaps never having children. She describes how it completely rocked her view on the world and was another thing added to the sadness caused by being overweight, something she that had been a problem for her since childhood.

During the episode Kayleigh shares how she found solace in her work and also lost weight due to how active she was.

I don't want to give too much away as I feel Kayleigh tells her story much better than I could try to in a few sentences, but I will say that throughout the whole conversation I felt drawn to Kayleigh's resilience and strength, even at what could be considered the lowest points of her life on some occasions.

As a result of her strength and determination not to give up, Kayleigh joins me more than 8 Stone down as part of her journey and is now a Slimming World Consultant herself.

She dedicates her time to helping others transform their lives and does so from a place of experience and compassion, being able to identify with every member and wanting to see them succeed.

Make sure you visit Kayleigh's Instagram by clicking here. Her account name is @klee_slimmingworld88

I won't lie, this was an emotional episode and even more so because Kayleigh shared parts of her story that resonated with me. The fact she is willing to talk about these topics openly as a way to help others is absolutely amazing and I have a lot of admiration for her.

Thanks to Kayleigh for becoming a Weight Loss Warrior.

EP59: Mark's amazing journey to losing 10 stone

Today I welcome Mark to the podcast to share his amazing story of weight loss. I hear how how severe illness prompted him to make serious changes to focus on his health and the success that decision has led to.

Mark is a dad to his young daughter Harriet and during the episode we talk about how much of a motivation she has been for him. Although we almost joke about during the show, things like being able to navigate a soft play park if you're needed, or fitting down the slide to be able to enjoy special moments together are key memories as part of being a parent you should look forward to making together.

The reality for someone struggling to manage their weight is that soft play, along with so many other day-to-day tasks can be difficult, if not impossible. This can really hurt as a parent and lead to a multitude of emotions from guilt, to shame, to a feeling of letting your child down.

With this in mind and a period of being extremely unwell and in hospital, Mark decided enough was enough and took action. He joined his local Slimming World group and began losing weight.

We join Mark as he approaches his target of losing 10 stone and it's amazing to hear how much his life has changed thanks to the effort he has made. Mark is on Instagram: @mark_gets_thin and I'd love that you join me in celebrating his achievement!

I hope you enjoy the episode and would love that you join Mark, myself and the rest of the Weight Loss Warrior Tribe in our free Facebook group. EP58: Yael Hayes - Journey of a CrossFit Superstar

I absolutely love being able to share a success story in which my special guest comes from a place of living an unhealthy lifestyle and transforms themselves into something amazing.

Today's Weight Loss Warrior is Yael Hayes and someone who lives an incredible life of travel, self discovery and fitness. We first connected via Instagram last year and I was instantly drawn to Yael's energy and the message she shares. It's one of encouragement, positivity and progression and this resonates in every post, story and reel.

Thing's have not always been this way for Yael and she shares how she realised she had not been taking care of her health, weighing far more she felt happy with and not nourishing her body in a way that served her well. I hear how a moment of self realisation triggered a number of small but meaningful changes in her lifestyle, building momentum and the begginings of an incredible journey.

Yael's curiousity was piqued as she began learning about nutrition and the way in which food impacts our body. This, combined with a newfound love of CrossFit fused to form a new lifestyle focused on good health, losing weight and becoming a better version of her former self.

Jumping to the present, Yael is a fully qualified CrossFit Instructor and trains people in beautiful locations such as Thailand and Bali. It's easy to see that she gets a true sense of reward and self worth in helping others learn to take care of themselves in the same way she discovered, and her Instagram feed is full of amazing moments shared with friends and athletes.

If all of this hasn't been enough, Yael is also is about to publish her first book! Its focused on 4 vital areas that must be worked on in order to lead a healthy life and has been created as a playbook to progress in your life. It sounds absolutely incredible and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy as soon as it's available. Don't worry, I'll also have a few copies for my Weight Loss Warrior Tribe also ;)

A special thank you to Yael for sharing her time with me and her effortless charisma that has such a positive impact on anyone who meets her. Make sure you follow her on Instagram and get details of her training, new book and everything else she is doing!

Claire also became a big fan of the fitness workouts on the Courtney Black App. She was able to follow workouts, get nutrition advice and even meal plans. EP56: How self care and weight loss completely changed Therese's life

Follow the Weight Loss Warrior Podcast on your favourite listening app to never miss a new episode! Visit Weight Loss Warrior now and become part of our tribe!

Today's special guest on the WLW podcast has an energy that you cannot help but feel drawn to. Therese O'Callaghan may only be 21 but has an awareness on the importance of a positive mindset that most aspire to achieve with years of self development.

It wasn't or hasn't always been like that though, which makes this episode so special. Therese shares how she developed binge eating, secret eating, unhealthy amounts of drinking alcohol and other mental and physical traits that were damaging her mind and body.

Therese was battling with low self esteem, a lack of confidence and unable to enjoy life or feel comfortable with herself. In this episode she talks about the shattering impact this had on her life and why it was so important for her to change.

The amazing news and why this episode will inspire you so much is that Therese took action and control of her life, and started to turn things around.

Now, nearly two years into her journey Therese talks openly about her mindset, her amazing weight loss, change of eating habits and her new found love for lifting weights.

Hearing Therese share the challenges she has faced and overcome left me both full of admiration and also a feeling that I was listening to a young woman who literally saved her own life. At such a young age, Therese has made changes that will serve her through her adult life and provide an opportunity to make the most of every day.

Knowing how many people go through their 20s, 30s, even 40s before making that decision to take action, I strongly believe the message Therese shares will help inspire thousands of other teenagers and young adults to make positive changes in their lives instead of letting life pass them by.

I am extremely grateful to Therese for sharing her journey with me and encourage every single one of my listeners to follow her on Instagram and Tik Tok. Her personality and presence will make you smile, feel inspired and want to take positive steps forward in your own life.

EP55: Simon's Weight Loss journey - How he became the slimmest and healthiest version of himself

Today I welcome Simon Asquith to share his story of losing over 9 stone and how he has created habits that allow him to keep his weight in check and be at the lowest weight of his adult life.

We often talk about how journeys are rarely linear, and this is no exception. One of the things I enjoyed immensely when hearing Simon's journey was that it is real. He is completely transparent about the everyday challenges that can lead to regaining weight, how he has struggled in certain areas and why it has been so important to form healthier habits.

Simon tells me how seeing himself at his heaviest in a photo shared on Facebook gave him the motivation to make a change and how having a friend wanting to lose weight gave him the courage start his journey.

Whilst every single episode on the WLW podcast is inspiring for different reasons, it was really great to have a man on the podcast sharing his own take on weight loss and how talking about it can still be difficult in what is commonly accepted as a more female focused industry.

Since starting his journey, Simon has become a consultant for the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, supporting others to lose weight with the same method he followed.

To find out more about Simon, his journey or how you can get more details about his role as a consultant, see the following links:

EP54: Alice has lost over 85lbs - How veganism, therapy and stopping drinking has helped!

I am really excited to introduce our latest weight loss warrior Alice, a full time student from Cheshire, UK.

Alice has lost an incredible amount of weight following the Slimming World plan and shares her amazing journey with me.

I learn how being bullied as a child for being overweight contributed to very low self esteem & resulting in an unhealthy relationship with food. I often learn how binge eating and emotional eating stem from childhood trauma such as bullying and this was no different for Alice.

It was amazing to hear how Alice started therapy to help improve her mindset and mental health to empower her as part of this inspiring weight loss success story. She shares some great advice to anyone who has maybe considered getting support but has concerns.

Alice is also a vegan and we discuss how the rise of processed vegan meals and foods creates a new challenge with managing weight. To be honest I had quite a narrow minded view that vegan eating was very restrictive but having spent time looking at the amazing meals Alice makes and shares on her Instagram, I've realised this is not the case. Make sure you take a look >> Follow Alice - @slimmingally

Throughout her journey Alice has proved to herself that she has all the willpower and determination to acheive her goals, and gives some amazing advice about why smaller goals are so powerful.

Thanks to Alison for being our latest Weight Loss Warrior!

Today I welcome our newest Weight Loss Warrior Sascha Ross to share her inspiring story and how she has lost over 6 Stone with Slimming World.

Sascha has recently appeared on the front cover of the May/June edition of Slimming World's magazine and if that wasn't enough, she has become a consultant in order to help others succeed in their weight loss journey.

It was amazing to hear how confidence, taking action and being comfortable to pursue opportunities has bloomed as a result of Sascha's decision to lose weight. She shares inspiring advice on how setting small goals helped her and why it was important to find balance as part of her journey.

Make sure you follow Sascha's journey and her path to becoming a SW consultant on her Instagram account, it's one of the most positive, upbeat and motivating accounts I have in my list of followers and love to see her updates. EP52: Powerful advice and motivation from previous Weight Loss Warriors

Today I am mixing things up a little and want to share something that as part of my own journey has been really helpful for me.

It's no secret that I have faced certain struggles recently and it dawned upon me that I have a so much great advice and ideas in every single episode of the WLW Podcast, perhaps I should use it to help inspire and motivate me.

Today I am sharing some of the pieces of advice that are currently helping me and I feel may be of value to many others who are on a journey.

Have a listen, I hope you enjoy them and we will return to the normal format of sharing an amazing weight loss success story on the very next episode!

EP51: Hollie's Journey with the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan

Today I welcome Hollie, a teacher and mum from Cheshire who has lost an incredible 5.5 Stone following the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan.

In this episode we explore this method of weight loss and I was pleased to learn more considering this is only the 2nd Weight Loss Warrior on the podcast having followed this plan.

We talk about how Hollie's weight has fluctuated throughout her life, from being described as a "chubby" child to battling with body dysmorphia as she reached her lowest ever weight in her early 20s.

Sadly, a traumatic event triggered the start of Hollie's weight gain which caused her to lose control as she turned to comfort eating in order to manage her emotions. I listen to how post natal depression and grief left Hollie unable to recognise the person she was during this extremely difficult time in her life.

Hollie regained control when she began the 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan and in just 6 short months was able to lose so much weight.

Find out how this amazing change has helped Hollie and the difference it is making to her life now as she maintains her ideal weight.

EP50: How weight loss surgery helped Emma go from existing, to living.

Today I am delighted to share an episode with someone from my home town!! Not only that but this being episode 50 is somewhat of a milestone and big acheivement for the podcast!

In this interview you will have the pleasure of meeting Emma from Essex. Emma underwent surgery to help her lose weight and shares her journey in an extremely honest and open way. I am full of appreciation to her for being so transparent about the struggles she had faced and the process of having weight loss surgery.

This epsiode is so relatable on many levels, talking about the emotional trauma faced with being obese and how hard it can be both mentally and physically.

Emma's situation could not be more different now in comparison and she lives for the gym as part of her healthier lifestyle. It's inspiring to see how so many things can be done that we may feel are unreachable as a heavier person, if you just give yourself the chance to progress.

I enjoyed chatting to Emma immensely and it truly felt like sitting down with an old friend over a cuppa. Thank you so much to Emma for sharing her story and I encourage every single person to go follow her on Instagram, which incidently has one of the coolest account names I have seen: @adiosflabious

EP49: 200lbs of weight loss - Stephanie's amazing journey

My special guest today has achieved something incredible.

Not only has Stephanie transformed her life by losing 200lbs, her life has taken a completely different direction since discovering a love for fitness and working out.

Before starting her journey, I asked Stephanie if she had ever imagined lifting weights or being a Zumba instructor and the answer was a resounding "No". For me, this was one of the many inspiring moments of our conversation in realising you literally can change your whole life by taking control of aspects that are making you unhappy or unhealthy.

Stephanie explains how she had to be willing to admit to herself that her health was poor and something needed to change. I think this is true of all of us. Only we can do it, and all the support and love we get from our friends and family is important however the change has to come from within us.

I'd love for you to go and visit Stephanie's Instagram. As I said, she is now dedicated to her love of fitness and shares a lot on her account about her amazing lifestyle and how she has transformed. >>> @thenextironsteph

EP48: Amy's life changing 175lb weight loss story

Today I am joined by Amy from Merseyside who has lost 12.5 stone (175 lbs) after realising she was missing out on being able to do all the things she wanted to as a young mum.

Often, it can take a harsh reality check to realise just how bad our health or situation has become. Weight gain tends to happen over time, and we find ways to adjust and cope with the increasing level of difficulty of doing every day tasks like walking up the stairs. In this episode Amy shares how humiliation and the feeling of letting her daughter down at a theme park inspired her to make a change.

Amy explains how she took that first step to join Slimming World after a number of months of declining offers to go with a friend. Finally she changed her mind and hasn't looked back since.

In this weight loss success story, I found the level of discipline that Amy developed incredible and massively inspiring. To lose 12.5 took time and perserverance, but she didn't give up and now leads a life that was once thought of being impossible to have.

EP47: Why bariatric surgery was the right choice for Shea

Today's special guest is Shea Quinn who joins me to talk about her weight loss journey and to help me understand more about bariatric surgery.

Shea is bright, radiates enthusiasm and is someone who is a lot of fun to be around. I felt that in the short time we spoke and when you listen to her story, am sure you too will feel her energy too.

For some, bariatric surgery is a drastic measure to lose weight and it was great to understand the motivation for Shea taking this approach and the reasons behind her decision. I learned that sometimes despite making the best possible effort to lose weight, our bodies create obstacles to prevent us reaching our goal. For Shea, having PCOS created complications and surgery has radically changed her overall health.

I want to thank Shea for offering a balanced and extremely interesting insight to the process of having weight loss surgery, including both the highs and the lows during her journey. We talk about how she improved her mental health and embarked on a path of self discovery as well as the physical changes and improved health she has enjoyed.

Shea is a content creator and podcast host, sharing her journey to help inspire and educate others. Make sure you take a look at her accounts to learn more about her journey and where it leads.

Today I am extremely pleased and proud to introduce Sarah Wynter, national award winner of Miss Slinky 2023, presented by Slimming World for her amazing achievement of weight loss.

In this episode, you will hear how a "normal" mum made the decision to change her life after years of not feeling happy with being overweight. Sarah talks to me about the emotional and physical struggles she faced as part of her daily life and job working in a Intensive Care Unit of a busy hospital.

You can hear the difference in Sarah's voice between looking back at some of the more difficult moments before losing weight and her new life having commited to the Slimming World plan and losing almost 7 stone as part of her journey.

As well as being a national award winner, beating over 10,000 other worthy applicants, Sarah has also now appeared on the front cover of the latest Slimming World magazine and I hear how surreal it has been for her to receive photos from friends and family all over the UK who have spotted her on the shelves of their local shops.

Although Sarah is a warm, remarkable person with a kind heart who has acheived something incredible, she is the first to say she is just a normal person and that anyone can do this if they put their mind to it. Sarah shares some great advice and offers a lot of inspiration to anyone on a journey of transformation.

You can find out more about Sarah's journey by visiting her Instagram

A big thank you to Sarah, Miss Slinky 2023 and Slimming World covergirl - it was a true pleasure to meet you!

EP45: How Weight Watchers helped Max with mental & physical health

Please note in this episode we touch on mental health topics and thoughts of suicide.

Today I welcome Maxine to the show to talk about her weight loss and transformation with Weight Watchers, or WW as it's also known.

Max Joined WW back in 2017 after struggling with both physical and mental health. She talks about how sight seeing and holidays with the family exposed her declining level of fitness. Realising her parents were in better shape than her, Max decided to take action.

The journey of losing weight wasn't actually too dificult for Max and the benefits were a great source of motivation to keep going.

During our chat, we talk about how Covid interrupted the momentum Max had created with her training and fitness goals and despite making great progress, it was a difficult time to navigate through as we hear of so many people.

As a Weight Watchers Ambassador, Max is a strong adovcate of the plan and recommends it to anyone looking to find balance and a healthier lifestyle. If you have any questions or would like to see more about following a WW lifestyle, Max's Instagram account is a great source of motivation and information. She is also a great chef!

About the Episode

On this episode, I talk to a young mum who became extremely unhappy with the way she looked and felt. I discover how her decision to lose weight sparked a chain of events that empowered Evie to take control of her life and make a number of brave decisions.

It was great to hear Evie talk about just how much difference her weight loss journey has made to the life she has now. It reminded me how consuming of our energy, thoughts and happiness it can be when we feel unhappy with our weight.

In Evie's case, this wasn't the first weight loss journey however there was something different about her mindset this time and it has lead to great results.

During her transformation, Evie has lost over 5 stone (70lbs) and shares how much better her life is for it. We discuss health, confidence and self esteem and gain an insight to the way in which Evie acheived her success.

EP43: How sometimes small changes can have the biggest impact - Cath's Story

My special guest today is Cath from London. We talk about her amazing journey and how sometimes small changes can make the biggest difference to our lives.

I've actually been in touch with Cath for a few months now. She has been a great supporter of the podcast since the early days, listening to our inspiring guests while working out in the gym.

Cath has lost over 2 stone as part of her journey, and when I asked if she would be interested to join me for an episode and share her story, I was met with "I haven't lost THAT much"...

Now, this was interesting for me because being a Weight Loss Warrior is a very individual and personal experience. For some, that journey could be losing over 100lbs, for others just 8lbs...The most important thing to remember is that every single person losing weight is making a change to become healthier and happier, but it's absolutely fine to have different starting points and goals. Ultimately it's striving towards that goal and being determined to reach it that makes you a true Warrior in every sense.

In this episode, Cath shares how she made the decision to lose weight and the steps she took to ensure she was set up to succeed. We look at how for some people that first group session can be daunting, but in this case how Cath was so laser focused on losing weight that she approached the challenge with a positive and determined attitude.

Cath is extremely inspiring and her enthusiasm will be a great motivation for many who listen to our chat. If you want to follow her journey and get to know her better, she has both Instagram and a Youtube channel:

About the Episode

Today I am pleased to welcome Ashley to the podcast, a busy mum of three from New Jersey.

Over the years, Ashley had struggled with her weight and suffered challenges with both being overweight, and also dangerously thin. We discuss how the unhealthy relationship with managing her weight created a number of issues and made day to day activities difficult.

Ashley was a self-confessed yo yo dieter before addressing some of the underlying issues concerning weight management and finding a method that worked for Ashley, we hear how food was at the forefront of her mind and interfered with her happiness.

We also talk about the impact of pregnancy and post partum weight loss, where Ashley shares her journey through some of the most difficult moments one could ever expect to experience.

I found this episode especially inspiring as Ashley shares how she turned to therapy in order to improve her mental health, and the amazing knock-on effect it had on other areas of her life, including weight loss.

Ashley was able to find a successful weight management plan and uses WW to progress through her weight loss journey after having her third child. About the Episode

My special guest today is someone who has a special energy and heart of gold. A midwife, weight loss consultant and a person who radiates a feeling of positivity and optimism.

Although for Abby, it has not always been this way. At only 23, she has already accomplished so much in terms of her approach to tackling life and creating the best for herself. Today Abby shares her journey that took her from a very low point in her life through to today where she is in many ways a different person.

Abby explains that she has had an issue with her weight for a number of years, but when starting university to become a midwife Abby became more self conscious and self aware. In addition to that, in a short space of time Abby also gained more weight leaving her feeling insecure, unhappy, and extremely self-conscious. It began to impact her social life and became a source of anxiety and unhappiness for her.

After taking a decision to join Slimming World and managing to build the courage to take that first step of walking through the door of her first session, this is when the amazing changes began for Abby.

After setting a target to lose 3 stone (42 lbs/19kg) Abby was able to lose 5lbs in her very first week by following the plan correctly. This came as an amazing shock, spurring her on to keep going and within 1 month had already lost a third of the weight she wanted to.

Listen to the amazing journey that Abby embarked on and how this has had such a positive impact in shaping the life she has today.

When people talk about weight loss being life changing, I think today’s episode is a great example of what can be possible with a small amount of self-belief and courage to start your own weight loss transformation.

About the Episode

For so many people, circumstances in our daily life can lead to us not prioritising our own health or happiness. This was the case for Tiniera and between studying, being a parent, a wife and everything else that can happen, she found herself depressed and weighing far more than she ever had.

Tiniera has a military background so had led a demanding lifestyle but with no fitness concerns. This was a stark reminder that things can change, and quickly too in some cases. Our health is not guaranteed and requires constant nurturing to thrive.

Having tried various methods of weight loss, Tiniera found the formula that worked for her and incorporated it into her lifestyle once the decision to become healthier was made. In the episode she discusses the different attempts to lose weight and how once discovering what worked well for her, she was able to steadily lose weight.

Today's episode:

As you may know, I am a strong believer that in order to achieve a sustainable transformation into a healthier and happier lifestyle, your mental health is as equally important as losing weight. I don’t feel one can exist without the other being taken care of.

Today I welcome Laura to the show and am extremely grateful to her for sharing her story. It’s a stark reminder of how hard life can become when we are unhappy, and the impact it can have in every aspect of our being.

Laura talks about the steps she took to being getting help when she hit rock bottom. I won’t lie, it’s not nice to think about how someone has suffered to this extent however unfortunately this is a reality so many people are currently living through.

My hope is that by listening to how Laura has completely turned her life around, it can inspire others to do the same. She shares some amazing advice and explains how the perception of herself has changed as therapy and weight loss transformed her life.

EP35: Amazing results don’t need to come from drastic changes.

Kirsty’s success story First of all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! I hope 2023 is safe, fun and full of success for you and your families.

I’m excited to kick 2023 off with an awesome episode featuring Kirsty, a Scot based in Canada.

Kirsty talks to me about how she made small changes to her daily lifestyle that have helped her achieve over 70lbs in weight loss since her journey began. It’s a great reminder that you don’t have to change everything at once, and how that can even prevent you from long term success. Instead, find manageable targets, break down the bigger goal into smaller objectives and take one step at a time.

I’m really grateful for the advice Kirsty shares from the things she learned as part of her weight loss and a big thanks to her for sharing that with the WLW community.

Charlie is 26 and lives just outside of Nottingham with his fiancé Liv. He is a huge football fan and works in an inspiring role in which he encourages young people to volunteer.

EP32: Weight Loss success while managing Type 1 Diabetes

Today’s special guest is Lauren from South Wales. She talks to me today about her journey of weight loss, living with diabetes and how this journey has been as important for her mental health as physical.

Like so many, Lauren found the motivation to lose weight after a tragedy in her life. As a way to focus on something other than her grief, she joined Slimming World as a distraction. However very quickly Lauren realised that there were many benefits to her losing weight, and began to enjoy them as part of her daily lifestyle.

In this episode Lauren also shares how having Type 1 diabetes impacts her diet and the ways in which she is able to both control her weight and benefit from combining calorie counting as part of her SW journey.

EP31: Choosing to face fear and the amazing benefits it can have

Inga’s story Imagine facing not one but multiple difficult, traumatic events happening in quick succession at a young age. You would forgive anyone for being defeated, both emotionally and physically with no desire to be optimistic for their future.

Today’s guest is Inga, and I felt inspired and privileged to hear how despite being faced with various life changing moments, she has chosen positivity and now attacks life with a hunger to face her fears and get the most out of every day.

Although weight loss is a big part of Inga’s journey, this is not the only factor that makes her todays Warrior.

Inga changed her mindset and used her experiences to start leading a life of adventure and fulfilling experiences, purposely doing the things that scared her most and creating a career of helping others using her own journey as a method of showing empathy to others.

For me this was a reminder that quite often we might feel ready to give up, but shouldn’t. We might feel like we just can’t do it, but in fact we are probably much closer than we think. It’s worth that extra try.

Announcement - Sign up to our first ever Live Virtual Event – “Overcoming Food Guilt during the holidays.”

On December 12th, We will be joined by the amazing nutrition and weight loss coach Angie Olsen to understand why we are impacted by food guilt. Angie will also be sharing some great resources & tips to help stay in control and overcome the negative feelings food guilt can cause.

To reserve you place for this workshop and Q&A, click here now to sign up. It’s 100% free but there are limited places.

About the episode:

My special guest today is Nikki and she joins me from The Windy City, Chicago! Nikki shares how she managed to balance running a cookie business as well as lose over 50lbs in 5 months.

As a child and teenager Nikki was very active playing a lot of sport, but at the same time developed a binge eating disorder and remembers having concerns and ideas about food that looking back were not in line with a healthy lifestyle.

It was when Nikki reached the end of her studies and stopped playing volleyball combined with working in a bakery that she noticed the weight gain starting. In addition to this, Nikki had started her own cookie business which as we discuss in the episode, offered a new set of challenges and temptations.

As a result, over the next 2 years Nikki gained over 50 lbs before making the decision to lose weight.

In this episode I learn how the online version of WW (formerly Weight Watchers) gave Nikki the ability to learn more about her current eating habits and how to make small changes that were beneficial. It also allowed her to continue eating the food she enjoyed.

The amazing success Nikki experienced in losing over 50lbs in 5 months inspired her to start sharing her journey on Youtube where she has since grown a thriving community and inspires people on their own journey.

Make sure you visit Nikki on both her Instagram and Youtube channel:

EP28: How focusing on mental health can be the key to sustainable weight loss

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Sign up to our first ever Live Virtual Event – “Overcoming Food Guilt during the holidays.”

On December 7th, We will be joined by the amazing nutrition and weight loss coach Angie Olsen to understand why we are impacted by food guilt. Angie will also be sharing some great resources & tips to help stay in control and overcome the negative feelings food guilt can cause.

To reserve you place for this workshop and Q&A, click here now to sign up. It’s 100% free but there are limited places.

Our special guest today is Claire and she talks to me about how comfort eating became a coping mechanism after suffering mental trauma.

Something that strikes me about this conversation is that we are often placed in situations and environments that are detrimental to our mental health. If we are not equipped with the correct methods to cope and manage high pressure or stressful conditions, our body goes into survival mode and this in itself can create behaviours that we didn’t realise could impact us.

Claire does an amazing job of explaining how PTSD had engulfed all parts of her daily life and had a negative effect on both physical and mental health. She shares how she has been able to begin the road to recovery and show a true fighting spirit in finding a more balanced life and better health.

This episode is a strong reminder to all that being a Weight Loss “Warrior” is so much more than a number on the scales or a total amount of lbs lost. The journey of transformation towards a happier and healthier life requires us to work on ourselves in many ways. We often think that by losing X amount of lbs, we will instantly be happy however we also need to focus on mental health and emotional health too.

A big thank you to Claire for talking openly about her experience and bringing focus to some important topics that we should feel more able to discuss without fear.

EP27: Hear how Lucy has lost over 3 stone and started her own business!

IMPORTANT: Sign up to our first ever Live Virtual Event – “Overcoming Food Guilt during the holidays.”

About the episode: Having suffered with body dysmorphia from a young age, Lucy’s weight had been dangerously low throughout her teenage years. Unfortunately, when Lucy started working the freedom of adulthood led to self sabotage and during the next 7 years went on to gain over 100lbs.

During our conversation I hear how difficult emotional times contributed to Lucy’s journey, often creating a loss of self confidence and low self esteem. Lucy discovered the “One 2 One” diet and during her time studying to become a teacher, lost a considerable amount of weight. She shares how this led to a feeling of being accepted, despite knowing deep down it was her personality that people liked her for.

Then, as is the same for so many of us, “life” got in the way and Lucy gained the weight she had lost and more.

This episode has been recorded around 4 months into Lucy’s new journey and I discover how this time it has led to her not only losing an amazing amount of weight but how she know has her own business as a consultant and is helping others.

When listening, I was reminded me how many people like Lucy are currently there, overcoming a battle that goes beyond simple weight loss. We all have circumstances that either contributed to the desire to lose weight, or that continue to create obstacles in us reaching our goal. The key thing here is to keep going. Recognise the many, many positive things about you and how you contribute to the lives of so many around you in a meaningful way.

Lucy has a great Instagram account and I love how honest she is. There is no sugar coating. The wins are genuine and glow with pride, the challenges are raw and will be extremely relatable to many of you listening.

About the episode:

At a young age, Laura began trying any quick fix she saw or heard about in order to try and lose weight. She found her weight would yo yo and felt unable to find a long-term solution.

Over the next few years, Laura went on to have 3 children and found herself looking for a sustainable lifestyle to feel healthier and regain control. We discuss some of the weird and ineffective weight loss methods being used and marketed that misguide people who are looking for the quickest way to lose weight.

Laura explains how turning 30 was a turning point for her, describing the constant losing and gaining weight “exhausting”. You can listen to the advice Laura gives including why focusing on short term decisions provide a greater opportunity rather than feeling intimidated by the long-term objective.

Laura started by looking at self-sabotage and how to make small changes in order to improve. She explains how limiting herself to biscuits with a cup of tea was something she introduced that was helpful. One of the key conversations in this episode is related to mindset and how by simply changing our perception of certain situations, we can not only feel better about ourself, but get better results too! Laura found that despite not being a fan of exercise, by making small changes to the foods she eats and being aware of things like drinking more water was able to see great results.

We also talk about how relying less on the scales but more on other indicators like how well your clothes fit can be a better measure of overall success.

Now, on to this episode. Claire talks about how when she began working in an office, the change in lifestyle correlated with her weight gain. For about 5 years, Lou Claire felt unhappy with herself and turned to binge eating in secret so that she could avoid the shame she felt or the risk of being confronted by her partner.

This took its toll and got to a point where Lou Claire didn’t want to get out of bed and found herself in a quite severe emotional state. Sadly, after enjoying a holiday with her partner Lou Claire experienced verbal abuse from a complete stranger that upset her so much, she made a decision to make changes to her life.

Looking back, in some ways I think Lou Claire is glad this happened from the point of view that so much good has come of it. Over the following 9 months she went on to lose more than 7 stone and reach her objective. She is now much happier and has even won awards at her local slimming club.

Today we celebrate a WLW first, bringing you our first ever “couples” episode! Rob and Yvonne join the Weight Loss Warrior Podcast from Dublin, having lost more than 180lbs between them!

I loved this episode because as well as hearing their journey and the reasons they chose to lose weight; we also spent a lot of time discussing food! Things like taking more holidays, but without having to navigate hangovers since making the decision to stop drinking alcohol are some of the changes they have made and now feel a lot better for.

As mentioned, we discuss food in great detail and this episode will be helpful for anyone who struggles with the planning and maintaining of a meal schedule.

EP18: Losing 5 stone by working on a change in mindset and daily routine.

Our special guest today is Jayne and something interesting on this episode is that her transformation didn’t start from a firm decision that she wanted to lose weight, but out of a need to get away from her work.

Jayne talks about not being happy with the routine she found herself in and how drinking on a regular basis was having an impact in other areas of her life.

We learn how developing a love for the gym was crucial for Jayne and she shares some tips for anyone who might want to join but feels a little unsure.

On this episode we talk about the benefits of calorie counting, how the scales don’t always tell the full story and why it’s not always needed to join a slimming group.

One of the things I enjoyed most about having Jayne as a guest was her passion for health and nutrition since making the important changes in her life.

Jayne has lost almost 5 stone on her journey and in addition has completely changed her state of mind. You can hear the positivity in her voice showing how important these changes have been and I think it will help to inspire many others who listen

EP17: How losing just 1lb a week added up to over 8 stone for Kylee

One of the things I loved about todays episode is that it’s a great reminder of how “slow and steady” really does win the race.

Our special guest Kylee has lost over 8 stone since her journey began and puts the overall success down to taking your time and accepting that life will always have challenges, but more than anything to keep going and stick at it.

It was great to hear how Kylee has focused on making small changes gradually, enabling her to adjust to life weighing less throughout her journey. She shares how much more she is able and happy to do following her transformation, offering great advice to our WLW tribe.

One of the key goals for my podcast is to share real stories from real people and when you listen to the episode I think it provides a great reminder that there is no magic or mystery to weight loss and that it is something everyone has the capability to do.

EP13: Erika explains why acceptance is as important, if not more so than weight loss.

If this was a Friends episode, it would be called; “The one with all the great advice”

Erika joins me to share not just her story, but an amazing amount of important truths that contribute to making your weight loss journey both successful and one that you feel truly happy about.

Erika also shares great insight to how important it is to learn to accept your body as your own individual and unique gift, not to be compared or in competition with anyone else.
