Scotland has long been a hot bed for underground electronic music; they really know their stuff up there and plying their trade longer than most are respected DJs and promoters Steve Cass & Justin Wilson with their No Strings Attached parties. Now in their 20th year the list of guests appearing alongside them is endless and the longevity of NSA is down to them constantly pushing their sound and bringing back the artists they personally like to hear. Based in Galashiels, south of Edinburgh the duo use a small basement in their local football club with a capacity of only 120. Guests have included Andrew Weatherall, Slam, Ivan Smagghe and Justin Robertson and they have also hosted numerous parties in the Scottish capital including A Love From Outer Space. NSA never stick to one genre expect; anything from weird disco to techno and the odd classic thrown in with this fine mix for us.

We've been pestering Craig for a mix ever since we started the podcast 3 years ago and we'd abandoned all hope of getting something from him so imagine our surprise when we awoke one morning to find this sitting pretty in our inbox. The cynical amongst us would say he's got a party to promote and you'd be right but hey, we'll take it. Craig's currently riding high on the success of his debut album on Tsuba 'Buy The Ticket Take The Ride' and his own Magic Feel stable is back after a short hiatus with a cracking new EP from Paresse & Markus Gibb which is a must buy. As for the aforementioned party, it's is taking place at Bar A Bar in Stoke Newington, London on 20th March with Craig himself and Clandestino favourites Paramida and Khidja. Taking us on a journey through psychedelic tribal disco that doesn't sound out of place in a steamy rain forest or on desert plains, their unique style has led them to curate the Dogon Village area at Festival No.6; where the thick tangled woods and trippy jungle sounds add to the ethereal atmosphere they create. We team up next Friday to bring ESP Institute's Young Marco over from Amsterdam for a debut show. We caught Peza soundtracking a beautifully sunny Saturday afternoon last September at the fantastic Festival No.6 and ever since then he's been on our hit list for a mix. Of course, we were already well aware of his super-cool edits on Authodiscotheque and A&R. If you've not heard his Human League re-interpretation; you simply aint dancing in the right places. Look out for a forthcoming remix of Tronik Youth's 'Splinter of the Mind's Eye' on Nein, and his next single 'Mekon' on Peter Herbert's Maxi Discs. Scottish folk could do worse than head to the Reading Rooms in Dundee on March 27th where Peza plays with Dicky Trisco and ALFOS. His mix for us is a beauty; very much the sound of where underground dance music is at in 2015 as far as we're concerned. Lock yourself in, Peza is at the controls...

Completing his third instalment for us we welcome back George Thompson in his Black Merlin guise. George's mixes are always some of our most well received and this one should be no different. Quite unlike most other things you'll hear; which is of course our mission to bring you interesting sounds from way out there. Black Merlin will shortly be releasing an as of yet untitled album via the Indonesian record label, Island of the Gods. Which George recorded in Indonesia featuring Gamelan music and atmospheric recordings of his experiences there.

A nice change of pace this week as DJ Rocca steps forth to pull together an eclectic session for us. Expect, dub, afro-beat, disco and of course a dash of chug. Rocca is rather busy of late, this month see's a collaboration with Danielle Baldelli released on Nein Records, an EP for El Diablos, an edit on Paper's new Trash The Wax offshoot and a remix on Mexico based Rude Boy. Also look our a special 12' of his side project Crimea X paying homage to John Carpenter.

Very pleased to welcome along Jennifer Cardini to Clandestino podcasts. As one of the most prominent figures in underground dance music, Jennifer's body of work has to date featured on some of the most seminal electronic labels of the last 15 years as a leading artists for Kompakt, Kill The DJ, Mobilee and of course her own Correspondant imprint. Her busy DJ schedule see's her expertly spin a wide range of cutting edge sounds with strong influences from Detroit to her home city of Cologne. Jennifer's mix is a sublime showcase featuring tracks from Matias Aguayo, Roman Fluegel, KZA, Legowelt, Soft Rocks, Prins Thomas, Rhythm Odyssey, Moscoman and more.

El Diablos has now spawned two record labels; the edits focused 'Rack & Ruin' and 'EDSCR' with recent music from DJ Rocca, Craig Bratley and Ron Basejam. Look our for an EP from ourselves on EDSCR next year

Rothmans is one of our 'go to' labels; guaranteed to always release music that fits in with the Clandestino ethos so we are pleased to have a mix for our series from them. We are assured the set contains mostly unreleased material with red hot cuts from Tusk Wax, Tim Fairplay and Brassica plus tracks from our EP that will be released on Rothmans next year

Tronik Youth steps into the virtual Clandestino booth this week to lay down a searing electronic selection. Currently causing waves with his Nein Records imprint look out for releases in the coming months for Dark Strands, DJ Rocca and Danielle Baldelli. Tronik himself has a new track out now on Tici Taci with a new slab of wax coming next month on Rotten City with mixes from Red Axes and Richard Sen

We've been aware of Tim & Nath for quite some time; the pair originally got together as students in our home city of Leeds and forged a strong residency at Wax:On. Since relocating to London Eskimo Twins reputation has blossomed with releases on Clouded Vision and Days Of Being Wild and a series of cool edits on their own 'Reworks' imprint. Look out for their forthcoming remix of Inigo Vontier. Thier mix for us contains new music from Craig Bratley, Heretic and our own track 'Night Waves'.

Originally hailing from Tel Aviv and now residing in Berlin Moscoman has been responsible for producing slick, contemporary underground club cuts for Days Of Being Wild and Headman's Relish imprint as well remixing Bot'ox and People Get Real. Robot 84 has been appearing on our radar more and more over the last 12 month's. His tracks have been supported by DJ's as diverse as Greg Wilson, Erol Alkan, Bill Brewster, Tim Sweeney, Justin Robertson & Rub N Tug and it's not hard to see why. His tracks are sublimely produced and range from shimmering dubby disco, electro-tinged balearica and straight up acid trax. Originally hailing from Scotland and now based in London, Robot84 is the alter-ego of Scott Ferguson, regularly releasing on Pete Gooding's Secret Life imprint as well as recent EP's on ISM, Under No Illusion and a forthcoming release on Cottam's Ruff Draft label. One to watch for sure

Cousins Josh Doherty & Rich Bevan make up the London based slo-mo techno and acid house duo Posthuman. Producing tracks together since 1999, their brooding melancholic sound has seen recent releases on Tusk Wax, Body Work and Rothmans with a new double EP out soon on Horn Wax. Also look out for their jams on […]
Logan Fisher aka Haules Baules steps forth this month to deliver a monster of a mix for us. Responsible for one of the biggest tracks in the last couple of years with ‘Creeper’, he’s one to watch for sure. His 3rd EP will be out soon on his self titled Haules Baules imprint. @haulesbaules
After chasing him for what seems like an age we’re delighted to finally present a guest mix from Man Power. Who is he? Know one know’s for sure. What is for sure though is since a series intriguing, underground electronic productions appeared on a little known SoundCloud profile, coupled by what can only be described […]
We welcome Antoni Maiovvi for this month’s podcast. Antoni creates hyper-cinematic electro-disco. He is also the co-owner of Giallo Disco Records, a limited 12” label that is currently the only home for euro inspired dance music. @antonmaiof
Delighted to have producers/DJs who have been making some of the most exciting music of the last couple of years step forward to put together this weeks podcast for us. Hailing from Bucharest, Khidja’s tracks on Emotional Especial and Forgotten Corner Records have captivated us with their hypnotic, electronic sounds flecked with a middle eastern […]
Ushering in the summer season with a heavy dose of balearica are Coyote. Hailing from Nottingham, Timm Sure & Ampo are veterans of the UK acid house movement and are now purveying sublime eclectic music through their IsItBalearic? and Magic Wand labels. The ‘B’ word is oft over used these days to describe any old […]
Delighted to welcome Headman aka Robi Insinna for this month’s podcast. We first met Robi when we invited him to play at our Polaroid party a few years back but we have been following his work for some time. His Relish Recordings imprint is one of Europe’s most discerning labels and always worth checking, with […]
A welcome return for Black Merlin aka George Thompson who delivers the second part to his very well received mix for us last year. As one of our most popular sets to date, we’re delighted to present this second instalment. George continues to be very busy with a slew of new material due out soon. […]
Some words from Leftside Wobble regarding his mix for us: “Leftside Classics is a retrospective featuring some of the tracks that have meant the most to me over the last five years or so. These are the tracks that somehow always find a way back into my sets, tracks that rise above the transient and […]
Something a little different on this weeks podcast as Discodromo take time out from recording underground electronic club music for labels such as Internasjonal to deliver a beatless selection especially the lovers. If you find yourself in Berlin check out their CockTail D’Amore party, you can also find them playing regularly at Panorama Bar. Look […]
We’re not quite sure if Il Bosco is a real person or a cyborg that stalks Manchester’s more salubrious night spots. One thing that is for sure, it’s human alter-ego Christian Wood is most definitely real and presides over Manchester’s Red Laser Records, a vinyl only Italo influenced love letter to music from a bygone […]
We're back after the New Year and very pleased to welcome our first mix of the year from another one of Italy's Slow Motion crew, Franz Underwear. Now residing in Berlin and with recent releases on Tusk Wax, World Unknown and Clouded Vision, Franz is one of the busiest DJ's in Europe; his sets are a mix of obscure Italian dance, disco house, new wave, space beats, cosmic grooves, electro, acid and some hints of Detroit and Chicago. This mix is an exclusive live performance from the Same Heads party in Berlin where he played alongside Ivan Smagghe.

Expect new beat, proto-house, weird new wave and synth sounds. Louis has racked up solid releases on Mindless Boogie, Sccucci Manucci and Nang while running his own Bravura imprint. He has a track out this week on the excellent Rainbow Partners compilation and we should see a new EP out on Bravura early next month. Dim the lights, switch on the lasers...

We have a rather special episode this week as we invite Jamie Blanco to put together a live set, consisting entirely of his own material. Jamie came to our attention through his retrospective, yet entirely modern sound on labels like Tusk Wax and London Housing Trust. His live set has taken him to perform recent shows at Renate in Berlin, and Bad Passion in London. Using Ableton with a controller, sending his tracks through an analogue space echo, loop station and Moog filter and playing live acid basslines on his 303, Jamie's aim is to retain a live feel throughout his sets. Our London followers should check him out playing alongside Andre Lodemann in Shoreditch on December 12th. Look out for new releases coming early next year on Cynic, Disco Bloodbath and again on London Housing Trust, some of which you can hear in the set.

This episode is all about disco. And we don't mean half-assed nu-disco thrown together on a computer; we mean proper tops off, crackling' vinyl, basement sweatbox disco just like it should be. Bearded Lumberjack Marcel Vogel from rural Germany chops up soulful tunes as a profession and releases some of these on his Lumberjacks in Hell imprint. Others you'll only hear in his DJ sets. Many influences shine through when Marcel is behind the decks; the heat and energy of the Chicago Disco masters, the grittiness of the Detroit godfathers, the playfulness of Berlin's freestyle jocks and the soulful tradition of New York Garage. Let's chop some wax and heat the dance floor up…

Days Of Being Wild is a label we've been keeping a keen eye on over the last 12 months or so. With their tagline of 'slightly deranged club music' it's hard not to be interested, and they have soon caught the ear of Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall, Chloe and Scott Fraser amongst others. We approached them to record a mix for us and they presented us with this fine live session recorded by label head Catalepsia (aka Jerome Bazzanella) at their monthly DOBW session at Willerhof in France. We're informed there are lots of forthcoming tracks from the label included. Strap in, lets get wild...

Iranian born Reza Athar came to our attention with a series of exceptional playlists and mixes. Naturally, we thought it only right and proper to ask him to record something for us. And the result is quite special, a mix very much in keeping with the Clandestino ethos. Now residing in Nijmegen, Netherlands Reza promotes the Horizon party, inviting such calibre of guests as Trevor Jackson, Chloe and Jennifer Cardini.

Chris Duckenfield is one of the UK's much loved DJ's. A more versatile spinner you will struggle to find; there is no vibe he can't turn his hand to while rocking the spot and he remains relevant after more than 20 years at the front line of underground house music. Quite frankly, there is no further hyperbole needed this week. We are honoured to have him on board. Press play and turn up the volume.

Black Merlin, or George Thompson to his Mum, first came to our attention with his outstanding Brunswick Drive 12" on Commander Weatherall's Bird Scarer label last year. Since then, we've kept a keen eye on his movements and his unique form of 80's inspired, cinematic and analogue heavy aesthetic has earned him further releases on the excellent World Unknown imprint and Mike Simonetti's New Jersey. Look out for an as yet untitled release on London's LN-CC. We are pleased to welcome him into the Clandestino fold.

We continue to shine a light on quality underground music in all four corners of the world and this week we land in Italy, where Fabrizio Mammarella serves up a mysterious, brooding mix of pitched down dance floor sounds. With a unique sound spanning disco, house & techno, Fabrizio has released on Steve Kotey's Hairy Claw and Bear Funk imprints and is part of the Slow Motion collective running parties since 2004 in his native Pescara. He also records as Clap Rules, responsible for quirky remixes on DFA, In Flagranti & Tiny Sticks. Turn down the lights...

OK hands up, we have a bone fide cracker of a mix here. We first met Steve Lee on a raucous trip to Croatia a few year's back and we have been avid followers of his work as Project Club for some time. A stupidly talented producer, his output on labels such as Is It Balearic?, Need Want and Tusk Wax are nothing but essential. His Balearica night in London reads like a who's who from the underground left field disco scene attracting regular visits from Idjut Boys, Phil Mison, Johnny Nash, Coyote, Paul "Mudd" Murphy, Soft Rocks and more. He recently launched his new vinyl only label Above Machine, under which guise he presents this mix, now on it's fourth release with a corking EP from Almunia which is topping the more discerning charts everywhere you turn. Quite simply, another must check project from Mr Steve Lee.

We take our first visit to Scandinavia for this weeks episode as Tobias Lidström steps forward to produce a blend of some of the more interesting records in his bag. Tobias aka DJ Tooli is a stalwart of the Stockholm nightlife scene and plays regularly across Europe. He's co-owner of Local Talk Records, one of Sweden's most respected house music imprints and he is also part of the 24 Hours crew, once responsible for the sadly now defunct but excellent blog. Tobias' mix steps away from the dance floor and takes us on a trip, taking in dowtempo, cosmic oddities, oddball pop and balearica. A hazy late summer mix indeed

We've been big fans of Fernando since he appeared in the early noughties as Silver City with long time collaborator Julian Sanza. The pair also formed the backbone of the seminal, now sadly defunct 2020 Soundsystem. But more recently, Fernando has been turning out some sublime disco drenched house cuts featuring his loose, super funky live bass for labels Bear Funk, Redux and Under the Shade. Earlier this year he dropped an LP on Bear Funk which is one of the albums of the year for us.

This month we take over the reigns to present a 100% live vinyl mix to warm up for our set at this week's Electric Elephant festival over in Croatia. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did recording it... You can still get tickets for the festival if you fancy a few days of sublime music on the Adriatic coast. And why wouldn't you? Check out www.electricelephant.co.uk for full details...
We head into double figures this month as our tenth podcast sees a delightful mix from Brighton's Kalidasa. Perfectly timed for the arrival of summer, this psychedelia inspired set of sun-kissed dubby disco and shimmering balearica is ideal for tuning in and dropping out by the beach, pool or indeed your back garden. In short, right up our strasse. Kalidasa have forthcoming releases on Tusk Wax, Craig Bratley's Magic Feet imprint and Solt Rock's Kinfolk label, we'd urge you to check them out. Sublime sounds from the South Coast

A mix from one of the Clandestino collective this week as Andy Pye takes a break from his acclaimed Balearic Social radio show to lay down some lights down low music for us. We're big fans of Andy's music here at Clandestino HQ. A proper vinyl enthusiast, you can always rely on him to pull out the right music at the right time. His weekly show on Purple Radio is essential listening, pulling in eclectic guest mixes from the likes of Seahawks, Hardway Bros & many others.

Delighted to have our next podcast put together by a producer who's music we've quickly become major fans of over the last couple of years. Timothy Fairplay makes up the Scrutton St studio axis with Scott Fraser and a certain Andrew Weatherall, forming The Asphodells with the latter who have just released their debut album to critical acclaim on Weatherall's Rotters Golf Club label. Tim's mix contains lots of exclusive tracks you wont hear elsewhere for a while, including upcoming new productions from Tim himself and his alter-ego Antoine Rouge. Strap in, we are going for a ride...
Track ID's on request :)
Flash Atkins is a super hero who had his gravy days in the 80s saving the world with his ability to manipulate sound. Unfortunately he's fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time. To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings.
Ruf Dug in the house. Episode no.6 is hot shit, from somewhere in darkest Mancunia comes 60 minutes of vinyl only dance floor dynamite, with an extra special sprinkling of Ruf's own FX units, tape delays and dub sirens. Vinyl heads need to check his essential Ruf Kutz label and his rufkutz.net blog is worth a look for edit giveaways and banter, if nothing else...
It's Friday so that means we have a new podcast to take you into the weekend. Something a bit different for our next episode as we ask Tusk Wax to take a break from running his three labels to delve deep into his record crates and put us a bit of a party mix together. It's a louche selection of disco, boogie, Afro and funk; perfect to get your weekend started. Tusk will be playing at our next party which takes place on Bank Holiday Saturday 4th May. Full details coming soon...
Episode number 4 in the Clandestino podcast series comes to you from deepest West Yorkshire. Hebden Bridge to be exact; an unlikely hot bed of deep electronic music we'll have you know.
Causa is the latest alter-ego of Joe Lucas. We've been fans of Joe's work since his outings in the early 2000's as 61 Players on classic labels like DiY and Fat City, but it's his latest output on Paperecordings and the excellent Tusk Wax as Causa with his sublime productions packed full of lush synth soundscapes and analogue textures that meant we had to ask him to compile a rare and exclusive mix for us.
Enjoy an hour and a half of leftfield, synth heavy deep house music as we hand the reigns over to Causa...

Exclusive alert. We are delighted to have secured a rare mix from one of our favourite producers of last year. Scott Fraser makes up the revered group of producers that is Andrew Weatherall, Sean Johnston, Timothy Fairplay and Daniel Avery that share the same underground bunker studio in East London, affectionately calling themselves 'The Axis'. Scott's 'Life Of Silence' 12" on Weatherall's Bird Scarer imprint in our opinion was the best thing committed to vinyl in 2012, and his releases on World Unknown and Astro Lab are straight up killer. Here Scott has put together a two hour live mix which he promises contains lots of exclusives from the bunker personnel.

Our first podcast kicks off with an exquisite live set from Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston at our launch party in November
