For hundreds of years dissenters have challenged oppressive systems of authority. As guided by a strict moral and ethical code, our goals are to challenge social expectations, promote equality, tolerance and appreciation for diversity through research, education and critical thinking across several fields of study. We hope to provide new perspectives to individuals as well as a safe place to explore those perspectives.
In this episode I provide a small intro to linguistics and explain what loaded language is and how it might be influencing us.
Myself and my first guest, Shaylyn Svoboda discuss modern western interpretations of witchcraft, the misogyny of medieval texts and how marginalized communities have used witchcraft to become empowered.
The first episode of this podcast is also the first of a "Dissenter Bio" Series where I examine the lives and accomplishments of important historical figures. This short episode goes over the life of Marsha P. Johnson and her contributions to the LGBTQ+ community while calling attention to the persisting struggles of trans women of color.
