Have you been told you're "too sensitive" or "too emotional"? Do you often feel drained by other people? Are you moved to tears easily? If so... you just may be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).
Join host and HSP Mentor, Alissa Boyer, as she breaks the stigma of sensitivity and teaches you how to embrace your sensitivity as a gift. Here, you'll always be welcomed exactly as you are.
New episodes every Tuesday!
For most highly sensitive people, advocating for a physical need feels like being a burden. Jen Fitzpatrick, a celiac advocate and founder of the Confident Celiac Community, joins Alissa to talk about the years she spent staying quiet about her own needs and the shift that finally changed it.
The tension is one a lot of HSPs with a chronic condition know well. Speaking up is what keeps you safe, but every people pleasing instinct says stay quiet instead. Alissa and Jen unpack why that instinct runs so deep and how to move through it anyway.
Pulling from Jen's diagnosis story, a study abroad trip where she watched everyone else eat what she couldn't, and Alissa's own experience navigating her daughter's recent diagnosis, the conversation moves through shame, community and self worth.

When someone's energy feels a little different than usual, quieter, colder, more reserved, your mind starts filling in the silence with a story about what you did wrong.
This week Alissa breaks down where that hypervigilance actually comes from and why your mind rushing to assume the worst rarely has anything to do with what's actually happening.
Pulling from her own patterns and stories from women in the Not Too Sensitive Club, Alissa walks through how to catch the spiral before it takes over.

This week's episode comes from a riff request in the Not Too Sensitive Club group chat, a question about how to stop taking it personally when someone seems committed to disliking you, especially when you're wired to feel that discomfort in your body.
It's uncomfortable to sense someone judging you, and every instinct says to win them over. Alissa offers a different move: recognizing whose story this actually is.
She walks through what projection usually means psychologically, the energetic practices she uses before and after being around someone who triggers this, and why she'd rather be disliked for being herself than loved for shrinking.

In this solo episode, Alissa names the exhaustion of shape shifting to fit an imagined mold of what's acceptable, and offers the alternative: deciding, every day, who you are and how you want to show up.
Sparked by comments on a viral Instagram post about owning being "too much," Alissa calls out the excuse that other's won't let you be your true self. She's not buying the narrative that other people's discomfort is proof something is wrong with you.
Pulling from her own story and pattern she keeps hearing from women in the Not Too Sensitive Club, she shares ways you can take back your power and decide who you are going to be.

Alissa recently shared a post that said "please be too much," and it went viral, reaching over 2 million people after nearly two years of feeling like her work wasn't getting seen. But this episode isn't really about going viral. It's about what happened in those two quiet years before it, and why the willingness to show up anyway, even when you feel embarrassed, judged, or invisible, is what actually builds confidence and self-trust.
For sensitive people, the fear of being seen trying runs deep. Alissa offers two words that changed her life: so what?
She shares the stories behind it, from being mocked by people she went to high school with, to an email that hit her most painful insecurity square in the chest, to the six years of unseen work that led to her book deal with Penguin Random House. You don't wait until you feel healed and confident to start. You start, and that's what makes you confident.

In this solo episode, Alissa shares the duality she's been living inside, where heartbreak over a forever diagnosis sits right next to genuine blessing, and offers a way to honor every feeling without letting those feelings run the show.
Through real moments from her own week, the 7am overwhelm she interrupted with gratitude, the choked up drive home from the doctor, the surprise of a new car the same afternoon, she gets honest about what it really means to be steady. Being unbothered was never about feeling less. It's about feeling all of it and still choosing how you move forward.

Being seen means being judged. In this episode, Alissa lays out why that's not a reason to stay small, and what it actually takes to let other people have an opinion of you without losing yourself in it.
For HSPs, this isn't just a confidence issue. It's energetic. You feel it when someone misreads you, when a comment lands sideways, when the room shifts after you share something you're proud of. The instinct is to pull back, smooth it over, or shrink to keep the peace.
Alissa pulls from her own experience, including a pointed DM from a stranger who made it clear she wasn't a fan, and from a client who just hit a major life milestone and immediately felt the weight of other people's reactions.

For HSPs navigating a world that wasn't built for them, the default can become: everything is hard, no one understands, and discomfort is a signal to retreat.
In this solo episode, Alissa challenges that frame directly. She shares how her life experience has shaped her view of challenges.
So even with the newest challenge life is giving her, to raise her daughter Blaine through a Type 1 diabetes and celiac diagnosis, she knows this discomfort is not something to escape but the exact thing that is building her confidence that she can handle the life she wants.

In this episode, Alissa revisits one of the most important distinctions for highly sensitive people: the difference between caring about someone and carrying their experience as your own. Using real examples from clients and her own life, she unpacks why the impulse to manage other people's emotions is actually anxiety disguised as empathy.
For HSPs who grew up as the peacekeeper, the fixer, or the emotionally responsible one, this pattern runs deep. The discomfort of watching someone be disappointed, frustrated, or hurt can feel so unbearable that smoothing it over becomes automatic. But Alissa names what that actually costs: your steadiness, your self-worth, and your ability to show up with any real integrity.

In this solo episode, Alissa explores one of the most deeply ingrained patterns she sees in highly sensitive people: the belief that having needs makes you a burden.
For HSPs, this is a story that gets built early, when your emotional reactions were “too big”, when your needs felt different from everyone else's, and when the people around you responded with frustration instead of understanding.
That story then follows you into adulthood, into relationships, and even into restaurants where you over-apologize to the waitress for ordering plain chicken.

In this solo episode, Alissa shares a deeply personal update about her daughter's new celiac disease diagnosis and what it revealed about the way life equips you long before you understand why.
Years of navigating her own severe digestive issues, strict diets, and the emotional weight of feeling different gave Alissa a toolkit she never expected to need for her child. She connects that thread to the broader truth about how sensitivity, struggle, and the discomfort of being "too much" are never wasted.

This week, Alissa sits down with social anxiety coach and author Claire Eastham to unpack where that fear really comes from and what it takes to stop performing your way through every interaction.
Claire shares how years of masking and people-pleasing led to a nervous breakdown, and how embracing the very traits she'd been told were "too much" became the turning point. Together they explore why sensitive, empathic people are especially prone to over-scripting social situations and why the goal was never to stop feeling uncomfortable.
This conversation is equal parts honest and light, full of personal stories, practical strategies, and the kind of permission-giving reframes that change how you show up. The real shift isn't becoming someone who doesn't get anxious. It's becoming someone who doesn't need to hide it.

Drawing from a recent coaching conversation inside the Not Too Sensitive Club, Alissa walks through the pattern so many highly sensitive women fall into: outsourcing their sense of self to how others respond to them. When that source gets disrupted (e.g., a boundary gets pushback, a workplace stops reflecting your value) it can feel like an identity crisis.
Alissa explores what happens when the external validation you've relied on disappears, and why that unraveling is actually the beginning of something more solid.
Because the real work isn't getting people to see you differently. It's learning to source your steadiness from within so that outside opinions stop running your life.

In this episode, Alissa explores how highly sensitive people can keep their “channel clear” so they can access their intuition, creativity, and natural gifts.
While sensitivity comes with powerful strengths—like empathy, intuition, and emotional intelligence—many HSPs feel disconnected from those gifts because their inner channel is cluttered by outside noise, old conditioning, and self-doubt.
Alissa shares three ways to clear that channel so you can trust yourself more deeply, connect with your authentic perspective, and stop letting insecurity or comparison block your natural strengths.

She explores what it actually takes for sensitive people to build resilience and thrive through life’s ebbs and flows.
Alissa unpacks how a sensitive nervous system can default to overwhelm, avoidance, and self-doubt, and how those patterns quietly reinforce the belief that “I can’t handle this.” She challenges listeners to see discomfort not as proof of inadequacy, but as evidence of growth.
In this episode, she shares:

In this episode, Alissa sits down with writer and speaker Case Kenny for a conversation about self-expression, confidence, and what it really means to stop shrinking yourself.
They explore why embracing your “cringe,” intensity, and nonconforming traits is actually magnetic, and why the fear of being judged keeps so many Highly Sensitive People playing small.
The conversation expands into relationships. How to know if someone amplifies you, why “low maintenance” is often code for self-abandonment, and why we should aim to “settle up,” not settle down.
This episode is an invitation to raise your standards, trust your essence, and choose relationships that expand you.

Season 2.0 of the Not Too Sensitive Podcast is officially here, and Alissa is back after a much-needed break with a renewed vision for the show.
In this episode, Alissa shares what shifted during her time away. Then from there, the conversation turns to one of the most common (and painful) patterns Highly Sensitive People experience in relationships: betraying themselves in order to keep the peace.
Alissa breaks down how people-pleasing, over-giving, and self-silencing often stem from low self-worth and abandonment wounds, and why relationships that require you to abandon yourself were never sustainable to begin with.
This episode is an honest invitation to take ownership of your role in relationship dynamics and to step fully into the version of yourself who no longer self-abandons for approval or safety.

As 2025 comes to a close, Alissa shares a reflective and personal episode about endings, rebirth, and learning how to live in true alignment, especially as a Highly Sensitive Person.
This year held profound milestones and massive shifts: signing a book deal, welcoming a new baby after pregnancy loss, navigating postpartum life while writing a book, and feeling the internal pull to realign how she shows up creatively and professionally.
Alissa also shares what’s been lighting her up lately, from writing long-form essays on Substack to witnessing the depth, courage, and growth happening inside the Not Too Sensitive Club.
At the heart of this conversation is a powerful reminder: alignment isn’t about forcing consistency. It’s about listening closely to what feels true now.

In this episode, Alissa gets real about one of the biggest struggles Highly Sensitive People face: the constant overthinking, analyzing, and self-editing that comes from worrying what others might be thinking.
She breaks down how this pattern can quietly run your life—influencing your choices, your boundaries, your energy, and even your self-worth— and why learning to unhook from other people’s perceptions is essential for emotional freedom.
Through personal stories and client experiences, Alissa explores why sensitive, empathetic people often end up shapeshifting, people-pleasing, and abandoning themselves in order to feel liked or safe, and what needs to change in order to stop that cycle for good.

This week’s episode is a gentle reminder for all of us: you’re doing more than you realize, and it’s okay to acknowledge it. 💛
Alissa dives into a practice that she often share with her 1:1 clients and in the Not Too Sensitive Club. The practice is all about zooming out on yourself to witness all that you’re holding and doing. This is especially helpful during busy seasons (hello, holidays!) when it’s easy to get stuck in the “what’s missing” or “I’m not enough” mindset.

This week’s episode is a little different in the best way!
Alissa is sharing a raw, unfiltered audio drop straight from Lucky Girl Radio, the private chat inside The Not Too Sensitive Club where she opens up about her personal growth, lived experiences, and the inner work she’s navigating in real time.
In this behind-the-scenes glimpse, Alissa explores what it looks like to improve yourself from a place of self-acceptance rather than shame. She shares a recent real-life moment where she noticed a part of herself she wants to strengthen, and how she lovingly coached herself through it without spiraling into “what’s wrong with me?” energy.

In this episode, Alissa offers a refreshing, grounded reframe for navigating holiday gatherings, especially when you’re a highly sensitive person anticipating old triggers, complicated family dynamics, or emotionally draining interactions.
Instead of bracing yourself or rehearsing every response, she invites you to see these moments as a kind of “spiritual assignment” or gentle experiment: an opportunity to practice confidence, curiosity, boundaries, and self-regulation in real time.
This perspective doesn’t dismiss the pain, history, or lived experience behind these moments. Instead, it provides a lighter, more empowered way to move through them so you can show up as the version of yourself you’re becoming.

Through a real client example, she breaks down exactly how to move from blaming, spiraling, or shutting down to curiosity, self-validation, and empowered action.
This conversation offers a grounded, compassionate reminder that being highly sensitive doesn’t mean you’re fragile. It means you have a deeper invitation to grow, self-advocate, and trust your own worth.

In this special guest episode, Alissa sits down with therapist and author Jessica Baum to explore how attachment styles develop, how they relate to sensitivity, and what healing secure attachment actually looks like.
Jessica explains why so many highly sensitive people lean anxious in relationships, what it means to internalize safety, and how to start rewiring our attachment patterns through co-regulation and safe connection.
This conversation offers compassionate insight into the “too much / not enough” wound, emotional neglect, and the cultural obsession with independence that often keeps us disconnected from true intimacy and support.

In this episode, Alissa gets real about one of the biggest reasons highly sensitive people stay stuck—overthinking instead of acting.
She shares why consuming self-help content isn’t enough, why confidence doesn’t come from journaling or affirmations alone, and how taking small, messy action steps is what actually rewires your identity and builds self-trust.
Through client stories, personal reflection, and her own journey from blog posts to a Penguin Random House book deal, Alissa shows how you can stop waiting to feel ready and start becoming the version of yourself who already does the thing.
What You’ll Learn:* Why awareness alone won’t create transformation * The difference between knowing what to do and actually doing it * Why confidence is built through discomfort, not perfection * Simple ways to practice self-trust in low-stakes situations * How small, consistent steps compound into massive growth over time

Today Alissa is diving into a pattern she sees often in highly sensitive women—and one she's personally navigated herself—the instant sinking feeling that you’re “in trouble” whenever someone disagrees with you, gets upset, or pushes back.
This episode explores the roots of this response—often tied to the fawn response, good girl conditioning, and past experiences with unpredictability or invalidation—and how it can leave you feeling frustrated, insecure, and walked over.
Whether you’re 20 or 70, it’s never too late to start reclaiming your confidence, self-worth, and ability to show up authentically without letting fear or past patterns dictate your actions.

In this episode, Alissa shares a powerful reflection on the connection between personal growth and expanding your tolerance for discomfort.
She explains how the moments that stretch us, challenge us, and make us uncomfortable are actually the in-between spaces where transformation happens.
Using real examples from her postpartum fitness journey and her early days coaching highly sensitive people, Alissa reminds us that confidence and self-trust are built through showing up in the messy middle, not avoiding it.
You’ll learn why avoiding discomfort keeps HSPs stuck in people-pleasing, how to recognize the growth hidden inside your triggers, and why the tension between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming is exactly where your evolution lives.

In this episode, Alissa is joined by her client and friend, Elena Willitts, a home organizing coach who helps women, especially Type B and Type C personalities to ditch the shame, create simple systems, and feel confident in their space. They talk about why traditional organizing advice doesn’t work for everyone, how clutter impacts your mental well-being (especially for highly sensitive people), and the deeper self-worth work behind creating a home you love. Elena’s unique approach blends mindset shifts with practical, low-pressure strategies so you can stop feeling overwhelmed and start partnering with your home in a way that feels good.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode:
About Elena:
Elena Willitts is a home organizing coach, mom of three, and founder of Kind Organizing. She specializes in helping women who have struggled with organization, many of whom are Type B or C, live with ADHD, or just don’t resonate with rigid, perfectionistic systems, find practical, shame-free ways to care for their homes. Her signature approach combines decluttering, realistic systems, and mindset shifts so clients can feel lighter, more confident, and more connected to their space.

Hit play for practical advice and inspiration for you to shift your perspective on discomfort and people pleasing!

__________
Our heart starts racing, our stomach drops to the floor, and we feel under attack. Even if you're not an HSP, criticism is painful to receive and in all honesty, it can bring out our Hyper Sensitivity.
Sometimes the feedback and criticism is there to genuinely help up and sometimes it's just a mean troll on the internet. Either way, our bodies tend to react in the same way and so we need healthy ways to cope with these feelings.

Growing up as an HSP, we would tend to notice the emotions of everyone around us and at such a young age it could be hard to discern if they were mad at us or something else. Sadly, we've internalized that as adults and can often feel guilty if people are upset.
The good news? You can free yourself from these feelings.

This was one of my very first episodes and also a favorite because I still talk about and believe in the importance of triggers and how they can help us grow.
_________
Triggers can show up in all sorts of ways - from an immediate emotional reaction like anger or sadness to a physical gut reaction like shaking, feeling sick, or nauseous. It can be overwhelming and happen so suddenly that we aren't aware until we're deep in the feels.
It can be easy to blame others when we're triggered but instead we should empower ourselves to find the root cause of the issue and why what that person did triggered us in the first place. Turn the focus inward and respect yourself enough to work through the problems.

______
When every weird look, snide remark, or unfriendly punctuation in a text can cause us to go into a tailspin - it's easy to see that we may take things a little too personally.
Because we are constantly taking in more information than others, we tend to notice every mood change or every slight difference in a person's communication which causes us to feel as if things are our fault or direct at us.
But ready for some ground breaking news?!
9 times out of 10, another person's behavior or mood is not your fault or even your responsibility (this is just my own opinion).
I know you don't want to take things personally but it's just the way our brains are wired. But it's time to break free of this self-imposed prison and find joy and happiness in not taking things personally.

An oldie but a goodie! (Originally published September 27th, 2021)
_____
Maybe you grew up being told your emotions were "too much" or you were in a household where it was literally unsafe to express how you were feeling...now as an adult you find it difficult to handle these emotions and feelings. As I currently work through feelings of grief in my own life, philosophies on Emotional Regulation have been coming up a lot. It can be so much easier to numb out or blow up instead of just feeling the feelings and moving on.
Growth, expansion, and a stronger version of yourself is on the other side of your emotions. You must be willing to move through them in order to live your healthiest life.

The other week I hosted an amazing virtual retreat for HSPs and it gave me so much life. I had tons of positive feedback on this meditation and I wanted to share it with my podcast listeners too!
Like I mention in the recording, take some time to journal about your highest self and how she moves through the world and then come back to this meditation any time you need to reconnect with her. She's always there.

Life gets better when you learn to take care of yourself first, set those boundaries, and show yourself that it's safe.

As a non-HSP, it can be hard to understand what HSPs go through. While it's not good or bad to be an HSP or not, there are some major differences between the two and it's important that both sides understand each other.
We can learn to support and encourage each other but it first starts with empathy. So here I am to cast some light on what it means to be a Highly Sensitive Person.

Motherhood is hard. Running a business is hard. Being an HSP on top of that definitely adds a whole other dimension. I really try to always be positive about being an HSP but at the end of the day, I'm only human and things tend to wear us down much harder if we aren't careful.
HSPs tend to get stuck in overthinking and overanalyzing and needing breaks before we burn out - and that's OK! It's all about learning how to take care of ourselves and nourish ourselves or ask for help.
I recently had an experience as a mother and business owner that was new to me and I wanted to share about it. Because I always want to be real with you guys and share what I'm going through.
Get cozy and join me in this episode as I get a little vulnerable - hopefully it will help you through your struggles too.

Happy Valentines Day! I thought it was the perfect time to re-share this Sensitive & Soulful Podcast episode from October 2021 talking all about relationships as an HSP.
❤️ ❤️ ❤️
HSPs make up only about 15-20% of the population which means most people you meet and have relationships with are not HSPs. This is why it's so important to learn about your trait and understand the HSP characteristics fully in order to communicate them to your partner. Our partners can't read our minds, we must be willing to have those conversations with them. In most cases, the people we have strong relationships with will be open (and eager) to learn more about you and what makes you, YOU!
But sadly, it is all too common for HSPs and empaths to find themselves wrapped up with a narcissistic person who doesn't care about their good-natured traits but instead uses your empathy, love, and kindness to their advantage.
Either way, it may be time for some tough conversations with yourself and others. Tune in to this episode to get the lowdown on relationships as an HSP and empath.

In this episode, Matt and I explore the concept of Dharma and how this concept connects us to our soul path and purpose in this life. We talk about our own struggles trying to understand our Dharma throughout life and how we came into connection with the path we both choose to walk. We also explore how we both feel stuck at times in our lives especially when life asks us to pivot as we grow and change, and the resistance we have met and continue to meet along the way.

Join Matt and I on this episode of the Sensitive & Empowered Series, where we talk about our own personal journeys toward developing self-trust.
From people-pleasing and conformity, to learning to listen to the whispers of our intuition, we have both come a long way when it comes to learning how to trust ourselves.
We both live by the motto “feel the fear and do it anyway” and this has been the mindset we have needed to take the necessary action to put ourselves in situations where we can develop trust in ourselves.
You can do this too, and we encourage you to move through self-doubt and fear so you can step more into your power.
When you learn to stop outsourcing your authority to others, you will come home to yourself and find the trust you have been seeking all along.

I've had enough of over consumption - whether it's social media, the news, podcasts, or just other people. We all have our own thoughts and opinions but when we only consume and never create, we tend to tone down our own messages to fit the collective.
So, no more agreeing with everyone for the sake of agreeing with everyone. It's time to take back our power and understand how important it is to be still, quiet, and listening to our own voices.

Join Matt and I on this episode of the Sensitive & Empowered Series (a monthly Instagram chat)! This month we talked about loneliness. We've both been experiencing bouts of loneliness in our lives right now and we wanted to share openly and vulnerably about the cause and how we're dealing with it.
Being an HSP can be such a gift but it can also be challenging to navigate as well. Social isolation and hyper-independence are two common defense mechanisms many of us tend to use to cope with loneliness. In the episode we both unpack some of the day-to-day psychology involved and how it shows up in our lives personally.

We've all gotten little hits of inspiration at random times or in random places. Most people tend to ignore those hits. But as HSPs we can only ignore it for so long before our hearts start to yell at us. Our intuition is naturally strong but if we've been ignoring it for too long or listening to other peoples' opinions over our own, it's probably gotten lost somewhere deep inside of us.

As HSPs and empaths, we tend to rely heavily on our feelings and gut reactions – and we should! We should always trust our intuition. But what if that feeling is a feeling of discomfort? Do we take it as a sign to stop what we’re doing and turn back?
I know the discomfort of other people’s judgements and opinions and I know it’s not a good feeling. It can often times feel like a sign that we should stop doing something, especially if that opinion comes from a friend or loved one.
Maybe the judgement is so strong that all you want to do is crawl into your bed and never do anything again…
Please don’t.
Please continue to make beautiful art, talk to new people, try new things, and share your light and gifts despite what others say or how they react.
Join me in this episode to learn how to fight through the discomfort and learn how to navigate it in a healthy way.

When you have every excuse in the world to not go and do something that's when you know you should do it! As HSPs we tend to stay in places we know and feel comfortable in. Why wouldn't we? But some of our greatest opportunities and experiences come from places of discomfort, and pushing ourselves to do something challenging.
Think about the last time you were scared to do something new but it ended up being one of the best experiences or you ended up meeting some amazing people. That's exactly what happened to me recently which I share all about in this episode!

We live in an age where self-help books, online gurus, and endless podcasts are the norm. We also grew up with people basically telling us that we were too much and that we needed to stop being so dramatic. Combine those two things and you get an HSP who is always looking to others for the answers.
But its okay! Because I used to be there myself. With a little self-work, reflection, and integration, we can start to trust ourselves more and look within for the answers.

Let's be real. HSPs have some BIG emotions. We learned early on in our lives that our emotions made others uncomfortable and caused rifts or issues in relationships...so we started hiding them. Our heart starts racing, our stomach drops to the floor, and we feel under attack. Even if you’re not an HSP, criticism is painful to receive and, in all honesty, it can bring out our Hyper Sensitivity and anger.
Sometimes the feedback and criticism is there to genuinely help us and sometimes it's just a mean troll on the internet. Either way our bodies tend to react in the same way and so we need a healthy way to cope with these feelings and to move through them so we can be the best that we can be.

Difficult conversations are usually the most important. But when we know we get overwhelmed easily and our intense feelings come out as tears in the middle of tough conversations, we start to shy away from them. We start to people please more and try to appease everyone so we never have to have those hard talks.
The answer to stepping into these conversations with confidence and grace may be a littler easier than you think. It starts with us, it always starts with us. We must know ourselves first before engaging in tough conversations with others.

I used to second-guess myself all the time. I struggled to make my own decisions and always looked to others for guidance. I just didn’t trust myself to have the answers.
And it’s no wonder - because most HSPs are told their whole lives (either verbally or vibrationally) that they are different and weird and….wrong.
It took me a long time to finally start trusting myself and not look to others for answers. It starts small but once you get the ball rolling, life will open up to you when you stop second-guessing everything.

What happens when we let our inner critic speak too much, too often, and for too long? We start doubting ourselves, we take less risks, and we believe every bad thing that little voice says.
Here’s the thing though, you are not your inner critic. You are so much more and so much better than that voice gives you credit for.
I’ve noticed that around this time of year, my inner critic comes out especially hard. We fail on our new goals before we even start because we let that voice run the show.
The inner critic comes out when you start hearing things like: “You should've worked out harder,” “I can’t believe you ate another cookie,” “You really messed up this time! No one will forgive you.”
If you’re fed up with that voice being so loud, this episode is for you!
You’ll learn:
• How to recognize your inner critic’s voice and give it a name.
• How to separate yourself from your inner critic.

When every weird look, snide remark, or unfriendly punctuation in a text can cause us to go into a tailspin – it’s easy to see that we may take things a little too personally.

Let It Be Easy (a book by Susie Moore)
Navigating the holidays as a Highly Sensitive Person should be an olympic sport. Between numerous parties, outings, and big family gatherings, it can feel like a recipe for overwhelm.
We know the holidays are supposed to be about love, happiness, peace, and joy but it can often feel like the most stressful part of the year. We feel guilty for letting the hustle and bustle get to us, we could be dealing with the loss of a loved one, or live in a new place without friends and family around. Holidays can bring up all sorts of things that we should not feel guilty about.
In this super exclusive sneak peek into The Highly Sensitive and Soulful Membership, you get some of my top tips for handling holiday stress, dealing with grief, and ways to cope with overstimulation. If you're anything like me, you grew up feeling like you were too much, too emotional, too sensitive - so you learned to counterbalance that with... que Spongebob putting a rainbow over his head people pleasing.
It's not uncommon as an HSP and empath to simply go with the flow; don't make waves, don't make suggestions in case someone hates it, don't state an opposing opinion because you may make enemies, etc. etc. etc.
But at the core of people pleasing is really just us trying to control other people's perceptions of us. AKA: trying to control others. It's a harsh reality but one we must learn.
Don't get me wrong, people pleasing comes from a very good place in our hearts but it might be time to reevaluate this habit of ours.

"Why do I feel so out of place here?" "Why does it feel so hard to make friends?" "Why don't people respect me and my boundaries?"
As an HSP, these types of thoughts can be all too common in our everyday life. We feel we aren't understood by others and that leaves us feeling unsure of ourselves and our traits. It can be hard to come to terms with the fact that yes, we are very different from non-HSPs...but I'm here to tell you: THAT'S OKAY!
You are not meant to be like everyone else. Your gifts and talents are so special and the sooner you realize that and harness the potential inside of you, the more other people will be accepting of it!

As HSPs, we tend to get more overwhelmed and overstimulated more easily than our non-HSP friends, family members, and coworkers. This can be a challenge for us because we never to feel that our HSP traits are a bad thing. We don't want to be viewed as weak because we "can't keep up" or "get frazzled easily." Things that seem to be labeled as bad in our society.
The truth is, our nervous systems are just designed differently. Sometimes we aren't even aware of how much information we are taking in and how deeply we're processing it. Any normal day for an HSP could lead to overstimulation and that is nothing to be ashamed of. We are high precision instruments that need extra love, care, and attention. You wouldn't make fun of a Formula 1 race-car for being high maintenance so why do we feel like it's a bad thing when humans are high maintenance?

Energy Leak: something that is taking up space and leaking energy from you. It can be sneaky and small and you might not even realize it's leaking your energy.
When life starts to feel heavy and draining for no reason, it can usually be traced back to an energy leak or two. Because we, as HSPs tend to process everything around us so deeply (from our environment to the people we are with) energy leaks are going to be much more noticeable and draining to us. This is why it's so important to find them, deal with them, and patch up that leak.
If you feel like you always have pesky to-do items on your list that never seem to go away but always feel heavy, this episode is for you! Cozy up and let's dive in!
In this episode, you'll learn:
• How to discover your current energy leaks.
• Dealing with them so you can enjoy your life.
• What to do if an energy leak is a person.

It all started from a genuine place to feel better...
We never intend for self-help to become like a bad habit that consumes us and every waking moment -- but it can if we aren't careful. We can get so caught up in "bettering ourselves" that it causes us immense anxiety and stress when we do things that are labeled as unproductive.
I share about my journey to discovering the self-help world, how I let it take over my life, and my light-bulb moment when I knew it had gone too far. I'd realized that I stopped doing the things I enjoyed or found simple pleasures in. Instead, I felt that every single minute had to be productive or else it was a waste. If this sounds like you then pop in those ear buds and hit play!
In this episode, you'll learn:
• How to tell when you're burned out from self-help.
• Finding balance between bettering oneself and enjoying life.
• Why life is better when you're not always trying to "fix" yourself.

Triggers can show up in all sorts of ways -- from an immediate emotional reaction like anger or sadness to a physical gut reaction like shaking, feeling sick or nauseous.

This if the first of many podcast episodes on boundaries. As an HSP and empath, people pleasing can be our natural tendency which often leads to a lot of blurred lines and lack of boundaries. Every time we say yes to someone else and what they want, we are saying no to ourselves. Boundaries not only allow us to honor ourselves but also show others how to treat and respect us.

Welcome to the very first episode of the Sensitive & Soulful Show! I'm your host, Alissa Boyer - a spiritual writer, founder of the Highly Sensitive & Soulful Membership, and mentor to Highly Sensitive People (HSP). My mission in life is to help other highly sensitive souls learn how to embrace their sensitivity as a gift and lean into it instead of fighting against it.
In this episode, I talk about my own personal journey to discovering I'm an HSP and how I've turned it into my ultimate super power which has allowed me to now help thousands of others do the same! The world is a better place when more sensitive and deep-feeling people are comfortable and confident in their skin.
I'm so happy you're here.
