Our children so often are experientially rich and relationally poor. As parents, we our job is to help make them more like Jesus, always having the end game in mind.

A life of generosity comes from gratitude. If we desire a life of greatness, it’s found not in what we have, but in what we give. As long as we’re looking at others, it deflects from us looking at ourselves.

You can’t have the presence of God without being present with God. The person who doesn’t pray can only experience the best that they can do; but the person who prays, that person can experience the best that God can do. Don’t give up!

Do you think you know what the word praise means? Most of us have a pretty firm grasp of the English definition, but the authors of the book of Psalms had a much broader view of what praise is and how it can be defined. Join us in today's installment of "This Is That" as Pastor Chris takes us to school for a little lesson in Hebrew.

The New Testament compares the Christian life to running a race to the finish line and as a runner, you have to remove as many obstacles and hindrances as possible to help ensure that you can make it to the end. Christian Brown, our guest teacher, shows us what it takes to be successfully run the race. Are you ready to drop the burdens and run faster than you ever have before?

So many concepts of The Kingdom seem antithetical to our busy, modern culture. Humility is valued over ambition. Logic and reason fall far short of the currency of childlike wonder. And as Pastor Chris shows us today, living the life of a servant is the gateway to greatness. What are some ways you can humble yourself and serve others this week?

Have you given much thought as to what you might consider your default operating system? For some, sarcasm and negativity are the native language. For others, service is the dominant force that drives them. Is your life in a place that is beneficial to the Kingdom, or like we see in today's text, lukewarm and ineffective. In our last installment of the series "Seven", Pastor Chris dives deep into Jesus' visit to the churches of Philadelphia and Laodicea and gives us a glimpse of what the all-in, servanthood life looks like to both God and man.

The church is God’s instrument to expand the Kingdom of God and though big ministries within our own body are great, the Kingdom of God is not about building ministries. The Kingdom of God is about the reign of the King and the greatest threat to that is Christians who have lost sight of the mission.

Let us not change the Word of God, but let the Word of God change us! Fruit is a byproduct of a healthy root. Is the fruit in your life a reflection of that?

Throughout His life here on earth, Jesus made many statements that qualify Him as liar, lunatic, or Lord. Because He did in fact rise from the dead, we can believe that the things He claimed to be true, were so. It is up to us to decide if we’re going to live like we believe it! What will you decide to do about it this week?

The sufferings of this life are not without purpose, and through Jesus we are called to love through it. Our God has always completed all that He’s started and His nature hasn’t changed. How can you fix your eyes on the love of Christ this week?

We sing together and read the scriptures on Sunday mornings, but that doesn’t need to be the only time we do those things. John started worshipping before Jesus showed up, which helped to bolster his faith to keep pursuing God. Worship is an act of faith. Will you choose worship through the difficulties of life this week?

God can and will meet you right where you are. If you’re waiting for someone perfect to come along and speak into your life, you’re going to be waiting forever. Naaman almost missed the move of God because God moved in a way that was different than what he expected. Don’t miss Him because your focus is off.

As we make our way toward completion of the callings of God on our lives, we have to consider that we’re probably farther along than we think we are. Take heart! The Lord is clear in His calling to face our Jerichos, and He won’t call us to something He doesn’t intend on leading us all the way through.

When we harbor unforgiveness, we build a dam that suppresses God’s blessings in our lives. God is so wise in that He acknowledges the past, but also calls us to move forward. What good did remembering those hurtful actions and words ever do for you?

If we find ourselves in the midst of bad habits, we have the responsibility to make that habit hard to do. Recognize the triggers and step far away from the situations that cause them. Based on who you want to become, what one habit do you need to break?

We can’t expect change to happen overnight. We must choose day in and day out to follow after God, even if we aren’t seeing progress as fast as we would like to see it. If we believe that small, good decisions don’t make a difference, then we also won’t believe that small, bad decisions will make a difference.

Hezekiah responded to his difficult situation by seeking the Lord’s will, but what will our approach be? Will we give in to the devil’s lies or will we trust that God is who He says He is?

This holiday season, we have so many opportunities to step out in faith. Will you practice that faith this week, even though we may not see the full picture? God is not looking for outward qualifiers, He’s looking at the heart! He’s not interested in the obvious choice, He’s interested in YOU!

When you know where you’re going, it changes your perspective on where you are! If your desire is to grow in any area of your life, it is vitally important to closely listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that complaining is avoided, conflict is resolved, and freedom in change is embraced.

Our problems are not circumstantial, our problems are perceptual. We are called to look beyond what our physical eyes can see to how the Lord is moving in our lives. How will you choose to see beyond your circumstances this week?

Pastor J.D. Small, our guest teacher this week, challenged us to live as members of God’s family, rather than those on the outside. He has incredible promises for us, but will only bring them to life in the way that He has planned. Will you hold tight to the faith to believe that He is good and that He has good things for you?

Hello and welcome to the Podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville. If you've been following us for a while, you know that Pastor Chris can get fired-up from time to time. Today, with much enthusiasm, he kicks off a new mini-series called "Kings and Kingdoms" and as you might have guessed, we will be referencing scripture from 1 Kings in the Old Testament. Even though the stories of King Rehoboam and King Jeroboam happened thousands of years ago, there are still timely lessons to be gleaned on how we deal with issues of sin and obedience, and ultimately the consequences of our experiences with both. There's a lot in here, so make sure you have a journal and your Bible handy and follow along as we dive into "Kings and Kingdoms".

We don’t believe what God says because we understand, we understand because we believe. There are some things that can only be obtained by faith and if you shoot for nothing, you’re going to hit it every time. Let’s grow our hunger for the Word by consuming His presence and His Word. Eat, and you’ll be hungry!

Grace is the voice that calls us to change and the power we need to pull it off. There is nothing that you will ever need that grace does not provide and the grace that saved you is the grace that will keep you. It is up to us to see grace for what it truly is, power, not just pardon. Will you choose to walk in the grace that God has given us freely today?

Do you ever feel like you have a big target painted on your back and no matter where you go, you just feel attacked by everyone and every random circumstance? You can be confident in this: we are in the midst of spiritual war and if you are feeling the attacks from the enemy, it means that you are carrying something of great value that the enemy doesn't want others to get a hold of. It's easy and popular right now to identify as a victim, but Jesus has given us the victory and The Holy Spirit to not only defend ourselves from the attacks, but to also keep on carrying the good news of the Gospel of Christ to a world that is blind and deaf to the battle that's raging around them. Stay strong and confident! Make your stand!

God is most glorified when we are most satisfied in Him, but that glory does not come easily because we live in an imperfect world. We must make the choice to seek Jesus in every move we make because His example is what we live for.

You may have settled for mediocrity, but that is not what God's plan is for you. Choosing to live like Christ is the only way to gain the glory that comes after the sufferings of this world. What will you choose this week?

If you haven't already figured it out, this world needs peacemakers! There's anger and hostility coming from just about every side of the multiple arguments happening on a daily basis. Do the right thing, make the first step toward those you don't agree with you or have hurt you. There has never been a more appropriate time to humble yourself and share the love of Christ! Do you want to be right or in relationship this week? You are never persuasive when you are abrasive and it is always more satisfying to resolve conflict than dissolve a relationship.

As humans, we will face pressures every single day in this sinful world. It is up to us to decided how to handle it. Will we give in to the chaos and be taken by the world? Or will we recall, redirect, and reinforce the faithfulness of God in our lives?

God has given dominion, power, and authority to the church to be true agents of change here on the earth. Pastor Chris said that, “We settle for anything when God wants to give us everything.” So what will you choose this week? To walk in the true and real power of Christ or stay comfortable, settling for “anything”?

So often, we confuse judgment and conviction. God calls us to Himself as we are, but He loves us too much to leave us that way! If we want to continually grow in Christ, we have to be willing to stop making room for sin.

Weathering the storms of life will depend on our clinging to Jesus. In Him there is no changing or tossing about like the winds and the waves, only peace. It is vitally important that we look to Him everyday, not just when we struggle, so that we are anchored when the storms do come. What will you choose today? Instability in the things of this world or security in those of an eternal God?

"Why didn't you show up, God? I needed you!" It's a very common question; mostly asked by people who are in the midst of life's storms. As our guest teacher, Dr. Mitch Arbelaez demonstrates, the question is not exclusive to the post-modern era, believers-only club. Even Jesus' best friends were asking the same question. Dr. Mitch walks us through Jesus' response to 2 different types of storms and shares 4 lessons that will definitely help make a difference in how we respond to those sometimes powerful storms of life. If you or someone you know is going through some tough times, please share this message and above all, share the hope that you have in Christ.

Outcome is God's responsibility and obedience is ours. No matter what we face, our God is always steadfast, loving and leading us the same yesterday, today, and forever. We must choose faith in His Word always, even when we don't feel like it at all. What will you choose this week? Truth or comfort?

We must choose faith in His Word always, even when we don't feel like it at all. What will you choose this week? Truth or comfort?

What do you want? It's a very small question with very large implications. Today's message from Pastor Chris draws on Jesus' encounter with Bartimaeus, a blind beggar who knew exactly what he wanted, and he was not afraid to ask for it. How many times have we missed an encounter, or a blessing, or even the next steps to our destiny because we simply listened to the crowd and kept quiet, or worse yet, we were afraid? You can trust the One who has everything you need. Call on Him today!

Have you ever felt like you were just right on the edge of something really great happening in your life? Like the anticipation of promotion or a financial windfall or maybe even something bigger than that. You may be in the midst of something like that right now; like you perceive that God is calling you, your family, and maybe even your whole community, to something greater than you ever thought possible. Today, Pastor Chris teaches on a passage that will not only help you to confirm that call, but will also help you to encourage others to follow as well. God is wanting His people to get ready for the new thing that He is ready to do. Will you be part of the crowd or part of the crew?

Today, most students are being encouraged to attend and graduate from college in order to get the dream job and the life that is envy of others. Not surprisingly, student debt is at an all-time high, while barely half of registered students make it past the first couple of years of college. Our guest teacher, Elton Brooke, has a lot to say about how we plan and invest our time and our resources when it comes to choosing what we want to do in life, and he offers this bit of wisdom to consider: Rather than finding our occupations, it's time to find our callings. You were made in the image of God and when you live according to His purposes, you honor humanity. How will you choose to live this week? Standing still or moving forward with Christ?

A testimony has the power to change present and future events! To many we are witnesses, but to some we are KEY witnesses! Who do you need to share your testimony with this week for the sake of salvation? They may say no to Christ, but what if they say YES?

You never know who you might wind up talking with on any given day. Every day, we have the opportunity to speak God's truth and hope to both the believer and non-believer alike. Using the amazing story of Philip and the Ethopian official, Pastor Chris shows us what can happen when we simply obey and speak when the opportunity arises. There are divine appointments awaiting you today; are you ready?

It seems we're always going somewhere, right? To the mall, or to school or work, or maybe even to the big game. You've probably heard this more than once: "go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature". A good question might be are you going with the gospel to every other place you go, and if not, why? There are tons of excuses why we don't share our faith, and some of them even sound pretty good, but you can bet that even if you're scared to death to talk to people about Jesus, you can count on Him to be right there with you. Don't wait for someone to ask how you "got it all together", because they probably won't. Share the good news today!

We are continuing on this week with our series "Man in the Mirror", but are shifting gears a bit to look at a story from the life of Paul. Of course, shifting gears also means that one of our favorite guest teachers, Miles Phelps, took time out from his work with City for the Nations to bring a special word to us today. We believe that God is stirring the Church; that a fresh outpouring of His Spirit is awaiting those who will answer the Call of God, and today's message may just help you to hear that call a little clearer. You can't help but be blessed, challenged, and encouraged to shake off the things that are holding you back from the life God has for you.

Today's installment of our series "Man in the Mirror" takes a break from looking at ourselves through different characters in the Bible and shifts gears to look at life through the region of The Galilee. Jesus spent most of his time in ministry in this region. It was a place of beauty, relationships, and miracles, but it was also a place of unbelief, rejection, and challenging people. Do you see yourself in a few of these descriptions? How about all of them? Galilee is a mix of cultures, situations, and beliefs; much like life today. We are called to get into the fray; to intentionally build relationships with those whom we may not be like; To engage in those situations that may not be perfect or may make us a little uncomfortable: All done with overflowing grace through the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Are you holding out for that perfect moment to jump into life? This is your day to dive head-first into the Galilee!

There's probably no other person in the Bible who is more complicated than Moses. He was the son of a Hebrew slave but raised as a grandson in the house of Pharaoh. He was a murderer yet the closest friend of God on the earth. A strong leader, but full of doubts and excuses. While you're most likely not a murderer, there are surely some commonalities you share with who is arguably the greatest man in the Old Testament, and as we dive into our next installment of the series "Man in the Mirror", Pastor Chris digs out some very modern applications from a very old story. We sincerely hope you are not only enjoying this new series, but are growing deeper spiritually from it as well. Let us know how this series, or any of the hundreds of messages that available from our website, has ministered to you!
The story of Samson could be described as bittersweet at best. Although Samson was chosen to judge Israel, his life seemed far from that of an obedient man of God. As Pastor Chris points out, Samson's life was so full of small compromises that it made easy for him to choose the path that ultimately led to his destruction. Today's message may not be easy to hear, as many of us deal with some of the same issues as Samson, and like Samson, we may be headed toward some of the same destructive behaviors and beliefs. If you are one to take notes, please get out journal and join us in this next installment of our series "Man in the Mirror".
Hello from Jacksonville, Florida and welcome to the podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville! If you've followed us for any length of time, you are well aware of how passionate Pastors Chris and Jodi Tomlinson are in their pursuit of everything that God has ordained for Destiny Church, it's body of believers, and ultimately for the city of Jacksonville and beyond. Today's message and our new series, "Man in the Mirror", is no exception to the expression of that passion. Knowing what we need to be about doing and choosing to disobey or even run from what God has called us to often finds us in a situation where God has our full and complete attention. Follow along today as we look at the life of Jonah and the consequences of comfort.
Words have power. It's a truth that would be very difficult to deny given our current social climate. Words, even those that aren't true, are causing tectonic shifts of change in our entertainment, political, and educational systems, where fortunes, reputations, and livelihoods are being both created and destroyed in real-time as we experience the 24-hour news cycle. Today, Pastor Chris discusses 5 crucial truths about our words, how we filter them, and the potential power that is carried in them. This timely study will help you choose to speak life into every situation you encounter!
For most of us, when faced with an uncomfortable or inconvenient situation, we'll either try to avoid it altogether or try to figure out a way to minimize our time there. But as Pastor Chris shows us in today's teaching, there are often opportunities and blessings for us and for those around us if we choose to pass through circumstances that appear to be less than ideal. God's plans for us are always best for us, even when those plans takes us through some places we'd rather not go.
Sometimes we find ourselves in situations or circumstances where all we can see and feel is pain. Whether it's the loss of a loved one or perhaps a friendship or other close relationship that unexpectedly goes cold or even maybe the loss of a job or a dream, we often feel like no one could possibly understand what we're going through. But on this Easter Sunday, Pastor Chris shows us that Jesus is alive and well and He knows exactly what we are going through and exactly what we need to overcome. Jesus is all about the business of resurrecting and restoration, bring it all to Him and accept His love, forgiveness, and new life today!
How often have we used today's message title to pass up the opportunity to connect with others or to share a need or a hurt? One of the most common filters we use is the one that says "I'm good...I don't need a thing". The reality is that more often than not, we really could use the hand, or the prayer, or the encouragement. You may even be so out of hope that you think there's nothing that can even be done to help, but as you're going to hear today, that's not the way it has to turn out. God can change an outcome, resurrect a dead dream or even a dead relationship if you will just let Him! Can you drop your filters long enough to let God into your story?
One of our modern, "first-world" problems is how easily we can fool ourselves (and everyone else around us!). Through the miracle of technology, we can apply the filters that make us look more successful, happier, and living a life that's just picture perfect, all the while perceiving ourselves through the lenses of less-than-perfect, of little value, or even as a mistake. But God has shown us so many times through His word that, although we may come up short, He loves us no matter what! That Love is why God gave His son Jesus for us, and as guest teacher Dr. Mitch Arbelaez shows us, our status as sons and daughters of the Most High King is not up for debate. You are valuable and you are loved! Today, let His love forever change your life for the better!
In a world where social media has enabled us to present that perfect image of ourselves, it's difficult to know what's really going on in lives of those around us. Maybe you've been taken in by the temptation to only show the good stuff. The staged, filtered, and the rehearsed material that makes things look so much better than they really are. In this installment of our series "Filters", Pastor Chris gets real and asks us to do the same. We waste an incredible amount of time and energy seeking the approval of others, often times lying to ourselves in the process. If you're ready to experience freedom from the bondage of approval and perfection, this message is a great place to start. God loves you, the true and unfiltered you!
It's hard to imagine life without social media. Whether you're connected just to keep up with what your kids are doing or you're full-on posting every waking minute of every day, social media affects the way we see each other, and almost more importantly, how we see ourselves. As we dig into this new series "Filters", Pastor Chris takes some time to talk about control and how the need for affirmation or the appearance of perfection can cause some unrealistic expectations of ourselves and others. Are you wearing others out with your constant need to be affirmed? Do you struggle to let go and "Let God" fix the problems in others? This message could hold a real breakthrough for you! What control issues has God freed you from? Let us know by going to www.destinychurchjax.com and click on Testimonies.
How many times have you seen those advertisements; you know the "limited-time only", "this offer ends soon, don't delay!" ads that are designed to cause us to buy that car, refinance the house, or a myriad of other responses. While the Bible is full of promises and propositions that are open-ended and can be accessed and at any time, there are some invitations that are not. Today's guest teacher, Alex Ellis, shares a powerful word that carries such an invitation. Do you see the signs of God moving in your own life or others lives? Have you felt an urgent call of God to go deeper, to seek more of His presence in your daily life? Now is the time respond! God is wanting to do something in your life, right now...He's just waiting for your response.
We sincerely hope that our series "Upgrade" has helped you to do just that: To take those most critical areas of your life to the next level. And as always, Pastor Chris has the fitting conclusion for you today, and that's all about upgrading your prayer life. If there's one thing that we must get right, it's spending time with God. The great thing about that is that you don't need to be an expert theologian or have a Masters of Divinity to have a great prayer life. More often than not, it's just consistently taking the time to spend the time with Him. Prayer doesn't have to be complicated, but it needs to happen, and today's message will give you some encouraging strategies to do just that. So if you're a note taker, grab your Bible and a journal join us!
It's one thing to say "thank you" out of politeness or manners, but it could be an entirely different thing to be grateful. Gratitude is much more than manners, although it certainly can be expressed through polite humility. Gratitude is a heart-position that can help us to be thankful in the worst of circumstances, and how many times have we been in those dark places where it's difficult to be grateful for anything? In our latest installment of the "Upgrade" series, Pastor Chris takes us on a journey through what it means to live a life filled with gratitude and how living with an ungrateful spirit can short-circuit even the best of intentions and preparation.
Proverbs 9:10 says that "The fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of The Holy One is understanding", but what does it mean to fear The Lord, and is it something that you can get better at? Pastor Chris goes into great depth to explain why it's important to have the right definition and the right context when we talk about fearing The Lord because when we get that right, it's going to bring us closer not only to God, but to a greater revelation of the plans and purposes that He has for us.
On a scale from 1 to 10, how generous do you think you are? Hopefully at least a 5, right? But are you sure you really know what it means to be generous? The world has a few good ideas about it, but God's Word has a lot to say on the subject, and Pastor Chris lays out some life-giving lessons from both the Old and New Testaments. Living generously is not just about money, although the world often equates the two. It's also not about "checking the boxes" or just paying it forward because it's the trendy thing to do. Generosity is a lifestyle of gratitude and good deeds being done out of the abundance of God's Love and provision. Maybe it's time for a generosity check-up. It can change your life!
You are in for a real treat today! Continuing in our series "Upgrade", Pastor Chris goes old-school with some lessons in Hebrew on the different words used in the Old Testament for praise. If you think that this is going to be some dry, boring, foreign language study, you couldn't be further from the truth. Today's message has all the potential to upend some old and tired (and consequently lifeless) ideas about what praise is and how it is to be expressed. Come and learn what good things The Master says about praise!
When you consider the idea of service, what do you think about? A lot of folks think of it as part of an occupation; like at a restaurant or an automotive garage, and although I'm sure you could classify a portion of today's message in that context, it goes far beyond any occupational designs. Pastor Chris continues in the new series "Upgrade" and frames the idea of servanthood as one of the earmarks of greatness. Only in the Kingdom does it make any sense that if we want to be the greatest, we must truly humble ourselves in the service of others.
What kinds of things are you hoping for in 2018? New relationships? Perhaps a promotion? Maybe you're hoping for more direction toward your purpose. Maybe it's discovering that you have a purpose! Pastor Chris starts the new series "Upgrade" today and with it, a challenge to look at things a little differently. God is always doing something new and sometimes we need to trade our tired excuses that keep us tied to what God has done in the past and jump headlong into the work He is wanting you to be a part of today. So please, if you're thinking that 2018 is just another year, think again, and join us on this most excellent journey.
Change: It can represent a great many things to different people; but for almost everyone, change is inevitable and as we close the books on 2017, you can bet that 2018 will have many opportunities for change. Maybe you're in a place right now that you need to change, but you lack the knowledge or strength to move forward. Pastor Chris boldly lays out some practical, Biblical steps to tackle those challenges that hold us back from God's best in our lives. Make 2018 the best year of your life: Make the decision to be all-in for God!
Can you believe that Christmas is here already? It seems that the busier we are, life just slips right by us and before you know it, we've missed that miraculous birth in the most humble place possible. Not literally of course, but you get the idea. Today, Pastor Chris takes us on a journey back in time to investigate the life of king Herod and how his rule compared and contrasted to the Kingdom that Jesus would bring at His birth. We hope you have a most joyous Christmas this year filled with the true treasures of friendship, love, and most of all the gifts of redemption and salvation through Christ Jesus.
It's Christmas and you can bet that it would be almost impossible to count all of the sermons and plays and special services going on throughout the world all pointing the same glorious event: The birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As far as birthday's go, it's the most significant in human history. Today however, Pastor Chris takes some time to look at the life of Mary and more importantly, the call of God in Mary's life, or better yet the unusual and inconvenient nature of God's call. Maybe you're experiencing a call that you can't explain or understand. Today's message will definitely encourage you to be obedient, even when things don't make sense.
Hello and welcome to the Podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville! As many of you already know, Pastors Chris and Jodi Tomlinson left Christ's Church in Roswell, New Mexico over 5 years ago to start this ministry. Today you are in for a real treat because their former Pastors, Gerry and Rebecca Chavez, came to visit and brought a powerful word that will reignite your passion for the Presence of God in your life. You don't want miss this one!
Pastor Chris concludes the mini-series "On Your Mark" with a bang much like you'd hear at the start of a foot race. Of course, our commission has so much more at stake than a foot race. The trouble is, there's a lot of us who don't know just how much authority and power has been granted to us to reach the lost and to speak life and hope to the world around us. Whether it's the workplace, school, or even bigger, like a community or even a nation; God has a place for you to go! Our prayer and hope is that you are encouraged and inspired by these messages. What's God doing in your life today? Let us know by visiting our website www.destinychurchjacksonville.com and click on on the Testimony button to share your story.
When you hear the announcer's voice over the loudspeaker saying "Get Set!", you know it's just a matter of seconds before the crack of the starting pistol sends runners on their way. Today's message from Pastor Chris Tomlinson will encourage and prepare you to "Get Set" for the next thing that God is bringing your way. No matter where you are in your walk or what season of life you are living, God is ready for you to use your gifts to further His Kingdom! He has a plan that has always had you in mind, are you ready to set your mind and hope on discovering that plan and going for it?
What do you think most people think about when the subject of giving is brought up for discussion? A better question might be, does the subject of giving ever come up in your discussions? In the church, there's no question that giving and all things money have been abused to the point where it's rarely taught correctly. God is a giver and giving is a big deal and anyone who has ever decided to become a generous and consistent giver will testify to the blessing that follows. Yes, it's about money, but it's about so much more, too. Dr. Mitch Arbelaez will encourage and educate you in this lively message. If you're giver, you already know the secret. If you're not, don't wait, start today! It will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.
We are so blessed and excited to have Avi Mizrachi, the director of Dugit Ministries in Tel Aviv, Israel, as our special guest teacher. In today's message, he draws on his Jewish roots, family history, and Biblical prophecy to show that Israel (and the world!) is in the midst of millenia-old promises being fulfilled. There's no doubt that we are in a unique point in history and some would even say we are even seeing end-time prophecies coming true. So keep looking up! Jesus is coming back soon! You'll be encouraged, challenged, and amazed by Avi's message of hope and homecoming.
It sounds like the start of a race, right? "On your mark" signifies that it's time to get to your post and be prepared for what's next. Today's message from Pastor Chris speaks to the person in that starting place, but he also speaks to the notion of the marks of a follower of Christ; those character traits and attributes that set believer (and The Church) apart and offer a hopeful and eternal worldview. So join us as we begin this new mini-series and invite your friends and family to listen in as well! You're guaranteed to be challenged and encouraged.
If you've been a Christian for any length of time, there's no doubt that you've heard that people are watching you. Sure, you do have those watching, hoping that you may slip-up. But it goes well beyond that. You have been given an opportunity to actually influence the people and situations that you encounter every day, and our guest teacher Mark Harrell breaks down those areas of influence and the steps necessary to bring those people and places around you into the Kingdom of God.
If there's one thing that's been the primary focus of Pastors Chris and Jodi Tomlinson, it's the Gospel of Jesus Christ; The Good News! We, having accepted Christ as our Lord and Savior, have been set free from the power of sin, death and hell, and that's the best news anyone could ever share! But today, Chris wants you to focus your attention on some of the other things that get in the way of all that God has for us; things that in and of themselves are not necessarily sin, but weights and burdens that we collect and carry until we're ultimately shackled by them. If you are bound up by all of the good things in your life, this is your opportunity to take a load off and get some rest.
Living in Northeast Florida, it's a fairly common occurrence; the dreaded storm warning. Sometimes it's Nor'easter sweeping in with buckets of rain and a steady wind. Sometimes it's a hurricane that brings with it destruction and loss. Either way it's safe to say that we're never far from the next warning, and that's exactly where our own Pastor Jodi Tomlinson speaks from in today's challenging but encouraging message. Thank you so much for joining us today! If you have been encouraged by today's message or any of our past messages, please let us know. Follow us on Facebook facebook.com/destinychurchjax
Good morning and welcome to the Podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville. Pastor Chris and a team of our men have joined up again with Dirty Feet Missions to minister in Haiti, so this week we are honored to have our own Christian Brown teaching today and you don't want to miss it. The idea of freedom has been a recurring theme over the past few weeks and today's Word will give even more solid strategies to help you live in freedom and to help others to do the same.
When you think of renewable resources, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Energy? Perhaps you thought about your recycling bins and separating your trash. Have you ever considered your mind to be the most valuable renewable resource you have? In today's message, Pastor Chris shares some guidance on how to overcome some of those deeply-rooted behaviors and reactions by allowing God to change the way we think about things. Simply put, we can renew our minds. No one is immune from problems, but we certainly have the ultimate Resource to help us overcome any obstacle.
We are still in the recovery phase of hurricane Irma here in the Jacksonville area, and there couldn't be a more appropriate title to today's message. Many here have lost a lot and some have lost everything to the storm, but like Pastor Chris say's, "it's not over"! Today we'll learn that even in the worst of situations, faith, praise, and the right perspective can lead to the miraculous. Please continue to pray for all of those affected by this year's storms.
Last week, Pastor Chris really dug in to some of the consequences of unresolved conflict and started to show us how we can move toward Godly conflict resolution in 7 steps. Today, he concludes both the message and our series, "Relationship Status: It's Complicated". There has been some very solid and practical Biblical wisdom shared over the last few weeks as it pertains to building and maintaining healthy, Godly relationships. We hope that you have been blessed by what you've heard and we hope and pray that your relationships are better for it. Thanks for joining us!
Conflict. It's easily one of the most avoided aspects of our relationships, but not dealing with conflict will at the very least weaken our relationship and sometimes it will totally destroy them. Resolving conflict with people, especially those who are closest to us, can help our prayer life. It can open the doors of God's blessings and overall, just make us happier, Godlier people. So come along with us today as we dig into some practical, Biblical wisdom.
What is your name? It's a very simple question but it can be loaded with a lifetime of baggage. In today's message, Dr. Mitch Arbelaez surveys the life of Jacob and shows us that the complications and disfunctions in our relationships have an awful lot to do with us not being honest about ourselves. What is your name? Who are you, really? It's time to close the gap between who we believe are and who God has called us to be.
This Sunday we began a new series on relationships and Pastor Chris, being in true form, just tells it like it is. Just a warning, this message deals with some very serious adult content, namely sexual relations and pornography, and is not suitable for young children. Aside from some really great encouragement and biblical marriage counsel, Chris shares some staggering statistics regarding pornography and it's proliferation into our society. Not just here in The United States, but around the world as well. If you or anyone you know is struggling with this epidemic, this message is can be a great resource and encouragement.
It's commonly accepted that we would say thank you after someone said or did something nice for us or served us. If anything, it's just good manners! But how about this idea of giving thanks before something is ever done for us? Or better said, through faith, we give thanks and worship to God for what He is going to do; for the place you're in now, because He is worthy of it. Pastor Chris is teaching about worship today, and if you open your heart to this message, you just may come away with a different understanding of what worship is and what it does in the heart and life of the one surrendered to God.
Welcome to the Podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville! We are hopeful that these messages encourage, strengthen, and inspire you to a greater knowledge of God and a more complete vision of His plan for you. In a word, we might even be your partner as you grow in your walk with The Lord, and that leads right into this week's special message from Pastor Chris Tomlinson. Partnerships are vital to our growth in The Lord, and sometimes those partnerships don't always materialize like we think they should or look like we might have imagined. We encourage you to take some time and listen to what The Lord might have for you from this message. Like what you are hearing? Invite your friends and family to join us!
"I told you so!" How many times have you heard that from your family, friends, and colleagues? How many times have you had the opportunity to say it to those same folks? It seems we often get our mind set on what makes sense; what seems logical or perhaps what even looks like the sure thing, yet we get that one person who believes otherwise. Today's lesson is taken right out of that kind of story. God has given his advice and counsel, but it seems to make more sense to trust what can be seen. Stuff's going to get wrecked! We've all been there, and Pastor Chris shows us how to get back to trusting God, even when it doesn't make sense. Stay tuned for a timely message from an encore of the "Rain" series.
We are so glad you joined us for today's message! Pastor Chris wraps up our "Rain" series with a dynamic and insightful teaching on prayer. If you've listened to many of our messages, you know that we are a church that loves to pray. But have you ever asked why, if God has it all in His hands and under control, and He's already been to tomorrow and He knows what's coming, do we need to pray? This question and many others are answered in today's message. Have you been blessed and encouraged or challenged by this series? Don't keep it a secret...share us with your friends and family!
What does surrender mean to you? Do you view it as something that only the weak do? Or perhaps you see it as a way to avoid a fight. Whatever your take on surrender, Pastor Chris shows us that it's the only way we are going to fully realize God's blessing on our lives. The elusive rest and the rock-solid faith that we all need and desire is on the other side of complete surrender to God and His plans for our lives. We hope this message stirs you to a greater and more intimate relationship with God. Let us know about your trials and triumphs: Go to www.destinychurchjax.com and click on the testimonies page.
Seeing is believing, right? I mean, if we're going to get right down to it, there's nothing better or more convincing than seeing something with our own eyes. Or is there? In a world driven by visual media, the idea of believing something before we see it (or as some call Faith!) is almost foreign. In today's message from our series "Rain", Pastor Chris Tomlinson shares an amazing story about a deluge of drought-ending rain that started with a little cloud, no bigger than a man's hand. Join us for a powerful lesson in faith, process, and purpose.
Although it sometimes seems we only have 2 seasons here in Jacksonville, the reality is we share the same 4 seasons as everyone else. Sometimes it's hard to see the end of a season, while other times you may not even perceive the change. In this installment of our series "Rain", Pastor Chris discusses 4 spiritual seasons we all find ourselves in at one time or another. Whatever season you are in today, you can bet that God has already gone ahead of you to get you ready for it!
It would be nearly impossible not to notice just how much there is out there vying for our attention. Whether it be a 24-hour news cycle, the endless number of devices and apps at our literal fingertips, or simply the myriad yard signs, sign spinners, pole signs, vehicle wraps, and countless other mass media that constantly bombards our senses. In short, it's very easy to become distracted. And not just from driving, but from the most important things in life. Our guest teacher, Laree Ashley, delves into not only the causes and effects of distraction, but the very scriptures that we are to use to keep us on track and keep Christ in full view.
If you've ever lived in an area that experiences drought, you know just how precious each drop of rain can be. In our new series "Rain", Pastor Chris shows us that rain can bring with it blessing and favor, but it also brings responsibility and sometimes, even resistance. Are you ready for the rain? Have you been preparing for an outpouring of God's rain, or have you just been waiting? Thank you for joining us today! Have you been impacted by God through these messages? Let us know! Go to www.destinychurchjacksonville.com and click on Testimonies.
Spring is in full-swing here in Northeast Florida. Lawns are becoming green again, flowers are blooming and trees have shed their winter coats for new buds and leaves. Have you ever thought about how most of things got there? Seeds of all kinds were planted at one time (intentionally or not) in order for things like flowers and trees give their color and shade today. You're in for a real treat today as our guest teacher Christian Brown demonstrates the importance of sowing and tending the seeds that God gives us so that He is glorified and we are able to share in the increase. If you've ever struggled with understanding the parable of the talents (Matt 25:14-30), this message is for you!
What's the first thing you think about when you hear Proverbs 31? Probably something to do with a woman who is practically perfect, right? A homemaker, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a wife and a mother; who could come close to that standard? Pastor Chris continues in our series, "Wisdom: A series on how to live and lead", with a different perspective of the Proverbs 31 woman that just might change your view of what many perceive to be an unattainable standard. You're not off the hook men! This message is just as applicable to you too.
I'm sure you've experienced something like this; There's something coming up that you were preparing for and you thought you had everything you needed, only to realize that you forgot a ticket or money or some other important item, and you couldn't participate. Today's guest teacher, Dr. Mitch Arbelaez, opens up one of Jesus' parables in way you may have never heard before, and it may just shake up your idea of intimacy with God and the need to always be prepared for a delay.
Last week in our new series "Wisdom: A Series on how to Live and Lead", Pastor Chris taught us some valuable lessons on how to get wisdom. This week we focus on 5 characteristics in which we apply that wisdom. There's something in this message for everyone no matter your season or station in life; for those who think they've arrived to those who haven't figured out who they are! Trust me, you'll want to have something to take notes with. Let us know how these messages have encouraged you or someone you know. Go to www.destnychurchjacksonville.com and click on the Testimonies link.
Up until around 1900, the sum of human knowledge was estimated to double every 100 years. Flash forward to today, where our knowledge is doubling around every 18-24 months, and it would not be unreasonable to ask: Are we any wiser? Do you know the difference between wisdom and knowledge? Pastor Chris begins his new series "Wisdom: A series on how to live and lead" this week, and if you're wanting to know the answers to those questions and see what God says about how important it is to have wisdom, this series is right on time and just for you!
Pastors Chris and Jodi Tomlinson and the entire Destiny Church of Jacksonville family welcome you to our 2017 Easter service! We're so glad you've chosen to take the time to join with us as we celebrate Jesus; His life, death, and resurrection. Jesus stands alone as the single most important person in all of human history and if you don't Him, it is our greatest desire that you would come to know Him and the Peace that only He can offer. If you've been waiting for an opportunity to give your life to Jesus, today is the day of salvation!
It seems pretty straight forward, doesn't it; Go and make disciples. In theory, nothing could be simpler. In practice however, there seems to be a large disconnect. There are countless reasons why we can't or won't reach out to the lost with the message of the Gospel. Whether we assume someone else will take care of it or we feel unqualified to share our testimony, today's message from Pastor Chris might sting a little at first, but there is a wealth of encouragement and practical instruction waiting on the other side. The Gospel is THE message of hope that our world needs to hear (and see!). Thanks for letting us join you on your journey!
There is a popular saying that goes something like this: You are what you think. Now this is not a new philosophy, Solomon admonished us in Proverbs 4:23 to "guard our heart", or literally, guard how we think. In our last installment of the series "Identity", Pastor Chris gives directs us through scripture to help us think the right things about ourselves so that we can truly live out our identity and purpose in Christ. We certainly hope that you have been blessed by this series. Let us know! Better yet, tell your friends about us!
If someone asked you to honestly describe yourself, what kind of words would you use? Would they be mostly positive or negative, or a little of both? Do you believe your description of yourself? In our third installment of the series "Identity", Pastor Chris takes us through one of the greatest encounters in The Bible; Moses and the burning bush. Moses discovered his truest identity and purpose in this radical encounter with God, but you have to know that the same holds true for you. Allow The Lord to speak to you through this message, you will be empowered and encouraged!
Welcome to the podcast of Destiny Church of Jacksonville and the second installment our series "Identity"! Pastor Chris draws today's message from the story of Gideon, and if you know anything about Gideon, you understand what it means to have anyone other than God define you and determine your value. There is so much talk of identity going around in our society; whether it's being stolen, being hijacked for political gain, or being used in a way to keep us down and submissive to the will of others. Only God has the authority and the knowledge to define us! Trust Him with who you are!
There are few things, if any, that rival the value of your identity, and that is why it's so important to have a right understanding of who you are, and more importantly, who you were created to be in Christ. Pastor Chris brings some very practical and encouraging lessons on forming a correct identity as well as expose the traps that we often fall for when we doubt our true worth. This is a timely and relevant word for today. Our world is desperate for the influence of a people who know who they are in Christ.
Contrary to popular belief, you are not just like your uncle Joey. Or your aunt Susan. As a matter of fact, although you have many similarities to others, you are completely unique and you were created for a unique purpose. Today's encouraging message comes from our guest teacher Ron Hitchcock of Life In Motion Resources, and let me tell you, if you struggle with your identity in Christ or your purpose for being here at this time in history, this message could be a game changer for you. So make sure you have a Bible and journal handy and join us on today's journey!
If you take a close look at some of the recent events surrounding our electoral process, you've probably seen and heard people speaking their minds (shouting!), riots, and some very "tough talk" from all of our political organizations. Some may describe these actions as bold. But today, we're going to learn from Pastor Chris that real boldness is not arrogant or rude and is rarely easy or trouble-free. There is a boldness, that only comes from The Spirit, which will impart strength and set people free. We invite you listen in on this last message of our series "Drop The Mic". Have you been encouraged by this or any other series in the past few months? Do you need prayer? Please let us know by visiting our website www.destinychurchjacksonville.com and click on the testimony and prayer links.
Are you ready for the second Mic Drop? This one may sting a little because at one time or another, most of us will participate in this popular cultural pastime: Complaining. It's easy to get caught up in it, especially when those we respect or look up to are doing it. But what are the effects of complaining and what does it do to those around us? Are you ready to part of the solution? Are you ready to set the benchmark in your home, workplace, or school? Do you know someone who chronically complains but you don't quite know how to approach them? This is the perfect message to share with them!
I'm sure you've heard them before; bold statements or one-liners delivered in such a manner that there just isn't any room for a comeback. Jesus was absolutely a master of this type of powerful statement, and many of our core beliefs are hung on those statements. Today, Pastor Chris starts us on a new series "Drop The Mic" and we are going to take a few weeks to explore some of the most radical phrases ever uttered, so gather some friends and listen with us!
As the Body of Christ, we are empowered and inspired to do some pretty amazing things. Consider the sheer scope of missions going on around the world that have been sent out by the American Church to serve and disciple those who may have never heard of Jesus. But how about here at home? We are in a battle for the hearts, minds and souls of those around us, and in many ways, the world is doing a better job at loving and accepting than The Church. But Pastor Chris brings home 3 simple ideas that can revolutionize the way you minister to the people that you are around every day. It's time to turn the tables and out-love the world!
No doubt you have seen the myriad protests that have taken place over the past few months. It seems that there are no shortages of causes to throw your passion, reputation, and resources behind, especially during this politically charged season. But have you thought about what causes God might be concerned with and where He has enabled you to be His voice? This is our last message in the series "20/20", and it is powerful! If you've been encouraged and empowered during this last series, please pass it along and share these messages with a friend.
When you hear the word community, what comes to mind? A neighborhood? Perhaps a city? Just about any gathering of like-minded people could be called a community, and today Pastor's Chris and Jodi Tomlinson continue on the series 20/20, going deep into the idea of Christian community. This is nourishing and powerful teaching on what it can look like when we truly model our "Church" on the Biblical principles of community. You don't want to miss this! Do you need a Church community to belong to? We would love to have you! If you are in or around the Southside Jacksonville area, please make plans to attend one of our services. We'll see you there!
There are many ways you could describe Destiny Church of Jacksonville and the body of believers that make up this beautiful fellowship, but if you were to ask most anyone who's been here for a while, they would tell you that our mission really hangs on three core objectives; Christ, Community, and Cause. In this series 20/20, the Tomlinsons will tag-team teach and bring us to a greater understanding of our purpose and destiny as they relate to our relationship with Christ, our community, and the causes in which we are called to minister.
Happy New Year and welcome to Destiny Church of Jacksonville! It's 2017 and a new year filled with new opportunities and new challenges. To kick off the new year, we are blessed to have Dr. Mitch Arbalaez as our guest teacher bring this powerful message full of hope and encouragement. What will do with this new day? Or better still, what will you let God do through you today?
